I had been hearing about this place from several co-workers, most of whom said this place was pretty good, or a must try, etc etc. well, I now know that my co-workers tastes are well... maybe not the best in the world... here's the thing... what satisfies one person in the food world may not satisfy another... and that's ok!.. so my approach to this review wasn't to convince you to try it or not.. it was more meant to be honest about the experience, despite the fact you may agree, or may not and love this place.. or hate it.
That said, i'll stick to my standard points:
- Location
- Service & Staff
- Cuisine
- For the money
Location is pretty simple to get to, the design and layout of the place is nice and well suited for larger groups and since its new, has a warm and rustic feel while feeling slightly modern to and extent. its clean inside which is good especially since its new. The Bar area seems to be one of its main attractors as well as a focal point inside the restaurant. I applaud the design and it was very well stocked with a sizeable array of spirits ranging from rums, whiskeys, to scotch, vodka , wine and beers.. it felt like the restuarant was almost built around this bar in a way..
The Service and Staff were all very nice and I had no complaints at all here.. we arrived to visit a pre-arranged party of 8 so, to this point I have no experience with how hostess staff and seating, or taking reservations up to this point. during our meal however, the service was solid and we felt constantly looked after.
- The food.... well, the Menu itself reminded me of a copy of Chili's/Ruby's/Outback/ and maybe a bit of the cheesecake factory... I didnt feel like this restaurant offered up things that made you say.. go here for this because no one else does it this way.. its pretty standard fair... cheesburgers and sandwiches, steaks ... a pasta.. some seafood... these are all well and good but the issue arises when things like, I asked for a plate of their house rolls, which were crossaints drizzled with a honey-butter, they wanted 6 bucks for 5 of them... say wha?? .. ok im not against paying something .. but its bread.. and its honey butter... this issue of pricing is something I feel already could be bad for their business model.. granted some things are going to be more expensive due to their overall costs... but others I think are way off base...so I think this is where the disconnect is for me.
The steak I ordered, the 12oz Ribeye (Mid Rare) came out flavorful, but only half was mid rare, the other was well into the Mid-well.. The Sweet potato Mash was honeslty just ok.. seasoned with cinnamon , it reminds of outback.. when there are other options for seasoning.. how about considering a butternut squash mash.. or adding other ingredients to set off salty-sweet combo's .. cinnamon can be one note...
The Salad was fine... nothing special...
My Girfriend got the house burger which turned out to be too salty and a bit overdone... the restauant was not full by any means...
when it came to dessert, we decided to order to go.. she ordered the apple cobbler and I the Red Velvet... the Apple cobbler was cooked "to order" and half way through we were told there were no apples.. so it was peach instead.. with an additional waiting period, we were visited by the manager who offered to re-emburse our cards on our next visit.. that seemed wierd.. a few minutes later he came with complimentary desserts instead on a managers card.. a smart choice...
the final talley 2 of us cost over 50bucks for burger, steak&side salads, a beer, sweet tea and dessert... about the same as a night at outback to be honest.. and maybe a slight bit less as good..
if it were up to me, I would re-look at the menu and start thinking about some other directions.. or, if you mains stay the same.. the "sides" are really important when thinking accompanyment .. it might be time to elevate them to sing a different tune and stand out from the others.
I will return here to try something else before really giving a fair assesment.. sometimes once isnt enough. read more
