Our oldest just finished kindergarten and your youngest just finished Pre-K. They charge by the week, not by the month. For our two kids full time we pay on average about $950.00 for the month. I say "on average" because some months have 5 weeks in them. The school does have some christian undertones in it's instruction. Although it is not a "christian school". I've found my kids coming home and telling me things about God every now and then. They go on field trips and outing on a regular basis. Just from short memory I can think of trips to the Capitol, to the Library, to Applebees and to Home Depot. They also give swimming lessons, gymnastics classes. They also do baking day every so often. I forget how often, but at least once a week. And our kids have participated in two school plays each year that they've been there. My daughter who has always been extremely shy, has done very well there. My son starts first grade this year, and he's well ahead of the level needed for first grade. I don't know if that's because of Lollipop or because of his mother, but I think it should be noted. We recommend Lollipop to anyone in the Keizer area.

My son attended for one year and I had so many issues beginning with the owner first of all . She is so rude and does this all for the money, she has absolutely no passion or love for the children . She never greeted me or my family. She is so bad when it comes to responding to a concern and when did respond it was in a very bothered and rude way . She demanded for every parent to bring in a snack every 1st of the month to feed every student but yet the snacks I brought in were never handed out . They later came up with an app where we could see updates on children's progress, pretty neat but it was used for the first 2 weeks and never again after that . I messaged my sons teacher several times about progress and I was told that there were too many students to deal with in order to keep tabs on my sons progress on a daily. Staff are not very friendly either only one I can say was great was teacher Jesse . I asked about leaving my son an extra 15 min after closing here and there when running late And I was charged an extra $15. If I was a couple min late I was charged given that my agreement was from 9:30-3:30. I had to be there exactly at 3:30 or I'd be charged. I brought up my concerns to other parents and many felt the same way. I can go on and on about all the issues I've had but I've said enough to state how I feel about this place . I do not recommend this place at all !!! The set up , the curriculum and the environment for the kids is great but when the owner and the staff don't make you feel welcome, it pretty much ends there. You should always feel good about who you leave your kids with, not with fear that they will not feel cared for .

A Life-Changing Experience at Salem Academy…read more Middle school can be a tough time for kids, but Salem Academy's Bridge 56 program offers something truly special. It gives students the independence they need while still providing the support and guidance to help them succeed. Our son started at Salem Academy in 5th grade, and this school has changed his life in ways we never could have imagined. Unlike public schools, Salem Academy looks at the whole child--focusing not just on academics, but also on character and personal growth. It's a safe, encouraging place where kids can learn, grow, and become who they were meant to be, surrounded by positive role models and supportive peers. Now, as we approach graduation, our family will forever be grateful for our time at Salem Academy.

Valley Enquiry Charter School has been taken over by a selfish school board and is going downhill…read more Last year, toward the end of the school year, the school board decided to fire all of the Salem-Keizer teachers in the school because they didn't want to be connected to Salem-Keizer anymore. They wanted to have charter teachers. They did this even though they can't afford to pay the teachers properly or give them proper insurance, and the majority of parents and staff disagreed. In fact, the original charter teachers quit when their Salem-Keizer counterparts were fired because of how they felt about the board and their decision. The board scrambled to quickly replace the entire staff over the summer, not leaving any planning time for the new teachers. Due to this, my son's 4th grade class has had endless problems, and his teacher is now out on permanent leave. So, we lost all our teachers, and the teachers we did get have been struggling, and the board has not once acknowledged that they have caused any problems or created any hurt. Instead of taking any accountability or acknowledging the problems that they've caused, this board wants to push ahead with expanding into Middle School. You see, their kids are younger, so the board members who are parents won't be affected by any problems they cause in the middle school because they'll have time to work it out before their kids get there. That's why they won't wait or listen to concerns; they care only for their own self interests. You may not be aware of this, but in Oregon charter school boards are allowed to vote themselves into power. Other charter schools have seen how unfair this is and have included staff in the votes. But not this board. This board has only shown over and over again that they want to have absolute control and power, they do not care about anyone else's opinion, and they will do whatever they want regardless of how bad it is for the students and the school

Curriculum themes (seasons, colors, holidays, etc) are integrated with reading, pre-writing and storytelling, counting, art, and music (my daughter loves to sing the songs she's learned) and biblical stories. She is proud to know about rules, consequences, manners, and personal responsibility: i.e. clean up, sharing, communicating, etc. and has made many friends. She loves her teacher and the day care staff, all of whom are warm, knowledgeable, gentle and supportive. And she comes home happy! What could be improved? At drop-off, we working parents are in a rush, and the daycare staff isn't as cohesive as I believe they could be in helping with the transition . . . it's a little bumpy. I've seen where teachers and staff come to the car to get the kids and bring them in: I liked it because it saves time and the transition is clear-cut. Other than this minor issue, Sonshine School has been a blessing for us and I would highly recommend it.
