Where to start with this DMV location? Absolutely HORRIBLE UNPROFESSIONAL SERVICE. I called the DMV twice to confirm that I didn't need another driver with me for my road test as I hold a valid drivers license in Canada. I recently immigrated here and need my California license. I was worried so I called not once, but twice to confirm, as I had to take off work for this appt. I was told both times that I could come without another driver. When I arrive and go to check in for my test, RAVEN, tells me that I cannot do my test without another driver. I tell her that can't be right as I had called twice to confirm. I asked her to please ask her supervisor as I had to take off work for this appt and it was hard to get the time off. She was clearly annoyed by my request, but got up to go speak with her "supervisor". They both proceeded to laugh at me while making me wait - only to come back and say I was out of luck. I begged them to let me go get my friend who was only 7 mins away so she could come back with me so I could do the test. She said no. My spot would be taken. There was no grace period. My friend offered to drive there to save time (keep in mind this was happening a few mins before my scheduled appt.) - she said "well they have 3 mins to get here" with a vicious smirk on her face. She wouldn't even allow me the grace of allowing me 4 mins past my appt time so that I could get this done. RAVEN said she could reschedule me - I reluctantly accepted defeat as she clearly had zero compassion. RAVEN reschedules me and gives the printout of my appt with my information - ONLY IT'S NOT MY INFORMATION. IT WAS SOME OTHER WOMAN'S NAME AND PERSONAL INFORMATION!!! I would be livid if someone else received my personal information like that. SO unprofessional. She shouldn't be working for the DMV if she can't be trusted with people's personal information. Absolutely horrible experience. ON A POSITIVE NOTE - the security guard was extremely kind and helpful when I first arrived. :) read more

WORST place!! These people don't know anything about customer service, they forgot that WE DONT WORK FOR THEM, they work for us. Requesting a driver license or ID is not asking for a personal favor. Please stop being so unpleasant, it's more than enough dealing with the long waiting time, so please make it a bit less stressful and stand and stick to your DMV core values : Honesty and integrity. Commitment to serve the public. Respect and consideration for each other, our customers, and the environment. Accuracy and quality in all our products and services. read more

Came in without an appointment scheduled to get my read ID for the first time. I had completed the online registration form beforehand, which helped to expedite the process. The lines were fast; I was probably 10th in line, out of three lines. More importantly, the employees were incredibly friendly and efficient! They engaged in small talk, and were upbeat even at 7-8 in the morning. I came in at 7:30 am (30 minutes after opening), and was out in less than an hour. Definitely the best DMV I've been to! read more

This has to be the worst DMV in California or at least LA County! These people are absolutely miserable and they treat you like they are having the worst day. The clerk assisting me recently was rude and condescending. She was giving me a vision test and kept changing the line on me, once I began. I was asked to read a line then changed it in the middle, not once, not twice but three times. I couldn't believe it! Nora needs more training or kept behind the scenes. Didn't want to answer any questions I asked. I will never go back to this location in the future. read more

REAL I.D. HASSLES, REAL IGNORANT EMPLOYEES! The easiest damned thing in the world is to complain about the DMV. It is almost a cliche of a cliche. But the reason it is so is because the California Department of Motor Vehicles is a mess...and the people who work there DON'T CARE! Moreover, some of them do not know there jobs. This specific field office seems to be ground zero for that. I had an appointment this morning at 9:20 to get my Real ID. At 9:18 I got on the line dedicated to people with appointments who need to check in. I was a little later than I'd have liked to be, owing to having to park three blocks away. Four people were in front of me, yet I did not get attended to until 9:40. As bad as that is, how about the fact that the person who did attend to me - a fellow wearing a medical mask though I did not get his name - does not know the specifics of getting a REAL I.D.! The first thing he asked me for was my passport. I did not bring my passport. So he pipes up in a smart-alecky tone, "Sir, the first thing on the list of required documents is a passport," and he proceeds to show me the list. Well, sure enough, a passport does show as the first item on the list, but the list is a sort of a la carte menu of identity documents from which applicants are to SELECT ONE. Here is the precise wording from the DMV website: "Identity (one document) Ex: certified U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, permanent resident card, or unexpired foreign passport with valid U.S. visa and approved I-94 form." In other words, a passport COULD BE used for this part of the authentication process, but so too could a birth certificate, permanent resident card, or even an unexpired foreign passport with valid visa, etc. This sort of thing is really infuriating, especially when I think of all the people this idiot has turned away who went, perhaps, to the trouble of getting a passport just so they could get a Real I.D. And all he had to do was read the language on that section of the list he showed me to know what was required. This complaint will, of course, come to nothing, since the most unaccountable bureaucracy in the state is the DMV. But at least you might be forewarned: 1. You DO NOT need to have a passport, or have one with you, to get a Real I.D. It is simply one of five specific documents from which ONE will suffice for this section of the process. 2. If you get the guy with the mask, bring a print-out of the required documents from the DMV homepage, just in case he still doesn't understand his job. read more

This is a government funded place??? This is like the 9th circle of hell. It's absolutely hilarious that this has been going on for years and years and years and it's just pure unfairness overall that's responsible. Explanation ? Okay . Well eye tests that are dated and feel botched , I don't have perfect vision but I know I'm not even close to needing glasses for driving like they suggested That's my early complaint . That shit has sailed ; whatever . Tonight , a few minutes ago , literally at 5:00 I was refused RE-ENTRY into the dmv because at 4:55 I exited to get some papers for my mother for registering a car and when I came back every door was closed and I get it but then to make things worse I go around back to an exit and people are exiting , this hilarious dude who didn't even work there as staff or security told me I couldn't come in (dude you're a punk, I hope you have to pay 10 years of registration lol) anyways a security guard came up and I explained I was just in and literally just went out for important paperwork for my mother to submit to the dmv ... that's why we're here right ??? He told me sorry , no way , blah blah blah whatever minimum wage script he's paid to go over , I said the policy is stupid and walked away and had to send pictures of the info to my mom who is still inside . Fair ? Absolutely not . Fix your policy , our taxes go to this ? We have to pay a ton of money for registering a car for this ????? Absolutely not happy with a usual experience I'm not happy with anyways . read more

good service, wonderful staff and clean bathrooms! I was there and it took me less than half an hour for my name to be called wow!

Overall this is a good DMV. Most employees are fast and efficient, and friendly for the most part. I was able to get through applying for a Real ID and I took a new photo, with zero complications. I was then sent to window #30 for a temporary license. The Employee, at window #30, named DOLORES (she refused to give me her last name ), was not only unfair, but rude and condescending as well. It was my turn in line and when I arrived at the window Dolores started helping other customers, that were in line behind me. These were mainly customers with much more complicated issues. I stood there quiet for a bit, and when I noticed that she had zero concern for my time, I finally said, " can you please attend to me, because I was in line before all these other people?" At that point she started calling me " honey" and "sweetheart" in a condescending way, and she acted as if I was the one out of line. I said, " I waited in line like everyone else, and now that it's my turn you are asking people behind me what they need and you are trying to solve their dilemmas, it's not ok." She blew my off, while saying " I know honey, I'm helping you too, I didn't send you away. " I then said, " why would you send me away? Im in the right line and it's my turn. I just ask that you stop multitasking and take care of me." At that point she grabbed my paper work and then stated, "please sign" as she threw them back at me, in an aggressive manner. I signed the papers and asked if I was done. She then said " yes you are!" while rolling her eyes and huffing and puffing. My task at window #30 took approximately 2 minutes, after all Dolores' nonsense. Basically I'm just here to say that nobody deserves that type of treatment from any business. Dolores has no customer service skills whatsoever and she is a very rude person. I hope the Winnetka DMV keeps up the good work, but please provide customer service training for this employee, who does not value the customer's time and talks down to her customers, as if they are children. read more

Good DMV with efficient, cool people in a well-organized environment. Not so busy on the Friday morning I was there last.

Go to this DMV! They're very nice and helpful and not super long line. I went 25 mins before they opened & there was a line outside the door but i only waited 10 mins inside. It took about 2 hours to get my out-of-country car registered, and to get my California drivers license. The process is typically longer for out-of-country vehicles so I was expecting it to take much longer. I was also missing an international document and they let me go print it and come back and skip the line and go back to the window I was at. Very nice people! Also save yourself time and go online to see if you can fill out your forms before coming. DL form can be done online. read more

I came here for my driving test. I came in feeling confident. Didn't pass because of the horrible woman who have me my exam. I will admit, I made 1 or 2 maybe 3mistakes. This woman marked me for 16. She marked me for speeding but I was driving 40 mph in a 40 mph road. It gets worse. She marked me for not stopping at stop signs. I didn't have to stop at red lights. She said I wouldn't stop being the limit line. Here's what I did, I slowed down, stopped BEHIND THE LINE, waited 3 seconds, looked both ways, and then went on. Some people really shouldn't be working here. If she sees this, I could care less what she thinks. She even raised her voice at me because I got confused by the way she told me to lower my window a bit. She shouldn't be working here. Idc if you're DMV certified, that doesn't make you a good person. Overall, I wouldn't come here for the test read more

First of all my son passed his driving test with only three errors but his instructor Jackie was incredibly rude. I've heard many things about her from my son's friends and how rude she is to other new drivers. She scolded my son not once, but twice after making a "mistake" that honestly I myself (driver for 40+ years) would have made aswell. Hopefully she didn't scare any one else with her obnoxiously long intimidating trench coat she is notorious for wearing.(according to son). She was just very rude. P.S. I just came to take my driving test for the first time here and compared to other DMVs I've been to, this one has been the better of the bunch. It was a Monday morning and it wasn't as busy as I would have expected. Eventually it did get busier but since I had an appointment, I was ready to take my behind-the-wheel test right away. The lady who rung me up was very pleasant and my examiner was kind and understanding. He didn't speak much but I prefer that than someone who freaked out easily. The course was very simple, probably took only 10 minutes. I have yet to wait for my ID card but I'd recommend this place for anyone looking to take their behind-the-wheel test. read more

I mean it's the DMV. What more can you expect than to show up wait in line and wait hours for your number to be called. Well here in Winnetka I have to say I had a good experience despite the stereotypical challenges that is going to the DMV. I love that there was someone going through the line letting us know that if we were here for ID's or a drivers license renewal (I was) that we did not have to wait in line and were given a shortcut to another window. I was quickly taken care of and there were computers available to those who didn't register ahead of time. The staff were all friendly and even when I mentioned I couldn't get an appointment, they quickly gave me another for the next time I needed to come in. Also there is now a system that allows you to get a text before your number is called so you don't have to sit there all day. I got my text a little over ten minutes before the number was called. Not overly packed and a decent amount of parking. Happy to come back here. read more

It's a DMV; how can it be awesome? There are some positives, it's true, but overwhelmingly things are negative. Positives: If you make an appointment (and WHY don't people make them??), the process doesn't take all that long. Um, I'm out. Negatives: -There is no parking; thank God I got there early. I literally drove around the small lot for 15 minutes before I found a spot. -The workers aren't all that friendly or helpful. The lady checked me in and handed me a paper and didn't direct me at all. Who hangs out at the DMV and just knows the process? Maybe all those other people, but not me. Also, the dude who took my photo made some weird comment about how it's "hard when you do that horizontal thing...well, it's fine." What does that mean? What horizontal thing? Is my picture all jacked up now? -31 bucks to renew my license?! That feels excessive. So glad I only need to go there every 5 years or so. It's one of Dante's rings of hell, I'm sure. read more

I'm in line at the moment. I've been here for more than 35 mins, why is the security acting like he owns this place? LOL. You can't bring drinks or food inside? This isn't Nordstrom! Did I mention the girl in the receptionist area with braids.. was super rude! I mean RUDE!!! No sense of humor, very strong tone of voice. PS: To the security that took me I couldn't take pictures of a government office. If you have permission to enter, you have permission to shoot. Know your constitutional rights on pictures!!! Pros: The automated ATM for vehicle registration is simple to use, but if have someone in front of you who doesn't know how to use it... Good luck! Cons: parking sucks, rude employees, dress in PJ's and slippers.. That's not professional, have all paperwork ready or you won't get a number!!! read more

Went in for a 3:40pm appointment time for a driving written test. Yes I had an appointment time. Yes I completed the online application but somehow was told to complete the application again. Was in line after line and at 4:50 the receptionist says to us that we will need to leave and come back another day because they are closing. What's the point of offering appointments after 3pm when you can't complete the task by 5pm? A different issue, can you have Saturday hours in order to serve your community? Most 99% of the community here are working families. I now need to take two half days off from work to go thru the DMV for something that really should have taken at most one hour with an appointment. With all the tax dollars I give this state, they can at least serve our community by opening more DMV's to accommodate the never ceasing apartments and housing being built in the San Fernando Valley. If I could I would give NO stars. read more

Tip #1 - Make an online appointment. Seriously, it takes less than 5 minutes from home and means that when you show up you have 10 minutes or less instead of 2 hours to wait. If you're reading the reviews, stop and make an appointment NOW! Tip #2 - Write carefully on the forms. I had a cross out and had to fix something on my form which apparently wasn't OK. (And had to get a new one from motorcycle school and wait a week). If it's wrong, I'd chance not crossing it out instead. Everything else here is standard DMV. Slow/bored workers, a long line full of people, etc. I waited probably 20 minutes to get my written test scored, since there were many taking the test and only one (really 0.75 since he left for a bit) workers scoring. Eh. Lot's of parking... although seeing as it's the DMV I'd expect calm drivers in there, but nope. read more

The DMV constantly gets negative reviews and I'm definitely not the one who is going to step outside of the normal. The DMV in general sucks but this one in particular is probably the hottest garbage of them all. The service is down right terrible. From the initial line when you walk in, to the second line where I personally needed to get my bill, to waiting two hours for my number to be called just so I could pay my registration fees. To make a long story short, I had to step in hell on earth (DMV) because for some reason my registration forms for both of my cars did not arrive. The DMV tells me "your address is not updated so the forms were sent to your previous address". I changed my vehicle address and home address (yes they are different, smh) when I moved from Simi Valley to Camarillo a few years ago. 2016, and 2017 forms were sent to my current address but 2018 reverts back to my previous address and then the DMV wants to punish me with a late fee. Oh, you better believe I got that late fee removed or else I would have gone gangsta up in there. All in all, if you can do your business with AAA, do it. It's worth the cost. It's not worth losing your sanity over an emotionally stressful environment that quite frankly just doesn't care about you. read more

It's a DMV... disappointing though, for those of us responsible enough to try n help them operate more efficiently by scheduling an appt, know that they won't allow u to check in until 10 min before ur slot; weird since most ppl that sched appts tend to want to arrive early to ensure they can find parking n get in on time w.out getting there late for their appt. Even when i came back to check in at 10 min prior, the lady had to call her frakin supervisor to confirm it was ok?!!! R U SERIOUS!? it's great that they think 'appt schedulers' are so on-point that we can perfectly time driving there and parking in there busy lot and arriving at the front of the line at exactly our appointment time but let's get real and face the reality that 10-15 min prior IS on time! I will say though that they are quite speedy once you're checked in. read more

This has got to be the least organized and largest group of bitter employees ever encountered at any DMV. They behave with such entitlement. They have the poorest manners. Oh my, where do I possibly begin? Of all the DMV locations I have been to, this one is by far the worst. Such horrible customer service, it's actually really saddening to see how poorly humans will treat other humans because of a tiny bit of power in their hands. I had a minor issue, I called the DMV multiple times and they said they can't help me over the phone and need me to physically go there, so I did. However after waiting in line for 3 hours, because of course the next available day for an appointment is in December, anyway after waiting for 3 hours I tried to kindly explain my situation my situation to the manager, and she doesn't even wait until I'm done with my story and just says "no" I said, but you haven't listened to what I'm saying, she continued to just say "no I can't do that" Okay so my tax dollars are paying people who don't even have the courtesy to listen to a situation I waited 3 hours in line to tell? And no matter what your problem is, their response is always "no". The employees here are basically robots with no empathy, who read off a page that has generic responses to questions they might get asked, and the answer is always just "no". In my career I actually have to care about people, im a nurse, it's my job to take care of others and listen to everything say and need. You guys are working in CUSTOMER SERVICE, if you're going to be rude to people than get a different job! I'm so angry about my experience, she made me feel worthless, as if she's some powerful ruler and I'm a peasant seeking her approval. It made me angry about how unfair this system is and how poorly a government organization is run. I am going to take this to the next level because my civil rights have been violated. read more
