Highlands, NC is truly a little slice of heaven! If you're ever there, you must have lunch or dinner at the wine garden attached to Old Edwards Inn & Spa! It's such a beautiful and peaceful space to dine, especially with the amazing Spring and Fall temps they get there. We were with a party of 6 (plus a baby), and walked up without a reservation a bit late in the evening. We figured we'd try it and see if we could get in if it wasn't too late, and luckily enough, the hostess was kind enough to make it happen for us! The menu actually has a lot of variety for a wine garden - drinks and food wise. I started with the French onion soup and it was delicious. The Caesar salad was also quite yummy, but the meatloaf was the showstopper of the night! I am still dreaming of it now, and wish I could replicate it myself because it was that good and memorable! For dessert, I ordered the affogato which is their house made vanilla bean ice cream with an espresso shot and it was the perfect ending to the night! Our server was so attentive and kind, and constantly checked in on us and cleared our plates since the tables are a bit on the smaller side. I had an excellent experience all around! read more

After 30 minutes, we finally received drinks that we could tell had been sitting out and had watered down. At the one hour mark, we received our food, which was just mediocre. It could have benefited from having fat rendered more. - ThickBurger was also good; a bit soggy and burger fell apart at the end - Caesar salad was tasty...properly served with great crouton toast and anchovies - Bread pudding was good - Panna cotta dessert was beautiful..unfortunately, looked better than it tasted. It didn't have the creaminess texture and hold up like traditional panna cotta. Tasted more like fruit fluff. Service was spectacular - from the hostess to waitress to the various staff who brought food and cleared our table. Good place to enjoy dinner in a beautiful setting. We took a short drive from Atlanta and made a stop at this lovely establishment for some post-lunch drinks. The outdoor seating area, surrounded by a beautiful garden, instantly appealed to us. Our host greeted us with a warm smile, and our server Steijin provided exceptional service, making us feel genuinely welcomed, which was especially important to me as an immigrant. I enjoyed the refreshing Pink Orchid cocktail. We also tried flavorful Pimento Cheese and crackers. Later, I also had espresso. I loved my drink. Coffee was nice as well. I was so impressed with the overall experience, the inviting atmosphere, and our server hospitality that I'm already looking forward to a future visit. This is a nice little spot nestled in the Highlands, attached to the Old Edwards Inn property. Oddly, I must have missed this place the last time I came to Old Edwards Inn back in 2015. You'll find parking along the street and will probably have to do a short walk to get here. There isn't a ton of tables (maybe 10-15 max) so I'd suggest doing a reservation. It's all outside with a garden atmosphere. It felt to me like we were sitting on an upscale dock. I admit I wasn't hungry when I came here so I didn't really order much. However, I did do their version of apple cobbler and a hot chocolate. My friends all ordered salads and the butternut squash soup (which looked amazing!). Highly recommend the soup, based off presentation and everyone saying great things about it. The apple cobbler was very unique. It came out in a small white baking dish and had a massive apple aroma around it. I've never had anything like it. Part of me wished it were more moist but the other part loved the spiced breading. Try not to imagine what you think apple cobbler normally is when you take a bite, and you'll love it. The apples are baked inside, and there is much more breading than normal, so you really don't get a lot of juicy apple. But it works! And the aroma worked so well that most of my table ordered it after seeing mine. Based off just the apple cobbler, I look forward to coming back here again in the future and trying one of their entrees! read more

Walked up and said it would be 30 minutes. Well... 2 hours later we sat down. Bartender was rude and clearly didn't enjoy her job. Host wasn't very welcoming themselves either. Food and drinks are extremely over priced as well. You're pretty much only paying for the ambiance. I do not recommend coming here unless you can try to make a reservation years in advance which they don't do. Just because they are under the name Old Edwards doesn't mean they are classy and respectful. read more

The goods: beautiful scenery, especially on a crisp fall afternoon. I felt the selection of drinks and foods were great and had just a little of everything. The displays were beautiful and tasty. The bad: I was surprised to find the service lacking. The hostess was very friendly and helpful, however the bartender was very rude. My friend and I just wanted to grab a drink at the bar as we waited for our table, and she was very impatient with us. She immediately wanted our order upon sitting down, without even looking at a menu. We went ahead and ordered a drink and appetizer because we were told it would be a 30 minute wait, however, our seat was available within a few minutes. The bartender was very unclear on whether we needed to close out with her or with the waitress. She made it sound like we had to close with the waitress so we grabbed our drinks to follow the hostess, but then she yelled at us for not paying and staying at the bar. She also told us we wouldn't receive the appetizer at our table, but still had to pay for it. Our waitress was kind and made sure we got our appetizer, but the whole ordeal was VERY strange and unsettling, especially for an establishment with such a high reputation. WOW this place was incredible. We ate outside here one of the first days after quarantine. I got the ribeye with Potatoes, Shallots, and Creamed Broccoli. So delicious. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. I was wondering why they hadn't given me a steak knife, but I didn't even need one! The coca-cola cake was delicious and moist too served with House-made Malted Chocolate Ice Cream. There was a great wine selection obviously and many yummy cocktails. read more

Beautiful outdoor dining in Highlands NC in connection with Old Edward's Inn. A dear friend of mine from college met me there for lunch. It was a gorgeous setting with patio outdoor tables with umbrellas on different levels of decks. We both had a glass of wine to accompany our mountain trout with an array of peas and vegetables. My friend enjoyed a dessert of pecan pie a la mode. Their food was delicious, but very small portions of trout compared with the price of the entrees, hence the four stars. The main focus was on visiting and catching up with a college friend and our lives. We spent three hours enjoying our wine, food, and visiting. The gorgeous outside setting is definitely worth a visit to The Vine. Also, our server was excellent which made our dining even more special. read more

This was our first experience & we didn't realize the restaurant was part of Old Edward's Inn. We intended to sit in the street-side part, but the hostess was afraid of possible rain & recommended we sit at the rooftop location on the 3rd floor where there was better coverage. We arrived, but there was no one to greet us. Luckily, a bartender said the hostess was busy, but would be with us soon. Five mins. later she finally arrived with a taciturn greeting, no apology for the wait, & walked away without asking us to follow. We weren't sure she was seating us, walked hesitantly towards her & she dismissively waved us to a table! I was underwhelmed to say the least. So, we waited another five mins. before our server showed to pour water & take our drink order. The restaurant was about half full, but service was very slow. We had to flag down another server to tell her we were ready to order. Probably 10 mins later we finally ordered. Our food wasn't complicated: two chicken salads & one fish & chips. The dishes were very good. It was chilly as all the shutters were wide open. But the staff didn't seem to notice that we were piling on coats & ordering hot tea to stay warm. Altogether an experience that I don't intend to repeat. read more

My wife and I came here for lunch one day and there was a one-hour wait so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender Vincent was phenomenal. Spoke to us about the menu talked about drinks was very helpful about activities to do in the area and even wished us happy 30th anniversary. The meal was excellent and the service was even better. Normally I love this place. However, last week our visit was a hot mess. Our waiter took 20 minutes to even show up. We got our appetizer 15 minutes later and our cocktails about 15 minutes after our appetizer. The bar tenders were standing around yakking. We planned to eat dinner there but we left. An hour to get a drink from the bar!!! My husband said he's never going there again. It's usually very classy and the garden is beautiful. The garden was almost as sad as the service. Let me first say that all my wife and I had was a glass of wine each and shared a slice of cake, but that was outstanding. The setting is every bit as wonderful as others have described. The temperature was perfect and the service and hospitality is first class. The wine by the glass is limited, but we each found something we liked. I used my servers suggestion to select my glass of white, and it was exactly as she described. Although , initially we were there only for a glass of wine, we kept seeing the slices of lemon curd meringue cake passing our table and couldn't resist trying it. It was the most amazing dessert we've had in awhile. Something unique and too difficult to make at home. Everything about our experience was superb. If the real Gail and Tom had been here they would have told the chef to pack his knives and go. Devon O. and I came back for lunch a week after our first visit. This time we decided to explore past the appetizers and ordered entrees. We started with another cheese plate. This week it was different, but I expected that because part of their concept is to serve fresh food from local farmers. The cheeses were similar and we got a lot of berries plus a flower. I assume the flower was edible even though neither of us wanted to eat it. Our food was served and I was excited to try the chicken sandwich. I'm currently obsessed with portobello mushrooms and they were featured on the sandwich. I don't know how they did it, but somehow my sandwich tasted like it was cooked in a campfire. It's like they opened a bottle of smoke flavoring (I don't even know if there is such a thing) and basted everything in it. My second favorite thing in the world is salt and pepper chips. They even managed to mess that up. They were bland and didn't taste like anything. I sent that back and got their daily flatbread. Chicken Cordon Bleu sounded good enough. It came out and I almost cried. It looked like something you'd make with your after school class in elementary school. Big chunks (kinda like you'd see on a salad bar) of ham and chicken on top of spinach. That was topped with melted pizza cheese on what looked like a flour tortilla. Very disappointing. Looks like we'll have to find a new lunch spot for our future adventures in Highlands. read more

This outstanding casual restaurant at Old Edwards Inn boasts what is probably the best patio in Western North Carolina -- a spacious outdoor setting surrounded by gardens, fountains, and a great view of Main Street. My wife and I paid two visits during a recent stay at the Inn, and both times enjoyed an excellent meal in an unforgettable setting. Their flatbread pizzas were superb, the beer and wine selection extensive, and my wife really enjoyed the salads she ordered on each visit. When we dined there in mid-October, the restaurant had adopted a Biergarten theme for the season. And while no German beer was on the menu, there were a number of fabulous local and regional drafts available in bottles, including labels from Highland Brewery and Sierra Nevada. Whether or not you're staying at Old Edwards, the Wine Garden is a wonderful spot to enjoy lunch, dinner or drinks during a visit to Highlands. read more

This place was recommended by a family member for being a great place to have lunch and it was perfect. A beautiful atmosphere with a great drink and food menu. The service was impeccable. We started off with 2 glasses of refreshing Rose and then ordered our lunch. My wife ordered the pizza of the day and it was wonderful! Crispy flatbread with fresh sauce, creamy cheese, brisket, pork belly, mushrooms and red onion.... a cheesy, meaty love fest! I ordered the Caesar Salad and it was crisp, flavorful and had some fresh anchovies on the side. It hit the spot like pancakes after church! Love this place! I have been going here for years. As with most things O.E., everything is well done. Great food and service. Love the bartender he is so pleasant and aware of everyone. Also there is the.... BEST THING I EVER ATE.... the PAVLOVA. Soooo delicious, light, and fluffy with berries, meringue and a hint of lemon curd. It's also a beautiful dish. We were celebrating our anniversary on a road trip during a global pandemic, so we sat outside to eat at 47F. Wow! The Caesar salad was amazing, with crunchy roasted kale and delicate white anchovies. Yummmm. We also had the lovely burger and the comforting and creamy shrimp & grits...so delicious!! We got a piece of pecan pie to go and they even included a tiny tub of ice cream to go with it. It turned out to be a little personal pie with a crust like phyllo. My parents, who have lived in Cashiers for over 35 years, recommended this place on a recent visit, although they have only dined there only for lunch, we went for dinner. All I can say is, never, never have I been in a restaurant the represented no (zero) value for the money. While the food was good, it was not delivered in timely manner, but the kicker was, the portions were pitiful, and I mean pitiful. There were three of us, and one was a restauranteur, the other a restaurant designer, and we all were completely astounded by both the poor service and the lack of value. A glass of a $7 bottle of North County Pinot Noir (retail) was $11, for 3, maybe 4 ounces! When we complained, the waiter said "they" fill to the bottom of the acorn etched on the glass....really! Another, but very nice waitress, saw what was going on and came over and added another 3 ounces to our glasses in an effort to appease us. Then the food came. I had the Burger and a Caesar salad, the burger which I ordered Medium rare, it came medium, the salad came with the dinner, not before. Again the Portion was a pitiful 6 ounces for $15, then they charged $6 for fries, a total of $21, again a total rip off. One of my guests had the Fish of the Day (Grouper), for $28, and while he said it was good, it was 4 ounces (4" x 4"), again, a total rip off. By the time diner had arrived, the sun had set, and we literally sat in the dark for over a half hour, that was until the end of dinner, when the aforementioned nice waitress, who wasn't even our's, brought us candles. Eventually the one of the managers came over, gave us a less than empathetic apology and explanation of her perception of value, and then offered to buy us two deserts. In sum, this was the first restaurant I have ever dined in that obviously defined their menu completely by spreadsheet first, as there was, again, is no value anywhere on the menu or wine list. All I can say is, for any consumer that works hard for their money, this is definitely not the place to spend it, at least for dinner. read more
