Like Guy Fieri always says, this place is definitely "in the top three" for fried chicken. What elevated my experience was the sides and the dessert. I had mashed potatoes, gravy and mac salad. For dessert, I had the ube cake. If you can't make it to Jollibee's in Seattle, this will be the next best option for filipino style fried chicken and pasta. finally got the chance to try this much talked about chicken place in my little fishing village...even the daily hive made mention of this place... open by a filipino family with big hearts and a penchant for goood fried chicken!! while walking around steveston village, the smell greasy fried chicken will guide you to the store... let me give you a tip...upon walking in, there are coupons readily available for use right on the counter. i got one for a free pc of chicken...i ordered a 3 pcs and got 4 bec of the coupon. so heres the nitty gritty..the chicken is good! the skin is crispy not crunchy like churches. all the flavour is on the skin. if my palate is right, they seem to use a bit of chinese 5 spice powder. the chickens are hand breaded and cooked in a pressure cooker/ deep fryer combo. the result, you get a crispy skin with the meat being very juicy and tender. once bite and the juices will ooze out of the chicken. the flavours are very fragrant as well due to the spices. the only thing that made this a 3 star rating is that the chicken pieces were simply breaded and not brined or marinated overnight so the meat is a less tasty. They gave me four pieces each because the chicken pieces were a bit smaller which was nice. The chicken is savoury sweet with a more crusty than crispy skin. The chicken might be organic or something because they're very normally sized, not the giant ones you typically get at Church's or KFC. It was very flavourful and tasty and almost had a Chinese style taste because of what I think is five spice flavouring. The macaroni side is so bomb. I am a big fan of fried chicken and consider it my guilty pleasure. The ones offered here is Filipino style fried chicken. Located in the heart of Steveston village, most customers come here for take out as onsite seating is very, very limited. Parking may be scarce due to the popularity of Steveston village and pier for both tourists and locals. I came for fried chicken, so ignored the purple colored cake/dessert that was on display while I walked up to order. Most people will choose between the 2, 3 and 5 piece combos. I ordered the 5 piece combos (dark meat only) and got mashed potato as my side. Also ordered gravy for $1 more. As with most fried chicken joints, there was a batch of fried chicken sitting under hot light so my wait for food was not long. First impression was that the fried batter had a darker brown color than those of competitors. The batter was hard and crunchy, and not overly oily. However, every piece I tried was overly salty. There was some depth in flavor from the spices but the saltiness was overwhelming. Never have I regretted not adding a soda to my purchase. The size of the pieces were small, especially the drum stick which barely had any meat intact. Actual meat was tender and juicy. Don't order the mashed potato and gravy. They were borderline inedible. The mash was tough and chewy, and the gravy had large clumps within and tasted off (thought it was made from mushrooms or something). Should have gotten the fries and skipped the gravy, I told myself. Overall a bad fried chicken experience, especially for a place that specializes in fried chicken. Yummy! So happy there's a new fried chicken place and bonus that it's in Steveston! They opened on July 1, 2018 so the coupons in the earlier posts are no longer valid. Everything was super fresh - I had a 5 piece combo with the Filipino-style macaroni (macaroni in a tomato type sauce with slices of hot dogs). The chicken is delicious! Pieces are smaller than at LA Chicken and this place is the thinner crispy skin type of chicken rather than the heavy batter. Great to go, or you can sit outside as they have limited seating there. Beautiful fried chicken. Thin, crispy crust, well-seasoned, juicy, tender dark meat. White meat is available for $1 extra. Prices are competitive with other fried chicken shops, in my opinion, but the quality here is superior. I think they use free run chicken or some other kind of organic or heritage chicken. The chicken bones are more resilient compared to regular battery raised chicken. It is Filipino-style chicken, but I feel the recipe is influenced by Southern style because the batter is slightly more deeply fried and thicker than the super crispy style that I typically associate with Jollibee or Mcdo Philippines. I think there's a buttermilk layer, although I'm not sure. It's definitely in the running for best fried chicken in the Lower Mainland, mainly I would say for the unique spice mix in its batter and the quality of the chicken used. The spice mix is fresh, lots of herbs, and balanced. Great overall tone. It's a small shop, a little out of the way. Worth a visit though if you like fried chicken. read more

They have this ongoing promo on Facebook for a 2-piece chicken leg with Filipino style macaroni (elbow pasta with sweet spaghetti sauce with hotdogs and ground beef mixed in) and a drink for $5 so that's what I always order. Just show them the coupon they'll send you via messenger if you request for one. Their fried chicken is juicy and has a lot of flavor. What I like most is the batter on the chicken because it's not overly battered, but it's still crunchy and contains a lot of the spices. Reminds me of home-made Filipino fried chicken. The macaroni sometimes is a hit or miss, sometimes bland but more often than not, it has the sweet taste of the traditional Filipino macaroni pasta. If you don't like sweet sauce, then this might not be for you. But they have other side options though, like mashed potatoes with or without gravy, or fries which are good too. The most recent time I was there with my sister and bro-in-law, the owner Richard graciously offered us white rice to go with our orders and told us his recent customers requested rice as a side order and since he cooked a lot, he just gave more to us for free! We thought that was pretty kind and generous of him! There were also a few instances when one of the ladies at the counter gave me an extra piece of chicken with my orders and I thought that was really sweet too! Staff here are super friendly and you can tell they're all about customer satisfaction; they totally give you the warm hospitality Filipinos are known for! If you want dessert afterwards, they also sell ube with macapuno (sweet purple yam) cakes there. I have yet to taste it but it looks really good. I have heard from those who tried it that it is. New Filipino fried chicken place in Steveston. It's situated opposite of waves on the same side of the Italian restaurant. It's not really a restaurant, more of a take out shop as it is really tiny inside. I got the two piece combo with mashed potatoes and my friends got the same with Filipino pasta. The chicken skin is thin and crispy with good flavour but the meat was incredibly dry for me which was really disappointing. The mashed potatoes were ok, definitely not something to write home about and also very obviously not made in house. My friend said the pasta was incredibly sweet - probably made with banana ketchup - and he did not enjoy it. Overall impression: 3/5 I really wanted to like this place as I had received enthusiastic recommendations from friends. But from the quality of chicken I received I currently can't recommend it unless you're in the area and craving fried chicken. read more

Love the chicken here! Instead of the typical deep fried batter-coated chicken, these chickens are more like a dry rubbed with seasoning and bread crumb. Mr. Owner told us he oven dried the chicken (if I termed it properly), which is great because most places serve usually deep fried and it can get greasy.
