Worth Browsing, but I'd Skip the Food Willi's Sausage is part meat market, part general store and part sausage diner--and unfortunately, it feels like it hasn't quite decided what it wants to be in the middle of a very tourist-focused market. We stopped in specifically hoping to get a good German bratwurst. What we received was much more like a hot-dog-style sausage than what we would consider a traditional bratwurst. It was good enough, but it definitely wasn't the authentic German brat we were hoping to find. It tasted more like something you might purchase prepackaged from a grocery-store deli than a fresh brat from a specialty sausage shop. We also ordered a pickle, which was actually very flavorful. It was served whole in a Ziploc bag, which was a little unexpected, and while the flavor was good, the skin was extremely tough. The biggest disappointment was the disconnect between the meat market and the food being served. With the sausages and other products displayed in the meat cases, based on their in store sign, we expected something fresh and house-made. Instead, our meal gave us the impression that many of the prepared ingredients may be purchased premade rather than being the same type of homemade products the market appears to specialize in. We sat at a quaint, little table where we were served after we ordered at the counter. The staff was nice but not overly friendly. There's an opportunity here to make the food counter a showcase for what's being sold in the butcher cases--fresh sausages cooking, great smells filling the store and customers getting to taste the products before taking some home. That would make the whole concept come together. As it is, I'm not sure Willi's has a firm grasp on its identity yet. I'd still stop in while exploring Frankenmuth to browse the store and meat market, but based on our experience, I'd skip eating here and look elsewhere for a good German read more

Willi's Sausage - In house sign showcasing Home Made Bratwurst - Meat Shops Near Me - Frankenmuth, Michigan

Willi's Sausage is a Frankenmuth staple, and we look forward to stopping in any time we pass through Frankenmuth. And although they have remodeled and have lost some of the "old school charm" we really like what they have done here! We were in town for Winterfest and were craving an "authentic" brat at a fair price and this place never disappoints. In the old days you could sit outside under a warming tent, no more... But what you can do now is sit inside at a table or the countertop, we are counter people! The staff are friendly and if you are looking for specialty sausage and all things related, this is the place for you. They also have adult beverages available to enjoy or take with. The brat was really good, with kraut and their own sauce which is a nice touch! read more

We stopped in Willi's for the first time this weekend and ordered some hot dogs for lunch. Great selection of quality sausages. I picked up a few summer sausages while we were there. I really like the jalepeno & cheddar but the hickory is also excellent. I haven't tried the original yet but I'm sure I will sometime this week. Plenty of parking next to the building and friendly staff. read more

Cozy place that has a lot of choices on sausages, jerky, bacon and different pickled vegetables for sale. We bought two different types of sausage: the Rueben sausage and the bratwurst. The cashier was most gracious in giving us ideas on how to cook and eat it with condiments. She also offered us ice to keep our purchases cold on the way back. We also bought sauerkraut and pickled vegetables. Once brought home and opened, I was introduced to the most fresh and delicious sauerkraut I've ever had in my life! The sausages were a close second and my only regret is I should have bought more sausages and sauerkraut! Make the walk up the hill. So worth it! read more

We come here just before we leave frankenmuth to get land jaeger. We have been coming here for 16 years. Mom and pop places are the best!!

Willi's Sausage has a ton of variety when it comes to sausages, cured meats and jerky. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and offered a few of their samples, which helped us decide what to buy. We seriously evaluated our options in all the cold cases and ended up spending over $330 without any remorse. Being our first time here, our experience was so positive we are certain will come back in the future. The only tiny negative I have to report is that after we visited the Frankenmuth Visitors Center, we found out that our purchase at Willi's would have more than qualified us for a large cooler bag they were giving away. We didn't have the coupon at the time, but it struck me as a little cheap of Willi's not to just offer it to us. Hmmm. We were visiting during SnowFest and Willi's was serving brats and hotdogs in a tent outside the front door. I have to say, their brats with sauerkraut and Willi's mustard was out of this world! read more

I enjoyed a Reuben Sandwich at Willi's Smokehaus & Deli and it was, by far, the best Reuben I've ever had. The new owners renovated the business from a store to a store/deli, offering delicious sandwiches, beer, soda , prepackaged German meats and delightful displays of various items. A perfect place for a perfect sandwich! read more

Get your brats here and then some. Lots of assortment of brats and made from beef, pork and chicken and feta too. They carry beef jerky and a sweet turkey jerky too. A decent assortment of cheeses. Plastic containers of a variety of pickles and pickled veggies. They have a shelf of your classic German brand vinegars and kraut. read more

I spent all day drinking in Frankenmuth. I was about one wine sample from yaking when we saw a sign at Willi's for hotdogs. That $3 microwave hotdog saved my life. Because of Willi's I was able to rally for the rest of the night. Thanks Willi's! read more

If you enjoy more varieties of sausages than you can count, then Willi's Sausages is the place to stop when in Frankenmuth. When you enter, you immediately fall into a line around the center of the store which is one giant butcher counter. Most of the store's products are behind the counter and one of their sausage experts will guide you around the counter while assembling your order and answering questions. Willi's is in Frankenmuth and is subject to high traffic in the store like any other tourist destination. If you want a more quiet visit, shop at opening during the week. In addition to sausages, they have fine chocolates by the piece or make your own gift box. Try the sauerkraut, it's great. They also offer a bratwurst sandwich all day long. Willi's does not sell alcoholic beverages. The store is bright, clean and appealing with an adorable German charm that only Frankenmuth can offer. Prices run $6-$12 per pound on average and they do offer sales. Shop in store or online for pick up or shipping to home. So whatever way you choose to shop, just enjoy these delicious treats. read more

Willi's Sausage - Entrance to Willi's - Meat Shops Near Me - Frankenmuth, Michigan

My wife and I just spent a weekend in Frankenmuth. While we've both been there before it had been at least 30 years. While walking around we came upon Willi's Sausage shop. I've never seen this many varieties of sausage in my life! They had various varieties of Bratwurst (Cooked, Smoked Beer), Knockwurst, Weisswurst, Bockwurst, Mettwurst; Polish Sausage, Italian Sausage, Fresh and smoked Kielbasa, Ukranian sausage, German hot dogs, regular hot dogs. There were spicy sausages such as cajun and Jalapeno and cheese. There were sausages made from various game like venison and elk. Many varieties of Hunters sausage, bacon, Jerky... There are so many that its a bit overwhelming. Fortunately a very nice lady took the time to tell us about all the sausages we asked about as well as a history of the business that goes back over 100 years. Also, fortunately, they sell several sampler packs. These sampler packs have 6 sausages in three different varieties, two of each. For example there is a spicy sampler with a spicy sausage and cheese, jalapeno and cheese, and Cajun sausage. They make 5 or 6 different sampler packs giving you an opportunity to try many different types without having to buy a full package of one type. The 6 pack of sausages generally range anywhere from around $8 to $12 so very fairly priced in my opinion. We bought 4 different sampler packs, a pack of beer brats, a pack of Ukrainian sausage, and a pack of Kielbasa. We also bought a bottle of their brat sauce. We had them for dinner today and between my wife and I and our two sons we each had two in I think 5 different varieties. Everything was fantastic! I personally had the smoked brat and cooked brat. They are meaty and not mushy or rubbery, as with some lesser quality sausages. You can taste the different spices and the smoking. Everyone loved theirs and were anxious to try the rest. We all liked the brat sauce which is kind of a cross between mustard, ketchup, with horseradish, onion and other flavors. It's unlike any other sauce I've tried. I cannot say enough about the wonderful products from Willi's. First rate all the way. I'm glad it's only about an hour and 20 minute drive because I think we're going to have to plan a return trip soon! read more

Willi's, huh? Think about it. Yeah, worth five stars? You betcha'! Two for two (visits over three-years) and I think this is one of the best sausage shops I've seen, definitely nothing like this in California. What I like is the vast selection and generous samples. Additionally, they have everything you could want for a delicious sammie, picnic or charcuterie plate. How about those mustards? Spicy sweet Bavarian anyone? I really recommend the varieties of landsjaeger, absolutely delicious. I wish I didn't live so far away because all those fresh sausages begged to be grilled. Perhaps some day it'll work out, I forgot to ask if they shipped but it's still fun to fantasize about all that pork! Visit Willi's when the mood strikes. read more

So good, and I recommend getting the sauerkraut! Tried several of the sausages too, and they were all awesome. We will definitely be back here again and again. Great service! read more

Hot sandwich brats are served in hot dog buns that get soggy immediately. Very bland flavor even with "Willi's sauce and sauerkraut." Giant pickles are also bland. We are surprised this place has such great reviews. The customer service was poor, we weren't offered samples. Our first stop in Frankenmuth was a bust! read more

We visited Willi's for the first time in September and we absolutely loved it. It's set up in a very easy way- nothing was crowded or hard to get to. There were a TON of samples- of which we partook in many. Delicious sausages and brats and frankfurters, oh MY! I was so glad we had the foresight to bring a cooler- we spent so much money at Willi's they gave us ice for our cooler. That's great service. The young man at the counter was very friendly and conversational. We were asked several times if we needed help, and everyone was willing to assist. We will stop at Willi's every time we're in Frankenmuth- because we really enjoyed all the food we had. Excellent flavors and quality meats! Suggestion- the only thing that would make Willi's better is if you had German Potato Salad for sale. We had to stop at another sausage shop for my potato salad. While this store didn't even pale in comparison to Willi's, they did have the potato salad I called all around town for. I highly recommend Willi's- great food, service, and prices makes this a Must-see in Frankenmuth! read more

Wow.. this place is a gem. They make their own sausage and the selection is unbelievable. I have never seen so many different kinds, I wanted to try everything. Willis and the clock shop were my favorite places in Frankenmuth, they made the trip worth the 6 hour round trip drive. read more

Loved stopping here for fresh sausages, brats & more! Willi's had a much better selection than the other place we stopped at in town and you have lots and lots of choices! We ended up buying some bratwurst and some beef jerky freshly made. They had a nice selection of beef jerky, tons of choices of sausages that you will not be disappointed. Service was outstanding, as it was early enough in the morning, so they were super attentive. Prices are reasonable for fresh meat. read more

This is the best little store ever! My husband is from MI and here when he was little. Last year, we went to bring in the holidays. What a great shop! They have every sausage, cheese, etc that you can imagine. And they'll let you sample away! The staff is ridiculously nice. Side note-my husband was obsessed with a can koozie he got from here. He lost it somewhere and almost cried...they sent me a new one with a Christmas card!!! read more

The sign on the door says "worth the walk" and I agree! A little bit of a walk up a hill from the main Frankenmuth attractions, this place is definitely worth a visit! We tried a number of delicious samples of sausages, jams, jerky's, relishes, salsa's and more, and each one was more delicious than the last. My favourite was the cherry salsa, and a bacon and onion relish, I kind of regret not buying a bottle! We did get a couple of hot bratwurst sausages to go and these were topped with some delicious sauce which I believe is a mixture of ketchup and mustard and some other items and sauerkraut. The sausage was fantastic, I inhaled this thing while walking down the street, it was so good! The sauce is perfect and their sauerkraut is the best i've ever had. The sausage itself is flavourful and juicy and it was a perfect small lunch. The sausages were only around $3 and some change. I think for two it was $7.50 or so, it's a good deal for what you get, especially in a touristy area. I do think that some of the product is a bit expensive. The jerky and sausage prices are pretty reasonable, usually those can get quite pricey as well and this is obviously more premium product so I'd say those prices are fair. The salsa that I tried comes in a smaller jar and it was around $10 which for salsa is a bit expensive in my opinion, same with some barbecue sauces selling here for around $10 or more, but I suppose there's a bit of a novelty to this place and you can expect higher prices for just about everything. Overall this place is definitely worthwhile to check out, if you don't want to spend a lot of money, i'd recommend the bratwurst for lunch and while you're waiting, check out the many generous samples they have around the store. The meats, cheeses and sauces are all delicious! read more

I used to come to Frankenmuth as a kid for the chicken dinners back in the late 1960s. It was a treat to visit Frankenmuth again, taking my children along for the experience. We walked into Willi's and fell in love with the selection and quality of the sausages. We bought the Original Sampler and the Traditional Sampler packages. Wow, they were awesome and now I wish we would have bought more!! I wanted to buy some from their online store but they don't ship to the west coast. Our whole family thought the different sausages we ate were the best we've ever had. read more

Whenever we are in Frankenmuth, we stop here. I'm not sure why some people say they're pricey, I think they are about market. Far better than the places more in town where you can pay 20 bucks for a small bag of jerkey. I haven't tried everything here, but some of the standouts are the spicey cheese summer sausage and the hungarian. What makes this place special? Everything I've ever gotten has always been fresh. So forget about the other places in town, as far as sausage, beef sticks or jerkey goes. Pass them up and come here. You won't be disappointed. read more

This is a little north of the "downtown" area, that is the area near Bravarian Inn and Zehnder's. WOW what a huge selection of meats, if you want it they got it! Venison, moose, elk, even headcheese! I picked up a pack of sausage sticks and it was delicious, while in the store they had samples of various types of sausage...man I don't remember what it was called but they were great! After many many trips to Frankenmuth, this was my first visit to this store, which I made on the recommendation of a new friend of mine, I am glad she did because I would have never ventured away from the "regular" places we usually go! I will go back! read more

Good, like really good, meats and sauces They have a "Willi's sauce" this is really worth buying a bottle of and putting on burgers, fries, hot dogs, a spoon and just eating it because it's delicious, or any number of other foods The service was really friendly and they offer samples before you buy something you are unfamiliar with This is a real sausage and meat store, not some kitschy garbage store like the other 95% of this little slice of tourist trap hell town Go here and get something that is actually authentic. You won't regret it read more

There has to be more than 100 different types of meats here, and a bunch of different cheeses. It's all priced very well, especially considering the location. It's very easy to walk to from any part of Main Street and worth it. I only got some smoked venison strips this time as I was visiting and nothing other than jerky would survive the trip home. The venison was very fresh and delicious, moist but not messy at all. There are loads of samples too. The horseradish sausage I sampled was great and didn't have an overpowing flavor like others I have tried. I would highly recommend Willie's. read more

On my first visit to Frankenmuth I decided that I wasn't leaving without some of their famous cheese and sausages. For cheese I went to the Cheese Haus and for my meat, I decided to come to Willi's instead of Kern's because of its location to my Bed and Breakfast and that the only review on Yelp seemed honest. I bought about a dozen different things here at Willi's and still have yet to try them all. I did try the elk and buffalo smokies which are great. I also cooked up some of their garlic festival brats with some pork and sauerkraut on an onion brat roll. Good flavor, cooks up nicely. Sort of plumps up a little so don't let the size fool you when you buy them out of the cooler. I also bought straight up brats, smoked port tenderloin, apple breakfast sausage, beer brats, knockwurst, and if I remember right, some wedding dogs and pickled bologna. Pricing is OK seeing that its a tourist town and homemade. There were samples so feel free to sample. I'll try Kern's next to get a true comparison. read more

You can pretty much get any kind of meat here, the staff was very friendly, and the selection was awesome. I got some spicy cheese summer sausage (where they do that at?!?) and two kinds of interesting cheese. I also liked that their prices were more reasonable than the other meat stores in the area. We will definitely stop here on our next trip. read more
