I set up an e-bike rental for my mom using their online booking. I also called the store to confirm the rental and explain that my mom would be the person picking up the bike. My mom was reluctant to rent an e-bike but after picking it up, she was so glad she did! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The e-bike was great and allowed her to enjoy the full ride from Boulder Junction to Manitowish with her grandchildren. I would recommend renting an e-bike from Coontail to fully enjoy the bike trails in the area. read more

I have been coming to this location of Coontail for a long time. I love the quality and selection for men and women. My daughters love the styles they offer for teenage to young adult women. I like that they don't just cater to that age. Friendly staff and I like the way the store feels at this location. Always find something! It is also right off the bike trails. Coontail is a small but well stocked grocery/gas station. I am always happy to find what I want and a nice beer selection.

I shopped at Coontail recently and not only do they have a great selection of clothing and shoes, the staff are fantastic and help you out when you need it. The owner Lisa was in that same day and she even stepped up and helped us out. I am waiting for a sweater to come in, in a size they did not have for me when I was there and if I don't like how it looks they wont charge me, but rather put it in the rack with the other ones that were not my size. We were on a biking trip across Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan last August and my husbands back bike tire had about 5 flats. We couldn't figure out what the problem was. Took it in to a bike shop in Madison and in Manitowoc. Both places were super and thought they figured it out. It wasn't until we found Mike at this bike shop that we had luck. To some, the north woods is all about bug spray, mosquitoes the size of sparrows, fishing gear, men who forget to open doors (occasionally), and 99% humidity. But for those of us who love finding hidden gems, try Coontail. Especially, if amid the hiking, biking, and boating you need to return to your girly roots and 'dress up', then go to Coontail. This would also be true if your backpack was dragged away by an interested black bear, who, for those of us who understand them, is only a very large squirrel, with fur. Coontail has great clothes and accessories at fairly decent prices, especially if you happen to hit them during their tent sale (which I did last week). Awesome selection and awesome savings. I mean, who would think Patagonia could be so very affordable. And for you manly men of the north woods, fear not! They got great stuff for you too! Kids stuff, as well. Amazingly, Coontail has figured out that to stay in business, even when your business is largely about the "tourist population", you have got to provide unique, quality products at a fair price. They really messed up, these ladies really messed up. An unfriendly cashier and bagger disregarded state liquor laws, and made me and family feel very unwelcome. We were not allowed to buy alcohol with three valid IDs (ages 23-31), because I had lost my ID during Covid. They still did not understand our situation after I explained that I had a photo of my 23 year old Valid License on my phone available to be seen. They put a bad taste in our mouth, after we had shopped at Coontail Market for years visiting Boulder Junction. We won't let this ruin our night, but we will not forget this. read more

Went to Boulder Junction location to rent a tandem kayak with a truck bed extender, which the staff assembled and installed for us. Absolutely first rate outfitter of human powered water sports, bikes and sportswear! Lisa, Stephen and the staff have over the past 15 years gotten me equipment when others couldn't, stood by their products when others weren't and went the extra mile to deliver a first class buying experience when frankly others don't even know what that looks like. By way of example, they delivered a Northstar ultra light canoe, two Hobie outback's, a Malone trailer and a specialized e bike this spring when North Star had 11 month back logs and e-bikes were impossible to get with any selection - they have great supplier relationships and have built a first class support network. My task was to organize (from Chicago) a trip to the North Woods for 9 French visitors, and kayaking and biking were on the agenda for the 2 days we had. I got in touch with Lisa at the Boulder Junction store, and she helped me put together the whole thing: selecting the kayaks, suggesting the route along the River, and organizing the delivery and pick up. The same for the bikes, which were delivered - and picked up - from the house we were renting. Lisa, Steve, Rich and Pam could not have been more helpful or accommodating. They even scouted the river routes we were thinking about kayaking to make sure we were going to be safe, but also that we would be having a great time. The weather that first Saturday in May was fantastic - 70 degrees and sunny. I wouldn't put it past the Coontail team to have had something to do with that.... Everything from fat bike fitting to how to maneuver on my paddleboard to what is the best way to use the magic carpet. Their customer service was outstanding each time I went in. I came to Boulder Junction to participate in a triathlon and since I live on the other side of the country, I needed to rent a bike. I called a few times as my travel plans changed, and each time, the staff at Coontail went above and beyond to help me! I stopped in the day before the race and asked if I could see the bike I rented and check the fit. I knew that there was a chance they'd say no (since they were delivering the bike to the event) but again, they were more than happy to help. Not only did we end up changing frame size, but they also got the seat and everything all set up for me! However: a) the items are never on sale, except at the change of seasons b) the staff is not that friendly or helpful (seems like all they want to do is check you out and that's it c) there are not enough dressing rooms when it is busy d) the curtains on the 2 of the 3 dressing rooms (in the men's area) don't really close so you feel like you really don't have much privacy. read more

I absolutely love this store. The grocery store has been a wonderful addition to Boulder Junction. Steve and Lisa make every effort to keep prices competitive. The clothing store has a great collection of gifts and clothing for you. I recently purchased a coat that was way cheaper than the tag because of their donate a coat promotion and receive 20% off as well as a 20% gift card. All the associates are so friendly and helpful.
