Fun awesome selection of draft beers, friendly service and they remember your name! Food is reasonably priced and everything I've tried has been onolicious!

Happy hour home made slice of pizza and a beer only $5

Windward bar is located inside of Kailua Whole foods. (They revamped it, but it looks the same to me) great beer on tap, on Fridays Prime members get 2 slices of pizza for $5 and $1 fresh Oysters that they will shuck for you in the seafood dept. ! Happy hour pricing, you can eat inside or out, it's a great casual Kailua hang out, and we always run into some one & end up talking story. You can order from their menu or buy a poke bowl or salad bar inside, order a beer or 2 and eat outside. And they have a Moichi ice cream bar!! Grab one of their baked daily desserts while you're there too. It's like a huge modern cafeteria! I also love how they are dog friendly outside as well. Thursdays is Farmers Market, so it can be busy. Grocery shopping and having a beer or cider afterwards as a reward, what more can a woman want?!

Everytime I go to this Whole Foods bar I am blown away! The food is always on point! Their Kalua Pork Nachos are out of this world. They do not skimp on the Kalua Pork like other places. You'll get large chunks of shredded juicy smoke pork, covered in gooey melted cheese and topped with a large helping of avocado. Here they actually cut their crinkle cut fries thin, and it's a great trend! I'm not usually a fan of crinkle cuts, but they are doing it right! I finally got to try Paradise Ciders on Tap. I am absolutely smitten with their Prickly Pear, wow! Great selection of beers on tap!

I love having a Whole Foods close enough to walk to, but being in downtown with all the tourists means it's so jam packed and crazy, I practically only go here if I'm willing to walk. At first we were thrilled that WF had their own tap room and bar, but after repeated bad experiences, I drag my feet now if my husband wants to go. Positives are that they pour local brews and circulating others, and have interesting items on their menu. Also, it's one of the only places with good prices to fill growlers, which we like doing. Negatives are pretty much everything else. Service is horrible, the wait is super long, the food is mediocre, and good luck getting anything unless you're sitting at the bar. Definitely the place I will only be going to for growler fills and then getting the heck out of there.

Started our pub crawl here, friendly staff. Happy hour doesn't apply on weekends but they had $4 pint specials on a few. Lots of parking

Taro Burger (back); Fish & Chips (front)

Healthy, organic, soy-based food, to name a few. Always had a preconceived notion that healthy meals can't taste as good as "un-healthy" ones. I've been proven wrong, as of late, thanks to my partner. After an afternoon hike at Lanikai Pillboxes, we decided to have lunch at Windward Bar. The menu, though not plentiful, has options to fulfill your craving. I went with their Fish and Chips. A sucker for Fish and Chips, it caught my attention and interest to experience it made the healthy way. I was far from disappointed. Plated beautifully, fish juicy, a relish tarter sauce to accompany -- best version I've had. My partner had a Taro Burger which was just as delicious. This burger will be indulged in on my next visit. The Windward Bar is a must try when searching for a casual eatery with great food when in the Kailua Town area.

Valentine's Day tasting menu

This is doomed to be a somewhat biased review since it's only based on one experience, and more specifically a special event. The Windward Bar offered a $35 multi-course tasting menu this Valentine's Day that far exceeded all our expectations, in terms of quantity and quality of the food. From the bloody Mary oyster shooter to the raspberry cheesecake, with everything else in between, including the ahi poke, fried chicken and heart-shaped waffles, bison sliders, berry salad, Thai pumpkin and coconut soup and grilled cheese, and ceviche and purple sweet potato chips, everything was beautifully prepared and presented. We had a minor complaint that it took too long for the food to come out, but for the price and what we got, it was an amazing dinner. The courses were definitely larger than one would expect a "tasting menu" would have, and they aren't regular items on the menu at the bar. The place wasn't busy, so maybe they overestimated the number of guests and thus had surplus ingredients for those who did come. We were all stuffed way before the end of the meal, and it seemed like everyone else had a big portion of food boxed up as well. Who would've thought a Valentine's Day dinner on the back patio at Whole Foods would be such a good idea?

The team here is awesome. This is a great place to kick back and enjoy a casual evening. Casey, Rick, Levi, Ellie, Kayla, and Tina are always a pleasure. The food is great. The team is so friendly. They are always happy and pleasant. Happy hour has great prices.

First and foremost on the list for our search, was…read morewe hoped to find a place that had televised sports (both Monday Night Football and the World Series were on--but remember, this is Hawaii--way-out in the Pacific, so live-games come on in the afternoon or even earlier). Multiple screens make it so there is not a bad seat in the house. We also hoped to find a place with more of a "neighborhood/locals" energy to chill and relax our tired dogs (feet) in...and also, if it wasn't asking too much, hoped that it would have a fun vibe. (*Check those criteria off). "Icing on the cake", for us would be if the location had decent food. (Check that one off and put an exclamation point behind it--as the nachos we had were, "Fire".) As fate would have it, a lucky break was to be had as we walked in to the very-full bar. There, before us, were two stools at the bar (*the last remaining spots in the place) and they happened to be open. Side note: The bar has a speak-easy attached to it, and one day, we are gonna try it. Going there has been mentioned a few times when we have chatted with locals and tourists regarding memorable and unique things to do. Our servers were pleasant and accommodating despite the fact that the place was "choke widd plenty-kine cust-a'mah" (local pidgin for, full of customers). It's a hard balancing act to make patrons feel welcomed, but also not leave other thirsty tables waiting for too long. The two pretty blondes working that afternoon did a fantastic job at this. My seasonal sour beer hit all the right notes, and my wife seemed to enjoy her less exotic tap beer (Blue moon with an orange slice--served ice cold). There is a ton of beers to choose from here. Lighting in the Kailua Tavern is kinda darkish (not a problem, as I like me a dark bar sometimes). The locals were very-welcoming. One guy offered his table to us when he noticed our food had arrived and our plates were a bit pinned in. Also, anyone who happened to be sitting near us immediately engaged in friendly banter about the games. One guy of Tongan decent, who was probably 6'5" and had muscles piled-on to his massive frame came over and leaned in very close to ask, "Hey DEN, Bradah, YOU MIND FOR IF I GO DANCE WICH YOU DATE?" (*That didn't happen, I thought channeling a classic moment from the bar-scene in, Animal House, would be funny...but like the Toronto Blue Jays in the late innings of last night's game, "Swing and a miss". ) The Kailua Town Tavern was the opposite of a swing and a miss for us. It was fun and a good place to "chill"; the vibe was what we had hoped for; and of special note were the steak strips on the nachos, as they were superb.

The music is at a great volume not to loud or to soft. I see family's with younger kids enjoying themselves. Everyone seems friendly with a few sassy severs with fake smiles. They walk by you without acknowledging you definitely fixable to smile and greet every guest. The. Urgent was delivered within 15 minutes and was exactly as described on menu. The Brownie Sunday is also served warmed and delish. The garlic fries was okay not worth the upsell for sure. All in all the meat was great... let's see the cost with out a drink. Beautiful decor of imitation plants that even the bathrooms were beautiful especially the women's bathroom by the kitchen. Even the Men's bathrooms were decorated. It's something you should see! You wouldn't even think there's a place like this in Kailua. There were a few steps to the door of the restaurant but as we exit the waitress let my mom through the back which had no stairs but a ramp leading to the side parking along the restaurant right side, since she was using a walker. I first came with my friend for dinner and I came with my mom for brunch after her dentist appointment, because I wanted to show her what became of the beloved Four Star Chop Suey decades ago. Brunch menu was not the usual breakfast items that we were used to, but I ordered what I thought she would like best. We had Breakfast Hash with potatoes, sausage, cheese, eggs, bell peppers but the sauce was a little spicy for mom. There were ingredients in the sauce which maybe was too much for mom. Citrus mint fruit salad, and Southern Chicken Biscuit and Gravy. The gravy was different.fitness good but, I preferred the dinner selection when I came with a friend who traveled all the way from Kapolei for some shared dishes and appetizers. She really liked it and it was flavorful and unique. We had the following dishes: Local Braised Oxtail Patatas Bravas Seared Poke nachos Seasonal Hummus Deconstructed Baklava Cheesecake Hiusemade breads Citrus mint fruit salad I would order everything again! The Oxtail was flavorful and delicious, The homemade breads were so warm and fresh. The breads were served with the seasonal hummus, and I love the citrus mint dressing on the fruits! So refreshing! Night time was busy and we didn't have reservations, so we were lucky we didn't have those high top table and chairs . Best to have reservations for dinner. Weekends have night entertainment in the bigger dining area. We came earlier, but as the night went on, it got busier and our waitress was also assisting other customers in the other room, so we were missed . Service could have been better. Not too many of my townie friends had made it to this side but it's a nice place to dine at to experience their food and beautiful ambiance! There were a few side parking stalls along the right wall of the restaurant, otherwise you would need to find street parking. There's a nearby 24 hour municipal parking lot and it's still a quarter of 20 minutes. This restaurant is not in the main Kailua town area. If you haven't been to Kailua, Kailua is a nice town to try all these different restaurants. You be surprised and pleased. They are closed on Monday & Tuesday. Brunch is on weekends from 9 am to 1 pm. Otherwise they open from Wednesday thru Sunday from 4pm to closing at 9pm and on Friday & Saturday nights they are opened til 11pm.

The setting: I really like the vibe they went with for valentines and the decor, I like the lowlight setting as well. The banyan tree decor in the middle of the restaurant was a nice touch. Service: our host and our waiter were awesome, very pleasant and helpful. The food: it was a fixed menu due to Valentine's Day, I guess I did not see that when I booked the reservations or it was listen on the open table app. I wish I had known because I wanted to try other dishes. Anyways.. we got to each choose an appetizer so we got the coconut shrimp which omgggg really good, that sauce was a perfect touch, the shrimp was nicely crispy. We also got the beef tataki which was another fav I must say. The main entrees was ok, I only say this because we got the lamb and fish. The lamb came with 4 pieces but 2 were cooked good and the other 2 seemed like it could have been cooked a little longer. The fish to me was also over done and a little touch and hard. I will go back because I do wanna try other things on their menu. Overall we still made it a great night and will come back again.
