My experience at The Butcher Block was incomparable to any other butcher shop I have ever visited. I wanted to purchase a 320 dry aged Rib-eye with no real knowledge on how to prepare it. For any of you who don't know, that is a very expensive steak!!!! Instead of just letting me buy it and making the profits, EM (the owner) came out to talk to me about how to properly cook the tasty meat. Once I realized I was in over my head, I changed my order to a fantastic Prime cut Rib-eye. Here is when the whole experience turned from great to ARE YOU SERIOUS GREAT!!! EM spoke with me for a coupe minutes on how she prepares her dry aged and after seeing how interested I was in her process she turns to one of her employees and says "Hey, Trim that dry aged Rib-eye up and let him have it on me" I couldn't believe my ears. Talk about a customer experience and a love for what you do. Most butcher shops I have been to expect you to know everything about the meat you are interested in and if you dont, they can be jerks about it. NOT EM!!!! She takes pride in what she does and is willing to have a conversation to help build your knowledge about the process and how to get the best taste out of her products. Honestly, I've never purchased anything here. I've been in the store a few times asking for certain items/cuts. They have never once had what I was looking for. Pork bones. Lamb belly. Chicken oysters. A few others I can't remember. And unfortunately service is not great. The 4 times I've been in the store, when I ask "do you have x here today?" the employee has not even turned around to answer. A simple "no we don't" while still cutting and working with their back to me. I find that to be quite rude and while the first few times I thought I must have caught them on an off day, now that it's 4 times, I think it's just how they roll. Still giving 3 stars as they seem to have a decent selection of standard items. It's just so unfortunate they aren't a full service butcher shop like Bare Bones in the Nations, who will literally save you cuts and bones if you ask. Please make an effort to make eye contact with customers, I cannot tell you how much that makes a difference. read more

Delightfully delicious (kinda) hidden gem. Friendly and helpful staff. Lunch - they got it covered: Soups, Sandwiches, (maybe make it a combo) - eat in at one of the "family friendly" tables and get to know your neighbors. Or, take it with you to heat and eat tonight (the "Take Away" menu is pretty impressive.) Then there's the über-quality meats, some dry aged, others just tantalizingly inviting. (I was just browsing those today.) The tomahawk steaks were awesome....and I want some for my next grill session ... and ... yes, I'd love to take home one of the beautiful smoker grills they have on display. I've lived down the street for almost 4 years now and never tried them before. The other day I saw a local celebrity post a video saying they have the best sandwiches and then today when looking on Uber Eats they popped up. Maybe it was a sign, maybe it was the Sandwich God screaming at me. Either way, I listened and was heavily influenced. I might have paid $30 for a single sandwich to be delivered but sooo worth it! OMG!! How can a simple sandwich be so dang good?!?! I love a good sandwich but there is a clear difference between store bought meat and fresh sliced high quality meat. The bread was incredible the meat was delicious but the bacon... was perfectly crispy! Unfortunately my sandwich didn't have avocado or onions on it like I ordered but I'll forgive them. I may be running in to grab another sandwich for dinner before they close. Looks like they don't open again for a few days and know I'll be wanting it again very soon!! read more

This meaty menagerie came highly recommended by everyone I work with, so I decided to try it out today on my lunch break. KEEP IN MIND the threat of tornados was in the Williamson County area so I knowingly chose this place with the forethought that this could be my last meal before I got Dorothy and Toto'ed away into oblivion. I made a 11/10 decision in coming here. The women inside were incredibly welcoming and when I said it was my first time inside the store, they all but rolled out the red carpet and walked me through the menu's entirety. This is a pretty ideal lunch spot where you can get a satisfying sandwich, soup, chips, soda, the whole shabang for a reasonable price. I got the Cheddar Club on rye and loved it. I'll start with Wow. Visited the store on June 7, 2019, and had a couple sandwiches made for the wifey and I. I decided on the Twisted Ruben. Very good tasing sandwich, and stuffed with meat. The bride chose a Chicken Salad sandwich. All she did was rave about it. Checked out the store as whole and I really wished we lived closer so we could purchase our meats from here. I've had steaks from this place several times in the past as I visited friends who routinely purchase from here and I can tell you this - way way better then the box type stores. This was the third time we bought beef from them. Third strike and they're out. We bought "USDA Prime" 5+ pound prime rib this time. We cooked it perfectly. PERFECTLY! But there was hard gristle HARD GRISTLE, NOT FAT...in this much like the other meats we've bought from them before. While we can certainly absorb the $182(!) loss it absolutely ruined our Thanksgiving dinner. My wife works retail so I thought a great meal of prime rib and potatoes Romanoff would be a real treat. I have been coming here for several years, purchased a Primo from the previous owners. I must say, the service and selection have grown from better to best! The family who now owns it is more than willing to discuss cuts, marinades, etc. it is a true butcher shop with a flair. We just recently purchased a pork tenderloin with a blueberry, bar b q marinade at their suggestion. It seemed like a strange combination. After grilling it last night, we were in awe. It was not only an amazing cut of meat, juicy and tender, the flavor combo was outstanding. I have tried the filets recently and will be grilling the tomahawks this weekend. I simply cannot day enough good things about the Butcher Block. It's not Publix or Kroger and yes, it will be more expensive. It's worth giving it a try and not just once but, once in a while if not more. I wanted to love this place, I really did. Unfortunately the sandwiches we had were incredibly mediocre. We didn't get any take home meat, we just stopped by for lunch so maybe that's why. I could have made my sandwich at home and it hardly had any meat in it. I have been looking for great deli sandwiches like we had in the north and haven't found it in Nashville yet. The Butcher's Block is good for three things: lunch, fresh meat, and deli supplies. I liked the place for what it was. The meat looked extremely fresh, it was bright red, the cuttings were clearly recent, and the fat was white not browning. The deli meat is Boar's Head, again, high quality. And the lunches are pretty decent, too. I had the turkey sandwich, and it was very tasty. But there is no reason to go here if you don't have plans for either of these. Boar's Head can also be found elsewhere, so I don't think that should be your motivation, either. The Butcher Block is good for fresh meats, and for as Sherlock Holmes said, "A sandwich and a cup of coffee." Go there for lunch if you live or work in Cool Springs. Otherwise, I can't image any reason to trek from Nashville or Murfreesboro. read more

I called The Butcher Block last week and didn't get an answer. I thought I'd call again later, but my phone rang in a few minutes as Butcher Block called me back to see if they could help. I spoke to the employee for a couple of minutes about ordering a pork butt and when she couldn't answer a question, she quickly put the manager on the phone to discuss the source of their Durcshire pork product. They were just as ready and willing to help when I arrived as they were on the phone and I left with a beautiful 11.5 lb cut of meat that would be served as dinner for 10 in a couple of days. The pork turned out absolutely perfect - tender and flavorful with a light, almost downy quality and excellent marbling without being too fatty. Everyone remarked on the great BBQ at dinner. It cooked easily on the smoker and required no additional trimming, too. Butcher Block will be my source for high quality pork cuts going forward. Thank you! read more

I stopped in for lunch to check things out as I have been missing the experience of a local butcher. First - the service has been superb on both visits. The owner introduced himself and and the employees. His passion and eagerness for understanding what customers want was so pleasant! They seem to be expanding their scope of offerings to wines and cheeses, etc. ... looking forward to what comes. Next, the roast beef sandwich from the deli was spectacular. As other reviewers mention, it wasn't huge, but so perfectly balanced in flavor, it felt just right. The meat counter makes my mouth water!!! Tri-tip, full brisket and anything else you can want. I cooked the Tri-tip last night and moving on to the ribs this evening. Which leads me to the next point ... they are a Primo grill dealer. I bought mine a year ago and though not cheap ... The first time I went in they offered me a piece of freshly cooked bacon to try! What other butcher shop would do that? The bacon was amazing! I asked for a pound of bacon and I got my first half a pound for free! The customer service is unlike anything I've ever experienced before, the people there make you feel like family! I read the other reviews, and here is how to have an amazing butcher shop experience there: DO: 1 order a whole filet and get the trimmings made into hamburger 2 get ALL of your chicken and pork here. Ok here's my best secret: get a 6+ bone pork rack, cook it like you do ribs, and watch your friends and inlaws drool. This is the best place for fresh chicken (get 2-joint FRESH chicken wings here, and fresh chicken breasts with zero and I mean zero fat) 3. The fresh homemade bratwurst is amazing 4. 1/4 lb huge boar's head hotdogs. Only if you love amazing hot dogs. 5. Rib eye steaks - even cowboy steaks. Soup bones. And grab a sandwich too. And ask about the Primo Grills. DONT 1. Go in thinking this is whole foods. They probably don't have the Alaskan king crab legs you wanted. I don't go there for salmon, but I sure do love the fresh pork sausage. 2. Don't ask here how to cook it. That's what YouTube is for. 3. Be rude. The owner is cutting meat, cleaning, and teaching at least half a dozen kids a trade. Today was the second time to visit. I went seeking expert opinions on two meat questions and hoping to buy. 1. Do you have grass fed beef? He looked at me as if I was asking for filet de perro. Strike one. 2. I asked for bottom round. He didn't have it. I just assumed a butcher would have almost all cuts. 3. I asked what can you use for beef jerky.
