A great rustic stay in the White Mountains. The rooms are cozy and no frills on the second floor, above the tavern and restaurant. Noise isn't a problem as the tavern closes at 9 most nights. The rooms are clean and Jackson is a nice respite from the hustle of North Conway. The deduction of one star is that they still hide behind covid and don't clean the rooms when you stay multiple nights. read more

Made a reservation for 2 for 6pm on a Saturday at the end of school break and were seated promptly and it wasn't too crazy in the dining area, though it definitely started to fill out by 7pm when we were close to leaving. Ordered the peach buffalo chicken tenders, which we've had before and are 10/10 incredible, but there was a mixup and we got peach buffalo wings, which were also great but not quite on the same level. We've been here a few times now and every dish has been great - I got the NY steak for the first time and it was very well cooked. We definitely miss the old cabot cheese mashed potatoes but all forms of potatoes that we've tried that they serve here have been wonderful! Our server was very friendly and attentive - as it started to get busier, we were definitely checked on less, but that's totally understandable. I always highly recommend this place and go in with very high expectations and I had a great experience tonight. Parking is a little bit tight - we parked across the street close to some ambiguous "No Parking" signs, but it's not clear how far they extend, and there's some safety in the large number of cars parked there anyway. read more

Due to COVID causing a mass loss of restaurant employees, the town restaurants shut down two or more days a week. Thankfully, on a Tuesday when everywhere else seemed to be closed, this tavern was open. I made a reservation online and it has you choose a location to reserve ( I chose table in the tavern) but we ended up on bar stools. That's honestly fine. We just wanted food. It was Hoot night and that was enjoyable because so much is closed and it was rainy so it was a really good vibe of locals and visitors. The drinks were good but the bartender did forget us for a while which was odd because we were sitting at the bar... The duck confit was so well seasoned and cooked. The cajun fries were hot and delicious. The food in general was really cooked well which was great. If we're honest, we were expecting mediocre pub food and it really was above and beyond that. A bit pricey plus the barstools were not super fun. The decor is exactly what you should expect for an inn and tavern. Overall a great time. read more

Another great find in the White Mountain Region of NH!!!! We were a bit hesitant to try this place because it offered the cheapest price per meal in the area with free live music!!! Well.. we are very glad we went!!! The Wildcat Inn is at the entrance of Jackson right after you go through the covered bridge... The restaurant offers two choices for seating, the more romantic quiet seating area or by the bar area where the live music is heard!!! We sat by the bar area which was very spacious and offered interesting décor and seating arrangements. On this day, there was an Irish band playing!!! Our waiter promptly acknowledge us with menus and placed water on our table without having to ask! It was a Wednesday evening and on this day, the restaurant has the special of two dinners for $27! A steal!!! We started with a cup of their incredible lobster bisque!!! It was creamy and delightfully seasoned!!! As an entrée, my husband had the Seafood pasta, a garlicky creamy pasta with plenty of shrimp, lobster and scallops, delightful! I had the Haddock Spinach Florentine with wild rice and my new favorite green vegetable, fiddleheads!!!! Never had this before and I absolutely loved it!!! The fish was fresh and cooked just right!! I am truly sorry that our phones were out of battery by the time the food came out and could not post pictures of these delightful dishes!!! PLEASE STARVE BUT DO NOT GO HERE. 7pm: We get to the restaurant on a Saturday (party of 8 = 4 adults + 4 kids) 7:15pm: Ordered food and drinks at 7:15 (Pitcher of water for the table, 3 kids meals, 4 small plates, 1 entree, 2 alcoholic drinks) 7:45pm: Nothing has shown up yet. No water, no drinks, no kids meals. We ask the waitress why we don't even have the water, the drinks, or the bread she would bring for the table yet. She says the kitchen is backed up.... We have a hard time understanding because the water is not cooked in the kitchen and the drinks come from the bar... 7:50pm: Pitcher of water shows up 7:52pm: 1 basket of bread shows up for 8 of us 7:55pm: 1 drink shows up. We ask about the other drink. She says she wrote it down but doesn't remember what it really was and actually came back with the intention of asking us but we distracted her by asking her about why the water was not here yet... 8:00pm: A couple seated on an adjacent table complains about delays and also ketchup on the ceiling above them... 8:05pm: The 3 kids meals show up. We ordered Kraft Mac & Cheese from the kids menu but didn't realize it was made from the box. The kids asked why that took 45 minutes... Server says she doesn't have the beer we ordered, so we give her 2 other options. 8:15pm: 3 small plates and 1 entree shows up 8:25pm: A beer finally shows up an hour and 15 minutes later. We ask for the last small plate that is not here yet. 8:30pm: The last small plate shows up. I ask for the manager to communicate our dissatisfaction with the service. Here is the conversation: ME: We have been here an hour and half and something is yet to be the way it should be. (Explained the timeline above) MANAGER: Many restaurants in the area are understaffed, so are we. ME: Well, you're not understaffed, you're overbooked. You know how much staff you have and so should book tables accordingly. This kind of service is unacceptable. MANAGER: What do you want me to do? ME: Nothing, I just want to let you know so you are aware of what is going on. MANAGER: Okay, thanks. (WALKS AWAY...) Finally, when we ask for the check, the server shows up, smiling and laughing for the first time in 2 hours, saying very casually that she is sorry we had to wait, and that she hopes we have a wonderful weekend. SURPRISE MOMENT: 20% gratuity added to the check and it said nowhere... not on the menu, no signs, nowhere. OH AND BY THE WAY, the 'WHITE' couple that sat near us actually got an apology the first time they complained, then went on to walking away without eating even after ordering their food because it took too long. I'm reviewing the accomodations part. Booked on booking.com I had no idea what to expect. The price was the cheapest I had found in all surrounding towns, cheaper by about $50! I had to snag it up asap which is what I did. The room we got actually is two rooms. A living room with a small couch and tv and the bedroom has the bathroom as well. I feel lucky having an en suite bathroom at an inn. Check in was easy and finding the room was easy. I'd love to come back in the future. read more

Three meek meows for The Cat. Nice little cozy place to hang out. A fireplace and a few comfy spots to sit but mostly beat-on tables and chairs that show the wears of many years of post-skiing rumpus and partying. Nothing fancy here. The menu is actually pretty good in terms of a few gourmet-ish dishes as well as the usual tavern fare of burgers and varied sammies. We were here at about 4 p.m. and had the place to ourselves as dinner starts at 5 p.m.. We went willy-nilly before choosing the BBQ Wings and a couple of brewskis. They were out of the brewski that I requested so I got a "subbie." No biggie (smalls). The wings were ten bucks and tasted OK and were pretty crispy but were a wicked teenie portion. The dood who brought them out provided no plates or napkins. We had to flag him down for plates and nappies. He brought the plates but spaced out on the nappies and so I got them myself. No biggie. We looked over the dinner menu and asked questions to the server and finally decided on our order only to have him realize after a half hour that he gave us the lunch menus. He left and swapped 'em out for the diner menus. No biggie. Moey got the Classic Burger sans the tomater and onion. It was OK and had a branded-logo bun which was somewhat festivus. I got two apps as my main. Duck Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Oyster Mushroom Crostinis. These were actually pretty good and well plated and no complaints except that the scallops were massively undercooked literally rendering them completely raw nearly throughout. No biggie? Luckily, I have an iron stomach so I ate them anyway -as Rick Perry would say, "Why not?" The server was a friendly enough dood but was wicked forgetful and unobservant. The final bill was a couple bucks higher than the one he gave me initially. I didn't bother asking why this was as it was not worth any more confusion. No biggie. The Cat is an OK place but not somewhere I'd recommend other than a place that is average but pricey and has a few decent non-pub foodstuffs. Additionally, it had too many "no biggies" for my taste. I'm surprised this place has so many good reviews. We continue to give it the benefit of the doubt but are often disappointed. They seem to be more interested in turning you away than trying to find a way to keep you there. Food and service is marginal at best. I hope they read this review and make some effort at real customer service. It is a great location, they just need a serious attitude adjustment, or to hire some managers/staff that actually understand the service business. read more

If you like cheesy goodness and a very solid spicy kick then do yourself a favor then stop what you're doing and drive/bike/walk/run/ski/etc. to Wildcat Inn and order their '4 Alarm' grilled cheese. I would have taken a picture but I ate it too quickly. Whoops. This was a great date night spot for my boyfriend and I; we stayed across the street at the Snowflake Inn so this was a perfectly convenient spot. The drink choices were also excellent (we ordered a couple different kinds of whiskey), plus the icing on the fun night cake was the great live music while we imbibed! We won a nights stay here in a local auction and chose a Tuesday night, as they have live entertainment in the tavern. This Inn is a throwback to old New England Inns and was exactly what we were hoping for. When we arrived, about 3pm, there were no people around, but we did find a note to us, telling us where our room was located. They are so laidback there, that the room doors are left open with a set of keys inside the rooms. Unheard of in todays world, and we loved it. Our room had a nice sitting room with it too that just added to the ambience of the room. We went down for dinner at 6pm and chose to eat in the tavern, as the dining room seemed too quiet for us.The tavern on the other hand was almost packed, as the music was starting soon. As the night is known as "HOOT" night, we had no idea what to expect. We are not big eaters, so I got the panko crusted chicken tenders and my wife got a pastrami sandwich. The food was excellent and came within a short time, considering how full it was. After a few hours of listening to the music, we decided to call it a night, but I have to say "HOOT" night was a fun night with many different musicians playing either with a few others backing them or solo. All in all, this place is a gem and we will be back. read more

The Cat! Made that up. Reviewing the Tavern, and the tavern alone. Retired ski lifts-turned-bar chairs, a few local brews on tap and a lively crowd for the weekend apres. Fries are skinny, warm and salty. Beers, about the same. I'm thinking the place rocks a jet set during the much-laureled live music sessions. Sans entertainment, it's a perfectly suitable bar with pub fare to fatten you up, and a full bar to make everyone prettier. Side note: there was a little dude running around telling jokes to various tables, and he really made the experience. Just a 6 year old kid, being hilarious. Jackson is awesome like that. read more

If I could I would give this place ONE star. Horrible service and even worse food. Arrived for dinner around 7:30. Bar was packed and dinning area was empty. We were seated in a small room at a table right next to the only other couple in the restaurant. I used to work as a hostess and I understand seating people in areas that are most convenient for the waiters... but when there are just two couples in a quite restaurant you can at least separate them by a table or two... or you might as well put them at the same table since you can easily hear each others conversations. When I asked to move, the hostess rolled her eyes and told us where ever we want. When we sat down, all we could hear is the waitress complaining, "oh, so they chose that room- now I have to walk back and fourth." "ugh" .. wah wah wah. Before I go on.. let me just remind you there was only one other table occupied at the restaurant... so in total two tables to attend to. It took the waitress 15 minutes by the time she got to us to take our order. Appetizer: Clam Chowder, Wings, Bruschetta. Main Dish: Greek Salad with Chicken and Steak. 10 Minutes pass by and she brings out the soup and she tells us the bread will be coming out shortly (If I am correct...Usually you get the bread right after the waitress takes your order? hmm). Soup was not hot.. just slightly warm. 20 minutes pass and she comes out with the bruschetta and wings.. still NO bread. I look down at the bruschetta and go.. excuse me we ordered the bruschetta this looks like pizza. The waitress replies.."this is our version of bruschetta." Has anyone every heard of baked bruschetts? It was dough with melted cheese and sun-dried tomatoes. Sorry, but I believe that is considered a pizza. We moved on to the wings. They were cold. 15 minutes pass and she finally comes back to give us the bread. White sad bread... the kind of bread you use to make a peanut butter and jelly- the bread you get with an order of eggs and this bread wasn't even toasted! We complained that the wings were cold and she took them back. Surprisingly she returned them to us 5 minutes later. I felt the lettuce on the plate which was warm and immediately called her back. I asked if she had microwaved the wings.. and she said yes. Now I was pissed. We canceled our main dishes (which btw... had JUST been entered in to the computer).. and left. This inn is quaint, but old and stale. The room was nice, but the furnishings were old and the quilt on the bed needed repair. The bathroom was tiny and with the door opening into the bathroom and only as far as the toilet - it was difficult to get in and out. On Saturday night bar patrons were allowed to use a bathroom on the second floor below us and the door stuck - which meant that for almost 3 hours we listened to that door bang bang bang!!! Kind of hard to sleep with all that racket. The guidelines handed to us about the inn - indicated that the office was manned from 8am-9pm, but when we arrived there wasn't anyone in the office, so restaurant staff helped check us in. When we left at 9am there wasn't anyone in the office, so we left our keys in the room and departed. The restaurant was nice - food was good and service was fabulous! Colleen was a pleasure to have as our waitress! Out of 3 nights there we only went to the bar once - service was non-existent - especially when the bar manager's friends showed up. Not impressed as it was very quiet. Inn and restaurant were pricey for what you got. We enjoyed our stay, but will not stay again. read more

The Wildcat always struck me as a split-personality establishment. The front dining room is a little more formal and expensive than you might be looking for after a day on the Jackson cross-country trails, but the bar out back is really laid back, with some interesting musical acts. The Thompson House Eatery, a bit further around the loop, has food that is cheaper and at least as good. I like the whole Jackson loop, including the covered bridge, Nestlenook, THE, the Wentworth Inn, and even the somewhat timeworn Shannon Door Pub. read more

Pretty up much upset. Showed up at the restaurant at 7:15 in the evening. Waitress pretty much forgot about us the whole evening. Had one glass of water and no one offered to refill our glass. When the food was delivered we did not see or hear from the waitress till is was time to pay. Food was equivalent to what I can dig up in my pantry. We left the restaurant at 10pm. Prior to paying for our over priced can of soup the waitress joked about making us wait the evening and thanked us for chatting with the dinner neighbors next to us. We chatted with the guest next to us because it was better than staring at our empty plates for over an hour. They weren't pleased with the wait either. We ordered dessert to go and that took 30 minutes to get. We got a fork and knife to eat with our mousse. This review does not deserve a 1 star as it's to much of a compliment. First of all, the menu needs a complete overhaul. There is "almost" nothing for a vegetarian/vegan to eat. They have a portabella mushroom burger...big whoop? Almost all restaurants are serving some type of creative veggie burger. Portabella mushroom burgers are WAY outdated. If you want a fish sandwich/wrap for lunch you'll have to fork over $18.95 for the lobster roll because that's your only option. Their "speciality" dinner entrees have no veggie options (not even a pasta dish) and the seafood choices are SO boring. I'll never eat here again because there are so many better restaurants in the valley. Several are within a 10 to 15 minute drive of Jackson village. Secondly, I've never experienced the restaurant in the inn, so my experience and opinion on the following matter is limited to the tavern. This tavern has some of the worst bartenders I've ever encountered. Most have zero personality and at least one seems to have a complete lack of knowledge of what's going on (whether it be the events of the evening, the specials, and the no longer happy hour...which brings me to the following) I thought the Cat was considerate of their locals by offering happy hour from 4 to 6. Not having any idea that this was no longer offered (as it had been less than 3 weeks ago) we were shocked at the bill when all of the drinks were double what we expected. That will be my last appearance at the Cat period. There are many more affordable places (again within a short driving distance) to enjoy a beer or spirits. read more

This place was great! Very warm and laid back atmosphere that was perfect after traveling that day. We sat on the Tavern side of the restaurant and there was even some live music which was pretty calm and not too loud. Loved the decor and feel of the place! Great service too! Food came relatively quickly as well! We shared the Three Amigos appetizer which was just plain YUM! We really really enjoyed that! I had the turkey avocado club wrap which was good but my only complaint is the turkey was a little dry. My boyfriend had the Cuban sandwich which was tasty and he really enjoyed it! I booked a room through the Southwest website and cancelled well within the period for a full refund. However, 19 days later, I still had not received even a partial refund from the property. I called on a Sunday and spoke with a woman who was less than informed regarding the business and how it operates. She told me that "no one is at the other property", whatever that means, and followed up with "if you were due a refund for the cancellation, then you would have got a refund." When she finally checked the reservation system, she did confirm that I was, indeed, due a refund, and followed up with "I don't do that." She assured me that she would e-mail "the other property" and tell them to refund my money. Three days later, no refund. I am lodging a complaint directly with my credit card company to get the refund that I am due. This is a ridiculously bad level of customer service that demonstrates a lack of professionalism. I have attempted to call THREE TIMES since speaking with that woman, and I get a busy signal each time, which demonstrates an even lower customer service standard. read more

Was pleasantly surprised by this find. There is a more formal dining area and the tavern area that is much more casual although the menu for both is the same. The food was ten times better than expected for a pub. We ordered the crab, corn and artichoke dip as an appetizer and it was all we could do to not lick the bowl clean. Our children split a pizza that was fantastic, my husband had the meatloaf.... the biggest piece of meatloaf I have ever seen on a plate.... and I had the chicken marsala. Both came with mashed potato and garlic snow peas. Food was amazingly good, service was top notch and the atmosphere was a perfect ending to a busy day. I stayed last week for an event and this place is phenomenal. The staff was kind and fun to chat with. You would expect that but we all know that isn't always the case. I got to speak with the owner who appreciated his staff as well as his guests which is important. My event had a buffet but I really needed a steak so I order the New York Strip which was amazing. The bar atmosphere was great and I kicked back for a bit of March Madness. The accommodations are what you would expect for an older inn and I was not dissapointed to say the least. As someone who lives outside Boston and loves to get away to places like North Conway, I have got to say I would stay at this location again. read more

I have to say, the Inn is very beautiful. Aesthetically, it's fantastic. We had a great room on the third floor. It was clean and very pretty. For this reason, and this reason alone, I give the inn a 3/5. Because it's also pricey - and I don't feel it was a fair price for the experience, at all. But I do think it has a lot to offer, with some fixes. We didn't really have hot water -- the little we had during showers turned off completely, and would suddenly go freezing cold and stay that way for a few minutes (which is a long time to be doused in ice water), then switch to lukewarm, and back to no water at all; occasionally it was very hot for a minute or two. I skipped several showers, because it was just too uncomfortable. When we checked out, we were told one side of the hotel's been having water troubles, but we received no discount for not being able to shower comfortably, nor were we warned that there were water issues when we were booking. The mattress sagged a lot in the middle, and even had a device helping to hold it up in the middle, which didn't do too much. It was not terrible, but not very comfortable. I'm sure all of the rooms are different-- so most probably don't have this problem. We only went to the bar once, because the bartender who served us was not friendly (at all). He wasn't very interested in serving us, and was dismissive and a bit rude. It was confusing, and we just ended up going elsewhere for the rest of our drinks and food. The live music was really nice. Met friends here for apres ski for the first time last night. Server was fast and attentive. Had some local beers on tap. We did appetizers they came out quickly. They were hot and delicious. We ate in the tavern two nights in a row. I just loved the decor and atmosphere. They have a great beer selection with local options, and a decent wine selection. The first night was Hoot Night, which boasted an excellent live band. Nice selection of dinner specials. Came back the next night and caught a live Irish folk ensemble, and dinner for two for 26.95. Service was slightly on the slower side, but it was packed and have us they opportunity to sip or drinks and take in the music and atmosphere. Definitely will come back. read more

We really, really want to love this place. We've had a family home within walking distance for over 12 years and this used to be the go to place for great food, drinks and above all, the atmosphere. This review is not about a single visit, but about multiple attempts by various extended family members to try to enjoy the Wildcat Tavern, usually resulting in walking out the door and heading to the reliable and nearby Shannon Door. I';m giving this 2 stars because the atmosphere is incredible and everything that you'd want in a tavern and a town like Jackson. No complaints with the food, although the kitchen seems to get overwhelmed with just a few tables taken. Drinks and beer selection are fine and varied. The issue? (and this is not just a single incident but a compilation of several attempts over the past few months) The service and communication with patrons is horrendous. Not just a single incident, but time after time. Writing this review was finally prompted by a visit last night in which three of us walked in, took a seat at a four top in front of the the bar and were promptly ignored for 10 minutes. There were two bartenders absorbed in conversation with other patrons seated at the bar and apparently no wait staff on the floor. Are we supposed to order from the bar, does the bartender come out and take orders or is there a waitress? This has been a consistent issue across many visits. I tried to get the bartenders attention by couldn't even make eye contact. We left. Other visits have seen us order from the bartender out of frustration only to have a waitress come by 20 minutes later with an attitude because we didn't order from her. Another time, the owner, with half the tables in the Tavern empty, stood at the door and told us that they were full and we'd have to wait (huh?). Five minutes later he changed his mind and told us that there was a private event and we'd have to wait even longer. We left. Another time, seated at the corner table near the beer taps, we ordered from the waitress. We watched the bartender pour our beers and place them amongst 100 dirty glasses covering that end of the bar for the waitress to pick up where they just sat until, out of frustration, we got up and grabbed them ourselves. After that, we left. This exact same thing at the same table happened a few weeks before with another group of our family, A few weeks ago, my, family members who are permanent residents here in Jackson went on a weeknight. It was half full, so they were told "come on and have a seat, there's plenty of room, but you won't get any food for 45 minutes because the kitchen is backed up" On a weeknight?
