I was at the Winn-Dixie self-checkout using a lane that was clearly marked "Cash." There are only two cash self-checkout lanes, so I specifically chose one of them. When it was time to pay, I discovered the machine was credit card only. The self-checkout attendant canceled my transaction and told me to move to the other cash lane. That meant I had to unbag all of my groceries and rescan every single item. It was a frustrating and unnecessary inconvenience. I suggested that the misleading "Cash" sign be removed from the machine, but she replied that people sometimes pay with credit cards. That completely misses the point. If a register is marked as a cash lane, customers should be able to pay with cash. Clear and accurate signage is important and could have prevented this entire situation. read more

This location was crowded, chaotic and somewhat messy. The prices were slightly higher on average and choices were limited but I was able to find some egg nog and other seasonal items, but the options were pretty much non existent. On the plus side, they have a bulletin board which was helpful and even though they were busy they had plenty of employees so check out did not take nearly as long as expected. This store works in pinch but if you are only in need of a few items or looking for a bargain, go elsewhere. read more

This place. So I go to pay and I lost my card. My man comes in and we take care of the bull then we go to start looking for the card. I trace my steps to other stores and end up back here. I go up to the guy who was overseeing the self check out to see if it was there. Nope. So I go to customer service and wait for ten minutes while watching Alberto sit on the handicapped scooter playing on his phone. I finally go over to ask him for help "no speak English" and goes back to his phone. So I go back to customer service and pull the phone out and start calling anyone who will answer to get some help. The dm nor the manager answers so I randomly dial numbers and I get the guy who is at self check out. Turns out he is the manager and said he already told me he didn't see it. I said ok, thanks and walk out. Turns out my son had to go potty. I take him out of his car seat to go into the same door I have now gone in and out multiple times. Alberto is there laughing. I said it's 20 minutes early! My son needs to use the bathroom. He laughs "no speak English". So I try to open the door. He said "it's locked." Thought you didn't speak English. I go around and Alberto and the manager Livan are laughing as I come up. I asked him why he locked the door twenty minutes early, my son has to use the bathroom and the sign says 6 not 5:40 you close the door. He laughs and says "then go use the bathroom". Really?! There ain't many options for shopping on the island, so this Winn-Dixie is good considering the logistics of getting things here. The produce section was pretty nice and one of the newer looking ones. Honestly, I wish the Winn Dixie stores in Orlando were more like this one here. For being so remote, they had a nicer and larger "natural" section with healthier options for snacking. We stopped in just to pick up a few things for the room (Powerade, Breakfast Bars, etc.) and thought they had a nice selection. If you're looking to stock up your home or hotel room with stuff for the island, this is a good choice (although there may not be too many others). read more

Food in Key West is relatively expensive but Winn Dixie has a decent small deli and a good assortment of vegetables. Sandwiches with mortadella and veggies is our go to meal of choice when we stay in the area. The loaf of good bread might cost $5 but you can eat for a few days and enjoy life! Checkout is often very crowded and the automated checkout is very flaky. It kept telling me to put my purchase in the bag when I already had done so. If I had a choice between getting kicked in the junk or going to this Winn Dixie, I'd choose the former every time. But this is Key West, and it's 2:39 in the morning, and there's nobody around to offer the alternative...so off to Winn Dixie I go. Everything looks a-okay from the outside...ignore the 15-20 wind-sailing shopping carts, just cruise missile-ing around the parking lot. At this hour you're one of just a handful of cars at the joint, so your chances of getting doinked by a rogue cart are fairly low. As I approach, I see the sign says Open 24/7, the lights are on, and there is an employee standing in the self checkout lounge (see what I did there?)...he's awake, but catatonic. I've been here at this hour more than once before...this is the gold standard for late-night shopping on this island paradise. It's actually it's own standard, since it's the only option. I walk toward the automatic doors and, throwing a caution into the wind, wait until I'm a mere 12 inches from the still-unmoving glass before I end my sad game of chicken. No dice...actually, no milk or eggs, you see the dice were just a...nevermind, the point is I had zero luck patronizing this establishment. Failing at this quest, I returned to my truck, passing roughly a dozen would-be customers, in various stages of dress. Whether it was the fuzzy slide-wearing man with a head band and a flowy polyester robe or the gaggle of mid shift workers in restaurant polos or security uniforms...they all made the same comment: "Again?!" Again, indeed. So piss on Key West Winn Dixie and their flagrant lack of loyalty to the nighttime customers...they could have slapped a new sign up, a la Sharpie, a piece of scrap paper, and a half-inch of tape. I am not a very picky person... mainly... but..there are just things... I do go in numerous times.. groceries are needed. I find the customer service to be not the best. Rudeness and seems to get upset when asked to help at self checkouts. There is no care to actually want to help. Besides that, be prepared for the bathroom. It is unbelievably gross. I know it's not a pleasant job, but this is important. I have found myself wanting to pee myself then use the bathroom. As well, I understand that everyone needs a job, but a lot of workers do not know even a little English. This can make things frustrating. There is not even a "un momento, por favor," while help is being seeked. Only a rudeness. I give it a 2 because, on chance, I have had 2 different people help me who were not rude. I realized that might not be a really fun job for anybody to do but why should we who are going in their shopping have to put up with the nastiness of their nasty bathrooms? If I could give the Pharmacy a zero rating I would. I waited for prescriptions and watches the pharmacist hang up on customers, be rude to customers and yell at people. When I asked when the Rx would be ready she said "I don't know you'll have to wander around and wait" my mother is dying in the hospital and this is this is the way a pharmacy responds. There are tons of elderly people in Key West that need prescriptions. A little bit of kindness would be nice. If you hate your job so something else. Megan Was on duty at the time. The store by itself is nice enough. The prices are reasonable, especially for Key West. BUT, our cashier (Debbie) was the LAZIEST and RUDEST we have ever experienced! She refused to bag anything! She preferred to move things around two or three times as they stacked up, waiting for us to do our own bagging. I was trying to watch the register and start the bagging while my boyfriend was still unloading the cart. When my boyfriend was able to take over the bagging, our purchases were pretty stacked up. Debbie actually stopped cashiering and stood in place until there was space on the table! I was astounded. The next two times that she stopped cashiering, she sort of moved things around on the table, with no attempt to bag. I have now read previous reviews and am wondering if it's store policy to hire people with NO customer service skills. We were unable to find some items on our list, so we went to CVS and Publix. So yeah, It's a Winn Dixie, and for us on the mainland it's no big deal ... it's just a Winn Dixie, but when you are on vacation in Key West , it is a place to stock up for your picnic, to pick up water, beer and other goodies for the room to snack on. This place is well lit, and stocked, you can even find some snorkeling gear in case you forgot your own. I found the prices to be comparable to those back home, although, I assumed they would be higher because we are so far down south in the Keys. Just know that its there .... and stop by to pick up some grub, your stay will be more enjoyable, and you get to save on some sustenance items. read more

October 14th at 9:50 p.m. I come into this store I'm at the only check stand that's open and the Checker is just chatting it up with her best friend ignoring the customer she's working on she's scanning one item every 5 minutes seriously it's crazy I've never seen a human or an animal move so slow it doesn't matter she was like a sloth ignoring her customer before her talking to her friends I waited so long and I was trying to be patient finally just leaving my stuff she didn't even care. She doesn't care about the customer she's working with she didn't care about me she only cared about her friends who she was speaking to. Everybody in the store is on their phone ignoring customers even if you ask somebody a question about the store they just stare at you because I have no idea what you're saying every time I ask a question nobody knows English. I even tried to call the store manager and nobody answered the phone so obviously the store doesn't care Publix is so organized so clean the employees are well-dressed well spoken and they try their darnness to help you with everything they go out of their way the store is super clean so go to Publix Publix Publix that is a store where they actually care about their customers I will never return to Winn-Dixie and if I get a response from them wow maybe I'll change my review if they decide to get rid of the employee who refuses to work but otherwise it's a ghetto go to Publix and be happy read more

Went to the assistant manager with a litany of complaints about things that he wasn't even aware of: no paper bags available in over 4 months(just plastic), almost never has stock of sale items, just empty shelves, homeless man ALWAYS sitting inside the entrance, catcalling any woman that comes by and trying to get them to talk to him, employees never know where things are and don't offer to help and a pharmacy that calls to tell you that your prescription is in when it is not. In fact, the pharmacist told me the med. was discontinued which is a lie. Then she said their distributor no longer carried it. That is a lie too. I'm down in Key West visiting my boyfriend who's working out here. I have had to make several visits to this Winn-Dixie location for all the dinners that I have been whipping up. (*Note: I am not a great cook, but definitely deserve an "A" for Effort!) This location is clean, well organized and the staff is friendly - as is the Key West way. =) I do suggest bringing in your own cart from the parking lot, as I have had entered the store to find no carts available. This is not your prettiest store; there are some others that are much prettier. But, they have some amazing prices. I purchased a whole sirloin that I cut up into steaks. This was prime beef and it was $5.99 with card. That is an amazing price. Also great prices on chicken bulk and pork. They have great cuban bread, flans, and many cuban type items. Much more so from the fancier stores with the fancier delis. But you will not go wrong here. They speak a lot of spanish here and some barely speak english but you will be rewarded for your efforts. read more

It's in a nice big plaza with lots of other stores so parking isn't a problem. It's a big store and clean. I kind of like Publix deli and hot deli better but this is really nice nothing against them just my preference. There prices are about the same as the competitors . read more

It is basicly a winn-dixie which is fine by me I grew up in florida and have shopped at many different winn-dixie stores.Not my very favorite chain but quite acceptable.The store in key west however is a nightmare. self check outs only accept cards and they close them by 10pm which leave you at the mercy of the normal register which i have seen 20 plus people waiting in the one line that is open and others employees not making any effort to lend a hand what so ever. I must say that the market has gotten much cleaner than it used to be, however they still need improvement. Also, who's bright idea was it to get rid of Apple Pay. You would think it cost money to install Apple Pay and then turn around and uninstall it. I started shopping more at Winn-Dixie because of Apple Pay but now I think I'm going to switch back to Publix where shopping is a pleasure. I visited this store while staying in a nearby hotel . I was a little skeptical because going into a store in the keys it's like spending all your money in there. Well I was surprised I got really good deals !! The only thing that I didn't like was that the supervisor was screaming at the cashier because when he walked through the door she had a long lone and she didn't call for backup . When you're a supervisor you need to be careful about what you say and in front of who you say it . Not many supermarkets in the downtown part of Key West and this is one of the few that I found, though it's a bit of a drive from the aforementioned downtown area. Prices can be pretty expensive, but then again, this is Key West, so one should expect prices to be higher than other locations. They do have self-checkout lanes available. Health Hazard.... I stood in line at the Deli to have some sandwich meat cut. While we were waiting out turn in line (we were 3rd), the lady who was being waiting on was treated horribly by the ladies behind the counter. The Manager came and took care of the issue (or so he thought) and as the manager was walking away. The Youngest New Employee who did not speak English "ATTEMPTED" to help me but kept cutting my ham thinner and thinner. But this was not the real issue as I understand there is a learning curve. She walked away for 10 minutes and then started picking up things up off the floor and then was handed a piece of wood (pallet slat 3' long) and then after 10 minutes of waiting and ignoring us she decided to come and touch the Ham with her "CONTAMINATED HANDS" and as I tried to stop her she wanted to cut the meat again... When she touched the meat, I went and told the Manager and left the store. HOW can someone who is required by law to have a Food Handlers Permit contaminate the food like this? read more

Rude staff. Our cashier never spoke to us at all. Not once. She just threw our groceries around and we ended up bagging them ourself. She acted pissed off during the entire transaction. I used to shop at the Albertson's grocery store in Key West, until they closed a few months ago. So now sometimes I go to this Winn Dixie. I don't like to, because their prices are higher than Albertson's were, but there are not a lot of alternatives now. But what happened to me a few days ago will keep me out of this store permanently. I was in the store very late at night, planning to make chicken with chopped potatoes and carrots. Since their meat is so high-priced, I glanced at everything and passed them all up, until I came to some chicken thighs/legs packged that were "buy 1 get 1 free". That would average out to a decent price, so I picked up the various thigh trays, looking for 2 that were the same price. The thighs were next to some whole chickens, but those were full price so I ignored them, knowing that I would not buy those. An employee walked up to me and said something in spanish. I had no idea what he was saying, so I just shrugged and said "no" and went back to looking at thigh/leg packages. The employee REMOVED HIS HEADPHONES SO HE COULD HEAR ME and said the same spanish phrase again, and I said "I dont speak spanish". Then finally he spoke english (wow, in america!) and asked me if I needed help. I said "no" and went back to looking at thighs, and he left. I found 2 packages that were the exact same price, but wanting them to stay in the cold refridgerated area, I left them there and went to get a potato and bag of carrots. 5 to 10 minutes later I made my way back to the meat area to pick up my 2 same-price thigh trays, as I was met by a DIFFERENT employee, who was holding a whole chicken. He said "can I help you" and I said no. Then he said "(1st employee's name) said you were pulling prices on the chickens" and I was dumbfounded. "What?" I said. "He said he saw you pulling prices on the chickens" as he petted and stroked the price sticker on his whole packaged chicken as if it had been injured. I replied "I didn't touch the whole chickens and you need to look at the security cameras before accusing someone of something that they didn't do". This went on for at least 10 minutes, as he was sure that the spanish guy saw me doing whatever "pulling prices" is, as I told him I didnt even know what that means, and I had ONLY been lifting trays up to see the cost of the trays underneath, then placing them back as they were, not touching any stickers. So I got fed up with him treating me like a criminal and grabbed my 2 matching trays of chicken and went to pay. I asked the cashier if there was a manager and she pointed to the lottery/cigarette area. I went there and told my story to the lady manager who was sitting on the floor behind the counter, and after I had finished talking, she seemed to disregard what I had said and went back to whatever she was doing on the floor. Then Non-spanish employee came up to the desk and started saying that I had been pulling stickers (which I hadnt). The manager did not seem to care at all, even as I asked her to look at the security camera footage to prove that I had not done whatever these 2 guys were saying I did. After a few more minutes I was just so mad that I had to get out of there, but I needed the food and there's no other 24 hour meat/potato store open, so I went back to the cashier and paid for the food that I had left with her, then I walked out of the store. I sent an email about this to the winn dixie contact website, and no reply. VERY BAD BUSINESS. I hope they go bankrupt. read more

You know how people are more likely to write a review for either really good service, or for really bad service? Well, it's true, and I'm here for the latter. This was my first and last visit to a Winn-Dixie. The store itself is fine, and the prices aren't any better than Publix. The self-checkout was the usual nightmare. It got all confused when I tried to bag my 5 items, and wouldn't let me pay, without having someone come over to "help" me. Nobody was around to clear the screen so that I could proceed to pay and GTFO of there. I looked around, there was a guy with a Winn-Dixie shirt on, but he was too busy chatting with someone to be bothered to do his job. The line was getting longer behind me. So, I finally said "F it!", and took my stuff and moved to a regular check out line, even though those were busy. By the time I got up there to check out, I looked the cashier in the eye and said "hello". She did not look at me, acknowledge me, or reciprocate my greeting. So, I pressed on and said "how are you doing today?". Still, absolutely zero response. So, finally I said "I understand. You'd rather be somewhere else, and I don't blame you". A moment later, waiting for the credit card transaction to be finished, the machine said "please wait for cashier". So, I looked at my lovely cashier, Claudia, and she had her phone on the counter, and was looking down at it, scrolling through. She was paying absolutely zero attention to her job or her customers. So I said "it says please wait for cashier". Still, no response from her. I turned around to see the line growing behind me. So, I told her again that it was her move. Still, she continued to scroll through her phone and completely ignore her job. Finally, on the 3rd time of me saying it, she woke up, and my credit charge could finally go through so I could get out of there and on with my life. I don't want to get anybody in trouble or to cost anyone their job, but seriously. This place needs to work HARD on their customer service. Save yourself the headache and go to Publix.
