I rarely leave reviews like this, but after repeated problems at Chemeketa, I feel like future…read morestudents should know what my experience has been. My biggest frustration has been a pattern of poor communication and advising where relatively small failures by the college ended up having major consequences for my education. The most recent example involved my financial aid. I fully acknowledge that I submitted my FAFSA late. That part is on me. However, after submitting it, I specifically contacted Chemeketa and asked to be notified as soon as they received my financial aid information and my award letter was available. That notification never came. After waiting, I finally contacted FAFSA myself to figure out what was going on, only to learn that Chemeketa had apparently already had my information for roughly three weeks. By the time I figured this out and could deal with Fall registration, many of the classes I needed were already full. A simple notification could have made a significant difference. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident. I originally attended Chemeketa pursuing a nursing-related academic path. Despite that, my academic planning never properly incorporated the science labs I needed to stay on that path. By the time I realized what had happened, it had significantly affected my ability to continue toward that goal. I eventually changed direction and am now finishing an AGS before continuing my education elsewhere. Another thing I find incredibly frustrating is advisor availability. Chemeketa opens registration for the next term relatively early, yet there have been periods when advisors were unavailable for an extended time during the exact window students are supposed to be planning and registering. What is the point of academic advising if students can't reasonably access advisors when they actually need help choosing classes and staying on track? While looking at other schools for where I will continue my education, I have discussed my experiences with advisors at other institutions. They have been genuinely surprised when I explained some of the registration and advising issues I've dealt with here. Then there was my experience with instructor Justus Ballard, which became another major source of frustration. What started as a problem in one writing course escalated far beyond what I ever expected a normal disagreement between a student and instructor to become. I ultimately had to take my concerns beyond the instructor and involve higher levels of administration. Regardless of anyone's opinion about that particular dispute, the entire experience left me feeling that resolving a legitimate student concern was unnecessarily difficult and adversarial rather than constructive. Not to mention that I sad in a Writing Class after that, with 4 more victims of Mr. Ballard. The school had to pay all of our second class tuition. Because of Ballards character and behavior shortcomings. But because he has been there so long, he can continue to do whatever he feels like. That situation, combined with the advising problems and now the financial-aid communication issue, is why I'm giving Chemeketa one star. Any one of these things by itself could be written off as a mistake. After enough of them, however, it starts to feel like a pattern. Students invest a tremendous amount of money, time, and effort into college. I understand that students have responsibilities too, but student services should actually function as student services. Something may not technically be written into someone's individual job description, but helping students successfully navigate the institution should be the overall goal. My frustration isn't aimed at every employee at Chemeketa, and I have encountered good people here. Like Mr DeGreat. My problem is with an institutional experience where I have repeatedly felt like I had to fight through unnecessary obstacles instead of having the college help me stay on track. And with Mr Ballard, because he has inevitably proven, that he should not be in education as an Instructor. I'm looking forward to completing my AGS and moving on to another institution. I genuinely hope Chemeketa takes complaints like these seriously and improves things for future students, because college is difficult and expensive enough without administrative and advising problems making it harder. And Instructors who try to ruin young people's life's, simply because they have a different political or religious view than the Instructor.

This school does not care about its students. I had to withdraw from two classes after my mother…read morewas diagnosed with terminal cancer, and unfortunately I missed the withdrawal deadline by just one day. Given the severity of my situation, I hoped the school would offer at least a partial refund, but that was not the case. I waited months for my appeal decision, only to be told I was still responsible for over $800 for classes I attended for less than two weeks. During that time, I sent multiple emails asking for updates and often waited weeks just to receive a response. This experience felt incredibly dismissive and disappointing, especially from an institution that claims to care about its students.

Our daughter is finishing her second year at Corban and it has been a wonderful experience for her…read more She has applied herself and is graduating in 3 years. She lives in the dorms (which are old but roomy). This university provides a loving and truly Christian environment. A breath of fresh air in todays university system!

Corbin is a wonderful university that reaches out to the world with the good news of Jesus Christ…read more I attended Corban (WBBC) for two years and perhaps the best two years of my life before 25 years old. Great teachers, wonderful campus full of God's beauty. I would recommend attending. Their music programs are wonderful.

The school is a joke. I owe close to $12,000.00 for nothing! The staff was gossiping about each…read moreother. My 6 week internship was with a doctor who was crazy and the director of the practice was a so called "priestess". I had approximately an hour with a patient. All 6 weeks were sorting out hard copies of medical records because the doctor had just bought another practice and had files everywhere. She had 3 different schools sending her students to do grunt work. In the end, I never got to work as a medical assistant. I also was not given a certificate because I did not have proof of shot records. Not because of grades that I made,which were alright and passing. Because I couldn't supply them my shot records. I'm an army brat. My parents moved all over the states as well as Germany. I was in my 40's so finding those records are harder. I've gone to the vital statistics and they have no record either. The last month of class the school was sold to Institute of Technology. When I started it was Valley Medical. So unfair.....and we weren't even allowed to keep the books I paid for!

The Willamette University Star Trees is an outdoor artistic installation of sorts where the trees…read morehave a stellar formation if you look up. It's a natural oasis in the midst of a capitol city. It's literally a short walk from the capitol building. There's a collection of creepy statues depicting a 19th century graduation- more of Depressing Abbey than Downton Abbey. They're worth a photo op, along with these beautiful trees.
