If you are looking for a surgeon who has many humorous antidotes and makes a lot of pleasant small talk, this is not your guy. However, if you need a professional oral surgeon who knows exactly what he is doing and does it perfectly and seemingly effortlessly, does not leave you bruised or in pain, then Dr. William Bohannan is your man. I had a bridge break off out of my mouth. It broke one anchor tooth normally, but the other - at the gumline basically and I asked him to remove both teeth. The first one wasn't so difficult, it came right out. The second one had nothing to grip onto, so he had to go in there with a drill and break the tooth up and then pull out the pieces. He explained doing this at the consultation visit hence, I was extremely nervous about going in. But it was finished so quickly I was floored... amazed... grateful. I hope I am never in need of oral surgery again, but if it happens, Dr. William Bohannan will be my first choice, and I will recommend him highly to anyone needing an oral surgeon. The staff members are all genuinely nice. They send you home with very thorough instructions, and a dozen or so gauze pads to keep over the tooth removal area. If you want a throwback to 2020, this is the office for you. Masks, vaccination status, and covid history required, each time you enter the office. Large ventilator in the waiting room. I asked if I could wait in the hall rather than put on the useless mask and they said no, people in the office were vulnerable, and if I left, they'd charge me $50 for cancelling. When I finally saw the doctor, he barely looked in my mouth, and when I asked him if an implant or bridge would be better, he said, "it's up to you." I looked up the pros and cons on Google while in the office, and when I brought them up to him, he said, "You can't believe everything you read on Google." I'm looking somewhere else. read more

Update: I have healed extremely well from having my wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Bohannan is an extremely masterful surgeon and I don't feel like my mouth has any weird holes or anything and I can barely feel a difference in my mouth. Part of my jawbone was removed on both bottom sides to get to the teeth and I healed superbly. I tend to have a very high chemical and pain tolerance and Dr. Bohannan was able to accommodate me (I was in an incredible amount of pain the first day because the anesthesia wore off within the hour of waking up) and I slept with ice for two solid weeks. My boyfriend had his wisdom teeth removed by a different surgeon and he has gaping holes in his mouth where his teeth used to be, and he's jealous of my closed barely visible slits, AND my teeth were severely impacted. I highly recommend Dr. Bohannan. I was referred to Dr. Bohannan from Dr. Henry Dee to have all four impacted wisdom teeth removed. I just had the procedure yesterday and the whole process was extremely smooth. I puff up naturally, but Dr. Bohannan gave me very adequate information and medication to take care of all my needs. They even called me the day after to make sure I'm alright and because there was a fire in NorCal today asked me how I was breathing alright (I have pretty bad asthma). Dr. Bohannan is funny and kind and very direct, which I extremely prefer as I am a rather direct person myself. His bedside manner is great and he is extremely knowledgeable about his profession. He is great at reassuring his patients and is a true professional. Excellent for tooth extraction. I've had difficult extractions in the past, so I went to Dr Bohannan so I could be sedated throughout the procedure. I had a tooth extracted over five years ago, and now another one this month. Both procedures were quick, easy, and my pain was well managed by Dr Bohannan. I have had good and bad dental care over my lifetime, and I strongly recommend Dr Bohannan. He is no non-sense, takes care of business, and I am pain free. My Post Traumatic Stress (P.T.S.D.) occurred under Dr. Bohannan' lack of empathy for his VERY EXPENSIVE tooth removal and potential implant. He, himself, appears uninterested if the procedure works or NOT.. He did NOT offer to retry or provide a partial refund when it is unsuccessful. I had a great deal of pain and anxiety about the process and shared these concerns with the doctor prior to this procedure. Dr. Bohannan appeared with no sense of assistance when my pain was unbearable. Dr. Bohannan's staff are wonderful and did attempt to be understanding through this process. They claim they were in network with Cigna and accept insurance with Cigna. But when the bill comes, they said they actually have trouble with Cigna and as a patient, I need to pay the bill. During the whole communications, no matter their front desk or their manager, they just always said they had problem with Cigna not resolved, it was patient's responsibility to pay the bill, and they had no solution at all but just need to collect the money. Dr. Bohannon's office is awesome! I went in and was greeted by the receptionist and was taken in right away. I had to take X-Rays and was later greeted by Dr. Bohannon who gave me an extensive consultation. He was very professional, through, and answered my list of questions. Fast forward to the actual procedure, I was very nervous. It was my first time being put to sleep for any type of operation. Sergey is the best and was super cool as he helped calm my nerves. The best doctor and the best crew ever ( including everyone:). had 4 teeth extracted without any issues during a surgery. Doctor Bohannan was very precise about pulling my friends out so I wasn't worried or scared and the whole surgery took less than an hour. Next two days they called me to check how I was doing which was very nice of them. In one week I was there again so they could check my stitches and give me further instructions regarding my wounds. My trusted dentist recommended Dr Bohannan but after reading the yelp reviews, I was kind afraid of June/Jen the receptionist! First off, it's Jin. And secondly, she really wasn't as bad as everyone made her out to be! Sure, she is not a Type 2 or Type 9 Enneagram but she got things done. I went to have a dead molar extracted and Sergei and Dr Bohannan were cheerful, respectful, and most importantly, gave the anesthesia plenty of time to take effect! I didn't feel rushed even though it was a pretty straightforward procedure for them. I would go back to them if I ever needed a job done again. Unfortunately, my insurance company never got the bill from the dentist so I was billed directly for the full sum. Jin assured me she would resend it and I shouldn't pay. MetLife kept insisting they didn't receive it though Dr Bohannan's office has dealt with them many times before without issue. It took almost 5 months to settle this. I had offered to pay Dr Bohannan first, and claim that from my insurance later, so that I wouldn't be in arrears. But Jin assured me she would try again. And again. Through it all, Jin sent the required documents to Metlife about 4 times. So even though the payment/claims part was a bit of a drawn out fiasco, I felt that Jin was on my side and worked to get a satisfactory solution. read more

I was given Dr. Bohannan's name from our pediatric dentist for my 14-year-old to have 2 teeth removed and then her bottom wisdom teeth removed. She was nervous, to say the least. The office is conveniently located and the front desk employee, Jen, is very thorough and friendly. Dr. Bohannan is very experienced, direct and easy to talk to. He is also a very caring individual who eased my daughter's mind each time he talked to her during appointments. She felt very comfortable in his presence. His assistant is hilarious and he really is able to put the patient at ease with his funny sense of humor and kind ways. A very caring, friendly and professional team. Dr. Bohannan called me several times to check up on my daughter over several weeks. He even called me after hours the day of her wisdom teeth extraction, making sure she was not in too much pain and if I had any questions. Really good! I went in with Dr. Bohannan to get all four of my wisdom teeth extracted. The experience was really smooth. Before the surgery, he gave me a very extensive and detailed list of expectations for the procedure, what to eat, how to take care of it, etc. After the surgery, which was on a Friday, he even called me to follow up the next day (weekend), which was a really nice personal touch. Wisdom teeth recovery takes a while in general, about a week for the stitches to come off and the swelling to be gone, and then another 1-2 months for the little holes (if you have your bottom wisdom teeth extracted) to fully close, which you have to clean every day (and they teach you how at Dr. Bohannan's office). Awesome experience! I've been putting off extracting my last two wisdom teeth and an infected molar for YEARS! I couldn't be happier with the outcome at Dr. Bohannan's office! From the initial consult to the post-op visit, the entire staff was helpful, professional and most importantly supportive. I was terrified of being put under, but Sergei, Dr. Bohannan's assistant, kept cracking jokes! The next thing I knew, I was awake. June did a great job walking me through the finances piece. I just got all 4 wisdom teeth removed and the surgery was pretty smooth. The receptionist is always rude at the front. I thought at first it was just may have been an off day but this is my third time in the office. I just went for my final check up. I went to check in and was not greeted, barely was acknowledge, as soon as I sat down she continued on with her personal phone call. During my surgery I was super nervous and the surgeons assistant was so sweet and friendly he made me feel comfortable and assured me that it would go smooth. By the time the surgeon arrived he walked in the room didn't say anything to me. He then just started trying to find a vein for the over but couldn't and got annoyed and eventually just put it in my hand. I had a gum which was covering up half of my lower wisdom tooth and getting between the two teeth and swelling up. Really painful. I was referred to Dr. Bohannan by my regular dentist. The staff was super friendly and explained me everything is great detail. They did a full mouth image and recommended that I get rid of 2 wisdom teeth. The other two were impacted and weren't causing any issues. I really liked the fact that they recommended against unnecessary surgery. I took an appointment 2 days later because I wanted to be sedated while it happened, and that needs you to be with an empty stomach. On the day, I went in. They took some measurements and attached various heart monitoring equipment. Then they put a needle in arm, didn't even feel a pinch. The doctor and his assistant were just making small talk, trying to make me feel relaxed. That's the last memory, and then I woke up after 40 minutes, everything done! I don't even remember when they started, because all I remember is the jokes! The followup was great. I never needed any pain killers, but just had them anyway on the first two days. Bleeding stopped after 4-5 hours, and then maybe a drop here and there on day 2. My biggest fear of wisdom tooth removal was the most easy experience of my life. I went to see Dr. Bohannan for the removal of my severely impacted wisdom teeth. I was somewhat nervous b/c I had been told that it was going to be quite the gnarly process to get those buggers out. Dr. Bohannan immediately made me felt at ease. He managed a great balance of humor and professionalism which is something I value in the person who will be yanking the teeth from my skull. It allowed me to feel comfortable. He assured me that I would not be in much pain following the procedure and he was right. I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. On a side note he installed (probably not the correct term) an implant for my dad. It's one of his front teeth so he was obviously worried about people being able to tell that it was a fake tooth. He did a beautiful job. It's stayed in there for many years so far and you would never guess that it was a fake tooth. I have to admit, the first time I met him I thought he looked a little young to be a DDS and a MD at the same time. I had this really weird impacted wisdom tooth that a few surgeons didn't even want to touch. And after speaking with Dr. Bohannan, he assured me it was no big deal. After you read this review, I think you will see what my issues with WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS are. WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS will offer anesthesia not covered by your insurance while you're in total pain. Right before surgery, WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS's assistant OFFERED a different anesthesia. However, that anesthesia that was upsold right before surgery cost [A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY] and wasn't covered by our insurance. Oh, I paid that [A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY] out of my pocket. But it took awhile. I argued with my insurance company and I argued with BOHANNON's office. In the end, everyone got paid and I thought I was done with this WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS guy at this point. Then WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS's office sends me another convoluted bill for [A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY] on top of it all (apparently, a contractual parthian shot for going to collections). In the future, I will be staying far, far away from WILLIAM BOHANNAN DDS. We got stuck with a high-priced item. The issue here is that WE DIDN'T ASK FOR THE [A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY] ANESTHESIA, DR. BOHANNON'S SECRETARY OFFERED IT. WE DIDN"T KNOW IT EXISTED, AND IN RETROSPECT, IT WAS UNNECESSARY. This is the crux. However, attempts to communicate this fact to DR. BOHANNON DDS's secretary at a later date were futile. This is the kind of experience I would expect if I was buying drugs on the street, not while under the stress of dental pain in WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS's office! This procedure could have been done for a fraction of the price. Novocaine is cool. We didn't need the UNINSURED [A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY] stuff that we didn't even know existed. THANKS A LOT, WILLIAM BOHANNON DDS. This is a long overdue review. Last year in March I got into a bicycle accident, flying out of my bike and landing face-first to the ground. I lost teeth and broke some. My dentist found Dr. Bohannan in the network and I immediately called them for an emergency surgery. I was really happy that Dr. Bohannan and his staff were able to schedule me in quickly (within a week) even though they were already booked. They put me to sleep and then I woke up with all the broken teeth gone and with bone grafting set in place. Surprisingly the recovery process wasn't bad. Of course, there was pain from my accident and all the extraction procedure but there's always prescribed drugs to help with the pain. Dr. Bohannan was very professional, knowledgeable and very sweet. He told me all the steps that would be needed to take for my full recovery, aka having a full set of teeth! He also told me the potential bad news, such as losing the teeth around the impacted area. I really respect his professional opinion and he was really transparent about everything. I ended up having to extract one tooth that he thought he couldn't save and then he added more bone grafting. A dental specialist was able to save a tooth at the other side of the impacted area with a root canal. I'm still in the process of waiting for the bone grafting to harden so the next step is to get four dental implants, which hopefully will be with me permanently til I die. His staff were also professional and sweet, and I've always felt welcomed and cared for. They also play music when you're awake for a quick extraction. Extremely professional and I only got good happy vibes from this place! Everyone was so friendly and genuine. I had an extreme fear of wisdom teeth removal having had no prior surgery or anesthesia experiences before. I was beyond nervous but Dr. Bohannan walked me through step by step before hand and answered all my questions and didn't act "bothered" at all like another Doctor's consultation that I had had previously. I had it done Feb 2019 and am fully healed with NO ISSUES whatsoever! I've been to Dr. Bohannan's office so many times now that I've lost track of the count. True, a lot of those have been consults, follow-ups, or check-ins, but in the span of three years, I think I've gotten to know the doctor and his team pretty well after three major oral surgeries in his office. Believe me, for wisdom teeth extraction, bone grafting, and implant surgery, you want the best of the best to do the job right and well. That's what Dr. Bohannan does! Even though I was so freaked out that the surgeries would leave me swollen for days and bed-ridden from pain, I ended up having no post-surgery pain at all. And I mean absolutely zero. There may have been very mild soreness and swelling, but I never once had to take the prescribed painkillers. Not even Advil! It was amazing. Aside from pain-free surgeries, the best part about this office is Dr. Bohannan, Christina, and Catherine!! They are truly the most caring and friendliest dental professionals I have ever met (and I have met quite a few). Dr. Bohannan was one of the top oral surgeons recommended by my dental office and I scheduled an appointment to consult him on extracting my wisdom teeth. The staff at his San Jose office is super efficient and professional. His office manager walked me through the new patient paperwork and verified my insurance coverage. His surgical assistant then met with me to explain the procedure, answer my questions, and have me watch a very well done video on wisdom tooth extraction. She was friendly and very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions thoroughly. I was extremely impressed with her! Dr. Bohannan then reviewed my panorex x-ray and performed an oral exam. The assistant was nice thats about it, the dictor was very cold and unwelcoming and alsmost made it seem like im an issue for coming in to get my wisdom teeth removed. Be constantly said that everything i was saying about what i was feeling was wrong like im not what enough to understand what I'm getting her was very judgemental about me and especially it seemed when i explained the medication im on. Then they discussed and explained to me the estimates and charges. For one they charge almost triple of any other olace ive seen, 3k for wisdom teeth renoval thats wild. And then later on i get another bill for even more than what was discussed originally, and we hadnt even done any procedures yet i still had that bill coming! So i called to get an explanation and The receptionist kept giving me round about answers and is disrespectful and has an attitude constantly and constantly kept cutting me off and taking over me and then actually just hung up on me because i told her to drop the attitude and stop talking over me. I hate to say it but i kind of people of color or any kind of ethnicity aren't really welcome there. Its a really nice place but burlingame has a history and they really were cold and judgy towards me for absolutely no reason. I came here again the 3rd week of August and Dr. Bohannan and Sergey did an amazing job removing my lower wisdom tooth. The process was extremely painful but he gave me more anesthetic when I screamed. He kept asking how I felt throughout the procedure and i could hear the sincerity in his voice. This process was more painful than the first one because the first wisdom tooth was located on the upper jaw and it healed quickly. This one is still in the healing process. I'm still a bit swollen on my left side and my face looks deformed when I look in the mirror or take pictures, so I avoid doing both. Natalie was very helpful and advised me on what I should do for the after care (What to eat and drink, no straw usage etc). I came here a week later and Sergey checked and made sure it was healing okay. There was no infection and he showed me how to rinse the area with a syringe the office provided. I'm giving them five stars because the oral surgery for the 4 wisdom tooth extracted from my 13 year old went really well. Dr. Bohannan is a very skilled surgeon and Sergey was a great balance to the serious nature of the appointment with his fun positive energy which helped lighten up the mood. I was stressed but I saw her smiling and laughing when he was funny which helped us feel better. The surgery was quick and painless (she slept through it) although time in recovery seemed really fast. The front desk person was also very helpful with my questions and the female attendant in the room was also very nice. Post Op is going well. Overall good experience.
