This was a really pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be that good, but it was a lot better than I thought. I didn't place the order on the food, so I'll do my best to describe some of my favorite dishes I got to try there. We ordered a lot of food (like 15 or 18 dishes), and overall, most were really good. Food: Vegetable/Minestrone soup (5/5): This was the first time I ever had a tomato based minestrone vegetable soup at a Chinese restaurant and really enjoyed it! It was very light and healthy, but full of flavor and different textures. Stir Fried Beef (4/5): This was another memorable dish that I really enjoyed because the beef was really tender and made well. Service: (4/5): Maybe we got lucky because we knew the chef, or maybe they really do have good service because the waiters were attentive and service was quick. I also really appreciated the fact that they were willing to bring out clean smaller dishes to put the leftovers on to clear out the table before the next dish comes out. Most places will just try to squeeze everything on the lazy susan and then you end up knocking everything over as you're spinning it to get what you want. Overall, really good place to eat. I used to love this place so much and visit quite often for their 干炒牛河 rice noodle with beef but this will be my last time. I'm usually pretty easy going with my food but it was so bad this time that I only took one bite and asked for the check. The noodle looks white... not as brown as it supposes to look and it taste nothing like 干炒牛河. I explained to them how I felt about the dish and asked them if they changed the chef or something. They said yes and that was it. I still paid for something I didn't eat at all... and since I paid by card, I wrote the tips on the ticket, the lady asked if I had cash to tip them instead of writing on the ticket. I'm like ??? Visited wing kee for the 2nd time yesterday to support the moms and pops. I came in to workers arguing with customers which I'm sure it had to be some miscommunication since the workers do not speak much English. After the customer left I was next to order but they didn't speak to me at all. I stood there for 15 minutes while 2 ladies 2 ft from me were talking and cutting meat. I didn't know what else to do but to walk out. Most awkward food moment I've had in a while. Their crispy pork is good but I rather purchase it from a place that wants to sell food to me. I think the food is great and incredible cheap with big portions. The orange ribs are super soft and juicy. The only thing that I don't like probably the portugese curry sauce. They added a bit too much butter. Other things else are awesome. With the price like these, this place deserves 5 stars. Terrible service. Went there for the first time since I wanted to try Chinese BBQ. Man who was cutting the meat yelled at workers and at me for not having enough cash since they do not take credit card. I had $20 and asked for enough bbq meat for $20 including tax. They did not understand English. I told them I only have $20 and do not have extra $2 with the total $22 they charged me. I asked if they can reduce the meat which was well over the 1lb that I asked. I was coming from bay area to houston are for a week, tried a few things in this restaurant. Tried a few things, roast duck, bbq pork, and a few dish. Overall not bad except the BBQ pork, I can tell they do have the skills, the bbq is very crispy and juicy not dried. However the pork itself has the problem, hong konger called it the pig smell. I'm not sure if they're unable to get fresh pig or just bad luck from us that they have a bad pig. It surely taste stinky and pretty disappointed because I know they did a very good job bbqing the pig. Sadly the ingredient failed them. read more

A very simple Cantonese style cafe with popular dishes you see at other Chinese restaurants. The restaurant isn't very big nor is the menu but everything is cheaply priced. There's usually only one person working when I come and I'm usually the only diner but that's ok because the waiter or maybe owner is a very nice gentlemen. New owner. We came for lunch today on 1/1/2020. The restaurant was super busy and it has only 3 staff on the floor. It took a long time for server to come to take our order (they were busy, it can be understood). we decided to add one more dish 10 minutes later after we placed our order. The staff worked behind the cashier told me that he did not have our order at all. Guess what? The waitress put our order in her pocket and forgot about it (I told my family.... they were busy, it's understood). When the soup arrived, the waitress put down the soup bowl so hard; looked like she was mad. My father was about to say something to the staff but I told my dad "they are busy, it's understood and just let it go). My mother asked one question while the waitress was serving the soup, her response sounded like she said "What?" In a unfriendly way. At that point, we just want to wait for all our dishes to come and finished the lunch. My husband asked to have his water refilled three times. Finally, I did one thing that I never had done before; I took his glass to the cashier and said in a very loud and meant voice. "We had been asking for water 3 times!" Sure, I could feel a few seconds of silence; I made sure my voice could be herd. So you might want to ask why I still have three stars? The food is innocent... if you only care about food and don't mind the service, you are coming to the right place. Wing Kee feels like a true "home-y" small family-run cantonese style restaurant. From the way the restaurant is set up, to the workers, to the food, everything screams "authentic asian restaurant experience". Would recommend coming during lunch hours for the "lunch special". I believe for our meal (3 dishes), it all came out to be less than 30 dollars (after tips and everything), shared between 2 people, which was very affordable. Walking in, we were quickly seated. Tables were evenly distributed around the periphery of the open area, with several large circular tables with spinny centers near the middle (my friend taught me the name of these things.. but i forgot what they were called... lol oops). A large TV screen sat on one of the walls, encapsulating the attention of the male half of the several older asian couples. My friend and I decided to sit on the same side of these tables to people watch, which also made sharing food much easier (def rec family styling it up!). For customers familiar with cantonese/chinese styled dishes, this place will not offer anything ground-breaking. You will likely find your favorite and "go-to" chinese dishes here --- baby bok choy, pepper chicken, lots of stir fried things. For our visit, we ordered the baby bok choy, a serving of pork rib with peking sauce, and stir fried tofu with fish fillet. All of the dishes were delicious and feels fresh... just like my mama would make them at home. #authentic! Baby bok choy is always a good and consistent dish that's hard to mess up. Perfect palate cleanser for the more flavorful and saucy dishes like the pork ribs. The Pork ribs were doused with 'peking sauce", a sweet and tangy 'orange chicken-y" sauce. The meat was cooked with slices of onion (yum), and can be a lil on the stronger side if you don't eat it with rice. The stir fried tofu was probably the most well balanced dish. First of all, you should never yell at your staff, and in the loud way you do too. Great cantonese dishes at good prices and they even have lunch specials. First time here we got the dried chow fun and walnut shrimp. Also brought home some char siu. Overall, everything was good. Noodles were not greasy and pretty good wok hei. Reheated them on a pan at home and still tasted good. For the walnut shrimp, the shrimp was cooked beautifully but there was a bit too much of the sauce for my taste. The char siu was decent but a little on the drier side after we took it home. I'll have to try it fresh one day to see how it truly tastes and better judge the flavor. My bf and I will definitely be back to try the other dishes. read more

In my opinion, this place has the best roasted pork I have eaten. However, the customer service (or lack of it) makes it not worth it. Let me explain. We had a donated order placed for 15lbs of roasted pork and 5 whole roasted ducks. I had been reassured that the order had been placed with a pickup time and date of February 11, 2021, which was our Asian New Year Party. I went in one day to place another order for chicken fried rice (which was also good) but wanted to double-check myself on the order of roasted meats. Turns out, there was no name, number, or order associated with the roasted meats. No receipts either. At least I was able to pay for the chicken fried rice (with a credit card). We had called the donor and it turns out there was some misunderstanding as they had to bring in their Chinese friend to translate the order (the folks in the restaurant are not fluent in English). I had the receipt. Finally. Things were looking up. A week later, we had called to see how much would it cost for 20 lbs more of the roasted pork. I wanted also wanted to change the pickup time to an earlier slot but also our friend would pick up all of the orders. Turns out that we had to put down a $100 cash deposit and pay the other half at pickup. We told them we could pay for it all right now but they said that "we don't know how much it will cost" despite them telling us the final price over the phone. They also did not take credit cards that day...but the receipt they gave me for my deposit was the back of an old receipt. What the heck. But the line was getting long and I didn't want to cause a scene, so we gave them the deposit and left with the "receipt". Part of me wanted to just leave and take our business to Sinh Sinh because of their quality AND professionalism. However, I stuck it out and gave them another chance... On the day of our party, 2 and a half hours before the party (and the time for food pick up), our friends told us that they did not have the order for 20lbs of roasted pork (despite us giving them the deposit) nor were the 5 whole roasted ducks available (remember, this was donated for us). Our friends were told to wait for them to cook the duck as they watched the restaurant give away fresh, hot-roasted duck to walk-in customers. They waited there for two hours. Eventually, they managed to put one uncooked duck in the oven but it was too late. We needed the food for the party. We had to ask for a refund of the 5 whole roasted ducks and the 20lbs roasted pork deposit. This was the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant and I do not care how good the pork is. It is a total disservice to customers. For those reading, please do yourself a favor and take your business to another place like Sinh Sinh for their quality food and professionalism. read more

The scallops were quite small and overcooked. The clams were okay, except there were a few dead and foul taste ones in the mix. My family came down to Houston in 1994. Since then as a child I grew up eating at Wing Kee. I currently live in Dallas and as soon as my parents told me Wing Kee decided to reopen after 10 years?! I had to come eat here during my vacation. So far I've eaten here twice. This place is the 3rd generation and the food is just as amazing! I may be bias as I have not sought out enough Cantonese restaurants around Houston but in honesty, this place is definitely one of the best Cantonese restaurant! I've had the following for lunch time, on two different occasion: Singapore Style Flat Rice Noodle: It wasn't too spicy but it had just the right amount of oil, texture, flavor, and ingredients. One of my favorite dishes and it was delicious! House Special Chicken: this chicken is specially made cold and it was refreshing, tasty, and made me lick my lips non-stop. I grew up having my mom make White Cut Chicken at home and this House Special Chicken is a step up! Love it, I am taking some back with me to Dallas. Shanghai Stir Fry with Thick Noodle: I believe my parents order this off the menu actually. You can request this if you like and the kitchen will make it. This was my first time having this dish and it was mouth watering, licking chopstick good :) Toss Fried Flat Rice Noodle with Beef: this is usually the testing dish to see if the kitchen really knows what they are doing. They did not disappoint, with all things consider having limited access to quality "Flat Rice noddles"this dish was good and had a good amount of Beef too! So yummy:) Crispy Shrimp with Shell in Spicy Salt: this was yummy though it was a bit on the salty side. Mapo Tofu: I have eaten Sichuan style mapo tofu and I love love the Sichuan mapo Tofu...and this Is nothing like that. It is more Cantonese style mapo tofu, using soft tofu and the plate is filled with sauce. Perfect for mixing with rice, taste and texture is good! I am definitely looking forward to coming back towards the end of year and having their dinner menu! Until then, the people in Houston you are lucky enjoy it! read more

Decently good Cantonese food! We ordered so many dishes that I can't even remember the majority of them. What were the ones that stood out? The marinated soy duck and the crispy duck. Both were so delicious and crispy that I could have eaten the entire platter! We also ordered some fried tofu that was so light and airy that it gave you the false sense that you needed to eat more. There were your typical veggie dishes, and a decent black bean clam dish. :) Always a crowd pleaser, this place. When I arrived home, I was livid. They gave me Kung pao chicken, and I hate spicy food! The fish was okay but not worth the wait. When I finally got there with my party, we couldn't order anything because the menu was in Chinese (English version soon to come)!! Luckily, we had another friend on the way who reads Chinese and she saved the day! We got to eat! The Host was a very friendly guy, he cracked us up throughout dinner and made suggestions as to what is good. Everything was fresh, yummy and satisfying!
