I'm so disappointed with the attitudes that I had to deal with yesterday. I've not heard of this place, a friend told me to go check it out. I went there looking for a dishwasher and found one. I was fearful that it might not work, since you can't plug it up there and find out, so I asked the guy in charge of that area if I get home and find out it doesn't work then what can I do. He told me that I could bring it back and get a full return if I do it before the end of the week. When I registered, the lady told me that if I have a problem with it and I just don't wait 30-40 days then I can do the same. Those words stuck in my head so it gave me peace. I get home and we're having problems with it and so I call back 2 days later and the guy who picked up the phone said "That's a problem because we don't take returns or exchanges". He passed the phone off to a woman, and I'm mad I didn't ask for both their names because I would just blast both of them versus the whole business, but the attitude was insane. They acted like I was stealing money from their own pockets. read more

Southern Sales is a great resource for any renovation. My dad told me about this place and I am glad I checked it out, great alternative to Home Depot and Lowes. The only complaint is all items are final sale. Also, make sure to check out their monthly sale, which is the first weekend of each month. This warehouse sale is offered to ticketed customers only. You can request tickets in advance at ticketsource.us. I purchased some beautiful mirrored tile for my fireplace and kitchen cabinets. I am eyeing some lights I may purchase for my bathroom. Overall, the quality of the materials are good. If you order kitchen cabinets you have to do this process over email, it took about 60 plus emails (thank you for your patience team) to get all the information I needed and to order everything custom to my kitchen. A 50% non-refundable deposit is due prior to processing, so I had to make sure the measurements were just right with my contractor before placing my order. It took about two weeks for my cabinets to arrive, I was originally estimated about 4 - 6 weeks. Also, right before I placed my order the price went up by 9.5% due to supply chain issues. So if you are contemplating a renovation just move forward prices will continue to rise. I ended up selecting the CNC Cabinets in elegant white. These cabinets are constructed of plywood with solid wood doors, soft close feature and come fully assembled in boxes. The cabinets cost an additional $250 to ship to Southern Sales. My contractor picked up the cabinets and the Southern Sales team helped him load the cabinets into his truck. If you want the cabinets shipped to your home that is another $150. I love my new cabinets and the tile on my fireplace. read more

When he said I stolen from him he was going to call the police. I told no problem I will leave the store. i when to another warehouse in Glen Burie and bought the moulding for 1/3 of the price. My dad brought us here when we were renovating the house. They had a really nice tile section with really affordable prices. The doors and door frames were a great price too. We purchased four doors here to finish up our basement. We also purchased beveled subway tiles for our kitchen backsplash. They do charge 10% more for non contractors I believe. But that still keeps you cheaper than Home Depot. We paid 2$ per sq feet for the subway tiles and I think 80-100$ for each wooden door (real wood thru and thru). Great place as long as you know what you want. This is not retail. Getting ideas, or asking questions about product isnt going to go to far. If your looking for a particular bedside manner go somewhere else. Doing a 4th renovation, and always use this place. The only thing I can say is after purchasing something at auction keep close tabs. There's wing nuts who'll pick your purchases up and break them. You're still on the hook to purchase after you bid and win. Also know what retail prices are. Bidders can run items up past retail prices. read more

I've been doing a lot of home remodeling and my budget's super-tight. My contractor tipped me off to this place. It's a giant warehouse on the outskirts of the city. No air-conditioning and it's kind of dark. But -- here's where you can find some high-end bath, kitchen, and home building supplies for very little moolah. We're talking faucets, bath vanities, bath tubs, chandeliers, tile, doors, almost everything for a remodeling job including the kitchen sink! They have auctions every couple weeks, but during normal business hours, a lot of stuff is also available for immediate purchase on the showroom floor. The only downside is the location and lack of delivery options. So bring a friend and a van. read more

But during my walkabout, I was randomly approached by a white worker asking me (a tall black man) what I was doing here and why I was walking around. He then began accusing me of suspicious behavior, in which I took no part. After I protested, and rightfully told him that his behavior was RACIST (because it was), he doubled down on asking me why I was in the warehouse. BEWARE the racists in that place. I called to complain, but the woman who answered my call completely brushed me off because the RACIST was the boss. I don't know what all the fuss is about with Southern Sales. I've been there several times and have never had a problem. Was going to buy a refrigerator and told the guy I needed to measure my opening first. He told me no problem and told me to call and ask for him personally which I did, again no problem. Maybe I caught them on a good day, haha. As far as the prices being "above or close" to retail, I disagree. The refrigerator I was going to purchase was at least $500 below retail, although it did have a scratch on the side. Not a concern for me as I was going to slide It between cabinets. They have a lot of high end stuff there, things your not going to see at Lowe's or Home Depot. My advice is try it , you may like it. I am shocked as to how a company as such stays in business! Horrible customer service.

Poor customer service. I walked into the building and nobody approached me to ask if I needed assistance. I walked over to the desk where a man was sitting to ask for help. He looked at me and said that he was looking at photos on his phone. I asked if there was anyone that could help and he said, "NO". Something about the older guy that wore glasses was off and I'm thinking he didn't want to help bc of the color of my skin. As I left the desk I saw a different employee named Adrian who was able to answer my questions, although I was told that I had to buy the product (a $3k refrigerator) before actually seeing it and ALL sales wound be final. Buyers beware!!!! This was further confirmation and too many red flags that Southern Sales does NOT deserve me as a customer nor my business or money. Auctioneers are very assertive, and can be a bit rude. Despite advertising 40 - 70% off MSRP, prices are still at or above retail pricing. Vanities are at par with prices you find at home improvement stores. They do have a larger selection, however. Be prepared to bid above retail + 10% auction fee and 6% sales tax during the auction. If not at the auction be prepared to pay retail to 20% above retail pricing for items. Granted I only paid attention to bathroom fixtures and vanities, listed prices were still high. Lighting fixture prices were out of this world... very high. Also I would like to add that backslash pricing was also slightly above retail. read more

I attended their auction when I bought a fixer-upper and needed LOTS of supplies. I purchased two granite vanities, which were in boxes where you could see the sink part of each, but nothing else. I was told that I could not open the boxes to inspect the items. So, I didn't. Several weeks later I was quite upset to learn that one vanity had a big blemish (that was covered by the box), and neither top had black splashes. I was stuck with something I couldn't use. Both are now stored in my basement. You can get some good deals if you are able to look the item over -- every inch of it. There are also some things that are expensive so you must be familiar with retail prices before you go. read more

This is an auction house that sells surplus unused construction and renovation items. It's not a lot of other things. No 'auctioneer' allows any sort of returns nor provides anything beyond a rudimentary bit of customer service. If you want to shop, need coddling, expect help seek it elsewhere. Try it on for size on a Saturday when you have time to learn the ins and outs. You need a bidder number. The items you win are yours, even if you don't take them. If you know you want something, see it here, bid on it, win, and can haul it away you will probably save somewhere between some and a lot. A huge selection of stuff that you pick from. The 'auctioneer' has a basic reserve price in mind, and you need to be super quick on your feet and shop long before the hammer is raised and drops sometimes seconds later. They move from section to section and offer each item, I've seen some things go the first time I saw them and others languish for months. Preview day on Friday is the time to dawdle and hope. If you don't like the system don't participate. Please. If you're not familiar and expect something else, you'll be another negative review. I have never ever been so insulted in my life than what I had experienced at Southern Sales today! I went there today after being referred by a friend. My roommate and I had not long gotten there when he saw a sink that caught his eye. We stopped to look at the sink when a gray haired man motioned for us to move from where we were standing. The man started shaking his head and said, "I need you to move from there, can't you read!". At that moment, he goes to pick up a sign that had apparently fallen on the floor, prior to my roommate and I getting there. I said to him, "Yes, we can read! Who do you think you are talking to like that!" He retorted, "There's a sign, can you read?" I replied, "The sign was on the floor and we did not see it!". He then started fussing saying, "I can't keep picking up this sign!" I proceeded to continue browsing as at this point I started to fume. I went back to the man and asked was he a manager. He said "Yes, I am". I then asked were there any other managers I could talk to and that it is a shame that as a manager he would talk to his customers like that! I said that I will make sure that everyone I know, will know how he treats his customers. He then said, "I don't give a damn who you tell!, You don't ever have to come back here." I then heard him talking across the room to a woman who apparently worked there and I then approached her and told her what he had said to us. She then replied, looking very nonchalant, "It's hot today, he's hot". I replied, "That's all you have to say is that it's hot??" She then said, "Well, I apologize for his behavior." I then asked, "that's it?? You're not going to deal with him for treating customers like that??" She replied, "What do you want me to do, throw him out of the store for not apologizing to you??" I said, "You should be apologizing to me!" So I proceeded to walk out of the store and I heard him yell, "get her out of here!" She follows me to the door and started yelling at me telling me to get out and that I was making a scene in front of her customers! I am assuming that they both were most likely the owners of this business! They both treated my roommate and I like we were worthtless and I have never been so insulted! Although I hate to throw the race card in there, but when things like this happen, particularly when their behaviour was so degrading both in their tone and in their posture; I just have to wonder. From the way he motioned for us to move, as if we we children and the fact that he would have the audacity to ask us if we could read! I'm not sure if in fact they were the owners but I have a good feeling that they were and from my research, the man that insulted me may have been Arnold Zimmerman and possibly his wife. I've been to this place twice and each time I've been treated rudely by the Caucasian staff. I am African American. I certainly see a pattern. The old white man with the ponytail and the woman withe the short red hair gave me dirty looks, claimed to be closed before closing time and was unapologetic about their rudeness. The African American security guard is out of his element and can't handle all the issues the rude staff has with customers. I will never set foot in this place again and advise that you do the same. I love this auction, have bought a lot of items here, and I am a regular customer. I think the people who run the business are fine to deal with, as long as you know what you want, are willing to abide by their rules, treat them with respect, and don't waste their time. Bottom line these people have a business to run and if you break something then no one wants to buy it, they loose money, and the business will cease to operate. I've seen customers get pretty rough with the merchandise, in fact I've purchased items and seen other customers touching, opening and closing, and picking them up. When you've spent $1000 plus for an item its pretty irritating to have other customers messing with your items. The lady you are referring to I believe to be the owner's mother. Its freezing cold inside the building in the Winter and can get pretty hot in the Summer. This isn't a fancy showroom but has a lot of fancy items. As long as I'm remodeling and decorating I'm going to keep going here. read more

The prices can be fantastic. Make sure you have researched your item(s) and know if what you are buying is a deal or not. It is overwhelming in terms of product and space. The guys on the floor are all really great. Unfortunately the women are not. They are not pleasant even if you are extending a "hello" and the owner's wife who mans the front and the older short haired blonde lady that is a cashier are exceptionally rude and abusive. The prices can be so good that perhaps they have adopted an "I don't care" attitude. Buyer Beware. Lots of selection but the items on sale are only marginally cheaper for the SAME product you'd buy at Home Depot. When I questioned one of the owners son's on this fact, showing him the same product online as I did, I was told that the quality is different. This response maybe true for bathroom sinks etcetera but for a hollow paneled door it is not. The lighting is very expensive but I sense they don't care about that because that's not their main revenue. As for tile and wood floors its good but you run into the issue of coverage, they only have what they have and zero chance of ordering more.... the appliances caught my eye but the issue there is there's zero come-back if you buy a dud. So you could be $$$$ out and basically with a unusable item that you'll need to hire someone to fix - which pushes the price above just buying new with warranty and return policy. That all said the venue has some interesting items not available at the big-box stores so it can be worth a look. read more

One of the young salesman accused a customer who was trying to return an item as a cheater and lier in front of other customers and he threthened me to throw out of the premises if i didnot obey his instructions. I have been in home improvement business more than 20 years and rate this place overall F. Customer service is bad, the lady who calls herself manager of the place is rude and not useful for customers at all. During business hours daily there are some good deal but if you have to deal with the lady salesperson forget it. There was a young man who also was not useful solving my issue and very confrontational. I bought two different hardwood flooring that just looked perfect on display and were practically junk when I opened the boxes. One job was 1700 sqft over $8000 with tax and 10% premium and was accepted by customer as low quality work. The other job was only 300 sqft and I ended up after 3 trips to the place to take out the floor and do the job over with another wood and had the worse experience dealing with that strange woman so-called salesperson / manager at the place. I ended up spending about $1500 more on the second job and got a lot of maple wood to burn as firewood. The auction is too busy and chaotic, the place is cold in winter and too hot in summer. They have strict rule for pick up with a short window and if thru the chaos you miss the pick up times you lose your items bought. I was sick one day and could not go during weekend and was asking for a couple more hours extra for Monday past 12 noon the pick up closing time since I was going there from Virginia. Finally I had to rush to make it before 12 noon Monday to pick up my item and the same lady gave me such hard time it changed my mind about the auction too. There are too many items in this place that should be sold and moved, but in my opinion for poor customer service, poor management and strange sales / auction schedule and rules the place is piling up more and more material and stuff is not moving as they should. These are the reasons I will not go to this place and will have a lot of joy avoiding this place if I find another alternative for stuff I need. Personally now I think for the time wasted going there and poor customer service and uncertainty about the material quality I am better off just buying the material locally even at much higher price. For higher price I will have assured customer service, a chance to resolve the issue and not all sales final and much better quality assurance with much less time spent. read more
