Important note: We had no idea--since we had never replaced windows before--that "window replacement" just means inserting a new glass unit into the existing frame, not replacing the entire window 1:1. The company representative never mentioned this, and we assumed it was obvious what "replacing a window" meant. That's why, after brief negotiations, we accepted the price for replacing a few windows. We thought it would be worth it. After the installation, when we realized what "window replacement" actually involved, we felt completely ripped off. We would have never agreed to such an inflated price just to replace the central part of the windows and--on top of that--lose 20% of the glass surface. The manager at Universal Windows Direct completely ignored us. He never responded to our texts, even though we asked repeatedly. The technician promised to follow up the next day. No one ever got back to us. We called and messaged multiple times. They tried calling us but that was against our clear request to contact us via text or leave a specific phone number since we're often unable to answer phone calls. But that's not all. After signing the contract, we received no paperwork. Two months later, we got a call about the installation date--and that was it. The installation itself didn't go smoothly either--someone messed up the window handles, and we had to wait another two full months for the correct ones. No joke--two months of unusable sliding glass doors. And did I mention they installed new glass units into the old frames and didn't bother to address the parts of the frames that clearly needed repair? We only received copies of the contract, warranty, and invoice after calling the company office following the final handle installation. Our suggestion for a discount--flat-out ignored. This is not a professional business--let alone an ethical one.

As promised Project manager Larry came to my home measured and showed me the process of installation, giving me the comfort I made the right decision. I will start with the exceptional workmanship/craftsmanship from the installation crews. We had a…read moresun room put on the back of the house. We got quotes from a few places and all quotes were comparable in price. We decided to go with Windows Plus I suppose because we liked Todd, the sales person, also we were impressed with the quality of the windows and that the room was going to be framed instead of a patio enclosure. And we could not be more pleased with the outcome. I know another reviewer stated that it was all done right the first time, that is how we felt about the room edition. My husband is very particular and ALWAYS has a punch list. But not this time. Literally all windows, framing, caulking, installation was perfect (with the exception of a small defect in one of the screens). We have talked to our salesperson, Todd regarding this matter and he will come to take pictures of the room and said they will take care of that, which I don't doubt they will. They had to put a roof onto the back of our house. That was the first part of the project and that happened in early November of 2020. The roofing crew, leg by Daniel put the roof on/ framed the room and poured concrete footers for the windows in 4 days. They were meticulous, cleaned up each day, were polite, answered all our questions and accommodated our needs as they worked. They had to attach the new roof to an existing patio roof as well as the back of the house. Within a couple of weeks the old section of the roof began to leak, we believe due to them walking/working in that area to add the new roof. We called to discuss this with Todd and within a few days the roofers were back and repaired the leak in the old roof. So even though it was a mishap they made it right, right away. At this point they were able to measure for the custom made windows/doors. Once the windows came in they started installation on January 26, 2021. This crew, Brandon, Josh and Matt were as meticulous as the roofer/framers. Again, they could not have been more polite, knowledgeable and professional. They 3 of them worked 3 (10+ hour days) to complete the work. As mentioned above there was no punch list. Everything was done to perfection the first time around. Reason for 4 star and not 5 star review deals with company communication. Although all was done to our sanctification I had to call them to inquire about when the crews were coming. We had made arrangements with the Todd regarding the electrical package and had to get that worked out once electricians got here due to them having different information. The contract stated work would be completed in 12-16 weeks, which would have been by Dec. 19 and the work was actually finished on January 28, 2021. If the company would have called me to let me know they were behind, windows had not arrived, weather delayed work, Covid delayed work I would not have been as concerned but I had to keep calling to find out what was going on and to check on time frames. I do understand things happen but again if timelines had been communicated to me I would have been disappointed but would have understood and would have given a 5 star review. I would recommend the workmanship and the quality of the windows.

I used Yelp's Request A Quote to find a roofer/contractor. And considering our leak happened on a Sunday night, that's when I reached out to several companies. Many got back to me within the hour, including River City Vinyl Supply & Roofing. And if it weren't for a rainstorm on Monday, he would have come out that day. But he was able to come and look at the problem and have it fixed within an hour or so on Tuesday. John was speedy yet not pushy. He brought with him one of his employees, who actually got on our very tall roof to look at the problem. He talked through what he found with me and sent me a formal quote before proceeding. Turns out the flashing had pulled away from the chimney, and the mortar between several of the bricks had worn away. He showed me some photos of the roof to help me understand. After he was done, I was able to pay him easily via PayPal. And now we're talking to him about tackling our rickety, falling apart gutters as well. I'm happy to add John and River City Vinyl Supply & Roofing to our list of trusted companies that can work on our home.
