The rooms are large and comfortable and nicely updated and decorated. The backyard and patio are amazing, with both a pool, a hot tub, and plenty of spaces to kick back and relax w/ a cup of coffee or glass of wine. The owners are very sweet and helpful and make a wonderful breakfast. We enjoyed eggs, sausage, and hazelnut encrusted french toast, with a cup of fruit and plenty of coffee and tea and juice. We enjoyed our stay at the R&R Guest House and highly recommend it for a quick getaway from Portland!!! Highly recommend staying here if you are in The Dalles.

We stayed here in October. We really wanted to try new things for this weekend getaway. The Dalles…read moreinstead of Hood River, new places to visit, new place to stay, etc. We have stayed in B&Bs and small guest inns before. We have had one where the hosts can't quit talking. Or where they were so creaky that you hesitate to use the bathroom at night for fear of waking up the whole building. Truthfully, R&R Guest House is none of those things. Kevin and Julie are friendly and will help you with as much or little guidance as you want on local hikes, wineries etc. But they aren't in your face or space... Another big highlight is that this property feels new and old at the same time. Definite charm retained in their remodeling. Yet, no feeling of "this doorknob might come off in my hand." And the hot tub and pool are very, very nice. The landscaping is lush and well laid out. Finally--the two meals we hadat this B&B was consistently the best meals we had that weekend, compared to restaurants in both Hood River and The Dalles. Not too often I give an unequivocal thumbs up, but here you go.

Construction/Remodeling have been going on for over a year yet these room haven't changed. I think I had room 212 or 214 in 2024. But now I think the Rayland Hotel and The Dalles Inn are two different properties but all managed through the same lobby? These side building rooms don't match with the $175/night price. Outlets so worn that the weight of a cord pulls it out of the socket, WIFI signals that are week at best, hole patches where spackle is just slapped on, filling in the wall texture and then not painted over. Porcelain over cast tubs that are chipped exposing the cast iron. Wood baseboards pulled out from the wall. Headboards that have small tears/punctures in them and look like a cat tried to run up them. Toilet flushes take 20 seconds to flush and seem to use about 10 gallons of water to do it. The Dalles Inn was disappointing because now I see they are different "levels" of stay, but even so, for the pricing, the rooms should/could be much better. Replace some plugs, take some time and spackle better, replace a toilet (and save the business thousands of gallons of water). Just some relatively simple stuff, checked and fixed on a regular basis makes The Dalles in a much better stay. It was clean, but for the price, I just can't recommend The Dalles in until is more like the Rayland Hotel.

Overall a pretty decent experience for a very budget motel…read more I recently stayed here for nine nights, which is the longest I've ever stayed at any m/hotel in my life. The entire staff was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The first seven nights, I was in a double queen on the second floor. The last two nights, I was in a single queen on the second floor. For whatever reason, the double queen was much, much quieter than the single queen. The single queen seemed to be directly above the laundry room, and some of the noises coming from there were frighteningly loud. Both rooms were decently clean. Neither was perfect or spotless, but there weren't any serious issues. I inspected both rooms very thoroughly for bed bugs (and I know how), and was not able to find any. The continental breakfast was about average. The waffle machine was working the whole time I was here, and the staff kept the batter dispenser stocked. Every single day, there was yogurt, cereal, Big Texas cinnamon rolls, and bread with jam. Things that came and went depending on the day were juice, butter, and fresh fruit. Note: The sugar-free apple jam smelled like one of the chemicals we used in my anatomy class on cadaver lab day. A small swimming pool was open during daytime hours, but I did not make use of it. As other guests have noted, there is a lot of old damage to the hotel that hasn't yet been fixed or replaced. The carpets in the rooms have been replaced with those cheap wood panels, but the main areas still feature very heavily soiled carpet. The blackout curtains in my room were decent, but had lots of small tears on them which, if I had to guess, look like a rat climbed the curtain at some point in the past. (This was also evidenced by a hole in the window screen.) The mini fridge and microwave both worked well. Most of the lamps worked well, although there was an eerie mixture of white and yellow light. The showers both had decent pressure, and I noticed the staff changing the curtains of every open room every day. While this is certainly not a luxury motel, I didn't feel too icky at all about showering (with my Birks, of course) or sleeping in the bed. Most of the guests are either construction workers, backpackers, or temporarily displaced, like myself. For this reason, for a motel, it's actually very quiet. Most of the hotels I've stayed in have been in Vegas or Tahoe, so this is probably the quietest motel I've ever experienced. I didn't hear any yelling, partying, or loud music at all. In spite of some issues with building repairs, it's safe enough, and comfortable enough.

We were situated on the ground floor of building A, near the end. Our view was mostly the service road that runs behind the hotel, but we did get a glimpse of the river, so I guess that counts. The room was large and "clean". I definitely believe it was cleaned prior to our stay, however, the carpet is old and stained, and furniture chipping away. Not really a big deal since we only spent about 12 hours in the room, mostly sleeping. Linens were fresh and the bed was comfy. We were also able to have our dog stay with us, which is one of the reasons why I booked to this location. This Shilo Inns is extremely dated, though the property is in the midst of an upgrade. When we arrived for check in, the main entrance was inaccessible because they were redoing it, so it took me a minute to figure out where I could enter on the side. Signage would have been helpful! The check-in process was quick and the man at the counter was super nice and accommodating. Other than that, we had no interaction with the staff. Breakfast was included in our stay (5a-9a daily). Nothing fancy, your typical free continental breakfast at a low/ mid-range hotel: coffee, tea, little plastic container juices, fruit, bagels and muffins, some cereals, oatmeal, etc. Enough to get some food in our bellies before we hit the road.
