If I could give no stars that would be better. We just moved to our home in January. On 8/22 we had an emergency that our septic backed up into our washing machine. Wind River came out and pumped our tank said everything looked normal. We paid them a $100 emergency fee plus fee for pumping totaled around $400. Fast forward 2 weeks later same thing happens septic backs up into washer again. I call the company and explain. They say they can send someone out today for $180 emergency fee plus cost of unclogging pipe. Which would total around $600. First don't feel like we should have to pay another emergency fee since problem wasn't solved first time and it's only been 2 weeks time. Also why did emergency fee change from $100 to $180 this time? Second how do you know it's a clogged pipe without even looking? And if that's the case since it's the same issue wouldn't it have been a clogged pipe the first time? I explained I had no problem paying for the service but not a second emergency fee. They wouldn't waive fee so I went with another company. Way to care about your customers who are stuck at home with no water, no bathrooms etc. oh and the guy I spoke to over the phone just sat and argued with me the entire time. read more

I called Wind River, Who had purchased the company I previously used, to get my septic tank pumped.The price was 406, Seemed high but figured that was the new prices.I was told I would receive a call before he showed up, Which I did not, And they did not muck out the Sludge on bottom of the tank. I called twice to try and resolve this And was told I would receive a call from the branch manager within 48 hours. The 2nd call after 3 days no one would pick up And I had to go onto the appointment line to talk to someone. They said they would escalate this to the branch manager and I would receive a call, Which did not happen. They have an excellent system of stonewalling you. I ended up calling a Small local guy Who did everything he said he was going to do, Including calling ahead. His price was less than half at 200, Up from his normal price of 185 because of the surge in diesel prices. I should have read the reviews before going with these people, Happy now. read more

They missed two confirmed appointment days and the hole in the yard collapsed from rain and I have to dig it out again. WARNING WARNING WARNING I booked a septic cleaning a few weeks back. At the time I booked it, I thought the quoted price was way too high compared to what I had paid in the past (almost $100 more). WRE apparently bought out Soucy's Septic Service in Salem, NH which I used to do business with. I had my doubts and decided to call WRE back.....all three numbers I have for them gets the same recorded response "the telephone numbers are not set up to take calls at this time." What kind of business works like this? I stupidly gave them my credit card info (even tho I had intended to pay on the day of service as usual.) I have notified my credit card company that I have attempted to reach this company to CANCEL my appointment and have been unable to. I'm sending a letter to all known addresses.........just want to tell folks to be cautious! read more

When I reached out to them regarding the charge they told me how bad it all was and that there guy had no choice, my point being no one called me. Don't ever use Wind River Environmental for your septic services again. They robbed me of money and took advantage of me. My septic system had drainage issues and I called Wind River Environmental in Marlborough, MA to come and review the problem. I had used Wind River every two years to come and do an assessment on my system so I called them to evaluate the drainage issue. They came and said that they could clean out the system to see if that would resolve the issue and that I would only know this after a few weeks. So I agreed to pay the $1,200 on this treatment. After they finished, one of the workers said to me that he did Title V inspections and if an inspection was to take place if I had needed one to sell the house, that the inspection would fail. I was told this AFTER the work was done. I said to the guy that he said we would wait a few weeks to see if the drainage issued cleared up and now he is telling me that the system would fail after the work was completed. Of course if he told me this before the cleaning, and being the expert that he claimed he was, he knew the system would fail after he dug up and looked at the distribution box, then I would not have agreed to a $1200 cleaning and review my next options. I was obviously taken advantage of. I called the office the day after and the manager said that he tells his workers to be honest with their customers about the problems they have with their system. I said that if he told me about the system fail before the cleaning, then I wouldn't have agreed to the cleaning-why would I? Of course weeks later the drainage issue was still there. I did have another septic service company come in to give me a second opinion and after digging up in the distribution area, they agreed that the system would be fail and that the Cleaning of the system should never have been done based on the failure. Just as I thought! Wind River just lost a customer for life and the next steps will be civil court. read more

I called this company for the first time because I couldn't remember the company that had service us in the past. my septic was backing up into my showers and toilets. I had them come out as an emergency which cost me an extra $105 dollars. They came the next day and pumped out my septic and then left. My husband went out to see how they were doing and they had already left. My husband tried to flush the toilet and it was still over flowing. He Went outside and the clean out pipe was still overflown and flooding. When I called them they just said I needed to get a plumber because I have a clog from oil. I then called and had a plumber come out the next day and after diagnosis the problem he was shocked to find out that the septic company didn't fix the problem for me. He said all they had to do was use there jet machine and pump the clean out pipe. So I paid a total of $469.77 and then had to pay a plumber $370. I will never use this company or recommend them to anyone. read more

Please take my advice and just don't bother with wind river. Please call someone else. While everyone on the phone seems very nice they are unfortunately completely incompetent. No one has any idea what is going on and just getting a title V done involved my getting additional paperwork from the town (other co's do this for you), a demand that I had to be home for the inspection (no one ever knocked on the door and just left), and 5 phone calls trying to figure out why I never received the documentation. This issue is still unresolved and while everyone on the phone claims they are willing to help me no one ever calls me back. An unbelievably unprofessional way to run a business. I would happily update my review if they actually could resolve this issue so I do not have to delay closing on selling my home. I wanted to provide a quick update that it turns out Wind River had "misplaced my paperwork" and while I did eventually get my title V the day before we were scheduled to close, there were multiple more phone calls and after finally finding one person willing to look into the problem the issue was easily resolved. I used wind river until the service guy dug up part of my yard and did such a messy job putting the chunks of turf back on. The spot looked horrible for weeks, like bald mud in places. And I am definitely not one of those perfect lawn guys but I thought this was really bad looking and disrespectful on his part. Wanting to hear what happened, I called the company for an explanation. They said they'd look into it and did not call back for weeks. They said they were still trying to get a hold of the service tech. I still haven't heard, almost a year later. These losers came to my shop to work on the grease trap, showed up 3 hours late, couldn't fix the problem. Just to look busy he takes out the strainer, puts it back in and leaves. I've been a Wind River customer for over 20 years. They recently came out on Oct 5th to perform a routine pumping of my septic system. Made the appointment online and selected the day I wanted them to come out through their online system. On that Saturday, I got a text notification from the driver saying that he was on the way to my home (very nice system). I usually like to be home when they pump the tank since you can really learn a lot from them. Richard reviewed the health of the system with me and made some great recommendations on how I could improve things. The yard and system were left clean when he left. I've had nothing but problems with this company. Every time they come to clean out my septic system they have forgotten where it is. The last time they came they found it was bone dry but the guy didn't tell me. I had to call and ask. So apparently my sewage has been pouring into the earth for God knows when. Today I took the day off from work so that a Wind River rep could inspect the apparent blockage. No one has shown up and now they tell me I'm not on their schedule. Find another company. Horrible company. Second year in a row that I have had problems with this company and it will be the last. I would give zero stars if I could. Very incompetent company. Last year the man who came to pump our system did nothing but complain and dropped our stone cover in the hole. Wouldn't take it out and replaced it with plastic which they broke this year. It took over a month to get a replacement cover. Tried to tell us our system needed to be replaced. We had to contact the board of health and get an inspection before they would give us a new cover. This was my first time having a septic tank pumped. I didn't know I was supposed to have it pumped out regularly. A lot of people I talked to recommended Wind River so I called them. The people on the phone were very polite. The man who came to pump it out was very friendly and polite. He explained how my system works gave me advice on what to do for future pump outs. I was a wind river customer for 20 years dating back to my first house. No issues until recently as they got larger and "ate up" smaller septic companies. I recently sold my house and had Wind River handle the Title V certification. What a nightmare!!! I had an issue with my D-Box...not their fault. I had them fix it so I could go ahead with the closing with a clean Title V. -They never showed up on the scheduled repair day and never called. -Knowing that, as a result, there was now a time crunch to get everything done for closing they were NOT accommodating in getting a rescheduled date quickly. -They PROMISED that I would have no problems getting Title V paperwork done given the rescheduled date they picked. -They then did not deliver proper paperwork to the Town. I had to call and speak with five people to get them moving. The last person PROMISED the paperwork would be there by end of day. It wasn't. -The paperwork did not get there until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving...too late for the inspector to sign in time for the closing. -THEN I find that they cut through an irrigation line. They never told me. At first they denied it until they saw the picture of the cut line sticking out of the ground and admitted it. -They have not paid for the damage claiming it was too close to the septic system (it wasn't). My advice is to use a small family owned septic company in your town who is reputable and knows the town inspector. read more

I called Wind River because I was having an issue with my septic alarm. The light was constantly flashing. I knew it was not an issue with the septic system itself, but with the alarm and possibly a float. First, they tried to sell me a pump-out I didn't need! When the first technician was sent out, he said he came specifically to pump the tanks. I said i didn't need a pump out, I had an issue with the alarm. The technician looked in the tank and confirmed the level was fine and didn't do the pump out (which I appreciated). I explained again to the company that i was just having an issue with the light flashing on my septic alarm and to send someone out to look at it. I was told at this time that a technician would arrive in approx. 1 week, and he would take a look at the issue and quote me a price for the work that needed to be done. The technician arrived as scheduled, and after quick review, he began cutting off the high level float and replacing it with a new one. It was never explained to me what the issue was or what the cost would be to fix it. The repair just began. I asked at one point what the issue was, and the technician said it was water in the float. He says this was a common issue and floats were replaced all the time. The work was finished in less than an hour. When the time came to pay, I was told it would cost $413.07. I thought this was exorbitant, but gave them my credit card. I did not receive a breakdown of the costs at that time, nor did I receive a receipt. I called the company about a half hour later to receive an itemized bill as I thought I may have been overcharged. The secretary stated I would get an email later in the afternoon, or the next day. A week later I get a bill in the mail for the amount due (even though they had my card on file). I was SHOCKED when I saw I was charged $250/hr labor (they were only at my house for 45 minutes, tops), and $135 for a part that I learned later cost around $25-$35! I called the company and explained that $250 an hour was totally unacceptable for the work that was completed, and he too thought the charge was high. He said he would talk to the technician as well as the manager and get back to me. I'm still waiting for the call back..... I feel I am being taken advantage of, and will never use this company again. I can only hope this will be resolved quickly and fairly. $250 an hour???? If they had been quoted this rate before the work began, I would have told them to leave! Give me a break! UPDATE: I continued to have issues with my septic alarm months after Wind River made the "repairs". I called another local company to see if they could fix it. A technician arrived same day and quickly found two issues. Water was getting into the electrical box inside the tube due to silicone being placed over the holes haphazardly, and the new float was wired incorrectly by the Wind River technician! It took this service man less than an hour to remedy the issue, and the bill was only $95. I have not had an issue since. This pretty much says it all. read more

They showed up the next day as they said they would and pumped out my system for the price they quoted. I hired Wind River to perform a full septic system video inspection prior to purchasing a home. The only recommendation noted was to replace to pipe going from the house to the tank since it was the older cast iron. No other concerns, notes, or recommendation were given. I scheduled the work a year later...the tech on site opened the distribution box and found it so deteriorated that he could stick his finger through the concrete! And they broke the top cover on the box. When I asked if that level of deterioration should have been found in the scope work, he said "yes! There is no way this could have happened in a year. So now I ask the Operations Supervisor, Jay Larkins, why this wasn't found and he has no answer. But schedules the work to be done the following Tuesday. I wait all day, no one shows up...no call or email either. I emailed Jay Larkins that evening, to which he responds at 4:30am on Wednesday..."we are short staffed right now, but will be there on Thursday to do the work." So I rearrange my work and meeting schedule again, and at 11:30am on Wednesday their truck shows up unannounced to do the work! I was in a very important work meeting at the time too. The techs thought Jay was going to call me. I have since called customer service twice and have been told both times that a supervisor will get back to me. No call in a week since I first reached out to them. And, to top it off the cost for two employees to replace the box which was already dug up and exposed and to cover it back up...a total of 1 hour on site with shovels cost almost $900! read more

We used Wind River for yearly septic tank pump out. The last time we used them, about 5 years ago, my husband noticed after several months, when he checked the filter, that they hadn't seated the filter back properly. This causes stress on the leach field, and opens it up to being damaged and having a shorter life span, because the sewage goes out directly to the leach field, without be filtered. We decided at that point to not use them anymore. read more

We used Wind River and they were horrible to deal with. Really all they knew how to do was charge us, and never actually pumped out our system. Long story but the technician came out to our home and could not find the septic system and had us have an additional service to find the tank with a camera. After spending $427.50 they still did not find the tank to pump out. I have been trying for a week to speak with a manager and no one will call me back. Would suggest not to use them....I can't even rate them since they did not accomplish what we need to get done. I give them ZERO stars. Very big disappointment. Buyer beware....... read more

Miserable service. The phone staff is ignorant about septic systems. I expected the worst, so I paced out the location of the standing water of my failing drainage field. I told them the exact location. An incompetent tech came to pump the tank and left a sarcastic message on my answering machine about the water I had mentioned that he couldn't find. The fact is he didn't look. 30 feet from the tank he pumped, exactly were I said it was, was a 15 foot diameter patch of ridiculously green unmowed grass, standing 8 inches higher than the surrounding grass. After 4 more calls to the company they couldn't decide what should be done next, so I found another company. They noticed the patch from the street. Final bill (which they charged to our cc)was 50% higher than their estimate and they will not return calls to discuss. They left a pile of ashphalt and said the firm we will hire to patch the driveway will recycle and be happy to take it. Not true! had to pay paver extra and spoke with other pavers and none of them would take it for free. Wind River refused to answer calls for this as well. Original schedule was put off six weeks because they claimed they did not have signed agreement. This was emailed to them a day after receiving and it was opened. I guess we should have fired them right at that point! read more

My septic system is only 13 years old, and after having the same company pump it for the last 8 years, I find out they have sold out to Wind River Environmental, so I have #WindRiverEnvironmental come out to do my regular pump. Five months after the system was pumped out and, according to the tech, "back washed 4 times to remove all of the solids", I'm smelling septic fumes in my basement. Did I mention I'm a Realtor? So, I have my Title V inspector come out to check out the system. He shows me that my tank is full of way more than 5 months worth of solids, and the filter looks like it has not been cleaned in over a year. He cleans my filter and the smell dissapears, but the tank still needs to be cleaned out. I call Wind River Environmental to let them know what has happened and I am told I will be called by the Regional Manager. He does call, but unfortunately, I miss the call. I have called him back 4 times now over the past week with no response. Interestingly, the tech that "pumped" my system was annoyed when I wouldn't purchase additional chemicals for my tank. I am well-versed in how septic systems work and it is a complete waste of money to add any type of bacteria/enzymes to the tank, unless you never ever use any bleach or antibacterial soaps in your household. I will never use them again, and I will be sharing this story with all of the agents in my company which employs over 250 agents that work Boston's South Shore, and every single client I come in contact with. We've been using Wind River since purchasing our home 18 years ago. Never a problem until this year, the driver backs over our newly laid brick walk and landscaped grassy area. The driver was within a foot of my antique home's front porch and only 5 ft from staying in the driveway. When I called the first time he tried to blame my wife. Like others, I was promised the manager would call and come inspect the site. He called and left a message. I've called back numerous times about the damage to my property and have not received a call back. Still trying......Find a local company that cares! read more

I used wind river for a pump alarm. They completely fell flat. I requested help and they required me to pump the tank, fine, once they came out and did the work the alarm was still sounding and the "tech" left a report with just some really poor handwriting on it and nothing explaining what was wrong or whats next. Their report document has this long list of check boxes and information the person is meant to fill out, none of this was done. I called them to see what was up, the said they would get back to me. The next day they follow up and said that they have been back to my property while I'm at work, pumped more and its going to cost $100 on top of what they already charged me. They did this without my permission and its now about $400 for a simple pump. At this point I'm a bit upset, on top of it they say my pump needs repair and for them to do that they will charge $159 for the visit. Not a chance. I asked them to save face and at least give me an appraisal for no cost; if it seems reasonable, I told them, I would hire them for the job and pay the visit fee. Nope, they would not do it. They will never step foot on my property again. I knew they would gouge me on the pump repair by the way they just charged me for a second unknowing visit. Never again... read more

I am bewildered by the unfavorable reviews below. Been using Wind River for more than ten years and not only has there never been a problem, they sent a tech out to my house at Sunday night on a holiday weekend to fix a problem (a tank issue, nothing they caused). The tech worked for hours to fix it, including hanging upside down in a muddy hole he dug outside (it was raining) in order to get at the problem. Weird to heap praise on a septic company, but good service must be lauded. read more

I was never informed such charge would be applied for a estimate. I had 3 other contractors on-site to quote same service without any hidden fees to be discovered months later. read more

Also my mulch was all over my pavement that they clearly walked all over , and my stones that surround my mailbox was cracked ( backing into the driveway or leaving my driveway) They don't have many good reviews and I see why now. We have been using Wind River now for about 6 or 7 years and have been very pleased with their service and the courtesy of their drivers. They have given very good advice on care and information of our septic system and using household products to keep septic system healthy. Wind River caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to our home which doesn't account for all of the aggravation and the displacement they've caused to our family. The wind River technician came out to our home for a routine annual septic pumping. We have a septic filter installed in our outer tee pipe leading to our leaching field which prevents solids from entering the leach field. This was installed two years ago at the recommendation of Wind River and had been working fine. Fast forward to our recent septic pumping service about two weeks ago, after the technician pumped our septic he installed the filter into the inner T pipe which is the drain from our home into the septic tank. This is the wrong location. He then inaccurately wrote up a report and submitted it (that we have baffles in our system which is wrong we have a tee pipe system) and he left, not before damaging our septic tank cover. Within a week of installing the filter in the wrong inner tee pipe, the entire septic line was clogged and our house was flooded with sewage. This has been an incredible headache and cost us tens of thousands of dollars to repair. I've contacted Wind River several times (at least seven) to discuss this issue and each time I am told that someone will call me back immediately. No one has ever called me back. Thank goodness for insurance who will subrogate and sue wind river over my behalf. Stay away from wind River. read more

Everyone I interacted with--from the front office, to the Title V inspectors, to the gentlemen who actually pumped my system (one of which saved me big money, courtesy of his honesty and good recommendation)--were helpful beyond compare.
