We went with Wing Wah Special Lo Mein, Wing Wah Special Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Combo, Egg Rolls and Szechuan Chicken. Out of the order, I only liked the Lo Mein. The sweet and sour combo pieces were so huge and chunky, and the breading was not good. The sauce was not good either. I took two bites and was done with it. The fried rice was bland and the Szechuan chicken was meh. I can definitely see why this place has a low rating. The food just isn't that good compared to other Chinese restaurants I've been to. I truly wonder at what point they just stopped caring about the quality of food they were serving. I consider myself a true Chinese food lover, I eat it as often as I can. I had noticed the negative reviews but I'm one of those that I like to try on my own and find out. You can say curiosity killed the cat this time around. Ordered the shrimp fried rice, no flavor, full of frozen peas and frozen carrots though. I don't like to waste food but I only ate half of what I bought and tossed the rest. Mrs. Lee was the owner, she sold the business about 10 years ago and I have not been back since about 6 months after she sold it. We placed a simple order - Chicken Fried Rice - Egg rolls. Chinese food 101. Got home- opened the rice it's clearly not fried but steamed, along with some steamed chicken. No egg - no flavor whatsoever . When I called to ask about the order I was told ' this is how we make it and if I don't like it - it's my problem'. Bad food - bad customer service. Understated is an understatement when it comes to this off the beaten path Chinese joint in Lapeer. Double wide meets diner meets Chinese restaurant at Wing Wah Express. Family owned this little place has a strong following in the area. Basically takeout but with a table in the "dining area" the staff is a beehive of activity all the time. Flaming woks and steaming pots abound with a galley kitchen cranking out a steady flow of Formosa favorites. Yes it's standard Chinese but it always fresh and hot. And the selection is quite large. Now here is why you go to Wing Wah. It's the pan fried dumplings! They are awesome. Wok fried and steaming hot these pockets of flavor are super. Great dipping sauce comes with it but pry some hot chili oil out of the kitchen and your dumplings will pop with spicy flavor. Hot and sour soup is also very good and I get some rice to make it a meal.. Someday I might try everything but for now it's dumplings, followed by more dumplings. I don't know what Wing Wah means in English but for me it's says dumplings! Go! read more

The Chinese food in Lapeer is some of the worst you will find, and this place is no exception. Many times the people waiting on you are rude and impatient. They also charge extra for chopsticks, hot chili oil, and anything else that would make the meal enjoyable. My advice is to make it yourself at home. read more

Growing up in Lapeer, my family's Chinese food dollars always went to Wah Wongs. I had Wing Wah a couple times, but was never impressed enough to make the switch... Plus, my family would usually go out for Chinese over getting carry out... and with Wing Wah being carry out only, that really hurt their chances. almost 20 years later, and the tables have turned. I've been spending a lot of time in Lapeer lately and have recently sampled, and resampled, many Lapeer eateries, The quality of food from Wing Wah was superior. The fry job on the sesame chicken was great. The Hot and Sour soup was unique. Not my favorite, but it was still enjoyable. The Wonton Soup, however, was horrible. Worst I ever had. Something was wrong. The broth was flavorless... and the wontons tasted like cardboard. The rice was well cooked (though I wish it had some veggies in it, and maybe some egg) and I really liked the wonton strip crackers that came with my Large Hot and Sour. But they ignored my request for extra veggies with my entrée (not sure if they still charged me). But they did take my order at 9:45PM... and when I got there, the posted hours said they closed at 9:30PM. They didn't bring it up, but I was thankful. I have gotten carry out from here occasionally in the last year, for the most part we have always been pleased with the quality and quantity. Portions are quite large for the price and the service is fast. They now even offer online ordering which makes it a quick stop for an easy dinner. They do a nice job packaging your order as well which is a bonus if you live outside of Lapeer and still want hot food when you get home! My favorite dish has been the chicken or beef and broccoli and general Tso chicken if your looking for something spicy. read more

I really loved the food- the most authentic Chinese food you can expect to get in Michigan and very fast. It is a take out only place but worth it. You can watch them make your food (yeah it's that fresh) and they don't go crazy with the sauces or sugar like the more streamlined Chinese places. And did I mention it is also very fast? Been to a lot of Chinese in my life. The egg drop was bland. The wonton was the worst I have ever had, no flavor at all. Almond chicken was bad, some glop orange sause to go on top. Prob the worst Almond chicken I have ever had. Mongolian beef was good, lots of veg not much meat but the meat was very tastey. The Szechwan chicken was very good, lots of chicken and veg. All three were lunches and came with soup egg roll and fried rice. Egg roll was good and fried rice was good. Too far for me to drive to anyway since I live between Oxford and Ortonville.
