Additionally mug of tea would have been £1.60 each but pot of tea was £1.90 each with only one small cup of tea plus a very tiny amount extra in the pot. Normally pots of tea served at tea rooms come with pot of hot water to 'top up'. Very disappointed that this was not the case here.

The restaurant itself serves up home-made foods of deliciousness, with much produce coming from the farm. You'll find a yummy sausage and onion baguettes, indulgent cream tea and fresh soups as well as larger meal options (the aforementioned being the three things I've tried!). All the food is a real treat, and with a warming fire in winter, it's an excellent place for a cosy winter pick me up.

The have a main room, a parlour and a delightful garden tucked away at the back. Walkers are invited to remove their muddy boots, children and dogs are welcomed as long as they behave, and smoking is prohibited even in the garden - yes there are rules, but this make for a pleasant experience for all. Tea is served in tin teapots, with bone china cups and saucers, every detail perfected even down to the delicately decorated teaspoons. Coffee is also available along with a wide range of home baked cakes, afternoon tea and fresh scones (the cheese and pecan scones are divine!) A full range of sandwiches, ploughman's lunches and homemade soups are also available for those with a larger appetite, as well as a hearty breakfast menu if you arrive before 12. I would recommend a visit to the village of Alfriston to anybody, it is a picturesque and quaint gem tucked away in the Sussex countryside. Take a walk on the Downs, visit the local pubs, but make sure you save time for a pot of tea and a cheese scone at Badger's!

A great, slightly quirky, traditional pub in a great Sussex village…read more You won't find Chiddingly by accident - it's off a narrow lane off the A22, between Lewes and Eastbourne. The village itself dates back to Domesday and has a fine mediaeval church (worth a visit while there). In fact, the village has 55 entries in the listed building guide, so there's more than enough history to occupy the most hardened tourist before retiring to the pub for refreshment. The pub building dates back to 1774 (and possibly earlier) and is a Grade II listed building; the frontage of blue and red bricks looks suitably traditional, and through the front door there is a main bar area to the left and a wonderful snug room (with a huge fireplace) to the right. The interior is all wooden beams and stone floors, with a bar serving a good selection of real ales and generous portions of traditional pub grub, all with friendly bar staff. (NB The food is popular, so be prepared to wait at busy periods). Towards the rear of the pub, the walls are festooned with old pictures and photographs, and a motorcycling theme predominates: it is a well-known meeting place for bikers, and there's a club board by the back door giving details of events, runs, etc. Outside is a large garden, with lots of seating. The rear of the pub is decorated with old enamel advertising signs, covering every subject imaginable. Also at the back is the large, surfaced car park - perfect for rows of shiny (or, in my case, not so shiny) motorbikes. If all that wasn't enough, the pub also host a fortnightly folk and blues club (http://www.6bellsfolk.co.uk ) as well as its biker meets. Oh, and on my last visit, my mate and I (on our bikes) opted for 2 pints of soda and lime to quench our thirst, with a couple of packets of crisps. It came to £1.80. I was raised partly in Italy and this was some of the best Italian food I've had in 15 years of visiting the U.K. since I graduated Uni there. An Italian family own and operate the place and they're hospitality is second only to the food. Absolutely amazing meal, just tell them what you don't like and they'll bring the rest. I wish I could give them more stars. I will share some of the photos from the beautiful evening I spent on the patio. I just wish I had a lover with me to share the experience with.
