My husband is a woodworker and is always looking for great sources for quality wood, as well as inspiration pieces. We've been to ReStore, which we love. We also recently discovered Second Chance, which we thought was awesome. So, we were excited when we found out about this place. The amount of wood that they had was amazing! It was a fantastic assortment of different quality kinds of wood, at very reasonable prices! They have a great selection of items that you might need for your home, whether you are remodeling, or just looking to add a few new pieces to your decor. I did not realize until I looked at their website that they have a $10 per year membership fee. However, for the quality of items you get at such amazing prices, it's definitely worth it to support a great non-profit. read more

Thankfully, The Loading Dock (TLD) in Baltimore, MD, takes financial donations. They do need them, for the "General Fund," to keep the lights on. Also, they take checks and value privacy;-) Just by looking at their video shorts, I wish that I could make trips there with my children, but "when life gets busy" time flys by. I get a chuckle when I see their staff of 2-4 at a time refer to things I grew up with "as antiques," but I guess they are. Everything is "back in style" every 25+ years, so if it's "Stinkin' Cute" don't be afraid to try it! Their "customer service staff" is delightful and outstanding++ as they have been from the beginning! I could spend hours (as one of their staff members has suggested in a video short), but my family would officially think "I had gone missing". (that's a "joke" in case you've lost your sense of humor these days) As an ex-fed, I'm thankful that I'm a member of the very "inexpensive annual $10 donation of product" team. It breaks my heart when I see people tear up old homes on some, but not all TV Reno shows. The next time my contractor is able to work here, I'm going to recommend that they take all of their "unused but still good materials here". Thankfully, TLD (at 2 N. Kresson St., in Baltimore, MD 21224) sells fantastic products from "what was truly back in the day" at Extra Low Prices. Such a small staff, still running fast. Wow! What a gem! We needed some backsplash tile for our newly renovated kitchen. My husband suggested we check here first. I am a bit picky so was a bit skeptical. Well, this is now my go-to spot. First, I was impressed by how well organized everything was. We found some great tile--at a fraction of what I was about to pay, even with an on-line discount. This is a cool spot if you are looking to do home renovations on the cheap or looking for unique fixtures. And you can find it. Mind you this isn't Second Chance... but it's the same kind of place. Stuff that came out of old houses that is in too good to throw away condition finds it's way here hoping for someone to rescue it from the Quarantine Road pile. They have a lot of tile and random old paint for crafters and a bunch or wood too. Otherwise the stock rotates and they have a lot of outdated things in less than great condition, but the prices are fair so... you get what you pay for. read more

They do not appreciate customer loyalty, ignore customer requests for orders and generally don't care. There are many stores in the area with a focus on customer service, variety and good prices. Avoid this one. read more

My boyfriend and I checked out all 3 Habitat for Humanity Restores in MD, proceeded to Second Chance, and finally scouted out the Loading Dock. I really wish we had started at the Loading Dock ~ ! ~ I'm not knocking the other places, but Loading Dock is, by far, the BEST salvaged / second-hand material store (non-profit or otherwise) I have EVER been to. I'm an artist and interior decorator on both coasts (CA & MD), so I'm no stranger to architectural salvage. Loading Dock's inventory is massive and their prices are beyond the beyonds of reasonable. Second Chance has some truly amazing salvage, but I find their prices are generally extremely high. I have a soft spot for Habitat for Humanity's ReStore because I love the non-profit, volunteered for them in the past, and they do have some really good deals. Still, LOADING DOCK is the BEST I've seen ~ on either coast ~ in terms of inventory and pricing. Here are some examples, based on our purchases today: wood-paneled vintage door, excellent quality $1. I kid you not. $1, as in ONE AMERICAN DOLLAR!!!!! Loading Dock (who I will abbreviate as "LD" for the rest of this review) was having a HUGE sale on the majority of their doors. Even the non-sale doors were EXTREMELY WELL PRICED. For example, a large lot of truly beautiful antique wood doors with absolutely gorgeous hardware were $40 each. I LOVED these doors, but they weren't the right size. I considered buying one of the doors just for the hardware!!! We also bought 2 lovely, vintage/antique lanterns for $3 each. Oh, and we bought a beautiful, brand new porcelain sink for ~ wait for it ~ $10 ~ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My boyfriend and I ran into other blissed out couples happily taking advantage of LD's fabulous inventories and pricing. We all agreed you could easily build a home from scratch with 100% of the materials coming from The Loading Dock. My boyfriend and I are actually considering it ... On a finaly note, the people who work at Loading Dock were really nice. Ryan and someone named something like Felnor were super helpful and nice on the floor. The gals at the register, Erica & Adara, were really lovely. Erica went out of her way to help us match hardware and knobs. Adara helped us with pricing unmarked materials and LD's layout. My boyfriend and I can't wait to go back when we are more organized to make more purchases! We'll be sure to bring measurements of EVERYTHING we might want or need for the home AND we will be sure to bring our own MEASURING TAPE. Can't believe I forgot it! They are nice about lending theirs, but it is easier to bring your own, of course. This salvage store is off the beaten path yet harbors high quality true finds. Damien helped me to negotiate a hand painted sink that is 4X the price on eBay and 10X the price brand new!! I found Ben paint in excellent condition with 2019 dates on the lids again at a fraction of what the retail price is. Super friendly help - patient and friendly. Damien helped me out to my car with my treasures. I should say this place is fabulous- it is even better than I imagined. read more

The recent move to an even larger warehouse has expanded the selection of excess building materials offered at bargain prices. Memberships cost $10 a year, and are easily worth their pice after a single trip. About half the inventory is unused building materials, and the other half are previously-installed parts of houses that have been gutted and donated to the loading dock. The weekly special change, and in the past have included dish washers for $5 or window screens for 25c. read more

I did not find this place too helpful. I just bought a house and need to do a lot of work and someone recommended this place. I think I went in with really high hopes because I was extremely let down. It is mostly building supplies, like old cabinets, old sinks, old windows... and I am a huge vintage freak, however none of these items had any kind of charm to be worth it. I also was interested in the tile for a backsplash but you literally had to get on your hands and knees to search through rubble to find anything. It seemed to be a lot of junk and not a lot of treasures. I am sure if you had all day to sort through stuff and knew exactly what you needed it would be a great place, but for browsing and hoping something will catch you eye, it was a total failed attempt. read more

If you are in need of tile or wood flooring, this might be a good place for some deeply discounted material. While there are salvaged toilets, sinks, cabinets and other fixtures, I didn't see any pieces that hearken back to before the 1960s. read more

This is a great way to save money and also save the environment. There are many usable cabinets, dishwashers (used), stoves (used), tiles, etc. I purchased a large piece of unused linoleum for $45, which would have retailed for $220 or more. I also purchased a set of banisters for about $30 that would have cost over $200. It is a hit or miss kind of place--somedays nothing that I want or need and other days wish I had a truck! read more

Bought two insulated prefinished windows for $5 each and $10 for one time membership. This place is huge. They have everything you need for building if do not expect to find it in just one visit. I love it here! You do have to look around, if you go with a shopping list and know what you are looking for, most times I come home with what I need! The prices are always good! Great location for salvaged building materials like old doors, cabinets, wood, tile, etc. We are renovating 2 bathrooms and found subway wall tile for both bathrooms for $84.00 which was a huge savings. We found it well organized and the staff was friendly and helpful. You need to be a member to make a purchase which is just $10 for the year. Even with the annual fee we came out way ahead on our tile purchase. Dress appropriately, as it is a dusty warehouse and you will have to do some digging around to find what you are looking for. read more

At best, two stars. These people are extremely untrusting, usually rude, difficult to deal with, and very greedy! I have tried to utilize them for several years on several projects (I own a business remodeling homes) and 9 out of 10 visits here I have been met with all stated and hostility.
