Update: went 2 years later and did the extreme course with my 12 and 14 year old kids after the classic course. It was really fun, and it's quite the workout if you're not usually climbing. Friendly staff who are helpful and great and explaining things. We had booked, paid, and filled waivers ahead of time but checking in took 15 minutes, as they only had one window open. In the harnessing area, we were there on a weekday morning and we were the only ones in our own group so there was no wait. We started with the classic course. There was a staff who stayed with us for most of the first half, and he said we finished the first part fast and caught up to a slow family. So he suggested we do the next course and then come back, which we did. He left us after awhile so when we went to the extreme course, no one was there to show us what to do and it's a different lock system so I had to go find someone. The extreme course is pretty challenging in my opinion, and this was our 3rd time at WildPlay. I'm a middle-aged mom who doesn't work out and managed to do it! My arms were sore after but it was fun !! There was an overweight kid who had a hard time just climbing a ladder on the classic course - so you have to be someone fit to do it but I think for the majority of active people it's doable if you have an open mind, like challenges, zip lines and climbing. I accompanied my son on the kid's course. It was fun and different but I have some feedback, especially regarding safety. - not enough staff. We waited a LONG time after getting the harness to walking toward the course for a short demo. During that time waiting, someone could have walked us to the course so the kids could practice with the hook because many kids struggled on the course. - Having smaller groups would avoid the back log of people when a kid wanted to get off the course and if people are slower. It could easily get bottle necked. About 30 of us had to back track since he was one of the first people in the group who was scared on the first run. Imagine if it was half way through. - Younger kids should have a parent with them on the course as mandatory. The kid in front of my son was having troubles with the hook and the guide was rarely to be seen. She didn't stay with the group long and we could never find another guide. The child's mother had no interest in helping from below! I ended up helping this young child a few times or we would be stuck behind him for a while. A second guide came much later, but when the kid behind us got caught on the 2nd zip line, my husband had to help the kid after him to get back to the top to loosen the rope. That was a dangerous situation. More staff needed, especially on the kid's course, if it is not expected that parents join their kids. For some parts, a parent wouldn't even be able to help if they can't reach higher from on the ground. They ask your feedback in a survey and I also emailed personally, but no response. I would go back, but try going on a weekday or early morning during less busy times. read more

Super fun! Me and my 9 year old niece did the classic course and it was a perfect mix of fun and challenge. Felt super safe all the way through. Looking forward to going back to try the extreme course. There were a bunch of kids between 9-14 doing the classic course so if you're wondering if it's ok for kids it definitely is. WildPlay Element Parks - In the trees - Challenge Courses Near Me - Maple Ridge, British Columbia

About two years ago, I came to Golden Ears for a walk with a friend and a much-needed day away from the city. We briefly looked in at Wild Play and I came away with the incorrect impression that it was geared towards kids. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and one of my best friends picked me up for a birthday surprise on a quiet Saturday morning. Being that we both love indoor rock climbing I assumed that we were going to learn how to rock climb outdoors. How wrong I was, but it was certainly an adventure! It took us about 45 minutes to make the trek through to Maple Ridge, short of the hour predicted by the GPS. Our check-in process was quite painless, as was signing the waiver, which requires more than just one's signature and date. We were about half an hour early for our booking, and the booth staff were nice enough to accommodate us to an earlier time slot. Not too long after, our guide met us to get fitted for our gear. The three of us made our way over to the training section, which consists of a few short obstacles to test your ability to follow instructions and go through the long course safely. Our guide explained to us that once we were up in the trees doing the course, she would follow by foot on the ground. We could shout out to her at any stage if we had any difficulty. If they do see you being reckless they will end your experience immediately. What she did not explain was that she would not be following us for the whole thing. That left us a bit unnerved when about 1/3 of the way through she disappeared without warning. I should note that there are other guides throughout the course but you do have to make some noise to get their attention. The 'Monkido Classic' is a self-guided course that consists of a few short zip-lines, rope swings, some tightrope walks and log/plank walks among a few other obstacles. You are harnessed in at all times and go at your own pace, though there are usually groups in front and behind you. As you progress you clip yourself in and out from the myriad safety ropes along the course. At the beginning you are a mere two meters off the ground, but by the time you're finished you'll be fourteen meters high. It usually takes around an hour and a half, which was right on the nose for us. I must admit, I'm not known for my bravery. I've ziplined before, but usually from great heights and with my eyes closed. There were several points over the classic course where I was just not comfortable at all. It wasn't a safety thing - it was a comfort thing. Several times you just have to step off the platform and believe you'll be fine. Other obstacles require you to walk across tiny precarious/wobbly logs or rolls. My friend felt the same way. Strangely I also didn't do well on the ziplines - I rode one backwards and one sideways though that certainly wasn't my intention. I find ziplines with guides who take care of everything for you are that much easier to navigate, though you'll certainly pay for the privilege. I was glad once we had finished, but enjoyed the experience, despite the nerves. We did not seriously consider doing the Extreme course which I understand would only have added $10 to our day. Overall, this was certainly a worthwhile experience. For $35 you really can't go wrong, and it really does make a memorable gift. The people who work at Wild Play seem to really like it, and they pass on their enthusiasm in spades. The course is anything but easy, and you really have to trust yourself and your capabilities. It helps to go with a friend who will egg you on. Wear flexible clothing, bring some water and a snack bar or two and perhaps some spare courage. read more

This climbing course is fun as long as wildplay paces the groups. We have come here 3 times and the first 2 went smoothly but the 3rd time the climbers experienced a bottleneck of 40 minutes. They were just sitting in the ropes waiting for the slow person to get through. The staff did nothing to speed it up. Wildplay had better figure out how to pace and schedule the groups- possibly reserving a certain time of day for faster climbers- otherwise they will lose patrons read more

My family and I came here because we have a tradition at this park. Our appointment started at 1:40pm. We were told (because we have done this course so many times that we were able to pass slower people) we had gotten to the fourth platform before the people in front of us were so slow we sat down because of how long we were waiting. By the time we had gotten to the sixth platform it was 4pm. We were told we were then not allowed to pass because someone was not on the course to help us. So we continued to wait. We started getting dehydrated and saw a few platforms back some water, so one of our family members starting to go back for water, an employee told us if we continued to go backwards on the course we would get kicked off. Another employee told us that it would speed up once we got to the Tarzan obstacle and that the slow family was not doing the extreme course. We had finally gotten off the classic course at 4:45 pm. Then we noticed the slow family starting the extreme course. At this point we were so dehydrated and exhausted we wanted to leave, an employee told us that we had the option to do the "WTF drop" first and by the time our group finished the family would have moved far enough forward that we would not have to wait. Our group finished the drop and guess what? The slow family was on the second platform (that is where the first family member of three was when we started). We asked an employee if we would be able to get the extreme portion refunded, he said yeah just talk to the ladies and they can do that for you. So we started talking to the ladies and they said "we can have someone go up with you and get you in front of the slow family". We told them we have already been here for 4.5 hours, it's late, we want a refund. So the lady then said we don't typically do this but okay. Then after we got the refund receipt she closed the window before we could put it away. Keep in mind, another employee was counting their till, which means the park was closed and yet they were trying to get us to finish behind a family that took 4.5 hours to finish the first course. The lady that was giving our refund also told us "if you come on the weekdays it's not as bad, typically weekends are this busy". I told her, how are we supposed to come on a weekday when we work full time jobs during the week? Plus every time we have previously come to this course it has been on a weekend and typically only took us 45minutes to an hour to finish the classic course. When we looked at the receipt they had only given us half a refund of what the extreme course cost. Extremely disrespectful, we are not coming back to this park. read more

CHILDREN'S SECTION: I took my 7 year old grandson and my 9 year old granddaughter to the children's section and was disappointed with the level of challenge, adventure and risk in the park. The 7 year old somewhat enjoyed it, but the 9 year old was bored. People were wonderful, Covid safety was good, park was clean and tidy. read more

Wild Play is amazing. You are standing in an old camp ground that has been cleaned up to perfection. It is a great feeling walking around here with the towering trees and watching people have so much fun on the stunts. It is safe, they do training before you are unleashed into the trees. Safety is top priority and the staff are great. They are happy too which make the experience there so so much fun. You can even do events there. I go watch my wife play monkey in the trees and groups are having camp fires and packed meals. Such a great hang out. read more

Wildplay monkido is like an obstacle course in the trees. It's definitely exhilarating doing all this climbing and ziplining so high up from the ground. I just wish the staff was more organized. We made a reservation and still ended up having to wait almost 45 minutes from our scheduled check in time to get started. I know other people were experiencing the same issue that day because it was busy but staff should have kept us informed. Other than that, great experience. But would probably recommend going at a non-peak time. read more

Took my grandchildren to the park in Victoria and had a great experience. The people were fabulous with the kids and when my granddaughter had a problem on one of the obstacles they were so kind in helping her along. I highly recommend it - the 12 and 10 year olds will be back. read more

Wild play is a nice place to take the kids on a Saturday afternoon and they can play like jungle Jack and jungle salmon George of the jungle and just have a great time the good ones part of the set up for younger kids part of the set up for bigger kids for the ropes or a pie and the kids can be A little bit more brave and go up on the higher up ropes so it's good place to bring the kids have some fun not too expensive great way to kill a day read more

Great place to have fun in the wilderness. It's like doing an obstacle course in a forest and really tests your balance as well. Safety is definitely a priority here and as long as you pay attention during the safety demonstration and follow their procedures it's quite safe. It can get busy so try booking in advance of possible. Definitely recommend for everyone, even just one time. read more

Too short for the price you pay. When I called WildPlay they said the Classic Obstacle would take 2 - 3 hours. When I got to the Maple Ridge Park the staff said it should take 1 1/2 hours, I said okay heading for a bike ride so want to be sure what time to be back for. My boy and his friend were done in 45 minutes...??? Our time slot was 3:20 we arrived 3:15, they started to get gear on at 3:28...I left and got a call at 4:15 they were done. They said, we weren't going fast...staff should be be able to better jugde time based on number of people. Boys were disappointed...our travel time to park was longer than the actual experience. I did not like it at all. The service and people were good but there were many screaming children and i had heard creaking on the boards i was walking on. Many of the childrens zipline hooks were outdated and looked unsafe to use, i though my daughter was going to fall off the zipline. 1/10 would advise you to not go. read more
