Patricia was amazing, she really took her time on my rainbow manicure (designed to match Carey Mulligan's in Promising Young Woman), and was very generous with her foot/leg massage during the pedicure. I get it - one of the most stressful things in the world is going to a new hair stylist. This was my problem when I moved to Madison about a year ago. I spent the next few months trying several salons that were a little more affordable, but the quality just didn't compare to my experiences at William Jon Salon. I'm particularly picky about my hair, since I love a crazy volume and stylish hairdo that is also fairly low maintenance. Many folks who've worked on my hair always comment on how surprisingly thick my hair (it's full of secrets) and difficult it is to work on, but very few have been able to make it look exactly how I want it to. Enter Katrina, an incredibly attentive and talented woman! I showed her a reference picture of how I wanted my hair, and she spent the next hour making sure it was perfect. That entire time, we talked about random topics like wine, family, and even travel, and I felt as if I was catching up with an old friend. Without fail, I always get a ton of compliments and questions about where I get my hair done whenever Katrina works her magic on my head. Needless to say, I have found my hairstylist for the rest of my life out here in Madison, and think it's definitely worth paying a little bit more and loving every moment of my fabulous hair instead of saving those extra 15 bucks and sighing every time I look in the mirror! read more

I went to William Jon Salon and Spa today for the first time out of sheer boredom with how my hair looked, hoping for something that looked right for me. I told Jon to just surprise me and I was pleasantly so. He really gave me a great cut, giving my short, fine hair the lift and texture it needed. I definitely will be coming back. read more

gotta pay it forward... found myself on a bench on state street today when i caught a glimpse of my reflection in a window... hair in bun... again... i knew it was time for a cut. I perused yelp to find a salon that might have been reviewed by a fellow curly frizzball and bam! william jon salon appeared. they were able to squeeze me in same day with karen (who only works fridays and saturday). a few hours later, and my locks were alive again... possibly one of the best cuts to date. karen was a total genius with the scissors, working my hair in ways i have yet to experience. given how excited i am to flaunt my new hairdo, i highly recommend this place! read more

Great neighbourhood salon. Prices are reasonable (colour = $150 without cut/style, mind you, but I have A LOT of hair, so..) They also just remodeled and now have a cool spa area... Ok this is such a non descriptive review, but it's late at night, maybe I should just go to sleep and come back to the review tomorrow. Sarah, my stylist, is SUCH an expert in my hair (Keri Russell-Felicity type curly, frizzy and A TON OF), and seriously, anyone that takes as long as they do (~1.5-2 hours) on my hair, and still have the amiability and conversation to humour me for that long gets two thumbs up. Although she's now given birth to two beautiful boys (TWINS!) so she won't be there for a while, however, everyone else is VERY good. It's also the only place that if there's someone better knowledgeable on a different kind of hair, they'll refer you... But all in all, it's a great salon. read more

Just before I left NYC I had my hair re-highlighted. The natural-looking, ash blonde highlights I asked for ended up being orange and damaged. Jennifer at William Jon squeezed me into her busy schedule today for a single process and damage treatment. Jennifer brought me to the gorgeous rich, deep brown I asked for, with no trace of orange or damage. She was so sweet and knowledgable, and ensured I left the salon feeling confident and happy. If you got hair color problems this is the place to go and Betsey is the person to go to. This is the 3rd time in many years that I have gone to her to fix a bad color. I tracked her down from the other (not out of business, William Jon salon on the square). This time she cut my hair and did a wonderful job. She never makes me feel bad for what I did and she is willing to work with us who can't afford regular salon coloring visits and attempt to do it ourselves. She has been in the business 50 years and she knows her chemistry. I hear she is great with African American hair as well. Check her out. read more

I went to Katrina after a bad experience with another salon. She fixed my terrible dye job and I've been going to her ever since! I usually want to do involved and time consuming things with my hair. She spends a lot of time on it and it always looks great. As a natural brunette who loves being blonde, I know that my hair needs a lot of upkeep. I came here after a chain salon made me a fiery, orange redhead. I am a brunette. I never expressed wanting red hair, yet red hair I got. I called William Jon salon in tears and they made an appt for me the next day. They are not the least expensive place in Madison, but they are not unreasonable. And they fixed my tragic hair. It was amazing - not only did my stylist comfort me the entire time, but so did her colleagues. They all provided input and agreed on he best course of action - I felt like I was in good hands. Also, it doesn't hurt that every stylist in the salon has beautiful hair. If they have beautiful hair, then I know I can trust them =) read more

I love this salon. I have natural curly hair, have tried other places and would not go anywhere else. Christy Love cuts my hair. She listens to what I want and is really amazing. I found this place about a year and a half ago. I had been growing out my hair to donate it to locks of love and wanted an opinion if my hair was long enough to do so. People here are wonderfully friendly and flexible. I got my hair cut by Karen, and she did this fantastic interesting style with my boring, long straight hair. I was a bit uncertain about it and went back a day later, and she readily changed it around a bit to suit my tastes. Now, I actually think that she was spot-on for the first cut, but both looked really good. Three months later, it's grown out really well. I also go here to get my eyebrows done, and they really listen to my rather specific desires about shape. It's a little pricey for me, but I like to be cheap. I have been a client of the salon for many years and have had nothing but wonderful experiences! From cuts, color, manicures and pedicures they all do a great job. It is also the only salon that I have found that gives a great Brazilian wax! It is a pleasant relaxing environment and the staff always makes you feel comfortable. The stylists are well trained and are always going to classes so you know that you are going to get a a great cut everytime! I highly recommend Casey but they all do a great job. First off... no one should have to wait 25 minutes AFTER their appointment already started to even get seated on the salon hair. It was my first time going to the salon and I told them I wanted someone with more experience. They set me up with a 22 year old woman who seemed hungover with booze on still on her breath. I told her I wanted all-over blonde highlights. Not fake bleach blonde, but a softer blonde. I went home feeling happy with the color selection, but when I got under the CORRECT lighting (the lights in the salon are very dim) I saw that she made my hair color look gold-like. I called them and demanded they fix the problem. After they fixed the color I decided to never go back there again. I went to an Aveda Concept salon in Middleton and when my stylist combed my hair she showed me where the lining of my color was. The lady didnt correct the whole head. She just made the highlights on top look perfect and they one underneath you could still see two inches of gold from the root color. I had THREE diffternt colors in my hair when there only should have been one. NEVER EVER going back there again. OVERPRICED and understyled read more
