Lack of professionalism. Can't recommend a person who is unwilling to finish a job. Left things in the middle of a renovation.

But Martin got in there and sopped up ALL the water and was able to determine that it wasn't the heater but my HVAC. He was an extremely kind and patient gentleman. He made a call and procured the proper service gentleman for me. He stayed with the HVAC guy until the problem was resolved. In addition I realized that I would be actually needing a NEW water heater in a very short time. So I made arrangements with Mr. McManus to have that done. I can't adequately express how impressed I was with both the quality of service and the timeliness of his response. I would bestow my most unabashed praise on Mr. McManus and both his professionalism and attention to both my needs and requirements and what was needed to get the job done. 5 STARS

Martin was recommended to me by Yelp's request a quote function. He was one of the few plumbers on the recommended who was willing to give me an estimate without having to send someone over first. The price was fair and Martin was responsive in scheduling a time the same day I contacted him. The plumber on Martin's team that I worked with was knowledgable, professional, and worked quickly to replace the fill valve within 30 minutes. We weren't 100% sure if that would fix the problem since this appeared to be a slow leak so they were willing to hold off invoicing me and ordering additional parts just in case the fill valve wasn't the issue. Luckily replacing the fill valve did the trick but I appreciated the gesture anyways. Still waiting to figure out how their payment works since I received an online invoice with an option to pay online. Anyways they did a great job and I would recommend them for toilet repair.

JN Service HVAC & Plumbing - After

Overpriced and incompetent…read more This company has worked on my house 5+ times over the last month, amassing to nearly $10k, and each time they come, a new problem arises, each problem costing more. Most recently, they came to repair a leaking pipe, and left the same day after subsequently cutting/breaking multiple pipes in my basement, leaving our entire home without water. They even assured me before leaving that I would at least have cold water, then were surprised when I showed them they left me without any water at all. They came back only with a quote for whole home repiping, and not even a quote for just fixing the local spot of damage. I have now had three separate plumbing companies inspect and evaluate the situation after this, and all of them are in agreement: 1. JN Service made poor technical decisions in trying to fix the pipes, in addition to the state they left the piping, and separately in the way they installed my water heater. 2. It's concerning that JN Service didn't even provide a quote for fixing the local issue, and only provided a quote for a full-home repiping. The interpretations are ranging from bad-practice, to predatory. 3. The whole-repiping quote from JN Services was severely overpriced, and it was additionally concerning given that the initial quote had no information/line items besides just listing the rooms in my house that would be involved in the repiping. It wasn't until I pressed JN Service, that they gave a quote with more extensive information. All in all, I will never work with this company again. I recommend others never work with them. There are other companies that provide better competency at better prices.

Called on this company to do tune-ups on my two AC systems. At the time they came, the upstairs AC…read morewasn't blowing cold. The tech told me i need a new compressor fan, it was hot out, and our bedrooms are upstairs. I paid the $1500. They came and replaced the fan motor and left. I still wasn't getting any cooling. I also noticed that the fan outside was working intermittently. This was due to a "Delay" on my Nest thermostat, this is typically caused when something in the system isn't working correctly. I looked at the fan closely and noticed a wire was touch the blade. Called up JN and they came out and fixed the wire. My cooling issue isn't resolved so I call again. They send two people this time. They spent sometime in the attic looking at the unit, and then tell me that my unit is undersized. They said I need a 3-Ton unit and my unit is only 1.5 Tons. They gave me a quote. $8,000 for a new indoor and outdoor unit. I didn't want to call BS to their face, so I played dumb and said I'd get back to them. (I recently purchased the house and the inspector listed the sizes of the units in the report, and I confirmed by the model numbers on the units) I called another company they came and determined two things: I have a small leak, and the compressor is on its way out. They fixed the leak, and replaced the compressor. My system works as good as new. Leaving 1 star because I called Junior, and he refunded $150 of the $1900 I spent on JN services. Junior appears to be a nice guy on the phone, but I think the techs need some more training to troubleshoot systems instead of jumping to a conclusion saying the fan isn't working. AND the guy who tried to sell me the same sized unit I already had by saying it was half the size it was, should probably not be allowed to be a salesman. That's straight up lying and illegal.

It is absolutely true that you get what you pay for and I am always very happy with his work and I have never had to have him come back to repair a job he did (which I have had to do with other plumbers in the area!) - although once I did have him repair a job another plumber did when I made the mistake of hiring someone just because he quoted me a cheaper price. Whatever the situation is, whether it's a new job, or one he's aware I had initially hired someone else to do, he has always been professional and pleasant. Really, I will never use another plumber; no one else compares. I have not one complaint for the years worth of work he has done for me and honestly I could rave on and on. The owner can seem a little gruff at first, but he (the owner, Steve) is genuinely a really great guy and is more than willing to in-depth explain every detail of what he does, so at the end of the day, you know you both have someone extremely knowledgable about what he is doing and who is willing to explain each step (and you know exactly what you're paying for!). I would and have recommended this plumbing service to anyone who's looking for a great plumber!!

Price was reasonable for the scope and system specs, and James was extremely responsive and patient throughout the whole process. We also really appreciate James's help coordinating with MassSave (including some truly terrible inspections), ultimately enabling us to claim our full rebate. After a 3-yr search and MANY bids for a new HVAC, we settled on James Wu, who installed our system…read morelast month and proved the research paid off. Below are things I wanted to know before choosing a contractor; maybe it will be helpful for you. Our situation: 100+ yr old home with current boiler in basement. We recently insulated our walk-up attic - that would both freeze and melt items stored there - with closed-cell spray foam (more research there), added drywall and will use it for storage. This is where the air handler and ERV (for ventilation) went. Our upstairs is now ducted, with one vent running through a closet on the 2nd floor to 1st floor. We also added a Mitsibishi floor mount unit and a ceiling cassette on 1st floor. So, we had a VARIETY of equipment installed, requiring a contractor experienced in not only ducting, but mini-split installs with both a ceiling cassette and floor mount unit. We did not want the large wall mount mini split units. Our walls/ceilings are PLASTER, (metal wire mesh and cement-based): cutting them is a JOB. And, we wanted the floor mount unit RECESSED. COST - James was in-line with our other bids, which came in between 27k and 39k, largely depending on equipment recommended, with ceiling cassettes costing more. Many contractors simply would not install them, and wanted to run ducts in the corners of all upstairs rooms to first floor, which to us was a last resort. COMMUNICATION - James is very responsive to texts, emails, and even more importantly, he is a fantastic communicator. He is very calm, not pushy, explains things in an easy-to-understand way that clearly shows he knows his business. I actually told my husband after he left for the first time, "I think we may have found our guy" just based on his personality and knowledge. He's likeable, which isn't a requirement, but definitely helps. EXPERTISE - This is what truly sets James apart. Our needs were fairly complex, requiring interior ducting, 2 outside units with exterior line sets, and recessed ceiling units, but also RECESSING the inside floor unit into an interior wall. We've overseen several renovation projects recently and could tell these guys knew what they were doing. Also, they were perfectionists, and paid attention to details you don't often find with contractors. DEPENDABILITY - Not a single missed appt. Showed up on time with clear communication. The job took a week. He also helped with Masssave paperwork. They cleaned up after themselves each day, which we appreciated. KNOWLEDGE - Extremely versed in Mitsibishi equipment. He's a Diamond Contractor, which extends our warranty, but we'd have chosen him regardless. Every question I had about these units (cassette and floor unit operation, air handler, ERV, outdoor units, thermostats...) he knew the answer to. When I researched anything specific online, from multiple and trusted sources, I found the info he'd given me to be correct. I trust his knowledge and I don't automatically do that. One example: our ceiling cassette has an internal thermostat and it's off by several degrees regularly. I researched it and found we likely need an external thermostat separate from the unit to measure the room's temp. I texted James a photo showing the inaccurate reading and his immediate reply, "you need an external thermostat. I'll install one." That's what I'm talking about. INTEGRITY - Example: After the permit inspector left, James explained his philosophy on inspections. Each city apparently has different requirements. He learned several years ago how strict one particular city was, requiring a blower test to determine air tightness and the passing score was 4% or less. He got 4.1% and city wouldn't pass it. This required a lot more time/energy to go through everything and another test and more $$. So, now James says to his guys, "We install to the strictest inspection every time, regardless of the specific city's requirements, so we don't ever have to redo anything." In our case, the city didn't need a blower test but if they did, I feel confident we would have passed! I don't often take time to write reviews, esp this lengthly, but I felt it was warranted here. Finding an HVAC contractor is HARD; it's time-consuming and complicated. And a lot of money. Three years of research finally led us to James and now, looking back, it was worth the wait and headaches in research. I would highly recommend anyone in the market for a new HVAC, especially if it involves Mitsibishi and especially ESPECIALLY if it involves recessing any equipment like ceiling cassettes or wall units, to consider James Wu. He and his team are uniquely skilled in their work.
