Ever since the notorious C.O.V.I.D., golf has had a major resurgence. One could say that I'm talking about in terms of interest, but what I'm really talking about is the pricing. Most courses are obnoxious with where their greens fee pricing is and in terms of the ROI you get commensurate to course conditions. The area at different times had multiple, what I would call, value play courses but over the past few years things have changed. Tumble Brook closed. Willow Brook closed. Bethlehem Municipal's 9 hole course (no way I'll ever call that a golf club) is a dump and over run with carts. The last man standing is Sawmill. Below is what you're getting into: www.sawmillgolfcourse.com/course-information I've played here a ton this year. Time for the good and bad. Good: Pricing is super cheap. After 3pm it's $15 for a round. Can't beat that anywhere. Overall, tee times are easy to come by. Open year round. No holes are super intimidatingly long. Bad: Course conditions are all over place. Several holes/tees are still decent, lush and green even with the lack of rain this year, while others are near impossible to get a tee in the ground (#7 & #8 currently). Pace of play here can be a major issue. Even when they have rangers here, they're a joke. Either smoking in the parking lot or hanging out at #1 but never getting on to the course to try and undo any logjams. I've done 18 here (always walking - never with a cart - weekdays only) in a touch over three hours and it's also ballooned to around five hours. With that said, are any of the holes here that hard? Not really. No extreme doglegs or water and what sand they have is minimally maintained and plays like hitting off the parking lot asphalt. The only issue here would be elevation. The course is set on a hillside and certain holes like 5, 6, 14 and 15 have some healthy incline to them. Of course not, but you're also not paying for a five star course either. To a degree, it's honestly stupid to complain when you're paying $15 or $20. Nothing here is that bad. If you want better, plenty of areas course that will be happy to soak you for many times more than what SM charges but won't have the fun and interesting quirks this place has. Nice layout. All tee boxes are hard as stone, I had to stomp my tee in for my 3 wood. Everything is over grown. Seems to be understaffed and under maintained. Fairways (I'm guessing) are mowed once a week and have 8 different types of grass growing. Greens have all the same grass which is a positive. A negative for the greens is they mow them every 2 days, i suppose we chose the day before they mow to book a tee time. read more

Sawmill used to be a decent value for what it is. While the staff has always been friendly, coarse conditions used to be, you get what you pay for. The fairways aren't well groomed, in places are plain dirt. In many areas the fairways were like playing from the first cut of rough at better coarses, and sections of some of the greens are like wash boards and unplayable. With the price increases, there are nearby coarses, competitive in price, that are nearly pristine and provide a far more enjoyable playing experience. Unfortunately first the price, Sawmill has become a waste of money. read more

This is a great course. Very hilly and I only played the front 12 holes. I jumped on at 6 pm and walked it with a pull cart The holes are nicely laid out. Difficult because on par 4s and par 5s are a lot uphill I easily added an extra 7 or more strokes because I couldn't adjust to greens. They play slow and feel uphill. My golf app seemed to be off on approach yardage So I went down a club The ball bounced I believe to harder grass around green Holes weren't necessarily long ( I'd say average is 330) but not wide I wasn't spraying a lot of balls Hard to see ball at times when not on fairway Great read more

I haven't been here since a few years ago. But the best part was golfing with my family.

I am a business owner myself so I really hate doing this. I do my best to avoid leaving reviews like this until I feel like it's absolutely crucial for me to let others know about a terrible experience that happened to me. My hope is that it won't happen to others or the owners step up and choose to do the right thing for their customers... I go to this course because it's one of the few courses that offer year round golf in the area. Their carts are extremely old and dangerous. They don't have windshields or anything worth the money they charge but that's only the start of my terrible experience. The last time I went there, the cart I used had a loose buckle to the strap that is supposed to secure my golf bag to the cart. Due to the mal function of this buckle, my bag fell off the cart resulting in my sims 3 wood breaking. The head of the club completely detached from the shaft when the shaft cracked in two pieces. I told the "manager" that I was very unhappy about this. He took my information down and told me that he would pass it along to the owner, Nancy, for her to reach out to me. As I figured, she never got in touch with me. I called several times and explained this issue. They were aware of the situation when I spoke to whoever was working but they had no solution for me as they told me that the owner was no where to be found. After several calls, they began to treat me very rude as if I was a bother to them. It's been over a week and still no call or resolution. I would have preferred some honesty at the very lease rather than getting the run around and being ignored. It really makes me feel like a fool for giving them my continuous business. I wasn't looking for anything extreme or to take advantage out of this situation. I'm sure they didn't intend for this to happen but they should take responsibility for their equipment and the damages that it caused. Even just a few free rounds would have made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. After all I lost a $300+ due to their negligence. I understand this is no where near a prestigious golf course in the area however if it is your business, it is your responsibility to ensure safe and proper working equipment to your patrons. If you do not there should be accountability for the results there of. If you spend top dollar and value your golf equipment the way I do, I advise you don't risk it by giving this place your business... read more

I attended a Lions event yesterday at The sawmill bar and grill. And although the waitresses and event where great were great, they misinformed me on a price of an item. Once I was billed I informed the manager of the mistale. When I asked her if she was going to still charge me for it she said yes. Then she acted like because I had a gift certificate there was no reason to fix the price. Then she insulted me and asked me why sir, did you lose your job or something sarcastically?. ( Which was uncalled for and very disrespectful) As I talked to her she put her hand in my face and I asked her politely to please remove her hand and she denied putting her hand in my face. I have a very good reputation as a review representative for Google and this is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. I asked her to give me the owner's information and she said she's the highest manager and just told me to email the company. I'm asking that the owners please contact me as soon as possible. Hackers delight. Fairly inexpensive, short course (several par 4s under 300 yds) with few traps (most of which are 50/50 sand & stone) and water only on the bizarre 375 yd par 5 13th hole ( which has a power line running down one side of the fairway and telephone poles down the other side, plus 4 swampy-like creeks crossing the fairway at various points). The greens are generally in decent shape and a few are pretty interesting and challenging. The fairways are not in such great shape; I've heard that a year-round member rule is being allowed to move a ball in a fairway up to 6 inches in any direction. Pleasant staff. Some recent improvements, primarily paving the parking lot and some cart paths. One caution - the straps on the back of most carts are very frayed and come loose over the course of a round; check them frequently so you don't lose your bag along the way. read more

Great Value. I have only played a few golf courses in my career but so far this was the best value. The after 6:00 pm special was 6 dollars but I am sure this is a seasonal thing. I played 11 holes but waited on every hole for the person in front of me so it got too dark to play 18. Greens were a soft sod, grass had few divots and few crab grass. Some holes seemed identical to previous ones, and there is an electric pole on hole 10 I believe. read more

Wife and I learned to play golf here. For $$$ is worth the price. You can go around the course as many times as you can for one green fee. Food was low cost and good. Folks and staff are friendly. Could pave the driveway. Not a fan of gravel roads. Club House is vastly improved. Plus the owner built the course over many years. Awesome :) read more
