Happy hour home made slice of pizza and a beer only $5
    Mary Q.

Windward bar is located inside of Kailua Whole foods. (They revamped it, but it looks the same to me) great beer on tap, on Fridays Prime members get 2 slices of pizza for $5 and $1 fresh Oysters that they will shuck for you in the seafood dept. ! Happy hour pricing, you can eat inside or out, it's a great casual Kailua hang out, and we always run into some one & end up talking story. You can order from their menu or buy a poke bowl or salad bar inside, order a beer or 2 and eat outside. And they have a Moichi ice cream bar!! Grab one of their baked daily desserts while you're there too. It's like a huge modern cafeteria! I also love how they are dog friendly outside as well. Thursdays is Farmers Market, so it can be busy. Grocery shopping and having a beer or cider afterwards as a reward, what more can a woman want?!

Everytime I go to this Whole Foods bar I am blown away! The food is always on point! Their Kalua Pork Nachos are out of this world. They do not skimp on the Kalua Pork like other places. You'll get large chunks of shredded juicy smoke pork, covered in gooey melted cheese and topped with a large helping of avocado. Here they actually cut their crinkle cut fries thin, and it's a great trend! I'm not usually a fan of crinkle cuts, but they are doing it right! I finally got to try Paradise Ciders on Tap. I am absolutely smitten with their Prickly Pear, wow! Great selection of beers on tap!

I love having a Whole Foods close enough to walk to, but being in downtown with all the tourists means it's so jam packed and crazy, I practically only go here if I'm willing to walk. At first we were thrilled that WF had their own tap room and bar, but after repeated bad experiences, I drag my feet now if my husband wants to go. Positives are that they pour local brews and circulating others, and have interesting items on their menu. Also, it's one of the only places with good prices to fill growlers, which we like doing. Negatives are pretty much everything else. Service is horrible, the wait is super long, the food is mediocre, and good luck getting anything unless you're sitting at the bar. Definitely the place I will only be going to for growler fills and then getting the heck out of there.

Started our pub crawl here, friendly staff. Happy hour doesn't apply on weekends but they had $4 pint specials on a few. Lots of parking

The team here is awesome. This is a great place to kick back and enjoy a casual evening. Casey, Rick, Levi, Ellie, Kayla, and Tina are always a pleasure. The food is great. The team is so friendly. They are always happy and pleasant. Happy hour has great prices.

Healthy, organic, soy-based food, to name a few. Always had a preconceived notion that healthy meals can't taste as good as "un-healthy" ones. I've been proven wrong, as of late, thanks to my partner. After an afternoon hike at Lanikai Pillboxes, we decided to have lunch at Windward Bar. The menu, though not plentiful, has options to fulfill your craving. I went with their Fish and Chips. A sucker for Fish and Chips, it caught my attention and interest to experience it made the healthy way. I was far from disappointed. Plated beautifully, fish juicy, a relish tarter sauce to accompany -- best version I've had. My partner had a Taro Burger which was just as delicious. This burger will be indulged in on my next visit. The Windward Bar is a must try when searching for a casual eatery with great food when in the Kailua Town area.

One of my friends is a regular here-- and she got a round of tequila shots for everyone. I tried to get the attention of the bartender on my own without luck since it was so busy, so it's nice to be rolling with a windward side friend. We did end up leaving shortly after because it was very crowded (on Halloween, as expected) and just wasn't the vibe. People may say that 3 stars is harsh, but for a dive bar that's exactly where the bar is. I would go again, but not without a good group with me.

She described it as a place out of a Stephen King novel and she was right. It was a wonderful mix of a biker bar, military bar and a few locals. The drinks were good, bartenders were friendly music was happening and there's dart boards to keep you entertained. It's definitely a fun place to visit. They have a small parking lot right in front of the place and Apple street parking and other parking nearby. There's even a food truck that parks close by on weekends if you want something to snack on. They also sell chips and beer nuts. It's not my kind of place but definitely worth checking out if you are into a authentic dive bar experience.

First and foremost on the list for our search, was…read morewe hoped to find a place that had televised sports (both Monday Night Football and the World Series were on--but remember, this is Hawaii--way-out in the Pacific, so live-games come on in the afternoon or even earlier). Multiple screens make it so there is not a bad seat in the house. We also hoped to find a place with more of a "neighborhood/locals" energy to chill and relax our tired dogs (feet) in...and also, if it wasn't asking too much, hoped that it would have a fun vibe. (*Check those criteria off). "Icing on the cake", for us would be if the location had decent food. (Check that one off and put an exclamation point behind it--as the nachos we had were, "Fire".) As fate would have it, a lucky break was to be had as we walked in to the very-full bar. There, before us, were two stools at the bar (*the last remaining spots in the place) and they happened to be open. Side note: The bar has a speak-easy attached to it, and one day, we are gonna try it. Going there has been mentioned a few times when we have chatted with locals and tourists regarding memorable and unique things to do. Our servers were pleasant and accommodating despite the fact that the place was "choke widd plenty-kine cust-a'mah" (local pidgin for, full of customers). It's a hard balancing act to make patrons feel welcomed, but also not leave other thirsty tables waiting for too long. The two pretty blondes working that afternoon did a fantastic job at this. My seasonal sour beer hit all the right notes, and my wife seemed to enjoy her less exotic tap beer (Blue moon with an orange slice--served ice cold). There is a ton of beers to choose from here. Lighting in the Kailua Tavern is kinda darkish (not a problem, as I like me a dark bar sometimes). The locals were very-welcoming. One guy offered his table to us when he noticed our food had arrived and our plates were a bit pinned in. Also, anyone who happened to be sitting near us immediately engaged in friendly banter about the games. One guy of Tongan decent, who was probably 6'5" and had muscles piled-on to his massive frame came over and leaned in very close to ask, "Hey DEN, Bradah, YOU MIND FOR IF I GO DANCE WICH YOU DATE?" (*That didn't happen, I thought channeling a classic moment from the bar-scene in, Animal House, would be funny...but like the Toronto Blue Jays in the late innings of last night's game, "Swing and a miss". ) The Kailua Town Tavern was the opposite of a swing and a miss for us. It was fun and a good place to "chill"; the vibe was what we had hoped for; and of special note were the steak strips on the nachos, as they were superb.

Beautiful decor of imitation plants that even the bathrooms were beautiful especially the women's bathroom by the kitchen. Even the Men's bathrooms were decorated. It's something you should see! You wouldn't even think there's a place like this in Kailua. There were a few steps to the door of the restaurant but as we exit the waitress let my mom through the back which had no stairs but a ramp leading to the side parking along the restaurant right side, since she was using a walker. I first came with my friend for dinner and I came with my mom for brunch after her dentist appointment, because I wanted to show her what became of the beloved Four Star Chop Suey decades ago. Brunch menu was not the usual breakfast items that we were used to, but I ordered what I thought she would like best. We had Breakfast Hash with potatoes, sausage, cheese, eggs, bell peppers but the sauce was a little spicy for mom. There were ingredients in the sauce which maybe was too much for mom. Citrus mint fruit salad, and Southern Chicken Biscuit and Gravy. The gravy was different.fitness good but, I preferred the dinner selection when I came with a friend who traveled all the way from Kapolei for some shared dishes and appetizers. She really liked it and it was flavorful and unique. We had the following dishes: Local Braised Oxtail Patatas Bravas Seared Poke nachos Seasonal Hummus Deconstructed Baklava Cheesecake Hiusemade breads Citrus mint fruit salad I would order everything again! The Oxtail was flavorful and delicious, The homemade breads were so warm and fresh. The breads were served with the seasonal hummus, and I love the citrus mint dressing on the fruits! So refreshing! Night time was busy and we didn't have reservations, so we were lucky we didn't have those high top table and chairs . Best to have reservations for dinner. Weekends have night entertainment in the bigger dining area. We came earlier, but as the night went on, it got busier and our waitress was also assisting other customers in the other room, so we were missed . Service could have been better. Not too many of my townie friends had made it to this side but it's a nice place to dine at to experience their food and beautiful ambiance! There were a few side parking stalls along the right wall of the restaurant, otherwise you would need to find street parking. There's a nearby 24 hour municipal parking lot and it's still a quarter of 20 minutes. This restaurant is not in the main Kailua town area. If you haven't been to Kailua, Kailua is a nice town to try all these different restaurants. You be surprised and pleased. They are closed on Monday & Tuesday. Brunch is on weekends from 9 am to 1 pm. Otherwise they open from Wednesday thru Sunday from 4pm to closing at 9pm and on Friday & Saturday nights they are opened til 11pm.

But don't let that deter you. We waited quietly and patiently at the check in counter, and watched the staff walk between taking orders, delivering water and dishes. No one caught our eye to say we'll be with you in a minute, even if they stood right in front of us touching their counter pad. We thought we were being ignored. We didn't try to stop anyone, though. Others from behind squeezed past us to just get seats at the bar. However, we had a group of five wanting to dine in at a table. I watched as seated guests waited for someone to take their orders. As soon as staff were able to engage, we were greeted, and advised where we'd be seated once another staff member had mopped the floor by the table. And then the service was great from there. Well into our meal, which was delish(!), with water refills and requests fulfilled, we discovered there was a brand new gal on deck who was trying to be helpful with utensils and napkin prep, but no one had a chance to train during the lunch rush, which was above the normal crowd because of the wonderful community event right outside - the "I Love Kailua" street fair). Everything was just super busy. And I say lunch rush with tongue in cheek because it was well past the lunch hour and people were still lining up out the door.
