All these years I have passed by the Wine Vault I am really upset that I have never been in and had a glass of wine. Came in on a Sunday afternoon for a glass of wine with a friend and it was crowded with people on the patio and at the boardwalk because of the perfect weather. I stood around for awhile waiting for a table while waiting for my friend to arrive. No one seemed to be leaving anytime soon so I opted to a table inside which was cooler than outside. I was surprised how many wine options were available inside and how much space is available to sit inside. There are select bottle of wines that are already chilled in a cooler. There is also food available to purchase such as cheese and deli meat to purchase as well. You are able to buy wine by the bottle or by the glass. Glasses start at about $6-$7. My friend and I tried the Moscato that was available by the glass and loved it. We both ended up getting 2 glasses each which after the fact we should've just bought a bottle that was only $22. If you buy a bottle you will receive glasses and a cooler pack for your bottle. I loved the Wine Vault so much I came back 2 days later and brought the boo for date night. We were luckily able to sit on the patio even though it was pretty crowded for a Tuesday night. It was nice to sit outside and people watch as well as order dinner and eat on the patio. I've only visited the Wine Vault once, but if you're looking for a laid-back first date type of place, this will work just fine. Their bottles are reasonably priced and they also have wines by the glass, cushy lounge areas, and lots of other seating, including a patio that I'm sure will be hoppin' in the spring and summer. Only gripe is their lack of decent cheese/cracker/bread selection, which they substitute with sub par packaged cheeses (I understand that they have no kitchen, but their wine quality and snack quality are terribly disparate,) and low end crackers and there is no bread (that I saw.) Perfect spot to sit outside, listen to live music and have a drink. University Area doesn't have much like this, so when we found it, we were in Heaven. This is a chill place that reminds me of being in college. Anytime you can enjoy sunshine while drinking is a good thing. The Wine Vault is in the same area as some other faves (Ciros and Zapatas) which makes it perfect for an after-dinner drink. The live music is typically a dude with a guitar (college!) and they play a lot of covers. This place can get crowded quickly, and you can't take your drinks outside the Vault's "area," so get there early (and often!). read more

Not a bad stop for any warm night in the University area. The atmosphere is fun and relaxing. The decor has a Pier One feel and there is usually live music out on the patio. If you're in the mood to enjoy a glass or wine or beer, but don't want to go bar hoping, this is a great alternative. The place is stocked with different types of wine and beer you're not going to find many other places. While you can buy by the glass or bottle, the bottle is more bang for your buck. While the Wine Vault gets brownie points for location, selection of alcohol and atmosphere. I would say it lacks in customer service, food options and the selection is over priced. I've experienced rude workers from time to time. If there staff was a little bit more kind and their prices weren't so high, the Wine Vault would have scored a little higher in my book. read more

Wine Vault is a hidden gem in the university area. It has an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the area. Inside they have a chill coffeehouse kind of vibe with lots of couches and chairs. When the weather is warm though, the patio is where it is at! They have plenty of tables where you can sip on your wine or beer under an umbrella. They have a great selection of wines - by the glass or by the bottle! The beer selection is great too. Certain nights they have wine tastings or live music! I was actually introduced to the Wine Vault by a professor who used to let us meet there for class! It was a great place to get out of the classroom, yet still quiet enough for us to have discussion. We were never pressed for space either and always found a spot. The inside (especially the furniture and bathrooms) could use an update/upgrade. But maybe the little bit of "grunge" is part of the appeal for some! read more

Wine Vault is very chill with a patio that seats 40+ and is great for people watching and chatting it up with friends and strangers. The wine is reasonably priced. It's really a shame people in Charlotte don't use Yelp very much yet, because this place definitely deserves its props as the best wine bar / shop in the area. No matter what you're interested in, if you want to have a drink the guys and girls here can help you find the perfect match for your palate. The wine selection is hard to beat, and you definitely won't find better deals anywhere else in Charlotte. The beer selection is also top notch, and they even do a yearly tasting outside with close to 100 beers to sample from. One of the best things about the Wine Vault, and something that really sets them apart from the other contenders in this genre, are their weekly tastings. For $5-10 (depending on the quality of the wines that week) you can taste up to 6 wines, and learn a little bit about each one while you do it. There's a large group of regulars who come to almost every tasting, so if you're new to the area it's also a great way to meet some really cool people. There's also an extensive wine cellar (hence the Vault name) downstairs with private bins that you can rent to store you own wine, in addition to a much larger seating area that I think most people don't even realize exists. They do lots of private events down in the main cellar room, so if you want to do a big corporate event like a private tasting it's a really cool atmosphere and something your friends or employees will remember for a long time. My favorite aspect though has to be the almost monthly wine dinners that the shop puts on in conjunction with some of the best restaurants in the Charlotte area. They are always extremely reasonable in price, especially when you compare it to similar offerings around town. Make sure you get on the mailing list, because you definitely want to sign up for these early before they get sold out! read more

It's a nice place to share a bottle of wine with your friends in a relaxed environment. It's set up as if it's a retail store but the prices are much higher than retail anywhere else. They do serve wine and beer by the glass. On Wednesday nights they offer wine tastings for five dollars each but it doesn't start until 7 PM. Honestly you're probably better off going to any other restaurant that serves wine and has outdoor seating. It just doesn't really have much that makes it special. I came here with a group from the university to talk and drink wine, and I was also hungry. We ordered some wine and beer, but I wanted food too. Even a snack, and the place is kinda upscale, so I expected some breads, cheeses, spreads, etc., but there is nothing edible. Some overpriced crackers, nuts, or pretzels. I got some out of desperation, but it was a mistake. The location is good, and the environment was okay, but even without a kitchen they need to put together some kind of nosh plates and simple edibles to go with their wine and beer selection. Yesterday my sister and I had a very bad experience. We have been going to the Wine Vault for years, but unfortunately due to yesterdays bad experience and many other unpleasant experiences we will no longer spend our money there. They have 1 rude employee. As soon as, I walked in I said hello to (the rude employee) and I asked her how her baby was doing because like I said I've been going to the Wine Vault for years and I remember seeing her pregnant. I also remember seeing her baby at the store. She just stared at me. I felt very uncomfortable and I explained​ to her that I've been coming to the Wine Vault for years and I remember seeing her baby at the store. She continued to stare at me and said, "SHE'S OK!" with a very rude tone. I proceed to walk away and select my bottle of wine. I returned to the register to pay for my bottle of wine. I apologized to her by saying, "I'm sorry if I offended you. I was just trying to be nice to you." She continued to stare at me and very rudely said, "I DON'T KNOW YOU!" I just said, "ok". Then she grabbed the bottle of wine and said, "IS THIS TO GO?!" I was about to walk away and never come back, but I decided to pay for the bottle of wine and stay to wait for my sister​. A few months ago, I went to the Wine Vault with my husband. I asked her if she can help me find a wine bottle that is similar to Josh Cabernet. She said very rudely to me that she didn't know of a wine similar to Josh Cabernet. I went to another employee and asked for her assistance. She was very nice and helpful. She helped me select a wine. She was a petite girl with dark hair. I saw her there yesterday. On another occasion (maybe a year ago). I informed her that one of the restroom's was very dirty. She replied again very rudely, "I can't control how men piss!" And she proceeded to walk away. It is very unfortunate that a rude employee has deterred us from the Wine Vault. Goodbye Wine Vault. Hands down the best way to improve mental health: a glass of wine at the Wine Vault. They are always pouring something tasty by the glass so you don't have to be ready to commit to a bottle. Sometimes it can get pretty crowded on the patio especially at the end of the week in summer, but come in for a post-work gossip in the middle of the week and you're likely to have the place almost to yourself. Plus, of course, you can load up on great wine by the bottle, but it's more fun to come there frequently and take the wine home one glass at a time. read more

Ok look if you have money, these people are practically eating from your hands. Most business are this way. However, I must be fair in what I say, They do have great live music entertainment in the summer time from Thursdays to Sundays 7pm to 11pm. It is free. However when my family and I came to enjoy some good music, we had sat at one of there outside tables to enjoy. We figured we would buy something so they would not complain about us just sitting there. Since I do not like to drink in front of my daughter, I bought some crackers and cheese from inside. After about 30 minutes they asked us to leave the tables and sit elsewhere because ALL of their tables were reserved for people drinking. They were very rude about it. This place seemed great until the customer service went sour. I understand the denial of someone that has forgotten their ID, but that doesn't require one to be rude about it. My friend gave me a glass that I sipped one time before the staff yanked it away. So I went all the way home to retrieve my ID, and requested that the glass be replaced at no additional expense. We left shortly after the manager vehemently rejected this request, making the us pay for the unconsumed glass of wine while chastising our behavior. I visited this place a few times and like some of the products they carry. The environment same comfortable when I visited in the past. I encountered the owner twice and both times were unfavorable. This last time was terrible and embarrassing for myself and my guest but shameful for this owner. As a business owner you owe the community a debt of gratitude for supporting your business. I visited with my guest because I spoke highly of this place and she wanted to visit and have an experience of her own. We had just arrived and I asked the gentleman behind the counter for a sample of a wine I intended to purchase. He said no and if I wanted a sample I would have to pay for it. He spoke to me with disdain and reluctance. He give me the impression he didn't want to serve or speak to me. I still made the selection and asked the man to please chill it in the fridge behind the counter till I returned. Upon my return, I noticed another man unpacking some cases of wine WITHOUT A MASK. I approached with my sunglasses on, I proceeded to remove my sunglasses and put on my mask. I was interrupted by this unmasked man, asking me to put my mask on. I said jokingly to the man "sir, you do not have a mask on but you insisting I put mine on, can you give me a second to remove my glasses to put my mask on?" the man said, " that's it, I'm not serving or selling you anything, you can leave." I asked for his manager, he stated he was the OWNER. This was when I asked my lady to step outside so I could speak with this man. I informed him that this was his second time behaving in this way to me. I informed him that he was the only one who behaves that way towards me. I explained to him that his behavior was prejudice and borderline racist. This man had the audacity to state that because he exclusively date black men, he is not racist. I informed him that he had just made a racist comment and he shouted back at me that it isn't racist. At this time, I had had enough and left. I noticed the difference in the way he treats his Caucasian customers and African Americans. I value my money and believe we should all receive the same treatment no matter the color of your skin. The merchandise cost the same for all of us, therefore the treatment should remain the same. THIS WAS DISTURBING AND HURTFUL BECAUSE, I BROUGHT A GUEST AND SPOKE HIGHLY OF THIS PLACE. MY GUEST AND I DID NOT DESERVE THIS. I WILL NOT VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN!!!!! read more

I love finding places that will be added to your rotation of favorite spots. Tucked away in a shopping center near UNCC is the Wine Vault. Sit outside and people watch or brig your pup (there were some inside when I visited) and split a bottle of wine (responsibly of course) with some friends. The glasses we sampled were $7-8 and were a proper pour. If you are in the University area this is the best spot to grab a glass or two of wine in a non-chain/hotel bar. read more

Especially if you're staying at a local hotel- come here and they not only will give you food advice on wine, but at much (much!!) more affordable price than what your local hotel is charging. For instance , university Charlotte Hilton (up the block) is charging upwards of $40 for wines that typically are $7-10. This place is the bomb!!! Too bad it is out in the "boonies" at least to me, as I do not live close at all. But it is worth coming down here in the spring and summer. Great wine selection. You will find any wine here. You can purchase a wine per glass that they have on the menu or you can pick a bottle, purchase it and they will open it for ya and you can drink it there. No cork fee!!
