My partner and I have been wanting to come here for a while. We were super excited, and for the most part we had an excellent time. The facilities are well maintained. The activities and rituals are very nice. The unlimited towel and robe exchange is a very nice perk. The relaxation areas are very comfortable and well maintained. The restaurant service is excellent, the decor is lovely, and the food was tasty. We spent seven hours at the spa and tried every single offering. While yes, it can get busier at the midpoint of the day, the evenings are very quiet and you can enjoy many of the pools, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, and cold plunges with little to no other people. We thought the staff were friendly and approachable, and the therapists very professional. We got the Kalla upgrade and it was very cool, a great experience with very thoughtful decor and an extremely interesting experience. This is actually what we came for, the saltwater float pool. It didn't disappoint and was definitely relaxing we spent almost an hour in the float and no regrets. The lockers and change area, while busy, are easy to navigate, and the showers were extremely clean. All in all, we had an excellent time, and this is a great day spa that really offers some peaceful, tranquil, and relaxing spaces. It's a very thoughtful and enjoyable spa. I would absolutely come again.
My issue is what happened after. When I got home, I noticed my lower back was quite inflamed and hot. I didn't think much of it and figured it was my body detoxing and flushing out the not-so-good stuff. I had a mild fever, but again, with all the hot and cold transitions, that's normal. When I woke up the next morning, my lower back was itchy and red, some pimple-like nodes had shown up, and when I accidentally touched one, a bunch of greenish pus came out. It's since been inflamed, itchy, and sore to the touch. I have tried contacting the spa three times, and each time I'm told there is an hour-long wait to speak to someone. I just need to know what may have caused this. Since this is the spa I went to, I imagine they may have some idea of what this could be. I'm going to the walk-in clinic today, because I have never experienced this before. I go to a lot of spas, resorts, and hotels, and I'm a big pool and spa enthusiast. I have never had this happen. I don't care for how hard it's been to connect with someone, and that there isn't any information provided on any of this chain's sites that even addresses this. I went online and found out that this has happened before and does happen because of the Kalla. Again, that's not the issue - I'm not stupid and I know things happen at such busy spas. The issue is I can't find a single way to contact the spa and actually reach a human I can talk to about what this is and what I should do, I have called three times and it's an hour plus wait to speak to someone. That really isn't a great way to cap off such a good experience.
I would say that if you have sensitive skin or concerns, you should ask the staff before or during your visit, so that if something does happen, you know what to do. These are communal baths and spas, and I think it would be helpful to have more "health and safety" information available on both their website and at the spa.
I think finding out secondhand, from a variety of news articles, that you can get a staph infection from the Kalla is not very comforting. I'd have really appreciated more transparency and clear communication.
