Just had a filling here last week - because of Dr. Dani, I've pretty much lost all my scaredy cat ways about fillings. I don't feel ANYTHING, no more nervousness! She's done other fillings for me, and they are still hanging tough, many years later. All her equipment is TOP NOTCH, she's got all the newest stuff and techniques. And now I'm doing Invisalign! Yes, it's expensive, but you know what - I want to keep my teeth for LIFE, so they get the best care. And bonus - there were two adorable dogs in the office when I popped in yesterday.

I've been looking for a new dentist for a long time after so many bad experiences elsewhere. I have…read morea lot of dental anxiety due to a legit psychotic dentist when I was a kid/teen who lied to me on multiple occasions and claimed I had 23 cavities (no other dentist in the 20 years since then has been able to find those 23 cavities that I allegedly have, btw. I have only had 1 cavity in my entire life up until this year). That dentist also gave me a filling I didn't actually need, because she was like "oh turns out this isn't a cavity, it was just a stain. Oops!" after she started drilling. I also have brutal TMD that can sometimes lead to multi-day migraines after a routine visit, so I've been putting it off for an embarrassingly long time. I have been emailing different dentists for several years trying to find one who would let me do things on my terms (i.e., let me come in for a cleaning to ease myself back into it, but not get xrays during that visit, because that's what has caused my extreme migraines in the past). Everyone said no, except for Savin. I was impressed by the positive reviews on Yelp and Google, so, I bit the bullet and figured I'd finally come in for a very overdue cleaning and exam. Fortunately, I had a great experience here. I saw Dr. Evy, who is super nice. She did my cleaning and checked in frequently to make sure I was doing okay. I ended up having 2 cavities, which honestly I expected much worse given how long it's been. She filled them earlier this week, and it wasn't as traumatizing as I expected it to be :) She even managed to fill one on my upper wisdom tooth, which is super hard to reach, so that's impressive. I had to come back a few days later for one to be filed down a bit because I was too numb to be able to tell if it was too high, and she fit me in quickly and took care of it. And, so no migraines after any visit, which is a relief. The front desk staff are super nice as well -- very friendly, seem to genuinely be happy to be there (even at 7:30 in the morning), and extremely helpful. The hygienists/assistants who helped out with both my cleaning and filling visits were great as well. I'm super relieved to have found a dentist office that doesn't make me overly dread coming in. They're also setting me up with a TMD nightguard, so I'm hoping that'll help with that, too.

The dental office is wonderful, but Dr Gaynor was incredibly rude to my mother who has been…read moredesperate to have a tooth removed. He told her if she refused to get a root canal then they were canceling her appointment even though she told him she came for an appointment with the oral surgeon, not an endodontist. There was no apology for the mix up from him and he was very short and rude towards her. It costs you nothing to be kind, but it seemed as though he would rather be dismissive than helpful. My mother is elderly and all she wanted was some help. Apparently that was too much to ask from Dr Gaynor. I will say the rest of the dental staff was very kind and tried to help my mother make an appointment with a dentist instead, but by that point she said she didn't want to patronize a business with a doctor who treats elderly patients that way. She felt as though she were being blackmailed as he was basically saying, "either do the more expensive treatment that I know you DON'T want with me or you get nothing at all." She didn't want a root canal or implant. She just wants the tooth removed because it's broken below the gum line and needs an oral surgeon to remove it. I'm very disappointed at this man's bedside manner. Thankfully the rest of the staff was so nice because my mother was already crying by the time she was done. What a horribly rude man!

One of the first things that Dr Gary has told me before was that you should never go to a dentist that personally does the teeth cleanings themself. The hygienist should be the one taking care of that because it's specialized. This office has a great staff who are always kind and welcoming, they know my family by name and always ask about how we're doing. They take the time to get to know you, not just take care of your teeth. I like the personalized experience. They recently updated their imaging equipment to digital decreasing the radiation exposure by half of the standard machines (I guess they listen because when I first started with them years ago - I told them I really didn't want to get zapped by radiation so often - so if they could make do with the existing x-rays from my dental record transfer). The digital scan revealed some wear and decay on a tooth that my previous dentist filled - but never showed up on lower resolution scans before. We cleared that up on the next visit a week later - quick and fast and without pain. My experience has always been good with this practice - they are professionals, personable and welcoming. I look fwd to my visits each time!

My conversation with the wonderful woman who answered my call this morning was the dealbreaker. And of course, that dentist recommends his colleague right around the corner to do the $4000 procedure. Business as usual. Well, we decided to get a second opinion, and Karen was recommended by a friend. Karen did a thorough evaluation, and informed us that my daughter's wisdom teeth were growing normally, not jagged or bursting, and that the procedure/extraction was not so drastically necessary right away. Ultimately, the procedure MAY need to be done for preventative purposes, but it wasn't an emergency, or even a foreseeable problem. It's reassuring and uplifting to know there are dentists like Karen; honest, comprehensive, and caring. Moreover, she takes the time to explain in-depth, what the future conditions might entail. Not like the other guys (and I presume, many dentists); trying to make a quick buck off unknowing clients via "drastic procedures". Karen is awesome.

I've been to lots of places that try to scare patients into unnecessary procedures in order to rake in the fees. Dr Duda is the antithesis of that style. He is very experienced and has a great chair-side manner. He was actually recommended to my wife by our pediatrician. My wife is crazy paranoid about her teeth - and has lots of horror stories by incompetent dental practices with terrible chair-side manner. This guy is really unassuming - but he is on a list of the top Drs in the Chicago area (sorry I don't have the specifics to cite it). So think about that -- he is well regarded by his peers and other medical professionals. This is not a guy that is just starting out -- he knows what he is doing. Bonus - he has classy music playing in the office... If you make it to the Plaza del Lago area in Wilmette - give it a shot.
