I had a great experience at Bloom Dental. The receptionist was super friendly, whether it was over the phone or in-person at the check-in counter. I originally scheduled a last-minute appointment for the same day at 4pm as I was experiencing a lot of pain but then Bella called me back (as well as texted me) to let me know that there was a cancellation and that there was a 2:30pm opening so I was able to book that earlier time. I showed up 10 minutes earlier as I am a new patient and wanted to make sure things went smoothly. I only waited about 2-3 minutes before the assistant came to get me. (Unfortunately, I didn't catch her name). She greeted me and noticed that my left cheek was swollen and helped get me set up with x-rays right away. She was very warm and caring throughout the entire process. My dentist, Dr. Oganesian was very gentle, patient and kind. I had quite a few questions during my visit and he helped answer and explain everything thoroughly. This was my first time at this dental office and I felt very well taken care of the entire time I was there. I typically get very anxious at dentist appointments but everyone there made me feel welcome and comfortable (or as comfortable as I could've been given my condition). My boyfriend did a lot of research on dental offices in the area prior to choosing Bloom Dental for me as I needed urgent dental care and the soonest appointment I could find without compromising the quality of dental work. I'm very glad he chose this for me and thank you to the team at Bloom Dental. I'd highly recommend this dental office!

It was probably the most painful cleaning ever. She kept saying she loved how straight my teeth were but exaggeratedly, so I think it was just a way to make conversation. I wouldn't go back because it traumatized me how much a dental gum check (ie with that periodontal probe) could hurt. I've had them done all my life and this one made me wince more than once. I mistakenly brought my mom here before this incident and while she got a cleaning by the established hygienist, she also got a "free" dental CT image as we were considering implants. The doc said he couldn't do my mom's particular case because it was complex. To avoid more radiation at an actual specialist's appointment elsewhere, we asked for the CT but got the "only free if you stick with us" spiel. Do not think this policy is aligned to HIPAA, so watch out: not everything that Smiles is ethical.

I knew it was way past time for me to see a dentist; but I never pushed myself to see one because I always felt fine and thought I took good care of my teeth by myself. And honestly, I'm actually pretty fearful of dentists. But it's important to see a dentist, even if you feel fine. I came in, and all of my expectations and fears were upended. The check-in staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful. The assistant helped me through the easiest x-rays I've ever had. And Dr. Chu took care of my cleaning and fillings himself with a straightforward, kind, down-to-earth demeanor. The entire time I was in that chair, I kept thinking to myself, I need to be grateful for moments like this. I'm lucky enough to have found a healthcare professional who put in all of the work to become a licensed dentist, curated a clean and inviting practice in the Bay, assembled a team of hospitable and dutiful assistants who work completely aligned with each other, and made sure that I felt comfortable and cared for during my visit. Enhance Dentistry sets a really high bar for the rest of the Bay. Thanks so much for my appointment :)

I love working with Dr. Joanne Sotto!…read more Background story: I've been bad at going to the dentist my entire life, at one point did not go to one for several years, bam got a root canal after dealing with excruciating tooth pain (worst pain I've ever felt in my life that made me want to rip my mouth off), was told by another dentist that I'd need gum surgery or I wouldn't be able to get a crown for my root canal, ignored him because that scared me for another few years, finally had my temporary filling come off, then decided to do something about it in the past year... phew! I've hated the dentist all my life because no one made me feel safe or comfortable. I'd generally have male dentists spit on my face while they talked, have bad breath, tell me that if I don't get something done, I'd be the equivalent of someone mentally disabled, etc. It was not nice. When I met Dr. Sotto, she was everything I had ever wanted in a dentist. She was calm, grounded, kind, gentle, and very wise. She explained the pros and cons of things she suggested I get done matter-of-factly, she simplified how procedures were done in a way that was easy to understand, she made sure I was comfortable virtually the entire time she worked on me, and she was very patient and fun to talk to throughout everything. Where has she been my whole life?! The office space at Park Place Dental is very modern, clean, pretty, and easy to get to and park in the underground lot. I like that they have very technologically advanced dental tools that I never knew existed. There's usually another client or two being worked on when I visit, which personally makes me feel comfortable since there's activity in the space. Sometimes they call to ask you to come in slightly earlier or later, which is one thing they can do better - managing client time - so I try to not have any plans directly after my appointment. I've also had the pleasure of working with RDA Cristina and Serene He, the hygienist. Cristina is very practical and efficient, and Serene made my deep cleaning quite relaxing. Everyone here is very responsive to questions and concerns. Dental procedures are a huge source of anxiety for me, but I've felt at ease with the team at Park Place Dental of San Mateo. The front office team is also very nice, fun to work with, and transparent with insurance discussions. When I looked through my billing, their prices actually seem quite fair too, which you wouldn't think would be the case for this area (right next to a Whole Foods and stuff). Make sure you check to see if they have any promotions going on (first time visit, referral discount, etc). After your first visit, I love how you receive a goodie bag tailored to your needs. I got Colgate-sponsored mouthwash, floss, toothpaste, dark blue toothbrush, gum stimulator, and gum soft-picks. I've also received extra dental swag if I needed it after an appointment. I'm very happy I found a dental team I can trust here!

This is a longer review, but it's absolutely worth reading if you have the time…read more I'd like to start by sharing that I previously worked as a dental assistant. While I'm no longer in the field, I do have firsthand knowledge of dental practices and procedures--and I genuinely loved the work I did. Dr. Kim is truly exceptional. Having worked with many dentists, I can confidently say I have never seen the level of care, knowledge, patience, and compassion that Dr. Kim consistently provides to his patients. I found Dr. Kim while searching for a dentist for my elderly stepfather, who needed extensive dental work after decades of neglect. In his 70s, he hadn't seen a dentist in over 40 years and required full extractions in preparation for dentures. To complicate matters, he had recently suffered a heart attack, is on medications that make dental procedures more complex, and is not in the best overall health. From the very beginning, Dr. Kim took the time to truly understand my stepfather's situation--not just dentally, but medically as well. He approached his care with a thoughtful, conservative, and team-oriented mindset, which is not something you find with every dentist. Trust me when I say that. Although this has been a long and ongoing process, Dr. Kim continues to go above and beyond in ways that are far from typical. He personally follows up after hours, prioritizes continuity of care, and takes the time to thoroughly explain procedures to both patients and caregivers. He is always accessible for questions via calls, emails, or other communication, and he makes every patient feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. I truly cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kim. His level of dedication, communication, and willingness to take on complex cases is rare and deserves recognition. Had I known about him earlier, I may have stayed in the dental field because providers like him make such a meaningful difference. His office staff is equally wonderful--friendly, professional, and supportive--and the office itself is always clean, bright, and up to date. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Kim to anyone looking for a dentist who is not only knowledgeable but also deeply compassionate and committed to patient care. I am incredibly grateful for everything he has done for my stepfather, especially for making him feel respected, understood, and comfortable throughout this journey. Thank you, Dr. Kim and team, for being one of the best dental practices I've ever experienced. Please understand I wished I could truly get across how amazing Dr Kim is and I hope him and his team sees this review and accepts the amount of gratitude I hold to them

I only got to see Dr. Konrad a handful of times before he retired but I can say that he was a…read morecompletely unremarkable dentist in the best possible way. I never had any remarks to make about him because he did everything anyone ever expects a dentist to do. He listened to your problem, took a look around, proposed a solution or two and told you how much each one was going to cost. If something he did didn't work out, he'd have you back to correct the problem. All very normal and fine and not something you run around talking about for any reason. Shortly after his farewell I had an old crown pop off while flossing. Not the end of the world but not something you want to leave for too long either so I set up an appointment with the new guy because I didn't feel like hunting around town for a new patient appointment. The crown was damaged but I didn't have $3K to blow on a new one so the new guy said he could re-cement the old one in and see how much longer it would last for $350, I said fine and we did just that. He seemed very ill-at-ease and awkward throughout the visit--like he really wanted to be anywhere else--but it was all over and done with soon enough. As with most crown placements, what feels okay in the chair after you've had your jaw wedged open for 20 minutes doesn't always feel okay once you go home and start actually chewing on it so some minor adjustments were necessary. I've never had any dentist in any town charge me for follow up adjustments immediately after they'd just glued the thing in, but new guy wanted another $150 for his five minutes after the grinding had been done. I wasn't in the mood to argue about it so I just paid and left but it's really been bugging me ever since. Especially considering the stoic, unconcerned attitude I had to push through just to get him to do his damn job. I get that he didn't make the crown so he might not feel any pressing need to guarantee someone else's work but it still just felt punitive and gross and he very clearly didn't want anything to do with me so I have little choice but to reciprocate the sentiment. Trust fund kids and other little emperors may very well have an altogether different experience than I did.

The team was always friendly, knew how to work with my insurance, and did a great job with my cleanings, whitening, and any necessary tooth fixes. I started with Dr. Wong after another dentist (who shall remain nameless) told me that I needed a lot of work, including having my fillings replaced ("because they're old"). Suspecting the recommendation was a little odd, I asked for recommendations from my colleagues, who all seemed to go to Dr. Wong and had great experiences. That says a lot! From the start Dr. Wong developed a good rapport and never recommended any unnecessary treatments. We had more than a decade-long relationship of visits (including 4 cleanings per year!). I moved out of state and that's the only reason I'm unable to continue with him & his team, but I'd still be going given the great degree of confidence I have in him & his team. Thanks Dr. Wong and Team!

EDIT: To address the response to my review, I think you definitely stand by the professionalism of…read moreyour team... you stand by it way over to the side of the chart in the 'unprofessional' area of the spectrum. Your team shared personal and private information behind my back. I told ONE person about my divorce and then when I arrived at an appointment I was ambushed by comments from someone who should not have known about it. In what world is that professional? In what world is being offered used chapstick from the pocket of one of your hygienists professional? In what world is mangling my teeth and then giving up and calling it a day professional? This entire experience was a total waste of at least $15,000 plus the time it took. Doctor Michael Wong? More like "Doctor" Michael WRONG. After some additional experiences, I have a complete reversal of my previous review. Dr. Wong did a poor job on my invisalign and my veneers to the point that both need to be re-done and I will have to pay for both again and go through the entire process again for both at another clinic. Dr. Wong did not address the tilt angle of my teeth with invisalign, and the force of my bite was focused on one misplaced veneer. That veneer broke 3 times and then was replaced. The replacement never felt right, and has always been painful, achy, sensitive, too sharp, too rough, and feels like it's going to break at any moment. I have informed Dr. Wong about this since the first day it was attached. Dr. Wong's response was to continue to reshape it, which did nothing to address the underlying issues. Now he refuses to do any further work on it, saying he is unable to do it to my satisfaction. Excuse me, but we're not even at a place where MY satisfaction should be taken into account. It's not done to ANYONE'S satisfaction yet. It's not DONE yet. You can't just mangle someone's mouth and throw your hands in the air and say "well, I'm out." That's being a butcher, not a doctor. To Dr. Wong's credit, he refunded me in full for the ONE veneer. But it's really all of the veneers and the invisalign that should be refunded, plus I should get compensation for the time, pain, and suffering I went through in order to put things right. On top of that, I have to say, his holiday cards are really creepy. He only hires women and he makes them dress up in pseudo-sexy outfits and then poses with them around him for these photos. He is either incredibly naïve of the fact that the implication is that his staff serves as his personal harem or outright proud of it, but either way I really feel sorry for the staff having to go through that every year. Also I want to point out that the staff gossips and shares personal, private information with each other inappropriately. I told ONE person, a hygienist, that I was getting a divorce and on my next visit to the office the person at the front desk had all sorts of comments about it, which served as an unwelcome reminder of a painful process that should be private and was completely irrelevant to what I had come to the office for. It was incredibly offensive and rude.
