NEVER leave a lamp for repair without a written estimate. I left a lamp and asked approximate amount and thought I heard $100. It ended up being 3 times that to rewire a simple table lamp. It also took 5 months and only got done after I began calling. Very unhappy. read more

Great quality and selection of lamp shades and finials, from moderately priced to pricy. Pricy ones we've bought were worth it. We bring in the lamp, and are helped choosing an optimal shade in a pleasant environment. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable, but open to our input. This is a gorgeous store full of beautiful and interesting items. I was like a kid in a candy store. That being said, I think their ordering policy is a bit shortsighted: If they don't have a lamp, for example, on their floor, you can order it but it is non-returnable. We are interested in a $1200 lamp. If they had a returnable policy-even with a restocking fee-we would have ordered it. As it is, it is just too big a risk that it would not be just right for what we want. So, instead, we are ordering from Amazon. Never again will I shop here. The customer service is abhorrent. Multiple people had no trouble showing rudeness when we asked questions. We had to go back twice with issues with an item we bought and were treated badly both times. I don't know how they are still in business if they treat customers so badly. read more

Horrible experience! We got there at 5:15 to look at and purchase lighting for our whole house renovation. We were greeted with "WE CLOSE IN 15 MIN". We said ok and we started looking and while we were up stairs they actually started to turn off the lights on us. Seriously. They did not even offer to help or ask about our project. Nothing. Ultimately we did leave and went to Dorman's Lighting (http://www.dormanslighting.com/dormans/). They were wonderful. Asked us about the project. Asked if we knew what we wanted or if we needed help. And when we left it was about 15-20 min after closing but they said nothing about it. We will spend about $10,000 - $15,000 this week with Dorman's because they have great customer service. What an amazing place! I had been looking for the right thing online and just couldn't find it. The ladies at Wilson's (and the gentleman) were all very friendly and approachable without being too pushy. They were in the midst of inventory, which I know can be hectic. But they were all so warm and lovely. I left with three perfect fixtures. The man helping me get some lighting down suggested I check our the antique lighting place in the parking lot area while I waited. It was filled with beautiful pieces, one of which I also bought. The guy that owned it chatted about his place and some really interesting, rare vintage pieces that he had. He also repairs and rewires your antique fixtures. Wilson's has something for every style. I really enjoyed my experience and would highly recommend them for any needs. read more

According to the walking, talking leather handbag that was the salesperson, the reason she's not familiar with our part of town is that it's not on the water and there's nothing "upscale" enough for her to visit. This unsolicited critique of my neighborhood derived from a discussion as to the size/style of our 40's townhouse. Other than that, very little helpful information was gleaned, even though the mobile beef-jerky stick in a dress wouldn't leave us alone to look. Which was odd, in that she simultaneously hovered while being completely disinterested in what we were looking for. Same merchandise as many of their competitors, at about 30-50% higher prices, plus a side-order of condescension. People, you work sales in a lamp store. Get over yourselves. read more

NEVER "TRY" TO SHOP HERE!!! I am a person that uses a cane to aid in walking. The blond receptionist actually stood in the doorway and BLOCKED ME FROM ENTERING THE STORE, all the while mumbling "We aren't handicapped accessible." I had not even uttered a word to her yet. I did not ask for help in any way to traverse their store. Even though I walk with the aid of a cane, I can climb steps, BUT I WAS NOT ALLOWED UPSTAIRS TO THEIR SHOWROOM. I WAS TOLD TO SIT DOWNSTAIRS. This person was mumbling all the while, and seemed clearly perturbed that I had even dared to come there. This was the most disturbing, bizarre shopping experience I have ever encountered. I feel like reporting them to the ADA. This was my second time at Wilson Lighting. I will say that there will never be a third! I walked in with my family and the young lady at the desk said "hello". Not, "how may I help you", "can we assist you" or anything of the sort. Not one person asked if they could help us. We walked around for about 25 minutes before I had to go find someone to help us. When I found someone she was more concerned with her conversation with a coworker and someone who "used to work there" than answering my question. I asked if a particular chandelier came in a different finish. Her response was "Oh I don't think so....HEY, DOES THE FUNKY MONKEY COME IN A DIFFERENT COLOR?....NO!.....Any other color wouldn't look right and would be ugly". We walk around for another 10 minutes and found a light we liked. At this point the young lady from the front desk was upstairs and I asked if there were any other sales other than the sale tagged merchandise. Her response was "No, if there are any they are usually on our website". I walked her over to the light we were looking at and asked if that was the best price. She said "Would you like me to check and see." I said yes and off she went. About 5 minutes later she returned with a 15% off coupon printed off the site. Why the semantics? If all regular priced lights are 15% off just say so if someone asks. Simple and easy. I said I would like to purchase the chandelier and I asked if there is a box or do they order it. She said we get the one off the floor and they will take the crystals off and wrap it up. The guy comes over and takes it down and hands it to the young lady. It weighs 25 lbs. Needless to say neither of the guys upstairs offered to carry it down so I did. We hung it in the room on the side to be ready to transport. The woman who answered my first question started to wrap it up without taking off the 30 or so crystals. I mentioned that the lady said they would take them off, she replied "Oh we never do that, if they fall off they will land in the bag". The trash bag that they were putting it in was in my opinion not the way to transport the chandelier. The last straw was when the woman said to me "Why don't you have your electrician picking this up? That's what most people do!" I told her she could keep her chandelier and I will not be back! Took a table lamp for repair as it has a short in the cord. Went to pick it up and was feed some bullshit about unable to fix as problem was ballast. Got it home plugged in it and still found shirt was in cord and cord switch. Taking it to a competent repair shop. Don't trust these fools, just want to sell you on a line of bull. read more

Unfortunately, not much has changed since the last review for this store. My husband and I went here recently to look for new lights for our kitchen. Initially, the woman helping us was too pushy and wouldn't let us look on our own. Then, once we had a question, she was entirely condescending. So much so that we thought she was kidding. Until we realized that she was also slurring her words and smelled like mouthwash - in other words, she was rip-roaring drunk. We ended up going with Ferguson's in Timonium. read more

I am sad to see all the negative reviews because our experience was fantastic. We went in there two times to look at lights, and both times the staff was helpful without being pushy, let me look, and they answered my questions and offered to let me take a light with me if I wanted to test it out. They were wonderful. We went back today to purchase a beautiful chandelier. I searched online to find the light, and it was hard to find anyplace, and the price Wilson's had, though slightly higher than one other store I found online, was very competitive, especially because of the fact it was here in town, and they were great about the purchase. They have so much to choose from, and I couldn't believe the selection and options available locally. I have some antique lights, and now I know I can go there to have them rewired or repaired if need be, too. So, my experience was great, and I am in love with my new chandelier. read more

Went in to look for a lampshade and brought the dimensions of my old lampshade with me. The lady who worked upstairs in lampshades had to be one of the rudest, most snobby people I have ever met. She was not helpful at all and I can tell you that I will not ever set foot in that place again! Lady, get over yourself, you aren't all that much! read more
