What a fun place for dogs off leash and photographers taking senior pictures, wedding and family photos. So much to look at and explore--just beautiful--but I especially loved the roaring creek and stone bridge, the various trees and flowers, memorials and walking paths. Would love to come back with my dog and explore!

One of the many parks in Salt Lake City, located not too far from the Capitol building. It was busy…read morewith people and lots of dogs (all getting along and having fun). A stream cuts through the park, creating a relaxing and peaceful space. There are several displays that commemorate the spirit of freedom and liberty in our country. The installations invite you to reflect on these foundational ideas. Some of the installations were in disrepair and could benefit from some TLC. Still, it's worth a visit.

It's well worth the $60/day fee with full hookups. The campsite also has clean fire pits, picnic tables, and a water spout. It's dog friendly and other campers are good about keeping their dogs on a leash. There's a boat ramp and a nice walkway to the "beach." There's a few picnic tables that I saw people enjoying their lunch at. It's fairly quiet and during the day since everyone seems to be on the water. Everyone respects quiet time at 10pm so it was a pleasant experience!

There are lots of pavilions and plenty of bathrooms. I've come here a few times over the years for the 4th of July, and even though it's probably one of the busiest days here, there's always plenty of room on the beach for everyone. The parking lot here is another story. They have extremely limited parking in their main lot, and then some over flow parking across the street. If you're coming on a holiday weekend or probably just a weekend in general, it's important to get here early. We had part of our group get there around 9am and they got one of the last spots in the main spot. We got there around 10:15am and were able to park in the overflow across the street, but once that's full you CANNOT park on the road, you'll get towed or ticketed, as we witnessed happen to many people on the 4th. A little ways up the road there is a pull off to park in, however you have to walk along the highway to get back to the state park. We've done it before, and it's not ideal. There's a gorgeous hike here to Chair Rock - I found a trail guide for the hike from Girl on a Hike's blog and it's a steep but VERY rewarding hike. When I did it a few years ago, no one else was there, and the views are absolutely stunning.

Lots of ducks were out with the little babies. Looks like there's a little fun area with rides for kids and food. It wasn't open for the season looks like. A little ways down was a big aviary with over 300 hundred birds, all kinds of species. Not sure what the admission price was since we didn't go in but we saw lots of families entering. We didn't get to explore the whole park, it was so big. It's a great place to picnic but watch for duck poop on the grass!

Came here early in the morning for a bird watching walk. It was a gorgeous place to be able to see…read morethe sunrise through the trees and the Mountain View while also having a very easy to walk path alongside water that was paved and wide. In terms of wildlife, they had a small pond at the parking area, which had tons of ducks and I'm pretty sure I also saw a pica which was a first for me. It looked like they also had bathrooms as well as a seating area. I was surprised at how clean everything was and maintained the paved trail was. I definitely recommend coming here for a walk or a run as I felt very safe even by myself at 6am For my birders: There's a pretty good number of species out there, including lesser gold, finches, black Chin, hummingbird, Rufous hummingbird, and others (see photos for an August visit)

At first I just thought this was a trailhead for the Jordan River Parkway Trail. And yes, that's…read moreprobably what a lot of the traffic is about. It's a good place to hop on, and you can go north or south as the trail will take you back under Winchester Street when you park on the north side. But actually, it's more than just a parking lot launching off point. They actually have a small park here, with a rentable pavilion, restrooms, a small playground, tables, BBQs, and as you're close to the Jordan River, you can launch a canoe here, too. There's not a ton of grass, but enough for the kids to run around. However, you should be aware that there's a small diversion of the river to a pond/flow sort of situation in the midst of the park so you won't want to let the kiddos wander too far from where you can keep an eye on them. Once you get too far from Winchester, the trees get a little more sparse, but there's good shade coverage here for those hot summer days. For me, though, it's most enjoyable in the shoulder months when the foliage is turning or in the spring when you just have to get out and take a long walk.

There are quite a few trails and pathways that lead to the north side of Utah lake and I've seen people frequent them. I wouldn't recommend the pond for swimming , but it's great for some casual fishing and watching ducks swim around. There are lots of shaded bench areas as well and also areas I've seen people set up hammocks to relax. Quite easy to get to and free street parking. A nice little getaway from the hustle and bustle of Saratoga, Lehi and American Fork.

This is a review for the hiking trails starting on the northeast side of the main parking lot…read more The trail offers beautiful views during the whole trip. It is a well maintained trail using soft, tan colored dirt, so traction will not be an issue. The first half of the trail does not offer much coverage, so prepare appropriate sunblock as needed. Later you will hike a well-shaded area that is just great for water breaks and resting away from the heat. Trail is partially dog friendly and gets narrow as you head south. You will run into the watershed and want to hike on to enjoy the beautiful jagged cliffs and small canyon. However it is private property so you want be able access it.

There you will find a children's playground, tennis courts, restrooms, shade and a nice grassy play area. Make use of the shaded picnic tables for a lunch. There is also water fountain and a path for children to ride bicycles on. Next time you go on a local picnic with your children, try Golden Hills Park. Plus, if you bring your dog, they have bags to scoop the poop up. The park was clean.
