Ferry farmers market, 1/23/21, shelter in place
    Mike C.

Got nuts? And jams and butters... Well, here's where to find them, especially their huge variety of almonds! In walking the Saturday Ferry Farmers' Market in late January, I saw this new stand in the very back portion of the market. Their stand was pretty large, three tables, and lined with the above mentioned items. It took me a while to study before I decided to buy a couple of items, one for a friend and the other for myself. I bought a half pound of the garlic onion almonds. I started munching on them as I hunkered down and started binge watching Bling Empire.... I know, no comment. Let's just say, between the roll-your-eyes drama, I munched away until almost half of my bag was gone. The garlic and onion flavors stood out without being overly salty where I was reaching for a glass of water to rinse my mouth. I have not spoken to my friend about her wasabi flavored almonds yet. A week later, I bought another pound of the garlic onion as well as a half pound of barbecue pistachios (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0q2kUEnT8wJCdOhfu88N2Q&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). These were addictive as I couldn't stop eating them... you know, like when you're watching a really good movie or sporting event. This does have a spicy tingly aftertaste so, if you are spice sensitive, you might consider another flavor. The trick, like eating shrimp, is sucking the shells to enjoy the flavors. Will be back to try other flavors. I do recommend being careful if you are watching your salt intake for the flavored nuts with shells or have a beverage to balance the flavors.

This good old fashion fruit stand has been around since 1968. That's over 50 years! Plus it is going on the 5th generation being family ran. How awesome is that?!? Totally awesome! The stand has grown to carry local produce, fruit, honey, nuts, eggs, canned olives, olive oil, preserves, almond butter, dried snack packs, and small succulents and plants. I'm sure I missed something. Anyway, all these goodies come from local farmers. Many of the items are organic! Loving the fresh organic and locally grown emphasis. The stand is right on Highway 128 in the town of Winters. All the prices are reasonable, some may say CHEAP! Just this past week, I went nuts over their walnuts in the shell. They were $2/lb. Ya! Plus they had ruby grapefruits for 50 cents and Red for $1, fresh and flavorful. They carry a huge variety of sealed packages of varying flavored nuts, dried fruit, candy, and mixes in different sizes. My faves are the 4oz sealed pack of Japanese style coated nuts for $1.50 and the 4oz pack of unshelled walnuts for $2.50. They were perfect snack size. If you enjoy a good olive... check out the huge variety of Penna brand 11 oz bottle of olives... Jalapeño, cheese stuffed, garlic, deli mix, black ripe, olivasecca (salted cured)... $5. Right now they also carry seasonal navels and mandarins, and a variety of winter squashes. The staff that work here is the greatest. They are friendly and knowledgeable. The place is not a fancy blinged out building nor is it a dumpy shed. Stop on by, check it out. #pennaolives #wintersfruittreestand

This is a really great little local place to get all of your fresh fruit, assorted veggies, fresh eggs and local honey . We stopped in in a Sunday afternoon, they had a nice selection and no wait for checkout. Very friendly service too

I remember buying fruits from there when the CUESA farmers market was at the back of the Hyatt Regency Hotel as it was named back then. You get the drift. Various family members and friends man their booth on Tuesdays and Saturdays at the Ferry Farmers Market in San Francisco with the owners present Saturdays. My preference used to be shopping on Tuesdays to avoid the crowds and hustle bustle tourists. Due to the dwindling selection Tuesdays and a lesser crowd due to the pandemic, Saturdays are not as bad as normal, not to say I like it this way. On the first Saturday in March, I noticed that a few customers buying some flowers and, with Chinese New Year just wrapping up and the Cherry blossom season about to start, I bought a bunch for my family. They turned out to be peach blossoms (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=wdzZ2zYvI1lC-nB5zGEyOQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q); my mom and her caregiver immediately recognized them and I, being the naiive one, felt like I just learned how to change a lightbulb. They are a nice addition to our living room with some of the Chinese New Year's plants withering away and my Costco tulip plant already blooming and long gone. With it being March, a tweener time fruits wise, they no longer have a stand on Tuesdays and likely will not be back until April when stone fruits begin to be harvested. Apricots, peaches, nectarines are the probably next to hit the market. And with the warmer weather, the increasing number of vaccinated people, and a general feeling of somewhat normalcy, things are beginning to look a little brighter now. Before you know it, it'll be cherry season. Can't wait!

Had a family friend visiting Sacramento for the first time from Texas, and I wanted to give her something "California" and "farm-to-table" and nothing terribly perishable or hard to transport in carry-on luggage (like olive oil or honey). I immediately thought of them for their fruits and nuts! Ikeda's Davis was my second pick, but not much on their online store. It was super easy and convenient to place an online order on the Cal Yee Farms web shop, and I went with the "Deluxe Gift Basket" (Item# 3001) which had: [Dried] Apricots, Pears, Nectarines, Peaches, Prunes, Tangy Peaches-Pear Rolls, Cranberries, and Roasted and Salted Pistachios ($55+S&H). Order placed on a Wednesday, email order confirmation received. I called the next day to ask about information regarding order-specific shipping speed/times/tracking, and the lady had shipped it out Thursday for Friday arrival in Elk Grove. Awesome! It did arrive on Friday in great condition. Apologies for not having a photo of the actual basket it came in. I've not yet been to the farm in person, so I can't comment on the ambiance of the store, but I do mean to check it out in the future. You can also order by phone. Note that they're only open M-F, 8A-5P.
