Most courses are obnoxious with where their greens fee pricing is and in terms of the ROI you get commensurate to course conditions. The area at different times had multiple, what I would call, value play courses but over the past few years things have changed. Tumble Brook closed. Willow Brook closed. Bethlehem Municipal's 9 hole course (no way I'll ever call that a golf club) is a dump and over run with carts. The last man standing is Sawmill. Below is what you're getting into: www.sawmillgolfcourse.com/course-information I've played here a ton this year. Time for the good and bad. Good: Pricing is super cheap. After 3pm it's $15 for a round. Can't beat that anywhere. Overall, tee times are easy to come by. Open year round. No holes are super intimidatingly long. Bad: Course conditions are all over place. Several holes/tees are still decent, lush and green even with the lack of rain this year, while others are near impossible to get a tee in the ground (#7 & #8 currently). Pace of play here can be a major issue. Even when they have rangers here, they're a joke. Either smoking in the parking lot or hanging out at #1 but never getting on to the course to try and undo any logjams. I've done 18 here (always walking - never with a cart - weekdays only) in a touch over three hours and it's also ballooned to around five hours. With that said, are any of the holes here that hard? Not really. No extreme doglegs or water and what sand they have is minimally maintained and plays like hitting off the parking lot asphalt. The only issue here would be elevation. The course is set on a hillside and certain holes like 5, 6, 14 and 15 have some healthy incline to them. Of course not, but you're also not paying for a five star course either. To a degree, it's honestly stupid to complain when you're paying $15 or $20. Nothing here is that bad. The fairways aren't well groomed, in places are plain dirt. In many areas the fairways were like playing from the first cut of rough at better coarses, and sections of some of the greens are like wash boards and unplayable. With the price increases, there are nearby coarses, competitive in price, that are nearly pristine and provide a far more enjoyable playing experience. Unfortunately first the price, Sawmill has become a waste of money.

Then there is Jack's restaurant to go to after you're done. Variety of food and drink. They are known for their pizza which is NY Style with a floppy crust. We split up a pizza with pepperoni and it was devoured quickly. Nice bar with plenty of seating. Parking is spacious particularly at the lower end. They have a driving range and 2- practice putting greens. Greens were moderately fast today. Allentown Muni is a busy course. Fun to play. Challenging. Enjoy!

This is a 9-hole course owned by Upper Saucon Township that was designed by the renowned Donald…read moreRoss. The township condemned it in the early 2000s to save it from becoming a McMansion development. The first 3-4 holes are wide open and not too interesting. Some lack visual "definition" so you don't really know where you are supposed to be hitting to on some shots. These holes also have large transmission power lines running through them. (Local rule - ball hitting power lines/poles can be replayed, no penalty.) However, the stretch from #5 through #9 is very solid, and I really enjoyed them. It actually seemed like the first 4 holes were by a different designer or added on later, since they are different in character from the last 5, but that is not the case. All greens are small and can be very challenging, especially if your approach shot lands above the hole. There are only maybe 3 or 4 bunkers on the entire course. It seems like the landing area on #7 probably gets very swampy after rain. The whole course was in pretty good condition, no complaints there. Each hole has two sets of tees for each color, so that the holes can be played differently the second time around on a 18-hole round. It is cheap to play. I paid $14 to walk 9 holes on a weekend afternoon. The course's webpage lists rates from 2006, but they are pretty much the same now. I don't know how crowded it gets during peak times, but I was one of about 6 people on the entire course when I was there. The "clubhouse" has a bar/snack shop. A very friendly guy was operating that and working as golf cashier/starter.

I went to Joe's one rainy day to see what it is like to hit golf balls in a simulator. As soon as…read moreI walked in the place Joe greeted me and made me feel welcome. Before long I was hitting balls onto a simulated driving range and seeing the results of every swing in several different measures such as distance and launch angle and spin etc. I hit a lot of balls in my hour there and realized some of the ways I could improve my swing. Joe emailed me the reports from my session so I could study the results more carefully. I've been playing for over 30 years and never shot under 80. I had several 81's over the years but could never break 80 UNTIL; I went to Joe's a couple of times. The month following my first experience at Joe's I have shot under 80 six times within a month including a 74 (2 over par). The improvement stems from all of the things I realized and figured out at Joe's. I can't tell you how much I appreciate what Joe's Golf Simulator has done to my game. Thanks Joe!!!

Afterwards, Joe sent me two file formats of my data. The CSV format was great since it opened in Excel which allowed me to manipulate/organize the data. I would definitely recommend Joe's Golf Simulator. I did not get a chance to try the golf course he had, maybe next time.
