Becky saved the day! My son, Alan, was in and out with what felt like a new car after a very stressful morning in Stowe. He was there for a ski exam, but his car wouldn't start in his hotel parking lot. After waiting for a kind soul to give him a jump start, he unfortunately arrived 15 minutes late and wasn't able to take his exam. The only good thing about the day was the support he received at Willie's. Becky was incredible--she welcomed him in the moment he arrived. In less than an hour, they had replaced his battery, changed his wipers, and finished an oil change. The team was welcoming, professional, and gave him a great price. I went to Willie's on Thursday for an inspection and to have my snow tires switched out. When I made the appointment over the phone I wasn't told to bring anything so I drove in. The front desk lady told me to bring in my registration and proof of insurance. It was in my glove compartment and while I was digging for it the eponymous Willie pulled up beside me. He asked me what I was having done and I told him. He said to me, "Yup, no one's ever prepared." I said I was sorry and he said, "There's an old saying... Time is money." He said this with a good deal of contempt, a really solid burn as far as he was concerned. I was never told to have my registration and proof of insurance on hand. It WAS with me. Had Willie asked instead of assuming, I would have told him. And, Willie, if you're reading this NOW, word of advice, tell people ahead of time. It'll save you the energy of insulting them and sullying their view of your business. The front desk lady was nice enough and the work was done fine. I was definitely charged on the high end but, honestly, I wouldn't have thought twice about it had my interaction with Willie been better. When I got home I pulled the tires out of the car and Willie hadn't tied off any of the bags. I've NEVER been to a place where they don't tie off the bags. It felt like Willie's final F-U. Let's take this for what it is: I got my car inspected and the tires swapped out. It was on the high end but I wasn't gouged. I'm leaving a one-star review right now for the sole reason that Willie insulted me and genuinely seemed as though he doesn't respect his customers. After my interaction with him I wanted to get in my car and head off to someplace where they DO value their customers. Willie, if you're reading this, I promise you I'll never bring my car back to your shop. There's another saying, Willie, "keep the customer happy!" This customer was not kept happy...... read more

Didn't have the parts needed, even though advanced booked appointment. Rude and never going back. They left a greasy part, not from my car, on the front seat. I had to tell the mechanic to remove it. Had oil change done and when I was ready to go, I'm told the oil light will come on in 300 miles. It is in their job specifications to reset the oil notification from the dashboard. They were completely honest and told me it was a loose wheel! Tightened the lugs up. I had them change the oil while there. And drove off with an affordable outcome. Unfortunately, our Saab 9-5 was making a lot of noise so we brought our car over to see Willie. He took a look and said it wouldn't be safe to drive home to NH the next day. So we left our car for Willie to fix whatever. He wasn't sure if he would have to have the car until the next day. Sure enough, he showed up at our Inn later in the afternoon with our car, took us for a beautiful scenic drive for about 30 minutes. It was great since we didn't have our car for the day. He replace a U joint, charged us very little (we think) and we were able to drive home. What a great experience, great service, fun to be around Willie and his staff! Can't say enough good things about Willie's Village Auto! I was visiting Stowe from out of town and had trouble with my car starting. Took it to them at the recommendation of a triple A tow driver. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and went back to the mechanics right away to tell them my problem. She was very sympathetic to me being a 10 hour drive from home. They had me drive my car around, checked it, and fixed the problem right then and there, despite being busy during the start of snow tire season. Had the part in stock and was very reasonably priced. Even the mechanic was extremely kind and accommodating. Did not feel taken advantage of or scammed like you often do at dealership repairs. I was in Stowe for skiing and the windshield fluid hoses on my 150,000 Mile Volvo XC90 started leaking in a way I couldn't repair, and you need wiper fluid in winter, so, Willie fixed the problem in about 15 minutes and charged me a very reasonable price. My boyfriend and I were driving up to Stowe when our car got a flat tire on the highway. Even though they were closed since it was a Saturday and holiday weekend, we decided to give them a ring as the nearest open auto shop was 20 miles away and we weren't sure if the donut would make it especially since there was a storm coming. He just so happened to be working on a tractor trailer that needed to drive down to Florida that day so they graciously took us in as well as a few other disabled vehicles. As we were waiting, we found out that he had a dinner reservation that night for his birthday. Not only was the service impeccable and they got us back on the road in no time, Willie is truly a selfless, kind, and honest gem of a human being. My son was stuck with a dead battery and we didn't know how to help. I called the shop just before closing, and the owner called my son and was available to help him. It was a great relief to know that he would be cared for. Once the car was started (dead battery), the owner checked everything out to make sure it was just a battery problem. I was on a weekend vacation when my brakes stopped working !. I called Willie's and they immediately took me in (as soon as they opened) and quickly diagnosed. The mechanic seemed very expert and proceeded to fabricate a new brake line for me and re-fill the brake fluids. I was allowed to wait in the garage and watch the "surgery" because it was below 0 outside. All in all, after 2 hours and a very reasonable bill I was on the slopes by 10:30am!... and my car now stops! ;-) read more

We took one of the vehicles in our 4-car taxi fleet down to Willy's for brake pad replacements since the place we usually went to was closed (My husband had two bad experiences at Willy's when we first opened 5 years ago, so we hadn't continued our business relationship). He charged us $660 for unauthorized work on our car and then, when they refused our American Express, said they would not release the car to our employee who was waiting there unless they had immediate payment. On a Friday evening. When they took over an hour longer than they promised. I assured them I would drop a check off in an hour when I could get to a car and checkbook and since we were in a crunch with calls, already late for a call - but no, they decided to hold our vehicle hostage until someone could get another form of payment to him. They made us wait another 15 minutes while trying to reach my husband for a different corporate card. Terrible service and price gouging - never going back... We were up here skiing for the weekend and got back to our hotel at night the brakes started smoking and smelled really bad. We were leaving the next day and Willie's opened at 7 am the earliest mechanic around. So we got there at 7 called in because of COVID and they said they were pretty booked but would try to squeeze us in. We waited about an hour and a half and they took the car in. We waited a while longer and they called back said we needed new brakes and that it would take an hour and a half to two hours. We had a long drive so we had to get everything fixed. They took a half hour to fix everything. Thank god for Willie's! Highly recommend going here if you have car trouble. read more

5-stars easily. I first came here in the Spring of 1995. My car (a Volkswagen Jetta at the time) simply died.. with no explanation... while driving on the 100, I glided into the Fire-Station right before downtown Stowe with no engine running etc... My Buddy and I had driven from Burlington. The night before we had a bunch of beers to drink. We went to 3-Needs Taproom (the original). We were a bit banged up but doing ayight... We stood around my dead vehicle not knowin' what the hell to do (the intent was to go make some turns at Stowe). Ole Willie himself drives by, this is pre-cell phone days, he pulls up in his tow-truck, we chat for a bit... he was burning down a smoke... He actually didn't get out of the tow truck, he asked me to try and start the vehicle. Still while staying in his loud running tow truck. He said you might as well go skiing, call me in the afternoon. I gave him the keys and he drove away. Honestly I didn't know what to think. My friend and I were joking the whole time about Willie and his unique-ness. We grabbed the free trolley ride up to the mountain (back when the main lodge was on Mansfield side) and Spruce Peak was absolutely nothing.... That afternoon I called Willie from a pay-phone at the Stowe mountain lodge and he informed me he fixed the vehicle and replaced the fuel pump. We drove back to Burlington that evening and got trashed. Over 20-years later, February 2016.... Driving up to Stowe again. In my Toyota Tacoma... It was snowing. Somewhere during my journey the windshield wiper fluid thingy stopped blasting out fluid. This rapidly became a big, big deal... In that 1-it was snowing. 2-they were spraying salt on I-89. My visibility was affected big time. I had to pull over the side several times and do manual clean, because I could not see. I'm like f*ck, I'm tryin to have some fun now this b*llshit is draggin me down. Arrive at Stowe. Willie is still there. We roll up, I tell my story. He looked at it on-site / no appointment / pulled right in the garage. We chatted with him. Fixed it. 20-bucks. It simply doesn't get better than that. Willie is a stand-up guy. What a lifesaver! Willie's fixed a dangerous condition on my car while I was visiting Stowe from Boston. On a Thursday night I noticed my right rear wheel was giving off a burning smell and was extremely hot. Clearly something was wrong with the brake. After reading several reviews Thursday night of various auto repair shops in Stowe I took my car to Willie's at 7:30am Friday. They said they could work on it same day starting about 9:30am and immediately ordered a full break kit from auto supplier "just in case" they needed it. My car was finished and ready for me to pick at 10:30am. Wow! What great service. Willie told me the calipers were sticking so they replaced them. The brake pads were only half worn so did not need replacement. They used and charge me for only what was needed from the brake kit and sent the rest of the parts back to the supply house. I drove home to Boston at that end of the day and everything worked normally. Fast, reliable service, fair prices, friendly. Thank you, Willie and Becky! read more

We came to Stowe on a long weekend and much needed birthday vacation. After coming off the Mansfield toll road, we lost everything in our car due to the alternator/battery going out. We stopped at Madadashcar and the mechanic was less than accommodating and just told us to head to Willies as he slammed my hood and walked away. I am SO glad we did. As soon as we got there, Willie was on the phone with supply stores in Burlington trying to find us an alternator before the truck left for Stowe that day. Unfortunately, we didn't get it in time. Willie, himself, drove up there to grab it for us and worked on his day off to get us taken care of since we had to go back home to Maryland early that Monday. After he was finished, he insisted we stop back before we headed out of town for him to check it out one last time to be sure we were good for the 9 hour drive back home. He could of easily just told us no and that it would need to wait til the next business day but he went the extra mile and we cannot thank him enough for keeping the prices low enough so that we could still enjoy our vacation. read more

We have a Mercedes GL and lost power steering, etc right off the exit in Waterbury. At a loss, we did our best to get to his shop by the swimming hole. It's the kind of shop you'd find on "American Pickers" but when he diagnosed the issue (surpentine belt and pulley), the parts were on order in a flash. Long story short, the car was done in less than 12 hours and eliminated a TON of stress to our weekend. Not to mention he was about 50% of what the Mercedes crooks would have been. In town for a couple of days from South Carolina I was in immediate need for a tow to a local repair shop due to a major water leak on my Ford F150. I was concerned that the issue might not be able to be repaired the same day as I had to leave in the morning. When the tow truck dropped me at his shop Willie worked me right into his already busy day and diagnosed the problem as a busted heater hose. The customer service is excellent here and the work ethic of all the employees is some of the best I have seen in a local auto repair shop. After waiting for a couple of hours for the part to arrive the repair was made quickly at a very reasonable charge and I was on my way. I pulled in and after explaining our situuation the the owner Willie he pulled our van right in to one of his bays. Living in the Boston area, I found myself up in Stowe with my 2007 BMW 328xi which was making a loud unusual noise in the right rear. This was on Sunday. I asked the local hardware store who was the earliest open on Monday that they would recommend. They immediately said, "Willie's, across from The Swimming Hole. I was there at 7 immediately impressed with the size of the place - at least 4 bays, and Willie was there as advertised. He quickly diagnosed the problem as a broken rear shock, and we agreed the best was to pick a set up from the nearest BMW dealer in Burlington. He offered to have his local Burlington agent deliver same just after lunch, but I needed to get on the road so I went up and got them, and brought them back to Willie at 11:00. At 1:30 they called to say the car was ready - parts were $400 and he charged just over $100 for the install, which seems perfect. Willie has been around Stowe for sometime, well known, and upon meeting him you quickly realize he knows his stuff. Highly recommended. read more
