(Maybe at some point I'll update with pictures to make this a bit more well-rounded, but for now,…read morethis is good enough.) Nothing I love more in life than being the contrarian and finding/enjoying the quirky things that few others do. In terms of a local golf course, Willow Brook checks all of the boxes. The course is located on/shares space with a horse farm. Back in the day it was a traditional 18 hole course, but the configuration has been modified to 9 with the rest of the land being turned into a housing development that is still actively being built by the 8th green & 9th tee. If you look at the map on Yelp, which is of course nicked from Google, it does a poor job explaining the simple basic of how you even get to the course unless you go to the satellite tab. You're either heading down Howertown Road and then going on to at times, basically a single lane drive that snakes through some trees and past a few homes to the parking area or you can ignore the road closed signs on Willowbrook Road and enter via Sappho Cody Lane. The parking is on some grass by a horse competition area. From there you walk down Joe Cody Lane to the shack where you pay. A few randoms: Current hours are 10-4 daily. $20 for 9 or $30 for 18 and it's cash only - all walk with no carts. Not uncommon to find the shack where you're supposed to pay be unmanned with a note taped to one of the sliding glass doors to find them on the course and pay then. So far, I paid once when the guy stopped to say hello as he was mowing the fairway grass and the other time a different guy was doing some work on the green at #4. Three par 3's that start in the 130 yard range up to the two par 5's that go to the mid to upper 400's. Nothing is terribly difficult if you can, lol, keep it relatively straight. The thing I love more than anything is the angle of them not having carts because that keeps the crowds a-way and that is what I'm looking for. The two times I've been here, counting myself, I haven't seen ten people in total out playing (chef's kiss on that one). The course is what you would expect for the price. I'm no pro so I'm not looking for much past a cheap price. To me the fairways and greens are in good enough shape. The only thing they gave up on years ago are the sand traps. They're basically concrete slabs with vegetation growing in them. Also, if you're willing to dig around a bit, plenty of balls in the tall grass and by the creek area that people gave up on. For everyone one I lose, I usually find two. Yeah, this place is odd and quirky and some will be turned off by the no carts but to me, it's beautiful and quiet. As long as the crowds don't suddenly start swarming here during the week, I'm all in for the foreseeable future. willowbrook9.com/

There's a beautiful patio which has a great view of the course. So relaxing you feel like your out in the country. We ate inside due to the humidity but would choose to sit outside on a cooler day. So nice to know we have a beautiful place to go for lunch right in our backyard!

Ever since the notorious C.O.V.I.D., golf has had a major resurgence. One could say that I'm…read moretalking about in terms of interest, but what I'm really talking about is the pricing. Most courses are obnoxious with where their greens fee pricing is and in terms of the ROI you get commensurate to course conditions. The area at different times had multiple, what I would call, value play courses but over the past few years things have changed. Tumble Brook closed. Willow Brook closed. Bethlehem Municipal's 9 hole course (no way I'll ever call that a golf club) is a dump and over run with carts. The last man standing is Sawmill. Below is what you're getting into: www.sawmillgolfcourse.com/course-information I've played here a ton this year. Time for the good and bad. Good: Pricing is super cheap. After 3pm it's $15 for a round. Can't beat that anywhere. Overall, tee times are easy to come by. Open year round. No holes are super intimidatingly long. Bad: Course conditions are all over place. Several holes/tees are still decent, lush and green even with the lack of rain this year, while others are near impossible to get a tee in the ground (#7 & #8 currently). Pace of play here can be a major issue. Even when they have rangers here, they're a joke. Either smoking in the parking lot or hanging out at #1 but never getting on to the course to try and undo any logjams. I've done 18 here (always walking - never with a cart - weekdays only) in a touch over three hours and it's also ballooned to around five hours. With that said, are any of the holes here that hard? Not really. No extreme doglegs or water and what sand they have is minimally maintained and plays like hitting off the parking lot asphalt. The only issue here would be elevation. The course is set on a hillside and certain holes like 5, 6, 14 and 15 have some healthy incline to them. If you come, you can either call for tee times or go here: foreupsoftware.com/index.php/booking/20706/5485#/teetimes Is Sawmill a five star course? Of course not, but you're also not paying for a five star course either. To a degree, it's honestly stupid to complain when you're paying $15 or $20. Nothing here is that bad. If you want better, plenty of areas course that will be happy to soak you for many times more than what SM charges but won't have the fun and interesting quirks this place has. Good Enough.

The fairways aren't well groomed, in places are plain dirt. In many areas the fairways were like playing from the first cut of rough at better coarses, and sections of some of the greens are like wash boards and unplayable. With the price increases, there are nearby coarses, competitive in price, that are nearly pristine and provide a far more enjoyable playing experience. Unfortunately first the price, Sawmill has become a waste of money.

Quick take on the round played yesterday…read more Set up: Head to their website, add in date, time and number of players. From there it's the odd thing of where you cannot pay for your round in advance, only a nuisance convenience fee and then the rest is due at the course. Speaking of nickel and dime nuisance fees; on the site it does say that the tax is not included but nowhere until you get to the pro shop does it mention anything about a surcharge for card usage. That would have been useful information to have had in advance. theclubatmorganhill.com/online-tee-times/ We played on a weekday afternoon and overall the course was wide-open. One twosome a few holes ahead and another twosome a few holes behind. We started fifteen minutes early and went door to door in three hours and ten minutes. Let's talk about course conditions. Not good. Most of the tee boxes are chewed up and in bad shape. Your choices to tee up are either an almost thick scruffy scrub grass or into tons of divots filled with sand. Fairways have a lot of brown in them and are fast due to being very dry combined with sloped. The rough is well, rough. Very dense and very thick, Super easy to lose balls that on many other courses would be easily find-able. Most of the greens on the front 9 are nice but a couple on the back are not. A nice bumpy-chop-roll over some rough spots. The course design is interesting. The fairways are definitely narrow and most are slanted. While a few greens are very small, a few are cavernous with multiple drops/turns/undulations but overall they play slow. There is a hole or two with water but it never came into play for us. A few gimmick holes with blind tee shots. #18 & #14 with upward elevation or #12 with extreme downward descent (169 from the whites and a soft 9 or a PW might be more than enough club on this one). To me, is this a tough course? So-So. We opened up putting for par on the first four holes with little issue. Are there some difficult holes? Most definitely, yes. The par 5's of #5 and #13 are to put it mildly, hard. Weekdays after 4pm will set you back $40 (plus fees if you pay with a card and use their website). Is that fair for this course? Overall, yeah, it's not bad. Is that the best use of your discretionary golf money? Maybe/maybe not. You could play after 3pm twice at Sawmill for the same price. Pocono Club or Jack Frost are superior courses and either can be played for the same price as Morgan, or a few bucks less. Glad I came and finally played here. It was a nice one to check off the local area list of places that I've been meaning to play for a long time. Although, I think for the foreseeable future I'm good on not playing here for a bit. Nothing wrong with the course, but personally, nothing compels me to want to return either. Three stars all the way.

We were met with conversation about "how difficult this course is" and "it's extremely important to keep pace". All of this is normal, however he reinforced multiple times that we MUST keep pace and was repeating with a specific tone. As 2 members in our group left the pro shop to grab carts I was paying...he mentioned YET AGAIN how imperative it is to not lag behind and because I've never played here, he seemed very concerned. This all left a bad taste in my mouth but it gets better... after getting our cart I decided to use the rest room before starting out. After leaving the restroom the same pro shop attendant stopped me, "have you ever golfed before??" I said yes... as I golf regularly with my boyfriend (I happened to not have my clubs with me since I was visiting and not from the area). This was all followed by "well since you've never played here you really need to be on top of your timing" all of this while I was with the only other girl in our group. I'm not one to jump to conclusions but it was very clear that because I was a young woman who didn't appear like a professional I wasn't worthy of this course. I will NEVER play here again. Funny enough the entire round we were waiting for the groups infront of us because THEY were not keeping pace... While the course was pretty the overall experience was completely tainted by these interactions. Let's stop with the stereotypes and attitude!

Also fine and understandable except that in the voicemail that was left to me about canceling my refund, no instruction was for how to go about getting my refund for my tee time. If I didn't check my bank account I would not have noticed that a refund wasn't issue and wouldn't have known to investigate. After making several attempts to call the pro shop over the course of two days, I was finally told I had to contact golf now (again that part is fine) but I was not given any sort of number to contact them, I was essentially just left to it. After scrolling golf now's website and not coming across any sort of contact info I called the pro shop again, the manager was somewhat argumentative and confrontational. All I needed was a contact number for golf now which he did provide. However this entire fiasco could have been easily and pleasantly avoided had he provided information to me in the voicemail he left me stating that my tee time was being cancelled due to weather, I would have to contact golf now for my refund and had he provided the number then. Overall extremely frustrating experience and I will not be golfing here again.
