Winn Dixie in Cape Coral, FL

A few years since I shopped a Winn-Dixie, I can see that they are seriously trying to up their game. Once a very large chain of supermarkets across the southeast, they've condensed a bit and I think that they are trying to focus to compete better. It shows. Bright red accents everywhere, this store has bright lights (they always used to seem a little dim), wide aisles (they always used to seem narrow) and both small and large shopping carts (which never seemed to work before). I'm impressed. Good shelving, nice leveling, lots of produce and the meat department is quite good. It's not *quite* as good as the Publix or Harris Teeter we have in North Carolina, but it's a big jump forward. I'm glad to see the competition. [Review 10516 overall, 283 of 2019.]

I hadn't been in a Winn Dixie until this one. I was so very happy. The staff was very nice. The shelves were stocked. The prices were great. I mean, the dollar aisle alone makes this place worth going to. Yes, it's just a grocery store but it made me happy to go there. Happy enough to go three times, including before I left town to drive 2 hours to another town where all I would have is a known very over priced Publix.

The trash can was for corn shucking.

Who doesn't like buying liquor/food & getting cents off a gallon of gas?! It's the America dream! When we are down in Cape Coral, visiting my parents, we usually stop here at the Winn Dixie because it's not too far away from their condo & the prices are more reasonable than the Publix. Publix seems to only have good prices if there is some kind of crazy sale. This used to be a Sweetbay grocery store. I've been at this location a bunch of times but I don't ever remember it being anything other than Winn Dixie. They changed it over to Winn Dixie back in March of 2014. I do however think it's been recently renovated, at least the liquor store up front because it's different than it used to be. They've got a pretty good selection of different beers & liquors. I was surprised with the amount of bourbon & whiskey they had. Being born in Kentucky & living in Nashville, I take for granted with the section of dark liquor we have in those states. I'm glad they have a nice selection, also, if you notice by the price of the item, they'll have a blue cents number, that cents equates to how much you get off a gallon of gas. They've got a large aisle of wine as well. I picked up a bottle of Pinot Grigio for $6.99 & it was buy one get one free!! I scanned the bottle on my Vivino app & the wine was rated a 3.7 out of 5 stars from over 200 reviewers. It was pretty good for 3.50 a bottle. The seafood & meat department is good. We got some shrimp on sale that looked better than the shrimp we've bought over at the Merrick Seafood Market. Overall I'm a fan of the Winn Dixie. It's a great location & never that busy unless the snowbirds are down & it's the weekend.

Best cashier ever Vince, really took time out to help us out. I really haven't experienced that level of customer service in a while.

Had been…read moresearching for local 100% grass fed/finished beef to fill our freezer and Pineshine is 1 of only a few that offer this quality. Most others are grain finished, which we did not want due to the health profile changes it can create, even if only fed grains for a few weeks. Ordering was fairly simple. Communication was a bit spotty (specifically our timeframe & cost), but I suspect it's because they do it all themselves - no marketing department to make things slick, which was fine w/us. We paid quite a bit per pound (more than I'd expected), but the meat is delicious and excellent quality. We've ordered 1/2 cow from other farms in the past, but this is probably the best tasting meat we've had from any ranch so that's impressive! So far we've cooked up ground beef, steaks, roasts, organ meat and made the most amazing beef bone broth from one of the soup bones. All items have been excellent quality, freshness and flavor. We chose to pick-up our meat from their farm. It was easy to schedule pick-up, everyone who helped us was friendly. If you don't have enough coolers to transport they will loan you a few to get home and then you bring them back. Here are the opportunities for improvement...Although the meat is the best we've had, the packaging is the worst we've had. I realize Pineshine isn't doing their own butchering, but the butcher they used is reducing the value of their product. The meats are all wrapped in white butcher paper and taped. Steaks are varying thickness. You can't tell how many steaks or bones are in each package until you open it since the wrapping is white. It's a mess when thawing as the paper gets soaking wet and the juices seep out. Sometimes the paper rips so you then have exposed meat. I prefer to avoid using plastic, but it's SO much nicer to have clear vacuum sealed meat in the freezer. I know exactly how many packages of steak to pull out when I can see them in the bag. If I'm running late on meal prep, I can submerge a vacuum sealed frozen package and have it thawed for dinner. I have a lot more confidence in the freshness several months in with vacuum sealed beef vs paper wrapped. Probably good we didn't know it would be paper wrapped, as we would have ordered elsewhere and missed the opportunity to eat their amazing beef. I also wish custom packaging were offered, which is what we've had with other cows (more roasts vs steaks, thickness of steaks, pounds per package, etc). We only use 1lb of ground beef at a time but all our beef was in 2lb packages and that's such a bummer and waste for us. It's difficult to cut frozen beef so I end up just thawing the whole thing and essentially losing the opportunity to use it later for a 2nd meal. Here you get standard cuts unless you buy the entire cow. Overall, I would highly recommend the beef from Pineshine Farms. It's fantastic! Would I re-order? If I could get customized butchering and vacuum sealed packaging then definitely! However, we would probably not reorder if they're still using the same butcher & paper packaging.
