Their property is much deeper than I had imagined, an urban farm wedged into that little triangle formed by Highway 70 and Highway 70 South in Bellevue. Several greenhouses grow a wide array of plants! Enormous fresh strawberries sat in small baskets. Inside a small shed, fresh cuts of meat were on display in the refrigerator while numerous treats covered every shelf. They also had fresh produce, and I picked up very affordable heirloom tomatoes and purple bell peppers. In fact, one weekend, there were at least three families we recognized in the park! This makes your shopping experience that much more personal and pleasant, especially in pandemic times. Take a leisurely stroll through the different stalls, making small talk with strangers, sellers, and friends alike. That's my kind of Saturday. We ended up purchasing a beautiful blanket from The Nashville Blanket Project which gives a blanket to someone in need for each one purchased. Sigh. I did wish I had stopped here first! Everyone was very friendly and there was anything and everything you could ask for at a Farmer's Market! This was much more of a "bustling market" and since it is on the grass, families were able to spread out blankets and could stay to enjoy the live music! I very much enjoyed walking through and browsing, but as I had already purchased what I needed from the other farmer's market, I did not purchase anything this time around. However, I did feel that the vendors at the other location were a bit more personable and were very generous with samples and talking about what they offer. This one lacked that slightly, but overall had more of what I needed.

His wife, however, is a good ways away from him on the friendliness factor. Let me preface this by saying, I am aware that the strawberry farm is their personal property, and it is how they make their living. I understand their need to protect their farm and their investment. I also feel quite sure that they must have dealt with, on more than one occasion, unruly children who are not watched or corrected by their parents when they don't respect the Pantall's property while picking berries. However- On our last visit to Pantall's Farm Mrs. Pantall was keeping shop. It seems she is the face of the farm lately. Before my friend and I even got all the way from our car to the building with our kids, Mrs. Pantall was nearly berating us about watching our children and almost angrily telling us that we would be asked to leave if we didn't follow the rules. Our kids are not perfect, but they know how to be well behaved and respectful of others. And you better believe that when they are not, especially when it infringes on someone else, we are on top of it in a heartbeat. Not to mention that we had BARELY set foot on their property when she began to rant (not speak- rant!) at us. Our children were guilty of no rule breaking. It's one thing to reinforce knowledge of your picking policies, but it's another to act nearly hostile to your customers when they arrive. I've never felt less welcome. Needless to say, we have found another strawberry patch locally that we are more than happy to give our business to.

The individual who handled the transaction said only a text and an email receipt would be provided. We received neither. I calked the market this morning at approximately 10:20 I called and asked the man who answered about the receipt. His response was " I have about 3 people checking customers out and I don't know what you are talking about." I tried explaining, again, what the employee told my husband. The individual on the phone, hung up on me. Immediately, I called back and my call was not taken. Very disappointed how this was not handled. There are too many vegetable/ fruit markets that value their customers and consequently I will do business with them.

So this was my first stop on a Saturday "West Side Farmers Market" comparison adventure, and I was…read morepleased to try a variety of samples from the vendors as well as purchase some produce, kale chips, and a delicious raw wrap from the ladies at Spark of Life! They had a nice set up with some live music playing and a solid amount of tents. However, the produce was quite limited when I was here with only two tents offering fresh veggies and such. Bummer! They had a donut truck on site, but couldn't see any area to get coffee. Boo! However, I did enjoy the samples and left with some items, and was pleased overall. UNTIL I went to the other Farmer's Market on Charlotte. I have to give them a higher rating. Mostly because it lacked the produce variety and no coffee! However, I do support Spark of Life, so I'll have to stop back by on another day and see what kind of variety is offered.
