When you enter, you're greeted by a huge wooden Chief Wasatch sculpture at the entrance. It's kind of hard to miss and gives the whole place a bit of character before you even step onto the paths. From there, it opens up into this really clean, green space that just feels well cared for. And clean is the big thing here that matters. It feels like the park is well maintained. The grass is lush, the landscaping is especially pretty in the summer months, and there are tons of mature trees that give you shade without making the place feel closed in. It strikes a nice balance between open space and cozy, private areas. The walking paths are another highlight. They're easy, flat, and perfect if you're just trying to clear your head or, like me, take a quick break and stretch your legs. You've also got little views of water here and there that add to the calm vibe without turning it into a full-on destination park. What's kind of impressive is how much is packed into one place. There's an amphitheater, sports fields for pretty much everything, a pool, even an outdoor ice rink when it's in season. The park has playgrounds, picnic areas, and pavilions, too. The park is open year-round and is clearly a local favorite because it's always buy, but the crowds never felt overwhelming when I was there. There's enough space to spread out, which helps. Overall, this park is not trying to be anything flashy, just a really solid, well-kept community park. Easy to walk, nice to look at, and surprisingly relaxing for a quick stop. Definitely one of those spots you end up appreciating more than you expected.

Kennie prides himself in knowing where every single fishing spot on the Weber river. It's no wonder, he is an outfitter and has 5 guides under him. First time to ask Kennie for 2 days in a row. This time around, he took us into a private waters of the Weber river near Taggart. The fishing was just insane - so many caught and netted but forgot how many. Second day we went after the huge brown trout was treated to an excellent fishing adventure. I am just over the top with how he takes care of this clients. Kennie even gave us the special flies he custom ties to use on the Provo river, showed us where to go and how to fish it. So the 3rd day, when we went to the spot he told us to go, Kennie was with 2 clients exactly in the same spot. He was so gracious, helped us cross the water safely, told us to fish the same spots after his clients have fished it. We were successful on our own due to his teachings, techniques, flies and guidance. Love this guide - if you ever want to actually catch fish, see Kennie!

You'll find a spacious more than six…read moreacres of space to walk your dog, walk yourself, have a picnic, play a football game, or take in nature. The stars of the show are the ducks, right at the entrance of the pond. You can't help to be entertained. The best natural feature are the trees. Rare to our area, you'll find a bunch of Weeping Willows, with drooping limbs and thin leaves that stay green until winter, when they finally get golden. Also, there are several very nice spruce trees. The park isn't very visually appealing, as it is surrounded by concrete. It's a bit junky, with litter floating around and pond scum overtaking many of the water areas. And there isn't much enforcement of leash laws. I had to dodge several turds. Please provide bags and have some threatening signs. If you look at other parks in our area, their field availability is more sport-specific, usually with a backstop and bases for baseball, painted-out football area, painted soccer area with goalposts, a basketball court, etc. This has none of that with their "activity" area (horseshoes and tetherball) overrun with cracked concrete and weeds. Overall, the park doesn't reflect well on Millcreek or Salt Lake County. It's a shame since it's a big, open space.

Can I be completely honest? I've never really met a park that I didn't like, and Scott Avenue fits…read morethat bill. I do like it. It's really unique. And I'm a big fan of Wasatch Community Gardens, who--in cooperation with SL County--has a community garden space here that I saw and that I wanted to wander around in. It's locked up, as it should be, but I would have loved to go in and see the plots that people have, and what they choose to plant. I'm pretty sure someone there is growing wheat, which is fascinating (if not impractical in such a small plot) but I'm a total garden geek and love to see what people are doing. I mean, I grow weird stuff. I aspire to have a large property with lots of veggie beds with the weirdest and most eclectic varieties I can find, and one bed just for orange dahlias. So I'm not judging here, so much as I'm looking for ideas. And I also love the water that goes through here. First, you have the big cement wall pond that holds a bunch of geese and ducks, and this time of year there are lots of widdle baby duckwings and geese (aka cobra chickens) that are pretty friendly. I also saw a dude fishing there tonight, but all he caught was a t-shirt. There's also a small stream that meanders through the property towards the southwest. It passes through a bog and tree area before disappearing. So those are all good things, in addition to a small playground, restrooms, and a glass recycling station as well. But It feels like the park is in a transition, and it will yet again be great soon. There are a some brand new trees, but they are near what looks to be an abandoned volleyball court (just a few poles and a cement outline, covered in with grass). And the grass isn't the really welcoming green, soft stuff. It's green-ish, and it looks like the sprinklers are in need of a tuneup. And the large dirt patches and stumps tell a story of a lot more trees--like a lot--that used to line the park but were removed recently. So while I found myself in the neighborhood and would definitely stop by again (because, parks) I'm also eager to see the improvements here take hold, to see it re-vegetate, and to turn into more of a destination.
