I bought the coolest pair of frames at Wink about 11 years ago. Every time I wear them, people come up to me and comment on how cute and unique they are. Recently one of the nose pad broke. I went to 5 eyewear stores in Minneapolis for a replacement but to no avail. I recently scratched the lenses on my favorite pair of glasses, and I was devastated. I had called around to a few other local places, but their prices were quite high, and I don't have insurance. I called Wink, and they were able to offer me a higher quality lens, all of the 'bells and whistles' (anti-scratch coating, anti-reflective coating, transitions lenses) for MUCH less than other places. They also have a 2-year warranty on lenses, which is AMAZING and much better than I've found at other establishments. On top of offering a great deal, my experience here was FANTASTIC. I had my lenses in just under a WEEK and I didn't even have to give up my glasses during that time - I brought them in when the lenses arrived, and they put them in place for me on the spot. They also cleaned my glasses very thoroughly, AND gave me a new case, microfiber cleaning cloth, and lens cleaning spray. Overall, the staff are incredibly kind and knowledgeable, the space is chic and welcoming...it really is an EXPERIENCE. 11/10, would recommend to EVERYONE. :) read more

Wink has some really interesting, unique frames that can't really be found elsewhere in the area. The staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are a bit high, but that's sort of the name of the game in eyewear. If you don't need the specs, maybe you could just dance past the store to their ever-pumping-up-the-volume soundtrack. read more

Wow talk about pretentious. I went there with my mom. She needs new progressive lenses and wanted new frames. My first job in college was at an eye doctors so I have some experience in that setting. Let me tell Ya, they are masters at marking up old glasses. They tell you it's one-of-a-kind but what they mean is DISCONTINUED and no longer backed by a warranty. I asked what kind of lenses they used and they wouldn't tell me that either. Some off brand lens that costs the consumer as much as a brand name lens. I'd rather get a good lens design from a reputable manufacturer than the Wink special any day. Upon reading the review of a previous poster, I took note of the model numbers mentally while my mom was trying on frames so as not to upset them. I DID want to compare them to online versions because I wanted to know that my mom would be getting a good deal. I would never buy glasses online and I expect to pay more for good service at a brick and mortar store, but smart consumers do research. Let me tell ya what I found: Their frames are often several years old......Wink says one of a kind.....they mean the only one left after 5 years. Their frames are also priced with the same mark up as if they were a current style, so even though it's a current brand the frame isn't current and therefore cannot be replaced if something happens to it. And after 5 years, it is going down in value everywhere else while Wink raises the price even more. So to sum it up: Sub-par lenses Discontinued frames no longer backed by manufacturer warranty And no staff member will be upfront about anything! I should be able to know when the frame was made or what lenses are used, but they act like it's a carefully guarded secret. So lame. Not going back and smart consumers will do well to not buy their crap. I'm certain that they don't take insurance because vision insurers want to make sure they are shelling out money for quality products. I'm guessing winks no warranty frames and misc. lenses don't meet basic insurance standards. read more

These guys are awesome. I have gotten two pairs of glasses from them over the past two years now, and I don't even live in Kansas! I get compliments -- all the time -- from people I know and casual interactions about my glasses, and several Phoenicians have expressed disappointment when I explained I got these glasses in Lawrence, Kansas. :) The inventory selection can appeal to a wide variety of style preferences, and the quality of the product is great. I appreciate that I can find some beautiful, statement-quality pieces because I want remarkably, noticeable glasses - I wear them every day and I want to enjoy what's sitting on my face - but I think the service is a hallmark feature of Wink. In my first visit, I happened in in chance while in Lawrence with my stepfather, and tried on a pair just for kicks and giggles while he was updating a previous order he placed. Next thing I know, I feel like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman in the shopping spree scene because I'm receiving tons of attention, we are laughing, trying on pair after pair after pair, but I wasn't ready to commit. These guys were really cool about it and were very gracious about the time I spent in there. Later that night, I decided I would place an order at the end of my trip. When my mom and stepfather went in a few days later to pick up his glasses, they remembered him and me, AND remembered the glasses I gravitated to and showed my mom, who offered her approval. :) I came back in a few days after that, they remembered me, the glasses I liked, and helped me place the order -- oh -- I didn't have an updated prescription. NO PROBLEM. They fitted me in the floor model frames, which were in perfect condition, and even marked where my corneas fit into the demo lenses to ensure they would be fitted correctly. Two weeks later, I had my new prescription from my optometrist, faxed it, Wink confirmed with me, and a week later my glasses were express mailed to me. This summer, I came prepared with an updated prescription... A year after my last visit. Even after a fu year, was greeted with familiarity, and took my sweet time trying on at least a dozen frames while receiving awesome advice, feedback, and incredibly personalized service. Again, because I wouldn't be able to come pick them up, they were incredibly accommodating to me with fitting me right there. A few days later I received a call to confirm the glasses were ready and they confirmed my shipping information. They express mailed my glasses, and two days later, my new glasses were in my mailbox. Both transactions were flawless and exceptional service experiences, and the quality of work was excellent. I needed no adjustments to the fit or lenses with either pair, which really says a lot about their attention to detail. Great job, you guys! read more

Just bought my first new pair of glasses in over five years, and I'm glad I went to Wink to do it. They went the extra mile in making certain that not only did my glasses fit, but they looked good, as well. While walking around Massachusetts St. last weekend my wife noticed that one of the nose pieces on her sunglasses was missing. I stopped by Wink to see if they had a repair kit it could purchase and Michael quickly repaired the issue by replacing both nose pieces. He did not charge me anything for the product or the work. Hands down the best selection of current and modern frames in town and possibly the region (... including Kansas City at least). Mike and his staff are top-notch. They hold frequent trunk shows and reps from manufacturers make regular appearances to meet with clientele to show off their latest products. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Wink before now, as I owe them B I G - I still get compliments almost weekly on my glasses after wearing them for the past three years!! If you're looking for cheap, generic frames, Wink is not the place for you. However, if you're into excellent design, individually handcrafted frames, and literally want a one-of-a-kind look, then head here. Wink has a unique business model. They purchase frames from independent, specialty glasses designers from around the globe (Germany, Japan, Italy, US, etc). While they could go for brand names that everyone recognizes (like Coach or Prada), they instead focus on those designers who specialize solely in making eyewear. The designers featured in their store are constantly innovating and coming up with new ideas for frames. They have a variety of lightweight metal or plastic options, depending on your preference (in both regular lenses and sunglasses). Each frame in the store is literally the only one they stock of that kind - meaning, if you pick out a color and style you like, you will be the ONLY person they sell that exact frame to. How crazy is that?! You're guaranteed to walk out of this place with a distinct look. The staff at Wink isn't into just getting a sale either. They're truly about making sure you look and feel the best in what you're wearing. For anyone who wears glasses everyday, you know they feel like part of you - you don't want to lack confidence or feel dull putting them on every morning. I've worked with several members of the staff when I've gone in, and they always help make excellent suggestions. Plus, they're honest when something just doesn't seem right (wrong shape, size, or color). I've been in several times to try different things on without buying. Every time we go to Lawrence we stop at Wink. Also, my wife bought her last pair of glasses at Wink and we both were returning so I could start the process for me. What I like about Wink is that they carry unique glasses and offer customer care. Before I knew about Wink I bought my Salt glasses three hours away in Des Moines. I thought the customer service was fantastic and they treated me with great professionalism. Unfortunately this trip turned into me feeling like I was being accused of only being there to try on glasses and shop elsewhere. My wife and I spent some time going around the store trying on glasses. My intent was to get a plan on what glasses I like, go get en eye exam, and come back to purchase. I found a pair of glasses I liked. I'm an avid list maker. I create a Onenote and go to town adding data to my lists. As I worked my way around the store I took pictures and created a Onenote sheet on my phone with the model and a picture of me in the glasses. Then I can go home and reference how I looked in each pair, then returning to the store for purchase. I finish up and was given the price for the glasses. I thought maybe I would get a printout or some details of my request. They call my request "a wish", that they keep in their computer. I waited for the info and the employee wrote the price of the frames plus the lenses on a card. What I wanted was the model of the frame and the rest of the details. Why? I like my lists. I made it to the car and realized I didn't get that info. The whole walk to the car we discussed how excited we were about these glasses. Soon to be returning satisfied customers. I quickly return. I ask the person I was talking to and he directed me towards another employee. That employee has a look of awkwardness when I ask for the model, insisting we have it on file. Okkkkk, right. You have it on file. So I too would like to have it on file. Then eventually (the owner?) came over and said I could not have that information. He said that designers do not want them giving out the model. Too many people come in, try on glasses, and buy elsewhere. I understand that brick and mortar stores have to compete with a global market. But the reason I was back was because I liked their product and actually do value customer service. The person helping me telling me that I can't have the model number. I told him I'm a list maker and showed him my incomplete list, missing the final pair. I asked to try the glasses on again, and he said I couldn't if the only reason was to get the model number!!!!! At that point, my experience of satisfaction with Wink left. The $700 pair of glasses I wanted to buy from this store, no longer interested me. I wasn't going to shop around. I'm a professional, returning customer, and yet was told I can't see the glasses that I tried on just five minutes before because obviously I was going to shop around. I was so shocked to get that response, I'm not sure I'll be back. Not once was there remorse at not being able to serve my request. Can they have this policy? Yes. This company can do whatever they want. Do most people even care about their model name? No. But I did. I've never shopped anywhere that hid information from me like that. Oh and he really didn't give me the model number after all. He gave me a partial model. I still do not really know what glasses I tried on. My list is still incomplete....and that drives me insane. Now instead of returning after my eye exam, I may have to now shop around. read more

I have been getting glasses since 4th grade (I'm now in my early 40's) and the customer service, knowledge, and helpfulness at Wink is by far the BEST!!!! I'm updating my review several months after the first one I wrote in July. The folks at Wink have been incredibly patient and generous with me as I struggled to find the perfect frames. After many years of wearing "invisible" (frameless) glasses, I wanted something that made more of a statement. I really wanted to change and update my look, and, with their help, I chose several attractive, great-quality frames. But I guess I was really having a hard time looking so different when I would see myself in the mirror. Anyway, after several false starts, I found frames I just LOVE and am happy to tell anyone who asks where I got them. But best of all is the quality of their optics.
