Shrimp Fried Rice w/ 10 Pc
    Rachel E.

Ehh... I expected more with the food based on the reviews but it wasnt allat. The shrimp fried rice was really good but the wings were mid. Idk why but after some time, the wings had a weird aftertaste to the point where i couldnt finish them. I got garlic pepper and mild lemon pepper. The garlic pepper didnt taste like anything & i barely got any lemon pepper on the other ones. It was a thick amount of grease at the bottom of the container under the wings (maybe where the aftertaste came from). They also don't split tenders with cards so unfortunately i couldnt use my work card. Either way cant really say I'm impressed. Ill have to try somewhere else.

Shrimp Fried rice is really good. The Honey garlic pepper wings are bomb too...I should've gotten more than 5 pieces.

This spot serves the best fried rice ever. Unlike some places they put egg in the rice. And the garlic pepper wings are delicious.

It defies all logic of concept. It's not a restaurant, but it is. It's not a grocery store, but is.... It's not a liquor store, but... It's such an interesting evolution of business man. You could never just start something like this. It's just been percolating for a good while and just evolving along the way. They now are in the whole building they lease as the concept has grown. I love to see a family business evolve and grow! It's call Derk's Filet and Vine. I was thinking steakhouse when I heard we were going here. It is a butcher shop (slash) wine and beer store (slash) grocery store (slash) caterer (slash) that happens to also sell a wildly popular Meat and Three Caferteria Style lunch that lines up people sometimes in the hundreds. Insanity. My reasons for being here are even more insane to be honest. Nonetheless, I am so glad to have had the opportunity to see this place while I am still alive. The folks working here are fantastic! Super helpful and friendly. I dig some AL hospitality! I had never been to Montgomery before. My lunch was too freaking notch!! Yum. Yum! I'll be back. It's in the stars. Written well before you or I were around or awake to realize. Can't wait to eat some fried chicken next time!! '26 - 33

Word to the wise - don't come after 1 and expect a full selection of food. At that point, you'll have to pick from whatever is left, but it will be affordable and tasty.

I had smoke turkey sandwich, it was just that-and yummy. Perfect moderate portion. Hubby had turkey dinner plate - beans amazing...hot turkey really good. We each had the turkey plate, so turkey slices and two sides each, and a "roll" which was so tiny it was almost funny, but it was hard. The dressing was fine--Not exceptional but also not awful. Our sides included green beans which made me remember my public school lunchroom. Skip those ! Be aware too that you can call and order for pickup but if you do, and your order isn't ready when you arrive, YOU must check at the SIDE counter and request that someone frequently check "call ins" --which are kept UNDER the counter (you can't get them yourself). And while the counter staff call out people's names for patrons who are sitting at tables to come and get their trays, the staff does NOT call out your name for pickups! We waited an extra 30 mins on our food -- trying not to be rude and ask. I'm glad I finally asked !! I've stopped at a few other places in this town coming through or home from the beach, and Bates is the cleanest. IF I try again, I will try the turkey sandwich.

One of my students ate lunch at this Jimmy John's with one of my colleagues. A few hours later, they realized that they did not have their wallet. After completing our prepaid tours, they checked their room around 6:30pm and could not find it. I called Jimmy John's but did not get an answer, so we walked to the location. The store appeared closed (even though it was before 7pm), but we could see a man behind the counter. I knocked and waved. He ignored. I knocked again and he walked to the back. I called the store and got no answer. He came back out, and I waved. I knocked on the door, and he looked at me, shook his head, put his AirPods in and returned to cleaning. I called the store again. We remained standing outside. We knocked again. Finally, after waiting outside for about 10 min, the worker came to the door. Through the glass, he showed us on his cell phone that he had called 911. My student and I stepped back from the door but remained in front of the restaurant. A SWAT officer happened to walk up. He was not responding to the situation but was willing to help. He knocked on the door, and the worker did not answer. When he shined his flashlight in the door window, the worker came to the door. The worker was clearly angry. He lied and said that he told me that there was no wallet found in the store and we could not come in but I refused to leave. (This showed me that he could hear my student and I talking and chose not to help us.) The officer kindly asked if we could come in to look for the wallet. The worker refused, saying that the owner wasn't there. The officer made it clear that he would accompany myself and my 15-year-old student (both of us being female around 5'0") into the restaurant. The worker refused and walked back to the store. The officer followed him and talked to him. We could not hear what the officer was saying but we could hear the worker's tone and see his face. It was honestly scary. I am grateful to the SWAT officer for attempting to help us. If he had not been there, then I would have been concerned for mine and my student's safety.
