It's a wonderful option to have your kids be able to stay enrolled during their "kindergarten" year so as to have a true "full day" kindergarten rather than the typical half-day. Our son has thrived there the past two years and never complains of being "bored" as he used to do. He's learned to read and write and count and more. Once a week they have Japanese culture and language lessons and they grow to love their Japanese teacher. Several times a year they put on programs where all the students sing and dance, learning various cultures, languages, and styles along the way. The interaction of this school and our own efforts have been completely in sync and we will be sad to leave them but are truly grateful for the solid foundation they have helped give our child.

They offer half day or full day preschool and kindergarten, plus before and after care at a very minimal fee! They do field trips twice a year, and do a craft and show and tell on Fridays. The teachers/caretakers are what make a school/daycare a good experience or not. Lori and Jessie have been the primary teachers and both are extremely dedicated and care a lot about the children. Lori has always gone the extra mile to keep me updated on my daughter. My daughter runs up to her excited every day. The daycare is tidy/orderly, they do a lot of crafts, they provide healthy snacks, if you forget your kids lunch they won't call you and tell you to bring something, they'll find something for them to eat, etc. They try to be as accommodating as possible. I do think they need another full-time teacher, for support, in case anyone gets sicks, and just to make things easier for them. I also think whoever owns LMA should be more involved in helping the Salem location grow.

Every step of the way her teachers were nurturing and encouraging, creating an environment where she has thrived. Socially she is still reserved but she has grown immensely. Our family members always comment on how far she's come and how confident she is. If she hadn't been in an environment where she felt safe and allowed to explore things at her own pace I don't think we would have had the level of success we have had with her social issues. Her teachers are extraordinary and she adores them. I have experience with another popular preschool in town and the level of compassion and care from the teachers here at MDC is far above. Academically she's on point, if not ahead. She has a late birthday so, as of now, she's not in kindergarten yet but academically she is at the same level as her friends in Kindergarten at a S/K school out south. At MDC she began reading when she was 4 and now, at 5, she is reading compound words and even some long vowels! She knows all letter sounds, several blends, recognizes sight/cvc words, creates her own story books, writes numbers, counts to 100... but beyond that she's loving learning about other cultures, the world, and art. They helped my son build a lot of confidence and autonomy. He always come home with a smile for the most part. When we first started the first month of drop off was hard but they help him feel safe and secure. If you are like me, a worrier, I would caution you against enrolling in the Newberg location downtown. Tiffany has two location one in Dundee and one in Newberg. I wanted to enroll in the Dundee location but it was full. I am not comfortable at all with the traffic of the homeless population going threw there. If this doesn't bother you then disregard. My grandchild was in the pre-school for two 1/2 years and was constantly berated, bullied and terrified....not by the other children, but by the staff. The staff has no concept of child development and have very little training. They should be there to guide, teach and promote healthy self esteem, but instead they belittle and cause emotional damage to vulnerable minds at a crucial point in development. This causes lasting damage. They should be investigated and shut down. I am sure there are other parents out there who are afraid to speak out for fear of repercussions. Instead of speaking up, they just pull their kids out....this has to stop.
