When ever my wife and are in the Northwoods, this is a must stop. Very relaxed atmosphere with plenty of learning opportunities

I highly recommend inspecting the equipment before leaving the premises, as I rented a defective board, and no refund was given. We initially rented two SUP boards (fishing/swimming) for two days. My son had troubles with the fishing SUP board as the foam top had strips that were coming loose. Loose enough for my son to be tripping on them, and he finally told me didn't want it for the second day. So I returned it that same day, and extended the second SUP board two more days since we could still use that one. When I returned the second SUP board I was charged $60ish dollars. I asked multiple times if this was all we were responsible for since we had a defective fishing board, and was assured that was I was responsible for so I even gave them a tip of $15. For me that's a big tip, because I thought they were really going above to make things right. I didn't realize that they still charged me the initial $299. They still fully charged me for the early returned fishing SUP board, and then they substituted the fishing board for the swimming board for an extra day. The fishing board is more than the swimming board, so I was overcharged for that day. Maybe they didn't charge me for some straps for one day, but that was all they really did. I offered a $50 credit on another rental, for the third day. I couldn't even use the credit in the store to get some trinket, I was expected to make another three day SUP board rental. No thank you. read more

Tldr: great time, go back there early spring for longer tube trip. I can't say enough about how great of an experience we had doing the lazy river ride down from here. The staff is amazingly accommodating and make you feel right at home. My small group of 3 had an appointment, and a longer than expected breakfast. The staff was super friendly and very easy going. The trip is an easy 2+ hour and my only though is it could be longer. The place seems to be located somewhere in the middle of the path. So it is not the type where you start off, or end up by where you are tubing, you get driven and then picked up. They have a pro shop which has basics things that you may have forgotten if it is an impromptu tube trip. We lucked out on a party cloudy Saturday with80 degrees. They also have canoeing and even paddle board yoga. The tubes have a little head rest which is nice when laying belly up. The tubes also have connectors so they can tie up nice and easily. They have 2 can holders for your beverages. As with all river trips, no glass. I would also suggest pony up for the extra cooler tube it really rounds out the experience. read more

Glad we checked them out day before we planned on doing a kayaking excursion! Owner & staff were very pleasant, friendly & explained all needed things, procedures & expectations so that the following day we were prepared & reservation fulfilled. What Nicole has now posted one year later is full of fabrications. What her husband told us when we complained about the charge for the weed removal was a virtual quote, that it would take hours for him to explain everything that needed to be done, and he couldn't do that with every renter or he would never get anything done. There was no orientation done ever....a complete fabrication. I made the reservation at the shop several weeks ahead of the time that my family would be using the boards, and received no instruction. I never saw the boards nor the paddles at that time. They dropped the boards off at our home when we weren't there, so there was no opportunity for an orientation. They overcharged the credit card from what was negotiated between the owner and my husband and brother in law. Both of them will attest to that. They will also each attest that the damage that he indicated initially over the phone was done to the board, mysteriously disappeared when they showed up at the shop to contest the damage. When he called me, he is the one who specified the toys, boats and trampolines in the back of our home on the lake side, so of course, they scoped it out. He is the one who indicated that he knew that someone had jumped off the trampoline onto the board. None of that is visible from the street side of the house where the boards were left. My review is accurate as to what happened to us when we rented from WOA, and how much we were charged. If after reading it, you still opt to rent from there, that's obviously your choice. Eagle River is a small community and I can understand why Nicole felt compelled to post a response. It is not factual - and granted, it would be hard to remember the specific circumstances of one transaction nearly one year later. That's why I wrote my review shortly after the incident occurred. My purpose is to pass along my experience, and mine alone. There may be many other people who've had great experiences with them. Ours was not -- this year we rented from Coontail Sports in Woodruff, and couldn't be happier. We received two high end boards, paddles, leashes and the equipment to put the boards on our car carrier for around $600. read more

We booked a kayak trip while up in Eagle River. Cool little place. Very friendly staff. They had quite a variety of different routes you could take depending on what your interests were. From kayaks to SUPs they had a range. My only issue was they gave me a 9' kayak and it just doesn't handle well on the river. Constantly correcting yourself. Which I knew in the back of my mind to go 10' at least and should have asked for that but went with what they said. The directions on what to do when you got to the lake were a smidge confusing but we figured it out. Was a very enjoyable trip. They were very quick with the pickup when we called them also. Would definitely use them again. read more

Had an amazing time with the family. We have a 14 & 9 year old and rented two double canoes. The wind was against us today, so it took us around 3 hours to get to the first checkpoint. Nichole and her team are fantastic and my Old Town kayak buying experience at Wilderness Outdoor Adventures was excellent. They helped me get the Kayak on the roof of my car and advised me of the best way to secure it to survive the long journey home in the rain. WOA is also a dog friendly business. read more

My husband and I love renting from WOA. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. In addition, they are excellent listeners, which makes their recommendations reliable and valid. We have tried several styles of SUPs and kayaks with great enjoyment. They offer a wide variety of products to accommodate everyone from thrill seeker to middle age lady with an old dog. Went there the week of the Fourth this summer. We needed to wait more than half an hour on the side of a rather busy highway for a pick up after tubing. The exit on the river was poorly marked, and even then you had to trek through the woods with your tubes to get to the pickup. Overall just not a pleasant experience with the business. River itself was a nice, pretty trip. read more

The experience as a whole was ok. This was our first time EVER doing something like this, but the employees were very rude, continuously cut us off when we spoke and never really truly explained things. When we got dropped off the "driver" stayed in the gravel parkway pointed to a trail and said go down there and get in the water. Call us when you get to checkpoint 1 and get out and checkpoint 2. Well checkpoint 2 was a mud pit with old carpets and plywood that only led to the busy road. When we called I was told to not go by the street it was dangerous to go to the dirt trail and head right til you see a gravel turnaround. We went back down and no dirt trail, so we called again and they would not answer our call. I had to call from a different number before they would answer our call. Bad bad business practice. Anyway, the second person told us we need to walk along the busy street to the gravel turnaround. So here we are walking along a busy street with water tubes, coolers, kids and life jackets. Getting eaten alive by bugs as we wait for them to pick us up. I don't know that we'd do this again. At least not with them. read more

First time vacation to Eagle River with the family. Wife's birthday! She wanted to try paddle boarding. Rented two SUP boards. Great service from the guys at Wildwood. They loaded them in my truck, gave a tutorial on how to use them. When I returned them, I was impressed that they remembered me and that it was for my wife's birthday, figuring how many people they see in a day I did not think they would remember. I love doing business with small family establishments. You can tell that Jason and Nichole really love what they do. They were informative without overwhelming me. They really made the whole experience fun. I really love paddle boarding. They are very conveniently located and have a great selection. Pricing was simple and fair. I damaged the board I was on the second day I was out and was up front with them about what happened. They fixed it at a reasonable rate. I will be going back to Wildwood next time I'm in town. I would not recommend this location for any of your water sport needs,Especially if you have a big group. A classic tourist trap; overpriced, oversold, and not anything to write home about in the overall experience, especially because of the price. I wasn't expecting to wait on the side of the highway for over an hour with my 3, 5, and 7 year old kids whom were tired and hungry not to mention I couldn't get ahold of anyone from Wildwood, sounds like great service huh? I have spent my summers in Eagle River since I was born. Now I bring my husband and daughter. I highly recommend WOA. They are wonderful. The staff will take the time to talk to you and answer all of your questions. This is a rare find today!!! The whole staff is very knowledgeable. They will even deliver the boards and kayaks to your location which was a must for us because we don't have a roof rack. The have a huge supply of rentals so they don't run out. I had the absolute best experience with Jason and Nichole, as well as everyone at Wildwood Outdoor Adventures! I've never been paddle boarding before and they were great about telling me everything I needed to know. How to get up and down, how to paddle, how to load and unload our boards-everything! I love how they offer such a great variety of boards for every skill level. I was lucky enough to get to try a couple different types of boards and fell in love with one in particular. I can't wait to go back to purchase my favorite one. Nichole and Jason really went out of their way to answer every question I had and went above and beyond for me. Rented 2 stand up paddle boards, initially for one day. Told them we were complete beginners, had never done it before, asked what we needed to know. Both owners (Nichole & Jason) said "All you need to know is to start and end on your knees on the board, that's all there is to it. Have a great time, you'll love it." No special instructions at all. We used them, loved it, called back the next morning to extend the rental to 2 days, were told no problem. We had noticed that one of the paddles was broken - not height adjustable - (so not everyone in our group could use it), but we didn't make a big deal of it. On day 2, that paddle completely snapped & the paddle piece broke off, leaving a kid stranded in the middle of the lake. When we brought the boards back the next day and told Jason what happened he said "Oh, well that was a really old paddle so I guess I won't charge you for it." No apologies for leaving a kid stranded in the middle of the lake, he said "Well, he could use his hands to paddle back. It's not that hard." Nice. Then, after his employee personally removed the boards from our car top, he says "Oh, well look at that scratch on the board. I'm going to have to charge you a damage fee for that." There was about a half-inch tear in the foam covering at the tip of the board. Barely visible and wouldn't impact usage at all. He charged $35 to have it fixed. My husband and I told him that we hadn't seen that when we used the board. He says "Well,maybe it happened when you loaded it on the car or unloaded it." HIS guy was the one that unloaded it!. When we objected he got really angry and rude, says "I'm going to charge you for the broken paddle too, then." He accused us of being rough with the boards or having a dog on the board (neither was even close to true. We used them at a totally quiet lake, just a family, and he hadn't given us any instructions of how to treat them to avoid scratches or tears in the foam.) He was a total ass to deal with. When we looked at our bill he had also added a fee for each of the foam blocks (4) and each tie down (2) required to tie the boards to our car, X 2, for each day we had the board! How ridiculous is that??? Talk about nickel and diming! Finally, when Nichole charged for the second day rental, she charged the same fee as the first day ($45 each). I pointed out that the brochure says a 2-day rental is discounted to $80. She told me that was wrong, she had no idea what I was talking about, it was a set fee, $45/day, no multi day discount. She said that unless I could show her the brochure she wouldn't reduce it. I told her the brochure was at the resort I was staying at, and the brochures were provided to them by WOA. I asked her for a copy of the brochure, and first she claimed not to have it, then when I pointed right at it she pulled it out and the multi day pricing was literally crossed out with a sharpie. Finally she gave in on that, but had major attitude about it and still ended up charging me $10 too much. The boards themselves were fun, but clearly they make their $$ by screwing over the customer with extra charges. Plenty of other places to rent from. Don't rent from them. read more

My husband and I went to a demo for kayaks that Wildwood Outdoor Adventures was hosting in Eagle River. We are new to kayaking and we got to try a lot of different kayaks and ask questions about the different boats. We ended up buying two Old Town Loon 126 kayaks, which are awesome!!! We had to wait a little while for them to be delivered from the manufacturer but when they came in Jason helped us put together the Malone roof racks we bought, load our boats on the truck and gave us helpful tips about traveling with the boats. I thought that Nicole and Jason (owners) were very enthusiastic and happy to help with our questions. They are very busy (obviously popular) but still took the time to take care of us. We also purchased our paddles and life vests from them. I like to shop at places where the people are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do. I would recommend this shop to my family and friends. read more

We rented two SUP boards here while staying on Little Saint Germain Lake. Jason came to the resort to show guests how to use the boards. You can tell this guy is passionate about water sports and couldn't be friendlier or more knowledgeable. Jason even took my 4-year-old daughter out for a spin on the SUP board to show me how to take her out. She and I ended up having an awesome adventure paddling through the lily pads and looking at the local wildlife. I would absolutely recommend this place and we will definitely be back to support this business. read more
