Charlie responded quickly, was flexible with timing, reasonably priced, and identified and fixed the issue promptly.

Used them for a small job at home fixing a garden hose. They worked hard and got it done. Very happy. Great value for the money.

Martin was recommended to me by Yelp's request a quote function. He was one of the few plumbers on the recommended who was willing to give me an estimate without having to send someone over first. The price was fair and Martin was responsive in scheduling a time the same day I contacted him. The plumber on Martin's team that I worked with was knowledgable, professional, and worked quickly to replace the fill valve within 30 minutes. We weren't 100% sure if that would fix the problem since this appeared to be a slow leak so they were willing to hold off invoicing me and ordering additional parts just in case the fill valve wasn't the issue. Luckily replacing the fill valve did the trick but I appreciated the gesture anyways. Still waiting to figure out how their payment works since I received an online invoice with an option to pay online. Anyways they did a great job and I would recommend them for toilet repair.

But Martin got in there and sopped up ALL the water and was able to determine that it wasn't the heater but my HVAC. He was an extremely kind and patient gentleman. He made a call and procured the proper service gentleman for me. He stayed with the HVAC guy until the problem was resolved. In addition I realized that I would be actually needing a NEW water heater in a very short time. So I made arrangements with Mr. McManus to have that done. I can't adequately express how impressed I was with both the quality of service and the timeliness of his response. I would bestow my most unabashed praise on Mr. McManus and both his professionalism and attention to both my needs and requirements and what was needed to get the job done. 5 STARS

Taking a few stars off because I'm very disappointed with how this situation was handled…read more Cullen Plumbing installed a faucet for me that had been purchased about 4-5 months earlier. The workers who did the installation were very nice and professional, and I paid $175 for the installation. About a month or so later, the plastic sprayer part began sticking and would stay on. The hose itself was fine. One day I noticed a Cullen Plumbing van at my condo complex and saw that they were already doing work in my building. I left a message explaining the problem and said that if they happened to have time to look at it while they were already there, that would be great, but that it was not an emergency and they could come whenever it was convenient. Marc stopped by my unit that same day and agreed that the plastic sprayer part was not working properly. He asked whether Cullen had purchased the faucet or whether I had. I honestly could not remember at the time because I had been hospitalized with sepsis in December, which had significantly affected my memory, among other things. Marc replaced only the plastic sprayer part. There was no hose replacement, and the part took just a few minutes to swap out. I did not receive a bill at the time. A few months later, while preparing to sell my condo, I was going through my Home Depot account and discovered that I had, in fact, purchased the faucet myself. I wanted to do the right thing, so I contacted Marc and let him know that I had purchased it and told him he should send me a bill for replacing the sprayer part. Imagine my surprise when I received an invoice for $190 -- more than I had originally paid for the entire faucet installation -- for replacing a simple plastic sprayer part that took only minutes, especially since Cullen was already working in my building that day. I had no problem paying a fair and reasonable amount for the part and Marc's time. In fact, I was the one who reached out months later to make sure I paid for it. But $190 for this particular repair feels excessive and, unfortunately, like a quick money grab after I tried to do the honest thing. I'm disappointed because my original experience with the workers was positive. Cullen Plumbing also does a lot of work at the new community I've moved to, but fortunately I've since received a referral to another plumber whom I'll be using in the future.

JN Service - The crew installing my new water heater

Going out of our way to work locally, we hired JN Service HVAC and Plumbing to inspect and repair an air conditioning unit. The bill for various repairs was about $730. We get that--these things are expensive. But two or three days later, and without anyone else having been in the house (we are traveling), we learned from someone who came in to water our plants that the air conditioning in that unit still was not working AND that the back door had been left wide open, resulting in a massive infestation of ants. The technician even admitted that he left that door open, but said only "my bad." As for the air conditioning unit, upon return to inspect it he said the capacitor had died since his previous visit. Yes, we are to believe that this happened within a few days of an allegedly thorough inspection. We got nowhere with suggestions that it seems much more likely that the technician never checked the capacitor at all, or else that he did and it ran briefly on residual charge. Hoping to resolve this without rancor, we offered to pay for the capacitor itself, but not another service visit. The boss is dug in against that, and no longer responds to messages. We have given up wrangling over this, but did tell the boss that we feel obliged to warn people. This is all very regrettable. We started out wanting to hire and then recommend a local company. Really can't do that in this case.

Overpriced and incompetent…read more This company has worked on my house 5+ times over the last month, amassing to nearly $10k, and each time they come, a new problem arises, each problem costing more. Most recently, they came to repair a leaking pipe, and left the same day after subsequently cutting/breaking multiple pipes in my basement, leaving our entire home without water. They even assured me before leaving that I would at least have cold water, then were surprised when I showed them they left me without any water at all. They came back only with a quote for whole home repiping, and not even a quote for just fixing the local spot of damage. I have now had three separate plumbing companies inspect and evaluate the situation after this, and all of them are in agreement: 1. JN Service made poor technical decisions in trying to fix the pipes, in addition to the state they left the piping, and separately in the way they installed my water heater. 2. It's concerning that JN Service didn't even provide a quote for fixing the local issue, and only provided a quote for a full-home repiping. The interpretations are ranging from bad-practice, to predatory. 3. The whole-repiping quote from JN Services was severely overpriced, and it was additionally concerning given that the initial quote had no information/line items besides just listing the rooms in my house that would be involved in the repiping. It wasn't until I pressed JN Service, that they gave a quote with more extensive information. All in all, I will never work with this company again. I recommend others never work with them. There are other companies that provide better competency at better prices.

It is absolutely true that you get what you pay for and I am always very happy with his work and I have never had to have him come back to repair a job he did (which I have had to do with other plumbers in the area!) - although once I did have him repair a job another plumber did when I made the mistake of hiring someone just because he quoted me a cheaper price. Whatever the situation is, whether it's a new job, or one he's aware I had initially hired someone else to do, he has always been professional and pleasant. Really, I will never use another plumber; no one else compares. I have not one complaint for the years worth of work he has done for me and honestly I could rave on and on. The owner can seem a little gruff at first, but he (the owner, Steve) is genuinely a really great guy and is more than willing to in-depth explain every detail of what he does, so at the end of the day, you know you both have someone extremely knowledgable about what he is doing and who is willing to explain each step (and you know exactly what you're paying for!). I would and have recommended this plumbing service to anyone who's looking for a great plumber!!

All responded fairly quick (within an hour) and I had given enough information and pictures so they all knew exactly what was needed. I received quotes all the way up to 175/hour plus parts to 225 parts included. Others even wanted to come by and charge me to look at the job to quote me (which they said the fee would be waived if I used them for the job after..but seriously?). Mark responded to call him and leave him a voicemail explaining I had contacted him via a message and he would call me back. He called back within 10 minutes of me leaving the message and spoke to me on the phone. He thanked me for the detailed pictures and asked if I was handy at all as this was a very simple job and he didnt want me to pay a large sum for such a simple job. He said he would come if I still wanted him to but explained everything I would have to do and where to go get the parts. He even said if I get stuck I can call him to come over. The part was cheap around 20 dollars and the work involved seems super simple (I watched some videos on youtube on how to do this). I havent fixed it yet as I am waiting for the part but i am confident now thanks to his information and knowing I can call him if I need him to come for the job. Its hard to find good contractors for work such as this and I am keeping his number for any future jobs.

He is generally very helpful with knowledge and good with talking through planned permit work or a good story to boot. He just recently installed the final touch for a whole home portable backup generator at my home, a new 3/4in gas line basement run to supply the generator (or maybe a deck grill someday), the inspector was very accomodating and approved the work quickly! He has also previously helped with regular maintenance like water heater anode rod replacement and a few gate to ball valve replacements for leaky or seized water valves. See photos below of the gas line connection and whole home portable backup generator setup. Apparently it's "unusual" here in MA to have whole home portable backup power (Costco bargain!), everyone is told a $15k concrete slab generator is the minimum, at least, that is what Castle Electric said to me!
