I'm so sad this Dana Point staple is permanently closing after a 54-year run, having opened in 1972. I came on September 14, 2026, before they close forever. The service is always great. The hostess and wait staff are always friendly and welcoming, with a smile on their face. Now let's talk about the delicious food. Coconut Shrimp: Coconut shrimp was my go-to every time I came here. The shrimp is always cooked right, never undercooked or overcooked. The crispy, flaky coconut coating was delicious, and paired with their dipping sauce, it made a great flavor combination. Fish & Chips: Crispy, pub-style classic served with fries. The batter was good. It was not greasy at all. The tartar sauce was very good. It also comes with coleslaw and crispy French fries. Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich: The chicken was perfectly cooked. It was generously marinated with savory teriyaki sauce. Juicy pineapple topped the chicken. It is served with rice and asparagus. Lastly, for a drink, I had to try their famous Mai Tai. It is a Wind and Sea staple, having sold over 2.5 million drinks over its 54-year run. I will truly miss Wind and Sea. read more

Sadly this place is closing down this fall. I reccommed you coming for a last visit before they do. Wind & Sea is my favorite spot to hang out while in Dana Point. They have strong good drinks, great food at good pricing, staff is wonderful, and the vibe is right. I last came here with about 7 other people. We ended up drinking and hanging out from the morning until about dinner time. They are known for their mai tais but all their drinks are good. For food they have lots of options but I normally go for their popular fish & chips or the cheeseburger with criss cross fries. They also have happy hour Monday-Friday 4-7pm. We got their calamari and the tibets off that menu. But honestly most their food is good. I do want to come back one last time and get their clam chowder in a bread bowl. The staff is super nice and friendly. If you come during a busy time there is a crazy line to get in. The restaurant looks over the marina so its really nice out in their patio. But inside is also nice with their large windows. They also sell merch too for affordable pricing. Parking is easy since theres a lot with up to 4 hours free and a lot in front but sometimes it gets full. read more

On July 4th, during our family trip to Dana Point, we went on a two-hour dolphin-watching cruise and then had a family lunch together. For lunch, my dad ordered the Mahi Mahi, and my mom got the Clam Chowder Bowl and Sliders. I ordered a cup of Clam Chowder. I was so severely seasick that I could barely eat anything, but since I absolutely love clam chowder--and figured I'd be starving later if I skipped lunch entirely--I decided to just have a little bit of soup. One of my brothers had the Ceviche, and my other brother got the Smoked Salmon. The food here was absolutely delicious, the staff and servers were incredibly friendly, and the restaurant had a great atmosphere, so we were completely satisfied. The ocean view was also amazing. At first, we sat at an outdoor table, but later we asked to be moved inside. Even at the indoor table, we were seated by the ocean view, so we could still fully enjoy the scenery outside, which was wonderful. It was also great being able to watch the World Cup soccer match on TV while having lunch. This restaurant holds a lot of memories close to our heart. Our mom turned 80 on May 1st and sadly she was in a recovery rehab during her birthday but we promised her we would take her to her favorite restaurant once she was released and better. Turns out on June 21st our Mom passed away suddenly after being home for a short time and she caught pneumonia from the rehab. After 6 week our family with the 3 little great grandkids got to go eat dinner there with a little urn in my purse so moms ashes were with all of us for what is all of our last meal together! It was beautiful and the waitress was nice and the food was even better , fish and chips doesn't disappoint but the price is a bit high to me .. The nachos plate my niece ordered was loaded it looked ok , the calamari she said was delicious. I have never seen flat calamari before I was like what ?? She said it's her favorite. So sad it's going away - to Wind and Sea we will miss you , your environment, your happy hour specials , your outdoor patio memories , bringing my late Sadie so we could celebrate both mine and her birthday together ( my soul dog ) . I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken, and the chicken itself was moist and flavorful, although slightly salty for my taste. The outdoor seating was definitely the highlight though, with really nice views of the water and a relaxing atmosphere. There's a decent amount of parking near the restaurant, although many of the spots seem mainly intended for those with boats. There is also a larger parking structure about a 5-minute walk away with plenty of parking available. Since I was a little crunched for time, I didn't get the chance to explore the surrounding shops, but I'm hoping to do that next time I'm in the area. read more

This restaurant never fails. The service is always so good and it's packed almost every single time we go. Reservations are definitely in encouraged. They have a wonderful patio fairy dog friendly. I love their wine menu. We decided to have their Hawaiian nachos that just knocked our socks off. It was so good. We're not sure how much longer they're gonna be in town, but I would recommend heading down to Windon see while they're still here. They've got tons of construction going on. We opted to sit out on the patio where we were able to watch the boats and kayakers sail by. This place always seems to be busy so we were excited to try it out. I hope all these people (Employees) especially management can't find jobs elsewhere. The attitude in here is like something I've never seen. You stand at the bar for what seems like an eternity, then a table comes available, suddenly there's a wait. In the 40+ years I've been coming here, never has there been a wait for getting a table in the bar. Then, half the restaurant is empty but it's a 2 hour wait. I love it. Not only that but $20 for a drink is a little steep. I'm so tired of all the Dana Point Harbor "Hype" they want to talk about everything except what things are gonna cost when it's all done, especially the rent. We were seated immediately at a window table on the inside part of the restaurant. Our server was - well- great and odd at the same time. He was very efficient and we never, ever. Ran out of beverages so we were well taken care of. The odd part was his body language. We didn't mind but he was doing our meal his way. We got off a whale watching tour and walked into this place for some lunch. We sat waterfront on the patio. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken sandwich which was not bad. It had a nice flavor to it. I could take or leave the fries. One of our group had the fish and chips and did not enjoy it. Another had a burger and fries and said it was decent. This place looks like it's been here a long time. Get it while you can. The last scheduled day they will be open September 15, then the demolition ball. The location is unparalleled in the harbor. They have a dog-friendly patio that is a great place to relax. Happy hour greats start with a Mai Tai, poke and calamari strips. They feature a lot of seafood in a variety or preparations. But very well prepared and presented. The Wind and Sea is an old favorite of mine and I have dined here dozens of times in the past 50 years or so. I will miss it. My husband and I decided to go out for dinner on New Year's Day. Since there were limited options we decided on Wind and Sea. It's been at least 10 years since we have dined at this restaurant and with the upcoming harbor renovations they will be closing in 2026. The inside is still decent looking and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. I ordered the Ahi Sandwich, and on the menu it states the Ahi is seared served under cooked. When my sandwich arrived I noticed the Ahi was well done. I asked the waitress about it and she said that's how they serve it. She did say that she could ask the kitchen to remake it, and declined. The sandwich and fries lacked any flavor. My husband had ordered a cheeseburger and it was more bun than meat. My husband did order the Mud Pie for dessert, which he loved. The food was mediocre at best! Expected better and was disappointed throughout! We ordered the clam chowder to start, it was full of chunks of potatoes with some clams, not very tasty. I had the filet medallions i ordered medium rare towards more on the medium side, when i cut into the meat, the blood went all into my bland mashed potatoes which was served with maybe 5 asparagus which were also very bland but thats ok. Our family and another visited Wind & Sea Restaurant last Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, during the Dana Point Boat Parade, and it was a really fun evening. It can be very busy during the parade, so we arrived about an hour and a half early. Parking was manageable at that time--as long as you're willing to walk a bit from the new parking structure. Wind & Sea is first come, first served, so we took turns holding our spot in line while the kids walked around the harbor checking out the lights, which made the wait much easier. We opted for an outside table on the patio. It was cold, but the heaters kept it comfortable. Our timing couldn't have been better--we were seated just before the boat parade started. The view of the parade from anywhere inside or outside Wind & Sea is fantastic. With our two kids, we stuck to our usual and ordered the Kids' Chicken Tenders meals. We ordered one with fruit (usually watermelon) and the other with fries, and they split it. Both our 9- and 10-year-old were still hungry afterward, so they ordered the Kids' Ice Cream Sundae--a small scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce or hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry. They loved it. I ordered one as well with hot fudge. The fudge wasn't very hot, but we all enjoyed it. FYI: I noticed later on the bill that the hot fudge is an extra charge over the regular chocolate sauce. My wife and I shared the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, which was nicely prepared, though it could have used a bit more cocktail sauce. We also ordered the Nachos Grande for the table--one of our go-to items here and consistently excellent. FYI: you can order it "dip style" as well for something a little different. The Bread Service featured good sourdough, but the butter portion was small. The kids finished it quickly, so we ordered a second basket and were charged for it--not a deal breaker, just something to note. We also split a cup of the New England Clam Chowder, while our friends had it in a bread bowl. The chowder here is excellent and highly recommended. Our friends had a great experience as well. My buddy ordered the Fish & Chips and loved it--the portion was huge and more than he could finish, which led to some humorous attempts to pass some off to his wife. His wife ordered Oysters on the Half Shell with Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and was very happy. Their 4-year-old daughter had the Kids' Cheeseburger with fries and was perfectly happy. I ordered a specialty hot cocoa with Baileys but could barely taste the Baileys. Our friends also ordered the cheesecake and enjoyed it. Calamari strip (4/5): Got this as an appetizer. It was breaded well and the squid was very tender and meaty. Although I prefer the non-strip version because it's easier to share, I really liked how much meat I was getting with this. Chowder (5/5): Very lovely and comforting. Plenty of seafood inside as well. Mahi-mahi macadamia (5/5): This was definitely the more unique dish on the menu. The macadamia provided some sweetness and crunch texture to the fish. Wow! What a fun way to celebrate my mama's birthday! We ordered the Ono entree, and not only was it tasty, but we like to share so they split it in the kitchen, you pay extra but you get 2 full sides per person! It was yummy and filling! The lady helping us, I believe her name was Meghan, was such a sweetheart and helped make the day fun for my mom and myself!
