I had to come back and update my review because this place continues to impress me. If you haven't been to Light Hill Meats yet, you're seriously missing out. The quality of everything they sell is top-notch, and it's become one of my favorite local spots for fresh meat. But this visit, I have to talk about the blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Wow. It was one of those desserts that makes you stop talking after the first bite. The cobbler was warm, packed with sweet blueberries, and had the perfect buttery, crumbly topping. Paired with the cold, creamy vanilla ice cream melting into it, it was absolutely incredible. I honestly wasn't expecting to find one of my favorite desserts at a butcher shop, but here we are! The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions or make recommendations. You can tell they genuinely care about the quality of their products and the experience they provide. It's rare that I update a review, but this place earned it. Between the outstanding meats, excellent customer service, and now one of the best blueberry cobblers I've had, Light Hill Meats keeps giving me reasons to come back. Disclaimer- I am NOT a cheap/thrifty person. Update from my first review a while back. Quality beef and pork, however their pricing has crept up SIGNIFICANTLY over the past year or so. I like to support local businesses, but it's become obnoxious. Perfect example is they sell Masa Chips for $15 a bag. I have ordered them direct for months, @16 bags for $56, free shipping. Seriously, I am all for running a profitable business, but I stopped shopping there for a year, and finally went back for sausage just last week. I will again, go back to Semler Farms. read more

I picked up a few NY strips recently. They smell like there were marinaded. After further investigation, I am convinced that the cuts I purchased were scrap meats that were assembled and glued together to appear as a NY strip. For those who aren't aware of this process, just google it and begin your research. Shame! read more

As a transplant from Texas, I'd grown accustomed to Central Market and their large and fabulous meat counter, where the butchers are knowledgeable and stock virtually any cut you could imagine. Here in Central Tennessee, the protein selection in groceries like Publix and Kroger is a lot more limited, and hit and miss. So it is a treat to find Light Hill Meats now open in Spring Hill, so quite convenient to Franklin, Thompsons Station, etc as well. Fabulous selection, great guys, happy to cut anything you want, from snout to tail. A focus on local and fresh. Even make their own sausage. Welcome to the area, I'll be a weekly customer, and encourage anyone who loves a good steak, or stew, or chili, or anything meat, to visit and get to know Light Hill. We finally got steaks from this place after hearing amazing reviews. The reviews were right, this place is awesome! There's so many different meats here. We got a filet, a ribeye, and two kinds of jerky. Everything was amazing. This is 100% our new meat store. Can't wait to go back and try everything. Service was awesome as well. read more

I am never going back.  We went for a pork roast.  My wife saw a cherry pie that looked good so we got that also.  At checkout the bill was $32.39, including $17.00 for the pie.  See image LightHill The irony is, we left and went about 500 yards down the hill to the Food Lion and the same pie was $8.49.  Less then 1/2 the price.  Same pie, same date.  See image Food Lion Besides, they charged me $1.89 sales tax.  I thought TN charges no sales tax on items like this. Fantastic place to buy quality local meat in Spring Hill. I believe they just opened a week or so ago but they have a meat processing plant in Lynnville and have been doing pop up meat events on Saturday's in Columbia for a couple years. I've had multiple steers processed with them over the last couple years and the quality and service has always been top notch. I checked out the shop today and it is awesome. They've got every cut of beef and pork that you can think of. The quality is great. The have local cheese and ice cream from Nash Family Creamery in Chapel Hill as well as oysters and frozen seafood. I bought a few different kinds of link sausage from them, some snack sticks and cheese curds. The snack sticks are the freshest snack sticks that I've ever had. Loved the Louisiana andouille style sausage that I smoked tonight as well and the cheese curds from Nash family creamery were great too. I try to support local business but was disappointed in the quality and taste. The beef hot dogs were tough, overly chewy and had an off odd flavor. Think rawhide chew. A friend bought some as well.Same thing - nasty. The sweet Italian sausage - is sweet - no mild but sweet - and not what I am used to using for Italian dishes and should have some semblance of Italian sausage. The ground beef had an odd off flavor. The country sausage had a decent spice - but was a dry. Everything had the same off flavor and strong gamey taste. Whether it is the processing or flavorings it was overwhelming in all that I tried. The steaks and other items might be okay, Maybe sweet Italian sausage sells better but it is an indication that they owners are novices to cooking and how things should taste and decided to "let's open a meat market" without having cooking or tasting experience. I wish them well but will not be returning. read more
