It was Sunday afternoon, and I had some time to kill before my lunch plans and really needed a pedicure. I typically don't like going anywhere because decent service is so hard to find. One of my spots was closed on Sundays (which I didn't know) I was at Santana row and since kitchen nail bar had no openings, I walked over to Winchester nails. I was able to get seated right away which was really nice since I was on a time crunch. I was seated in a massage chair (yay!) and had a nice relaxing pedicure. I'm usually really nervous when they cut my cuticles out of fear of being cut but didn't have that problem here. Very happy I was able to get in and out without any worries. I was recommended here from a friend that has been coming for months. I originally went in to get a full acrylic set. After talking with Tu, she recommended I try Gel X. She broke down the price difference for me and took the time to explain the difference between the two. Tu took her time to soak and drill my old acrylics off (I've never had a tech not just rip them off with a tip). Great service and she was constantly asking if everything was okay. The manicurists here are so kind and warm. I loved chatting with them and it felt like family. I'm just a little disappointed with the actual nail service. I asked for cuticle cleaning (extra $10) and was cut multiple times. Around 4 of my cuticles were cut way too deep and it hurt. Even though that happened, the manicurist was so nice that I tipped her well. I came home and realized my other hand had no top coat gel at all. I called her back and she was happy to redo it but I don't think I'd come back after all that hassle. Nice people but service could be better. read more

Came here for a fil. Tu helped me. I can back since the price was okay and affordable. I asked for a color change and Tu said she wasn't able to do a color change that it needed to be the same color, so I asked for them to be taken off and she insisted on just repairing my one nail that broke and doing a fill on all of them but when I asked for a color change she said she was not able to do it. I'm not sure why. She insisted on it being the same color as before ultimately I just got them taken off. It just felt like she wanted to charge more. Tu (the owner) is the best! I come to San Jose about once a month for work and a couple visits ago, I found Winchester Nails near where I was staying when I had some time to kill. I usually do my own gel x full set and then I'll visit a salon to get a gel pedicure. After getting an acrylic full set at Winchester Nails last month to switch it up, I decided I would try to teach myself to do my own acrylic nails at home. I tried for the first time the night before my flight to San Jose last week. It wasn't the best job but it honestly I think I did okayyyy (it is sooooo much harder than it seems). Still, it wasn't what I wanted to walk around with for 2-3 weeks. So obviously when I got to San Jose, I called over to Winchester Nails and made an appt. Tu was so sweet. I told her I did them myself and she was so nice about it lol. She was gentle when removing my first-time attempt and gave me a lot of tips along the way and encouraged me not to give up. She's been doing nails for a longggggg time and laid these acrylic nails down in no time to perfection. She created the shape so flawlessly, she barely had to file them down. Love coming here when I'm in town. Everyone is really nice and they really talk and try to connect with you, which is hugely underrated as a factor of quality customer service. BLESS TINA!!! This was my first time getting acrylic nails. I was nervous since I had not been at the place before and wanted a complicated design. Tina was upfront with her skills, which I appreciate since some nail artists say they can do things that they cannot. Tina really took her time on my nails. I never had to tell her about any mistake, because she would see it before me, immediately erased it, and would redo it. She wanted it to be perfect for me. She took no shortcuts. I've gotten my nails done here about 3 times and each time my experience was a little different but overall good. The ladies are very sweet and friendly. I didn't catch the names of every nail tech I've gotten but I know Jade and Tu were both very skilled in their work. It's a no-frills salon but they do offer a lot of the trendy things like cat eye, jelly nails, gel-x, etc. On one occasion, I showed the owner Tu a photo of a design I wanted and made sure to ask beforehand if they were able to do it (if not then I'd choose a different design). She assured me that the nail tech doing my nails would be able to do it. Although it did turn out nice, I could tell that the nail tech was struggling a bit to figure out how to do it and it ended up taking over 2.5 hours. She was very sweet and apologetic about how long it took though. One downside is that I do notice whenever I go here the retention isn't as great and some of my nails end up lifting after a couple of weeks. Granted I do wait pretty long in between manicures (4-5 weeks) but I've definitely had it last that long with no issues from other salons. They also charge for gel removal and cuticle work, which I didn't realize until I asked for a price breakdown one time. I would have assumed that would be part of a whole manicure service, but every salon is different in their pricing so it's understandable. Overall, you can definitely get a good mani pedi here the ladies are very nice! read more
