I was ripped off by this place! I had two curtains altered and when I went to pick up the lady told me that'll be $20. I looked at my bank statement and she charged $40, I called her back and she says "that was $20 apiece" then she decided to argue with me. Totally misleading, avoid at all costs. read more

The women who work here do a great job on alterations and in my opinion work magic. I do not take my things anywhere else, from a hem on pants to altering formal dresses, I'm never disappointed. read more

NEVER go back. This use to be a great place....now they are just money-hungry owners. I agree with the one review: Ladies who work here are rude and unapologetic. To shine a pair of shoes is $8....BUT...to shine a pair of boots.....$20 ! And they could care less if you are unhappy. My husband and I use to do a lot of business with them. Never again. read more

I have been going here for years- they are the best seamstresses around! It's a very busy shop and they do their best to get clothes back as soon as possible. I had my wedding dress altered- off the rack it was a size 10 and I am a size 2-4. They did a fantastic job, the dress looked like it was made for me. It's a very simple operation in that there are no computers and automated racks, so sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for them to find something. It is just a group of hard working women who are highly skilled in their craft. The owner's name is Tina and she's had the store for over 20 years. She is the hardest working woman I know. read more

I've been using the tailor service sporadically for 20+ years. They are close to home. When I've stopped at the shop for a smaller job like a ripped pocket or fallen hem, Tina has given my smaller job to a gal on a larger project so I could get in and out! I think her prices are reasonable. Prior to my sons wedding, and I'm talking 2 nights before, I was frantic. My inflammatory arthritis was at its worst with all the prep and stress. I could no longer wear my higher shoes. So my dress was dragging on the ground. With an hour until close, Tina pinned and hemmed it for me after closing, and phoned me that it was ready that night! Looked great. I felt comfortable and I felt she did me the greatest favor in the world that night. read more

This place was a life saver! Had a little mishap on my way to a wedding. we stopped in and they saved the day. Would totally go there again and recommend it to others. read more

Do not use them. Their work is sloppy, lazy and shoddy. I brought in a dress to be shortened and cut down. They used a knit sewing machine with incorrect tension so that the sewing will unravel. Messy too. Then I had a pair of pants that were too big. So they folded over the back seam, left the excess material in and just sewed over it. I will not go back. Items not ready for pickup on time. Prices and a breakdown on work not given till order was picked up. Years ago when Tina did the work it was OK. Now, it looks like unskilled labor doing piece work. Stay away. read more

I had never used a shoe repair place before and trusting my fellow yelpers (as they have never let me down) I went to this place based on the glowing recommendations of other posts. Left a boot here for repair on a Tuesday, they said it should be done Saturday so after over a week went by I called them. Over the phone they spent 10 min looking for my ticket number and or boot with no luck and ask me if I already picked it up yesterday?! So I drove over with the other boot thinking that would help. The shoe repair guy says he never saw this boot and didn't fix it. After 20 minutes they finally locate it with someone elses shoes in a bag to be picked up. After all this hassle I think they would have at least apologized or offered some kind of discount or coupon. Never again! read more

For a simple fix this might be the place but they are RUDE! Double check the work before you pay it and ask how much it will cost before you leave your stuff there. read more

I had a unique problem. My dog had chewed on some leashes, one a clean break. Arturo, the cobbler, repaired them for me. He did excellent work in a timely manner and for a reasonable price. I'd go back. read more

The owner Tina became very pissed off because they did not do the work right. They left my jeans to long and had to do them over. At first Tina said that cotton shrinks and I told her that I wash the jeans in cold water and hang to dry. Tina kept on and on about how cottton shrinks. I felt she wasn't telling the truth because she did not want correct her mistake. What happen to the customer being right. After all I'm paying for the work. When I went to pick up my clothes Tina told me to take my business somewhere else. Tina said,"I am to old and tired to be bother with this." I'm glad to take my business elsewhere where a PROFESSIONAL tailor will be pleasant to me and happy to have my business. I also checked with several PROFESSIONAL Tailors and they said COTTON DOES NOT SHRINK! I knew I was right. What would these designers do when their labels say wash in cold water and line dry?! read more

Went to pick up 2 pairs of shoes/boots today that simply needed to have the heels capped with the little rubber things to find that they charged me $50 for the repairs AND a cleaning which I did not ask for. When I questioned the perpetually off-putting and snarly witch of an owner about the cleaning charge, she had the audacity to suggest that I requested the cleaning and pointed to the portion of the original ticket which SHE filled out in black ink - a stark contrast to the name and phone number she asked me to fill out in blue ink. I even pointed out the ink color discrepency and you could tell she'd been caught red-handed. I've heard horror stories about this place from other neighbors, but couldn't believe the treatment I got when I went there today to pick up my shoes. The owner is so incredibly rude and hard-nosed, it is shocking she can sustain a profitable business. I felt so sorry for the cobbler who looked remorseful and shook his head at her upon seeing how she treated me. With another shoe repair shop also just down the street in Darien where the owners smile and are overly-friendly, I think it is pretty clear who will be geting my business from now on. Oh, and as for tailoring - Ah Sew on Cass in Westmont is a 1,000 times more reasonable and professional. read more

Honestly, I can't believe they are still in business given the prices they charge. I brought 2 dresses in to be altered for my daughter. The first was for homecoming and the second was a dress the school choir picked out and ordered. The Homecoming dress needed to be taken in and shortened - they charged $75.00! I really thought it was because it was a designer dress, although we had gotten it second hand. The dress for the school choir cost $50 to order and buy - they charged me $90.00 to alter it!!! What could I do....my daughter needed it for a choir concert that day. And, neither dress was ready when they originally said they would be. They get a 1 star rating since the work they did was good, just WAY TOO MUCH! And no indication up front as to how much they were going to charge (I expected $25-$30 for each dress). I will NEVER go back there. read more

I am totally flabbergasted after reading all these reviews! They must be talking about another tailor shop. Not my experience at all. Tina IS AN AMAZING WOMEN WITH A HEART OF GOLD AND HER QUALITY OF WORK IS NEXT TO NONE!!! I was recommended to her after I went to pick up my gown for my daughter's wedding from previous tailor only to be told she hadn't started it. She had it for over 3 weeks!!! Being that my daughter's wedding was in 4 DAYS, I was in a bit of a panic. I made countless calls to other tailors only to be told too busy. My bf went to talk to Tina then called me and told me to get dress there by time they closed at 7 and Tina would look at it. I shot over right away and Tina spent an hour with me pinning the gown and finally after several attempts I was good to go. Tina said she would call me tomorrow when done. I WAS IN SHOCK AND SO VERY GRATEFUL!!! She called me at 4:30 the next day and informed me the gown was ready and she had been working on it since 9am! She told me to come over soon because she was not letting me leave until all was perfect!! Just one adjustment had to be made and I was good to go. The gown was perfect on my daughter's wedding day and as the Mother of the Bride I was beaming!!!!! I have found a new tailor for all my family's and my needs. read more

WORST Experience ever! I went here with a bridemaid's dress that just needed a hem. She not only charged me $75 when the price was listed at $25- $28 but when I questioned why it cost so much Tina insulted me by saying "if I knew you were too poor to pay for this I would have maybe worked out a deal" and said "go ask your mother to give you money for this" Which is very insulting to a grown woman. Then continued to tell me it was so much because she sewed closed the front of the dress, which I did NOT ask her to do. Then I told her I'm not paying for alterations that I didn't ask for and that she needs to open the dress so that it matches the other bridesmaids. She refused to fix her mistake and took the dress and refused to give it to me unless I paid for the MISTAKE she made. So she ruined my bridesmaids dress, overcharged me and made me pay for my the mistake she made or I wouldn't be able to get my dress back. HORRIBLE SERVICE! read more

I completely agree with other reviews that they are RUDE. I brought to clean my shoes. It was soft leather Sam Edelman shoes. I asked to clean inside, because shoes has residue of smoke after fire. When I went to pick up the shoes I gave credit card to pay first and when I opened the pack to see if it is my shoes I was shocked. Shoes were completely destroyed. It was black shoes with dark snake leather imitation. All snake part was painted with some kinda paint. You can clearly see on the edge of the sole. When I told for lady (she must be owner or responsible for that place) that you guys destroyed shoes she start screaming on me that shoes were dirty. Yes, that is why I brought to clean them, not to paint. I asked to return my money she refused to do it and told to come back next day. She was so mean to me in front all employees and other customers. Please, never use this place. I work for big retail company where customer service is number one to be successful. This lady is worst in customer service I experienced in my 13 years of living in America. I still shocked. read more

I had my wedding dress hemmed and bustled here. They were fairly friendly, but did not work on my dress for a while and would only seem to do something when I would call or come in asking if I needed another fitting yet even though my wedding was a week away at this point. The day before the wedding I was coming to pick up the dress. When I tried it on, the hem was slightly uneven which I could deal with, but the shoulder straps were not the same and the "pressing" left wrinkles that they said were from the box. I asked them to fix the shoulders and sent my mother-in-law in to pressure them into pressing it again because she is more forceful than me. She did manage to get them to actual press it completely and it looked pretty good. On the wedding day my shoulders were still different and off-kilter in many a picture, which bothers me, and the bustle only lasted about 5 minutes. We kept trying to retie it, but it fell completely apart and I ended up having to dance with most of the skirt down and people stepping on it. They were a more reasonable price than the wedding shop tailor, but I would look elsewhere if I could do it again. read more

I have been using this business for approx 5 years. I only use the tailoring service for patchwork on my clothes, usually jeans. They have always done an excellent job and in a timely and economical fashion. I cannot speak for the shoe repair service, although that appears to be a business in a business, and I think should be reviewed separately. I have not been treated rudely, as others have felt, but rather they are straight to the point, and that works for me. As a small business owner that must deal with the retail public, it is very difficult most times with the whining, complaining, and lack of gratitude, all while trying to stay on schedule, manage employees, do a great job, and still make a dime. We just want to provide a quality service and get paid accordingly for doing so. So yes, if you need a hug and hand holding by your service provider, you should prob go elsewhere. It is very hard to find service providers who have been in business a long time, that still about their work. Willowbrook Tailor does, and I am happy to make the extra drive to use their service. read more

many years of doing business here - always satisfied with the work, but almost never ready when promised. today i picked up boots i had dyed from grey to black. they had dyed them brown. tina insisted i had told her brown. i already have the same boots in brown, so no way. instead of admitting she made a mistake, she said she would have to charge me the exact same amount to redo. after years of loyalty, never complaining when they are late and the big bucks i have paid them over the years, i thought she would make things right. i'll find a new place - with people who smile, are willing to say "hello" and will admit to their mistakes. read more

I brought in a suit case for repair, the one side of the handle broke off the suit case. I was told that I needed to find the handle to replace the broke one, which I did. At which time I asked how much it would cost to have the bracket that holds the handle on switched out, I said $5.00, Arturo told me probably $10.00. After the parts arrived in the mail, I dropped off my suit case for repair, was told would be ready Wednesday. When I went back to pick up my suit case, the amount that I was charged was $20.00. I could not believe the cost to take 2 screws out, put new bracket on and put 2 screws back on. I asked the older woman are you serious, she asked Arturo, and he said yes the charge is $20.00, the job took him 3 hours to do. Seriously, how could this simple task take anyone 3 hours to do? Hmmm nothing like lying to your face. I said if that took you 3 hours to do, maybe you need to find a new job. I would not refer this place of business to anyone who does not want to be ripped off. By the way, they did have my phone number, and never did try to call advising me I was going to get screwed...... read more
