I'm a retired dentist with 43 years experience in private practice in San Francisco and San Mateo. I highly recommend Dr. Ferrera and Vu and team. I still work in Samaritan House as a volunteer dentist. I made my first appointment when I was picking up my grandkids. Dr. Vu and Lauren, the hygienist thoroughly explained their condition and what dental care they recommend. Parking was plentiful and easy. The receptionists, Jennifer and Andrea were very professional and kind in making my first appointment and receiving me as a new patient. I came in on time but forgot to fill out my registration online. Oopsie. "No problem, just finish it after the appointment. " The hygienist, Lauren was very friendly and did a superb job in evaluating and cleaning my teeth. She took a 3D, invisalign scan. The cleaning was super thorough and she asked for a lot of feed back on any discomfort. I really appreciate this as I am 66 years old and my gums are receeded in multiple areas causing cold water sensitivity. She said everything looked good but wants to see me in 4 months. Lys, the dental assistant took a full mouth X-ray while showing me her beautiful tattoos / sleeve. Who knew sleeves on the legs were called socks?! She's friendly and gregarious and apparently went to school with my son at SMHS. Dr. Ferrera did an evaluation and found one area of decay and I'm scheduled for that and a viviera retainer. He installed an implant crown perfectly and efficiently (10 minutes.) I was worried it wasn't going to fit as I waited about 12 months. All in all, Fiori (flower in Italian) dental is the perfect combination of excellent dental technique, friendly caring people, and modern equipment! read more

My sister recommended Fiori dental after I moved back to the area. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was cautiously optimistic. from the moment I walked in, I felt genuinely cared about. Everyone knew and used my name. My expectations were taken into account and my wishes were respected. And while this seems like a short order, my teeth and mouth have "trouble" and "problems" and "in need of help" written all over them. And every single dental practice I have been to until Fiori pushed me to do more despite pushing back and insisting that it was not the right time for that conversation. During my first visit the Fiori family (in some ways, literally) helped me to get to know them, how they function, and what I could expect from them. No "you should," no "I know you can't afford it right now, but..." It was different, in a good way. I walked away from my first appointment feeling hopeful, grateful, and uplifted. Not to mention, having that lovely clean teeth feeling! And I know that others feel the same way. Unfortunately I also walked away with another sooner than expected appointment to have a cavity filled. But, this time, I didn't feel apprehensive. Instead I was looking forward to meeting the rest of the Fiori team because I knew I could trust my dental team. The appointment to have my cavity filled was unbelievable. Despite my cavity being in the most challenging place in my mouth, I had the best experience (I'm not exaggerating) getting it filled that I can remember. And my entire face wasn't numb for hours like it usually is after having a cavity filled. I will wrap this review up, but I could keep writing about how glad I am that my sister recommended Fiori Dental. And so, I extend the recommendation to you. I don't think you will be disappointed! I called to inquire about getting my son's teeth whitened. I spoke to the receptionist for quite awhile and about making an appointment. She told me that she would look into some questions I asked and call me back with answers and to schedule an appointment. I never heard back. It's been a week. Not very good customer service . Do not go if out of network! Paid $400 out of pocket after insurance! More info- Very nice and welcoming people with good service and expertise, but they're out of network for me (I have great benefits through my employer) so I checked ahead to make sure I wouldn't incur some big out of pocket cost, which they said I wouldn't. They did a bunch of work that wasn't covered (x-rays too soon, special fluoride and extra imaging, etc) so I ended up getting charged 390+ out of pocket ($630 total visit for just a cleaning). My teeth had no issues and are in great shape- so I didn't need any of the extra stuff. I emailed to inquire about this and never got an answer other than "we'll check into it". This is pretty inappropriate since I even inquired ahead on any extra costs and they said it'd be covered. I won't go back because of this. read more

Three years later, I felt I had to leave an updated review. Dr. Jane and her husband are both very kind and personable, but a cavity I had filled here set into motion 3 years of tooth problems that resulted in a root canal and may now require tooth removal/implant. I've had a few small cavities treated in my life without issue or root canal. With some of them, the enamel remineralized naturally so they didn't require treatment. Im young, healthy, and don't have other dental issues. I'm not sure what it was about this one tooth or the ongoing treatment I had at Fiori, but I would not have had the cavity treated here if I knew what it would lead to. read more

I went to Fiori regularly for many years. Staff and dentists are very pleasant, but unfortunately I doubt their competency and thoroughness. In spite of frequent regular care a very deep pocket was missed and it led to severe illness, and eventually a full tooth extraction. How was that missed? The exams/cleanings were not thorough nor the xrays complete. In addition when I had enamel fillings done they were never finished by polishing so there was a rough surface that I can feel, and it provides a surface for plaque build-up. The problems from loosing a tooth are on-going half a year later and I have had to seek out other more expert care. The greatest expense has been not just monetary but losing forever the ability to chew properly. read more

I came in on March 12th to get crown on after getting a root canal done. I immediately noticed that Dr. Anthony was not very warm or welcoming which I think was due to a conversation we had previously regarding my disappointment in treatment. As you can imagine, this did not make me feel comfortable in any way. I feel like Dr. Anthony was not gentle or sensitive while performing my treatment. At the start of my treatment, I had mentioned to him that my bottom tooth was very sensitive and felt like he did not take my concern into consideration while placing my crown. When I voiced to him a second time that my tooth was sensitive, his frustration become more apparent and did not put me at ease - it made me very anxious. He proceeded to perform my duties but felt like he was getting more rough. All in all, it was a HORRIBLE experience. Post procedure, I had a terrible migraine and vomited. Clearly, not normal. I would have expected Dr. Anthony would be more empathetic towards his patients and would have expected him to be more professional . Please note, I had sent this message in a follow up email that wanted me to share my experience.. it has been 4 months and I have yet to hear back. read more

I am sending my husband here, ASAP. First off, I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to dentists. My two front teeth are crowns from a bike accident in my 20s where my face met the road so I get nervous about their care. Also, my last dentist suggested a $2000 treatment plan for cavities I suspected didn't exist. Fiori Dental couldn't have made a better first impression. The staff were welcoming and friendly. My insurance information was pulled for me while I was taken on a quick tour of the facility. I got a welcome gift. Their tech includes state of the art equipment like digital x-rays and on-site printing of porcelain crowns. Thanks to their "comfort menu" I got a snuggly microfleece blanket and dark glasses during my cleaning. But who cares about all these frills if they upsell you or don't do good work? Well, they were fabulous on that front too. Dr. Sing reviewd my x-rays with me and found some demineralization that occurs at the start of a cavity. Rather than suggesting a filling, she suggested I floss 2x a day and we check back at my next cleaning to see how I did in remineralizing. FYI - did you know baby cavities are reversable? I actualy did but most people don't. Once you pass the point of no return, that's it, you need to get a filling. However, a dentist that's looking out for you will try to avoid uneccessary fillings in the early stages. Dr. Sing also discussed my teeth clenching with me so I could better understand how it is affecting my body and what we can do. The cleaning itself was with Cat, the hygienist, and she was personable and friendly and did a good job, ending the cleaning by showing me tooth by tooth how to floss the right way. On the way out the super friendly staff told me I was all set and sent me on my way with one of the freshly baked muffins that Dr. Anthony makes in the office every morning. It was pretty magical. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. read more

I strongly recommend against coming to this practice to see the Ferreras. However, if you do, you need to be strictly on guard for their dishonest billing practices. How they operate in my experience is as follows. 1. They ask for your insurance information and tell you services are covered since they are in network. However, they don't tell you what the actual cost of the service will be after insurance, or omit details about how exactly your insurance coverage applies. They just make you sign and agree that you are responsible for all bills. If you press them on details, they'll ignore you or tell you to review your policy and call your insurance. 2. You should know that when a dentist is in network with your insurance, the dentist agrees to cap their fees for services. They make less money, yeah, but they also get more patients because insurance plans will send their patients to in-network doctors. It's a decent trade off for the dentist if you think of how they save so much on marketing. 3. However, what this practice does is they will try and charge you the contracted amount, PLUS whatever amount that they duped you into agreeing to pay. After your service, you'll see that they billed your insurance for the services that you received, PLUS some sort of generic, undefined "miscellaneous services" to balance bill you more than the contracted amount. You should review your insurance's explanation of benefits (EOB) - those sorts of miscellaneous services are not covered. 4. So this is basically defrauding the insurance company. If you realize this after you've received services, contact your dental insurance company and ask them to review the claim. They'll take a look at the services you received, and if Ferrera did balance bill you, they'll make them pay it back, or kick them out of the network. The short of it is, though, you should avoid this office and save yourself the headache. There are plenty of dentists who provide quality services, and don't try to cheat you and your insurance company. read more

This review is in response to the front desk and not the dentists, staff, ect. I can only comment on "transparency". When I called to ask if they replace caps on root canals and its estimated cost without dental insurance, they were reluctant to answer. They would only tell me the cost of the X-ray but not the procedure, despite asking over and over again. Eventually after asking again and again, I finally received a total ballpark range of $2000-2200. This information was very difficult to get. I called the office down the street and they were able to answer my questions. The cost for the full procedure there $312, estimated When I called back to ask why their costs are almost 6X higher, they got really angry :) read more

When a friend of mine finds the perfect "5 star" contractor or business, he keeps it a secret. he does that for fear that others will overbook them and he won't be able to get an appointment. I don't agree. I was with my old dentist from the first day he opened, to the day he retired. I was his very last patient. Both Fiori's are UOP trained dentists as was my last dentist, and I found the friendly team they have assembled, to be of high quality. They are very careful right now about Covid procedures - I feel very comfortable about the way they have thought that out - and they are one of the few dentists open. Fiori was recommended to me separately by 2 people, whom I trust, and I researched Fiori before hand. At my first visit, Mr. Fiori spent a great deal of time with me and made me feel very welcome, which was important to me personally. I know that is the old school way, but that's the way I like to do business with people. I spent 30 years protecting the public so I am careful. Also, I like that you can do everything online and at home - get all the forms done in advance too and I like that they have invested in new equipment and the staff is using the newest procedures. My last procedure was "scaling & root planing" - normally painful - but not with them - after my dentist retired I didn't see anyone for 10 years - so I have lots of work to be done and I will be there many more times I will be in their office, but the way I was treated makes it easier to go back and hopefully they will also be with me until they decide to retire too. I think the dental business must be very competitive, because the one star reviews I saw on Yelp were not believable. Likely if you want a quick and dirty dentist, there are plenty of cut rate dentists available, so maybe Fiori is not for you, but my British mum gave me poor teeth genetics and I need a dental team that is trustworthy. Fiori takes my dental insurance and I've had no billing issues. Don't take Yelp advice - go check for yourself. read more

I had a cap put on a tooth. The modern equipment allowed for making the cap right then and there in the office. No going home with a temporary and coming back in two weeks. Dr. A. Ferrera did such a great job of preparing the tooth and installing the cap that when the anesthetic wore off, I had no sensations or discomforts at all. It was like it never happened. Dr Jane is my primary dentist but I have seen Dr Anthony in an emergency. I have been a few times the last last month due to my own neglect and they are professional and eager to help every time.
