The TJ Maxx line of stores have always fascinated me…read more The three brands - WInners, Homesense and Marshall's - have made their trade in being a glorified clearance store for many low and mid-range brands, and this location in Clarkson is no exception. I'd argue that it's the perfect fit for the Clarkson community, as it accurately sums the sleepy, docile nature of the community. I ended up coming here to kill a few hours and get in on some late Boxing Day shopping after the New Year, and was extremely surprised to find that half the store was on clearance. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that a good 40-50% of the goods on sale were either marked with tags or set up on "Clearance" endcaps, which was extremely amusing considering there was SO MUCH of it still on display. $2 packs of PUR gum, dirt-cheap Christmas and designer decorations, all sorts of weird food items for pennies on the dollar... makes the mind boggle with how much product is back there that they struggle to sell it all even with 80-90% discounts. One thing I'll definitely give the store credit for is that it's generally very quiet, the service is prompt, and you're generally bound to find something you want, whether it's a weird knick-knack or a book that interests you. In the end, we ended up buying a bunch of themed Christmas foods (including peppermint bark coffee liqueur and chocolate candy-cane shaped shortbread cookies), along with some odds and ends. I find I like visiting here every time in the area. Despite it's similar layout and product offerings as Winners (take out the men's/women's fashion and you have Homesense), the service and selection put it a cut above. Definitely a worthwhile anchor store in Clarkson Village Plaza.

Had some time to kill before a showing, so I stopped off at this tucked away Homesense in Clarkson…read moreVillage, re: home of the old White, sometimes rich, people! Size-wise, this Homesense was not as impressive as the ones that I've been to at Bathurst/Centre (Thornhill) or even Vaughan Mills. It's on the smaller size, HOWEVER, the benefit is that it's waaay quieter than those other locations. Actually, it's probably even quieter than any Winners that I've been to! The location definitely has a part to play in that "been transported back in time" feeling. There's no sense of urgency or rush, just relaxation. I had a question about what was included in a package of bedding - it wasn't stated on the label - and the sales associate, who was doing something else at the time, actually went to another associate to find out for me. Who does that nowadays? If I were in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stop here 'cause I don't like shopping in crowded places.

Was looking for a particular chair at Ethan Allen.... Browsed the store for at least 20 min then…read moreattended the front desk to ask for service and info on the chair.... A sales person appeared and provided me with her card and a flyer.... I decided the next week to go ahead and purchase the chair... my experience was frustrating as I attended the store on 3 separate occasions to order the chair and no one on site would assist me in ordering .... Why?... Because they operate on commission and the person I originally spoke with was the only person I could order thru... I understand their model of personalized, commission based sales but I found the overall experience to be very poor service as there's absolutely no team approach to any purchases you make here... And you've gotta have a healthy wallet as a fake plant can cost you upwards of $700 bucks. I was told I should have called ahead of time.... Advice.... make an appointment to go shopping at Ethan Allen Furniture.

Our sales rep was Joanne Colten, she seemed nice until they delivered.......when they delivered they didn`t ask me to move my 2 BMW`s from the driveway...they decided to drive on MY FRONT LAWN !!! They REFUSED to take off their filthy muddy shoes or put on shoe covers. They dragged the bedroom set across my 24" by 24" botticino marble foyer that was imported from Italy...scratching the surface. We had just completed all of our reno`s the week prior and had the floors polished days before they got there. I even postphoned the delivery to have my floors polished first. They then proceeded to drag the bedroom set up the stairs damaging the walls! We signed the packing slip "damaged walls" and their driver promised that someone would call us that day. I immediately called Joanne Coulton and she put me in touch with her manager, Catherine Secord. As we cleaned up all the mud on the floor we realised that the marble floor was scratched and damaged! They came to our house to verify the damage and all they did was talk to us about buying more furniture, we told them that if they don`t fix the damage to our home now we will call the contractor back in and pay to fix everything and give them the bill, and either they can pay for the damage or we will persue the matter in court and file a BBB claim. They waited for over 2 weeks to contact us for a second look....and we had just had the work completed to repair the damage they made to our home. After all of this Leslie Hamblin from Head Office offered us $250.00, and wanted us to sign a disclaimer!!!! We will keep everyone posted on how the BBB and legal action (.....let the judge decide if this how customers should be treated after spending $9,000!)
